THIS WAS EPIC! We can finally retire that 11 years old SickDrummer drum cam video that we've all been watching on a regular basis. Best song ever, best drummer on the planet. This should be sent to space in a time capsule. Thank you MEINL from making this happened. (Shameless plug: We just release a new album featuring John Longstreth on drums, check it out on my channel!)
No other cymbal company…hell, even drum company or stick company combined come close to the level that Meinl does for metal drummers, especially death metal and all it’s iterations. It’s mind blowing to me honestly. Thank you for the visibility and the insane quality of these videos for metal drummers
Also, the fucking quality of the goddamned cymbals is damn near unbeatable. I prefer the tone of paiste rides, but pretty much everything else meinl is the king. Hell even their rides are fantastic, I just like those big bell paiste rides.
Absolutely amazing!!! ..... And yet, the most nonsensical bullshit I've ever heard. IT'S NOT MUSIC.... it's just 16489000 miles an hour bullshit racket.
I've been waiting 12 years for this video! Lol. Until this moment we have only had live performances with bad to decent quality. This would have blown 19 year old me's mind back when it dropped. This track was the first song i ever heard from Origin/John. Its still just as insane today as it was then. Thanks for this one! Y'all just made my day. Dying Fetus and them have hands down the best live performances I've ever seen for such extreme music. Magical.
John Longstreth the undeniable king of relentless controlled economical hyper drumming! And he's an amazing human being to add to those god-tier drumming skills! 🔥🙌🏼🔥🙌🏼🔥🙌🏼🔥🙌🏼
John’s calmness, superb technique and relatively light touch are reminiscent of avant-garde jazz. Dude’s a Buddy Rich 2.0 with both hands and feet. Wasn’t surprised at all to hear his father was a jazz musician.
I had tickets to see Origin a couple years ago and the show got canceled at start of pandemic lockdowns, and the rescheduled show a couple years later got canceled due to low ticket sales. It's still one of my biggest regrets I haven't had a chance to see John play live yet, but I'm incredibly happy Meinl is able to showcase his amazing skills like this
My old band opened up for Origin years ago, and I remember when talking to John for a bit, and he was telling me about the double stroke bass drum pedal technique that he was learning. To me, he was the first drummer to develop that technique. Thanks from all of us death metal drummers who now use that technique to enhance our playing brother. It's awesome to see you have gotten to be a superior force in this genre. 🤘😌
The first time I ever heard Origin, I was blown away by the intensity coupled with such supersonic speed on the drums. The riffs were great, but that drumming was inhuman. Cheers from Brazil.
HOLY SH1T WHAT THE HELL HAVE I JUST WATCHED I'm speechless, this is the most ridiculous fcking technical and yet musical thing I've heard in my entire life... This dude is an absolute beast, a monster, a drum machine. That's the peak of metal drumming guys, we can't go further anymore with this guy Also his cymbals choice is incredibly creative. Loved how he made those beats with the two rides. Incredible job from Meinl as always, and of course from John, this needs to blow up, everyone needs to watch this
This is not the peak of metal drumming and to say so shows your ignorance. John is a phenomenal musician and one of my favorite drummers but there are numerous other drummers who are also just as good as John who continue to push the boundaries out further and further in technical drumming/music which means the peak has not been hit yet. Just a few names of drummers that are in the upper echelons of extreme metal drumming along with John are: -Anthony Barone -Lord Marco -Dave McGraw -Stocki from Cytotoxin -The Icelandic Drumming Destroyer from Ophidian I -Chase Westmoreland
I was the whole time waiting for a time bubble starting to form around John during this performance!! John's drumming is pushing the boundries of reality!! Sensational!!
Finally, what we've all been waiting for! Simply untouchable, can count on 1 hand the people on the planet that would be able to rock this playthrough, and that's a "maybe". Read somewhere he perfected the double stroke bass roll technique in 6 months, truly otherworldly! Keep killing it John! 💪
After watching this several times, I think it can be safely said that John is the Terry Bozzio of tech death drumming. All those intricate cymbal flourishes and elaborate orchestrations alongside the inhumanly precise blast prowess and the sense of dynamics he works in there as well? I'd say he qualifies!
*Man this is sick. A high quality video of an absolute monster. Meinls roster is insanely good, one day you can see the most tasteful neo-soul pillowy jazzette licks, then the next have your eyes fucked out of your skull by a demon.*
What in the name of all that is holy!? John is inhuman! He’s an absolute technician. Whether you like the style or not, his skill is absolutely undeniable. Always a pleasure to see his work
Sure, great performance, but the fact that he fixes his snare tape at 6:20 without missing a beat in a song with more beats than a lot of careers is what makes this completely insane.
Oh come on! That’s absurd. I was thinking he’s gotta be approaching the threshold of human limitations. But to casually adjust the tape like that? He’s far beyond human
Making it look so flawless everytime. Every! Single! Time! John is in a league all his own for sure. Honed his craft & is still continually growing as a drummer. Fortunate to have met him in this cosmos! 🤘👊🥁🖤🥁🥁
Origin is one of the first true extrem metal I listend to when I was 18, I was blown away by the technicality of the drum, impossible to process, it was (and still is) fascinating.
That’s what kills me. I found them AFTER the newer stuff. I really love the technical chops in this song-but what a groove it carries too. I really thought these guys were newer techdeath taking things more aggressively. I also love that he seems as happy playing as I have been listening. These guys always force a stupid ear to ear grin every time I hear them. Like I’m polymorphed into Beavis until they’re done and can only laugh and yell “yessssss” in some weird raspy voice.
I love how his drum set is a mirrored copy for both hands to play, and he actually utilizes both sides. I been drumming for 24 years now and my left hand is still the weaker side even though I focus on making it just as good as my dominant hand during practice. Been following Origin for years, and John's drumming never gets old.
Dude's stick control is some next level stuff, a true machine just performing his job to perfection, killer. Keep up the great work John! A true inspiration!
This man's a tank, just keeps going. He sometimes plays drums for two different bands on the same tour (Origin and Misery Index as a recent example). Sick video I'll watch it a few times for sure.
Can't add anything that's not already said but this is the GOAT of extreme metal and it's not even close. I literally became the mind blown emoji even though I have seen his videos 1000 times before.
comment will be lost, but sharing anyway. Back in 2013, my 3rd son was born. He wasn't a good sleeper and always wake up around 1h30ish and I had to wake up at 4h30 for work. I used to take him with me in my ''pc'' room in the basement, all cuddled in a soft blanket. Sat in my chair with him in my lap, powered up the computer, load up youtube and listen to Saliga while my legs inadvertently rock to that groove from hell. And that put him to sleep in a second. Fun fact, I wasn't a fan of Origin back then but that's when it all click in!
John has such a unique style of playing. I always knew the dude was crazy good BUT HOLY SHIT this video really demonstrates the difficulty of what he is doing back there.
We all needed this. Ironically I’ve been blasting this album heavy the past 2 weeks and just saw this in my feed today and absolutely had to drop what I was doing and watch. This may be their best song ever I’m not sure but it’s close. BRING BACK FREIGHT TRAIN JAMES!!!
I must admit, this music is not my thing, but John is simply an amazing player. His performances never fail to be completely over the top. Well done John!
I saw them a few years ago in L.A. with Deicide and John was just walking around in the crowd... I thought about going up to him to tell him all the things fanboys always say. But then I was like, huh he probably gets it all the time and is sick of it. But now I'm thinking he's probably not getting enough of it. I understand that there's many "best drummers ever" because they need to fit the style and the band and whatnot, but this here may have been some of the most beastly yet intricate drumming ever witnessed. Saligia has been a long time fave song of mine and I've seen the live drum cams before but this one was superb. Thanks John.
Unbelievably brilliant! Every aspect of his playing is phenomenal. As I working on heel toe atm his mastery of the technique was particularly enjoyable

For us this was some of the most insane and awesome drumming of all time.
For John it was Tuesday.
😅😅😅❤
He really is the M. Bison of drums
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I only wish he could play it a little faster. Then again, I just finished up a pile of metamphetamine.
Don't me absurd. It could have been a Wednesday or Thursday
Fucking amazing John!!!!!
🤘🤘🤘🤘
Okay, your turn!!
I can't like and ruin 69 likes on Samus' comment but 👍
Awesome to see your name in the comments!! This just made my whole week!!!
THIS it what you show drummers who THINK they know drumming...hehehe
I watched this dude play a double headlining set with Gorguts and Origin. Absolutely insane.
Damn. That's just ridiculous to have the endurance for even one set of either of those bands. 😮
Ditto! Saw them in Poughkeepsie and Brooklyn on that run. What a sick lineup, show and Gorguts album. 👊
Same here,Misery index and Origin back to back, this man is insane👌
I slightly remember that tour. I wasn't able to attend but holy shit I would have LOVED to see him in both bands
Purely sick
