    That's honestly one of the best explanations of most foot techniques I've seen. You're a good teacher and the visuals are right. I'm going to go play around with the swivel now, I can get it with my right but not the left. Cool for blasts so I can't complain.

    I have the outmost respect for you and other “metal-drummers” who use these kind of techniques. But as an old-school “rock/fusion-drummer” I have a very hard time doing faster footwork without more power. I rather struggle with not having the beater hit my foot on the rebound, example: ua-cam.com/users/shortssN2dORgvR9A?si=rcAqj0Q9SKHO3pTd
    Well, that’s my 2 cents ✌🏻😂
    Ps. Great choice of cymbals! 🤩

    • @prototheist
      @prototheist 3 місяці тому +3

      Master the initial exercise of dropping a double. Then master the singles to doubles. Then practice singles -> doubles -> rest (all on grid). Finally add the doubles back like singles 8 bar -> doubles 8 bar -> rest 4 bar -> doubles 8 bar.

    I hate to say it outright because his teaching method/ philosophy is one of the best....I am 65 and like to complain at least once a day and let the world know what irritates me. (Even though no one asks🤣) ......... These great drummers are capable of such speed that I could not obtain if I wanted to...I admire their work ethic to get there. My gripe...the sound/tone of the bass drums in "speed metal" is so unappealing to me. It sometimes feels that some music has turned into an athletic event.... I need tone and resonance. Vibrance with that orchestral auditorium concert hall breath and depth.... different strokes......I just prefer slower with a 26" or 28" felted without head vents.

      Ok boomer

    • @johnpacedrums
      @johnpacedrums 3 місяці тому +6

      Totally understandable, especially because that classic booming kick sound is generally better for most genres(and natural drums just sound better). However, when it comes to "extreme" metal, if you try to play a standard kick drum over a PA at 200bpm+ it just turns into booming thunder that makes every note indistinguishable and drowns out the rest of the mix.
      To cut through the mix at these speeds, you basically have to trigger the kick and give it loads of attack. It's so necessary that it's basically become the signature sound of extreme metal since the 90s. Some bands overdo it and it sounds bad, but when it's done correctly and you hear those machines gun kicks blasting through a club synced up with the guitarists right hand...well it's a very powerful sound and unique experience.
      Don't get old and too stuck in your ways, try going to a live death metal show and see what all these youngsters(more like middle aged these days) kids are on about.

      @HabAnagarek 3 місяці тому +2

      @@acmesalute76well that's a stupid response. Anyway he's right, the goddamn typewriter sound is beyond cliche at this point. It's a drum, an acoustic instrument.

    • @5BILLIONplus
      @5BILLIONplus 3 місяці тому +1

      @@HabAnagarekGood luck differentiating any notes past a certain speed with a traditional bass drum sound. It would sound like a fart. That and playing techniques, such as doubles, or speeds above about 230bpm usually require a trigger to be used in order for the hits to be loud enough to hear.
