- We show you the easy way to recruit the owlbear cub in Baldur's Gate 3 as a permanent camp follower
Postpone entering the owlbear cave until you have wiped out the goblins in the courtyard of the goblin camp. Then kill the owlbear mother, but spare the cub. Long rest twice in the main act 1 region preferably in the cave, and then the owlbear cub will join you. Feed it and heal it. Then it is your camp mascot.

Thanks for the tips and tricks! I found your video about triggering the Rite of Thorns very helpful. I feel like there is an easier way to recruit the owlbear cub though. Stay with me, it doesn't involve combat.
1. Kill owlbear mum.
2. Go to gobbo camp.
3. Talk to female gobbo holding cub captive.
4. She will tell you they can't play Chicken (owlbear) Chase while Volo is singing. So either get Volo off stage before or after you talk to her.
5. Play and lose a game of Chicken Chase (Sorry about your 30 gold), specifically by letting the cub flee from the Chicken Chase game area. It will then start running around the courtyard.
6. While owlbear cub is running around use Speak With Animals spell or potion to talk to the cub. The dialogue essentially reveals that the cub is too scared to disobey the gobbos.
7. Go back to the female gobbo captor. You can now convince her in dialogue to let you leave with the cub. The cub will then flee and you can do what you will with the gobbo camp.
In Early Access, you didn't have to go through the whole Chicken Chase thing to recruit the owlbear cub, you could just talk to it upon entering the gobbo camp. Now, whether intentionally or not, if you try to talk to the owlbear cub while it's with the captor, dialogue will default to the captor regardless if you've cast/drank speak with animals. Also, if you try to talk to the cub during Chicken Chase, there is no dialogue option to recruit it.
Now that I've typed it all out, it doesn't sound so simple. But it does avoid the possibility of the owlbear cub dying in combat if you mistake the order of operations, because there is no combat. It sounds like you prefer to take on the goblin camp from the courtyard inward tho, so maybe this is easier for that preference. Thanks again for the content!
All that goblin camp stuff is pretty complicated and the owlbear cub may die.
One solution for taking on the goblin camp two words "high ground"
Its not difficult to kill all the Goblins. It is difficult to keep the owlbear alive during that fight. The owlbear cub is on the low ground. If you have the owlbear interaction before wiping out the courtyard the cub will be a captive and hostile in the courtyard.
