I saw this guy play a double-headline set with both Origin and Gorguts. That was like an hour and 45 minutes of playing like this. It was nuts. So good.

Paul from Origin worked at the Guitar Center I used to go to. We had a great conversation about how ridiculously talented John is. Paul said John would literally just zone out during rehearsals, start staring off into the distance while blowing bubble bum and exisiting on autopilot. He said the entire band would be sweating...but John looked like he was reading a book waiting for a bus. Hahaha

I've been in 3 different bands that have opened for Origin as their direct support. I've had a lot of fun and aggressive arguments and discussions with John. He's a great guy. Me and him have had a lot of difference in opinion since 2005.
I've been lucky enough to hangout with him for hours on end, pick his brain, argue, joke, etc. I've watched him from 8ft away with The Red Chord and Origin 5 times, I think? Dude is the real deal!
It was weird to me when he started doing 2 foot blasts and heel-toe. He was NOT a fan of that until around 2007. He toured with Obscura and Hannes turned him on to it. He took it further by hitting up the heel-toe'ers on the "Derek Roddy Forum" (Long defunct forum.... the best EVER! If you're a veteran you know...) then practiced his ass off and then Origin released "Aftermath".

Longstreth is also one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Speaking of cold starts, that's the one thing I have struggled with the most, going from a dead stop to 290 bpm is really really hard but if you watch just before he gets back into it, look at the beaters, where they are and the muscles in his arms. You pre-tense everything and then release but its hard.

Origin guys are really down to earth. Quick story:
I was hanging out with them at their merch table and there was no one around. The singer was chilling there eating a sandwich. All the other tables were crowded and I was like what the hell? You guys are amazing! He replied, it’s all good, people will be here after the set. And wow were they right! It was madness after they played. They’re as tight and incredible live as they are on their records. Fantastic band and really awesome guys. Glad to support them!

It's a shame because outside of that he is one of the most creative drummers and one of the fastest with heel toe so he still stands out above the rest that use it aside from Hellhammer who used heel toe before he did to an extreme degree

This is why I love drumming (am a hobby drummer, I only play for myself and for my enjoyment). You not only create music, but have to actually hit/beat the drums, which is not only physically exhausting (so that you can calm down/get tired enough not to have energy to be angry anymore), but you actually get to HIT stuff without BREAKING it! 10/10 stress control for me, would recommend to anyone. It would be equally interesting with both drummers and guitarist. Aside from it being simply interesting to see what goes on when they perform stuff like this, it could maybe help with research into prevention and management of focal dystonia.

@@AndrewRooneyDrums on the other side of things it's dynamic to. With such a big bell you can hit with the tip of the stick as easy as the side, and not have to be to accurate.
Only obvious negative for me is it's an extra 5lbs in the cymbal bag hehe.

I love the "eq'ed" sound of these cymbals which is why I have nothing but on my current kit. Looking to get 7 more of various sizes and purposes. Everyone that has heard them likes them as well.

Hi! I am new to the channel and I really like your reaction videos. As a lifelong Genesis, and concerning drums Phil Collins fan, I would like to see a reaction to Phil Collins video. There are tons of material, two-drum solos, two drums plus a percussionist, drumming with the barstool, etc. Thank you and keep it up!

I own a set of Classics Custom Dark and I love them, the only downside I see, is that they are a little louder than I would like to, but very good cymbals for the price, very versatile too. I usually play Rock, Rock/Pop, and a couple other things.

Something is criminally missing on this backing track, the vocalist. That's the worst thing about this video because one's of Longstreth's strength is how he writes his drum parts to highlight the vocals. He strategically accents certain words or parts during the song that makes the vocalist pops out in the mix and makes him sound even better. You'll get a totally different experience if you focus on the relation between the vocalists and the drums.

Those rides have a really neat and weird sound at the same time. Sabian does something similar to those Meinl ones, Aquiles Priester uses them. Check him out! I'm sure you already know him, he is Angra's ex-drummer and a beast behind the drum kit.

I would love to see you react to Aoyama Hideki from Babymetal. The man is a beast and makes it look like he's not even trying. A couple of songs to get you started would be "Road of Resistance" and "Rondo of Nightmare" with the Mischief of the Gods intro. Those should get you started but I'm sure there are better songs that really showcase his talent. Being as he is a session musician I'm sure you should be able to find videos of him playing all different styles of music.
