Very cool of John to wear a white shirt with the drum transcription on it.
That’s pretty damn funny
No one knows....
BAHAHAHAHAHA
No shit! This run through is insane!
At first I squinted....then I LOL'ed.
This guy has beaten all levels of death metal drumming
You are 100% correct
Yeah and he's like. Is there anything faster than death metal? Because im getting bored playing 330bpm
@@IInvictus 😂!! I’ve seen John live with Origin 6 times and every time he is playing like he is bored with no signs of fatigue or strain during the entire performance. I’ve been playing drums for 28 years and I can tell you first hand that what he plays is freaking difficult. I could never get the heel toe technique down. I use the tip toe swivel foot technique to play fast double bass sections. Heel toe technique is definitely the best technique to take strain off your legs but to master it to the extent that John has is amazing.
Absolutely 🤘
I wish those days back when death metal was fresh and the fastest anyone could go was just a normal grind sequence with flaws in it😌.
Even if you don’t like this style of music, you have to appreciate the dudes undeniable talent. If you dislike the video, you’re just mad and jealous.
💯 % correct my friend.
I disagree about the talent bit. It's not talent at all, it's hard work, dedication and spending every spare waking moment practicing for 25+ years.
Certainly you can come up with such drum parts for the track if left to your own creativity @@papalazzzaru
The most efficient drummer in metal. Not a single wasted movement.
Trey Williams of Dying Fetus is up there with that economy of motion but Mr Longstreet might be king of it.
This series featuring John has done two things: Make me practice more, and buy that Extreme Metal Mega Bell Ride and I love it dearly.
Youre not talking about the prototype in the video right? I want one so bad
I ordered the dark custom set because of this guy. I could not be happier
@@zakhudson nah, they made him those rides in the Custom Dark finish. I've got the regular one available retail
@@EtVilia thats what I figured haha. I was gonna say if they went public Im ordering asap.
it sounds stupid as ever, but Im trying to keep a theme, Only thing besides stands are chrome, everything else I use Is black, the dark classic customs, black evans onyx heads, trick dominators and soon black sticks. Oh and one classic custom 8 inch bell
I thought it was custom!! I bet that bell is soo loud and it makes a certain noise that is ridiculosooo
Apparently the custom version for this video WILL be available for retail soon
I used to bump into Paul from Origin all the time when I lived in San Francisco...his Longstreth stories were hilarious! He mentioned how often John would be staring off into space popping bubblegum during band practice. Haha. He said how John would often be looking like he had other things on his mind while the rest of the band was sweating their asses off 100% focused on playing the songs. Haha. This guy is a legend!
SF?! They live out there?!
@@aplus1080 Paul did. The rest of the guys lived elsewhere
Somehow this story is not surprising 🤣
sounds like he was staring from the abyss
@@aplus1080 he worked at the guitar center for a time. it was awesome to be able to come down to the store and pay respects
To quote another youtube comment: he looks like he's afraid of his own powers
Your comment made my day dude ahahah
On point😨
Exactly well said ...
then he one hand chokes out a cymbal, with brutal precision and stares down the camera. . .I got this
Nah, that's just his look of contemplation after sleeping with everyone's mother in our comments section.
WHY IS HIS FACE IS SO CALM WHEN IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE INTENSE????? Everything is on point, goddamn terrifying
Jeremy Drummer seriously! Talk about “another day in the office” 😂😂. Gives a new meaning to “it’s all in the wrists”
That's the only way you achieve this kind of speed. You tense up you are screwed.
Pretty easy when you are a robot.
Cuase he's so effectively good that he's bored.
When you play like this, you cannot waste a single bit of energy on any other muscle in your body that isn't actively being used for drumming.
John Longstreth is low key one of the greatest drummers of all time.
My friend it’s not low key it’s because of flo from cryptopsy John from origin amongst of the bands and Dennis the menace from macabre that extreme drumming is where it’s at today imo
@@joshferguson9703 Absolute truth king
Low key my ass! He doesn't get his due because people will dismiss it as "just fast." And by people I mean c words.
all the drummers who were better than john are dead
One of the most insane things I've ever seen was him doing double drum duty for Origin and Gorguts, back to back!!
the man's a machine. he probably could have done a third set if he needed to.
Ok, this guy is inhuman. Insane levels of speed played musically. What a combination.
Maybe check Nils Dominator Fjellstrom or Jamie Saint Merat then?
@@KORNBG JSM is one of my favorite
@@jbasti227 Both ive mentioned are absolute monsters.
John Longstreth is definitely my favorite metal drummer but there are other awesome Tech Death drummers that are also pushing the boundaries of brutalness like:
-Anthony Barone of BENEATH THE MASSACRE
-Lord Marco of RINGS OF 🪐
-Spencer Prewitt of ARCHSPIRE

Meinl, I don't know if you actually read these comments but your marketing with John here worked for me. Heard it here, went online and had a full set of of the Darks delivered and absolutely love them.
We absolutely read the comments. Thank you very much for spending your hard earned money on our cymbals. We do not take that for granted at all that you chose us! It seriously means a lot. Enjoy the cymbals and please let us know if you ever have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

@@meinlcymbals Got them 4 days ago. They're absolutely awesome looking. They sound really nice with good volume and clarity. They open up easily as well. I have never bought Meinl cymbals before but I'm glad I went with them.
@@PearlDrummerFTW Thanks again for taking a chance on us Dennis. We appreciate you! Enjoy the cymbals and let us know if you ever have any questions/concerns.
This is the kind of shit I just sit back and every once in awhile through the video I laugh at how absurdly good he is.
one of my favorite drummers and a legitimate living legend
Nice hat brother!
I’ve watched this video at least 20 times in the last few weeks. I can’t stop. Meinl, if you post John, we will watch. Over and over again.
I read a comment the other week on this guy, from someone just like me, and they put it perfectly: Jon's facial expressions look like he's just learned to play drums a couple of hours ago, after having uploaded a whole 25 year's worth of archive of death metal drumming, via the matrix.
This is the man who brought gravity blast beats to the spotlight. This guy is next level and what’s crazy is his technique is so good it’s taking a lot of the strain of playing super fast off him. He looks like a machine with no emotion, just pure calculation on a drum throne.
He is also credited for bringing the heel toe technique into the modern metal scene along with Chris Adler.
The more I watch this and the better I get, this seems less impossible.
Thank you, John, for setting a crazy standard I'm slowly approaching. You're a huge inspiration.
All of the cymbal chokes, god damn.
More like John Legstrength
lol...
😂 dead
His calves are thicker than my thighs.
@@pettson3816 He could fuse tungsten with those calf muscles.
😂😂😂
If you are a Metal drummer and you are someone seeing John Longstreth for the 1st time. His drumming abilities are either going too inspire you or make you hangup the sticks.. I watch in amazement everytime!
Am getting chills watching this.
That's the cv19
Watching John on drums is like watching a chef of sound. He has amazing technique!
0:01 alright I can play that
0:02 Nope
Ahahhahaha so true
i also lauughed hard ^^
funny af. laughed so hard.
🤣
The quickest nope in the history of the universe and beyond.
Came across this John Longstreth series yesterday. Starting my day with it today. Definitely a beast on the kit and also a very genuine, good dude every time I've had the opportunity to speak with him.
Good lord those single strokes! 🏎💨
Heel toe on the feet tho...
@@JesusLordOfLords455 02:07 switches on single foot blasting...
@@nikedgerated yes but guys the reason most of us got into double bass was because it seems inhuman to hammer the floor with your feet like a gorilla beats its chest,..... Just feels lame to me for the drummer to do doubles on each side to conserve energy and rely 100% on his triggers.....basically speaking.... If you had a power cut,...... You cant even jam.
Look at that overhead view around 3:16. Even on his doubles the beaters are coming way off the head. He found a technique that works for him and, when you play music this relentlessly fast for entire sets, conserving energy is important. Virtually every high level/fast metal drummer uses triggers on their kicks to accentuate every note because when you’re playing 16th notes at 270+ bpm, they get really muddy without triggers. And if you think John Longstreth can’t jam with a power outage, then I don’t even know what to say.
Here we go again with trigger hating idiots who don't really know what they're talking about.
1. Not really about conserving stamina. At these tempos, it's more about technique than stamina. No drummer will last by powering.
2. All about getting defined notes heard.
3. With low down chugs, distortions, and vocal gutturals: good luck getting the bass drum(in it's already very low muddy tone) cut through properly without triggers.
4. Yes, there is cheat in using triggers called tapping. But it requires to having the technique down already, which doesn't really make a huge difference.
"Ugh I hate guitarists who use electric guitars and effects. Should play acoustic and bare to show their true skill! Using electric guitars is cheating! Let's see guitarists create that tone in that speed with only acoustics and mics!"
Yeah, that's how stupid it looks like hating on triggers.
I'm a drummer myself and I know damn well what I'm talking about.
John's playing reminds me of Shannon Lucas - flawless technicality and speed with effortless delivery. Wonderful job
My mind was blown when I saw John Longstreth and Francesco Paoli of Fleshgod Apocalypse both at the same concert. Both of them performed flawlessly.
one of my favorite metal drummers out there...great skills and creativity
His foot-technique is crazy....all of his drumming is crazy, a truly great drummer! I take my sticks off for John! :)
This man is unstoppable ! So much technique and discipline and talent to get to this level ! Thanks for showing us how things are done John ! Legend!
Probably one of my favorite drum kit set ups. I love how efficient it is.
beautiful songwriting!!✨
I saw John in Tacoma WA about ten years ish ago. I've never till this day seen any drummer do what he does. I asked him for a drumstick and we talked while he was packing up his gear. Gangster. Nicest guy. Cheers.
Just looked this up on a whim. Haven't played drums is years, but just watching this brought back so much sense memory, the tense calves, tight forearms, the lactic acid build up which sits in your stomach, all the things that made this kind of drumming so awesome and such a vocation.
Jon is hands down one of the best, technique above all, yet even with his perfect technique to minimise effort, it's still such a workout. What a legend.
Stunning. With ease. Utterly beautiful. Drumming and music.
this man deserves more views, he's just unbelievable, i'm speechless each time i look at this
I love the mix on these videos. Wish the album drums sounded like this. John is just killing it on here.
Drum machines wish they were this fast and accurate
Hahahahahah this is the most notes per second I ever heard. Amazing!
Its quite disturbing how relaxed he is playing this. So good and SMOOTH even my air buds kept cutting out..........AMAZING!
John + Meinl series is hands down the best thing ever. My lord.
It’s so fast and ridiculous I couldn’t stop laughing/smiling the whole time. Total beast!
Watched him pull double duty last night with Origin and then Misery Index. He's truly amazing. My 14 year old son left there both inspired to practice more and questioning if he even should continue. John's performance can do that to most drummers, I'm guessing.
Absolutely.
Wow! As I watch more vids, I’m really impressed with his precision and fluidity. Very powerful. Horns up!🤟
I like that this is not edited. You can hear minor flaws, which basically means that all of the insane rest is real as well. Also, those Pearl drums sound great. The cymbals.. meh. Look cooler than they sound. But that's just my humble opinion.
Yup.
Hihats are great still
What minor flaws did you hear ? Just curious at what time in the video??
@@j.d.7208 no wrong things being played but the lack of compression or other EQ gives it a "raw" sounding recording where you can hear some velocity differences in the cymbals and drum hits. And there was a very small amount of double bass slip ups. Could be double triggering or a refire issue, all very very minor things not even worth pointing out
@@Frostcrag64 agreed sir well said
@@j.d.7208 1:38 - the short break maybe sounds untidy?
I realize this is about the cymbals but its impossible not to be hypnotized by the beaters. And I play metal drums, this is amazing.
This has become my daily motivational video.
Met him and he seriously was a nice guy. I couldn't believe how dam fast and loud he was live. Best drummer I've ever seen he was violent. Raw. Deadly. Original.
I’m having trouble comprehending what I just watched. Holy f in. Schnikies. You are a machine! Incredible.
He's out of this world.
If it's actually true that a snare head is only good for 36.000 strokes, John would have had to change the batterhead at least twice in just this playthrough. That gravity blast part towards the end is just ridiculous!
classics custom dark megabell need to happen as part of the line!
He’s a beast. It’s wonderful to see this display of discipline and technique and musicianship.
There’s a beautiful art form involved in remembering these Motifs from song to song. That in of itself is STAGGERINGLY immense.
The composition is absolutely beautiful, too! Just wow. Also want all the cymbals I am eyeing.
Incredible. End to end.
The bass line @ 1:43 is mental.
John’s stick control is out of this world.
John still stays as John, beend decades man 👊👊👊

HOLYSHIT.
John has been playing this style for over 25 years now. He's no spring chicken! I saw him live for the first time in the year 2001. He was killing it back then.... But he's even better now. Top tier drummer that can play almost anything

cool studio... love the out dated analog dimmers.. looks fantastic with the set!.... respect!...
Geez, that's some of the cleanest double stroke I've seen. Big props for not quantizing it.
This guy is sooooo good there's really no word to describe him🙌
Easy: INHUMAN!!!
That all black cymbals are so beauty....
I always feel bad for John as Paul makes him play so fast for such long periods of time. You can see the pain suffering in John's eyes. I just want to hug him and tell him its ok.
I see no suffering, only boredom from wanting to play faster.
Just noticed his right eye brow raise @1:13 like, "Ohh that sounds pretty good. Let me push the bar even more. Watch this everybody!"
AMAZING DRUMMER!!!!! A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH!!!!!
Holy shit!! Can't go much further from here!!
But in all honesty, beyond the playing, the kit also sounds so f'n perfect.
The custom darks are the TRUTH
That brightness is so beautiful
years ago after seeing John I quit drumming, Now after seeing him again I want to quit everything
I love that man. And that drum set was sooo good to see it/hear it.

Breathtaking blasts .
Shit, coming back here after years, this stuff is fucking hypnotic.
After watching this I'm sure John ain't human...just awesome!!!
John you are a beast so fast but flavorful fast your Technique is second-to-none bro
It's great to finally see John back in action again, but come on MEINL, 2020 + insane blastbeats and still no 60fps?
Every time I see a new video in this amazing series of Longstreth's Meinl videos, I wonder before I click "is this the one where he's gonna use that second snare?" Well.... I guess there are more videos on the way then!
Buddies and i went to see origin play at a small 300 person club back in the early 2000s right after the self titled album had come out. i was the only one who knew origin and was telling them all night we need to be on the side of the stage to watch their unreal drummer. 5 seconds into their first song John was melting the kit and everyone was awestruck with :0 face for the next hour watching a demigod break the laws of physics.
Jesus!! He's amazing and those drums sound magnificent!
i have NEVER seen anyones beaters come back that far playing doubles, im in awe
He played more notes in that one song than I've ever played on everything ever in my whole life combined
Ive watched this video 10 times probably, but I cant get over how fucking good he is technique wise.
I always expect it to be amazing and pretty much flawless, but I'm still blown the fuck away every time
