Yes, most 20 watt lasers will cut card stock or paper with ease. You do need to get something with air assist and a honeycomb when cutting paper. Without it, there is a risk of fire.

Hello friend; first of all, thanks for the demonstration. I have had my xTOOL D1 Pro for a little over a week; and for getting better acquainted, in the Laser tab I always use "Current Position" so I would like to know if it is possible to use "Homing" in that function or is it only in Absolute Coordinates. And how can I configure Homing on this D1 Pro machine. Thanks
You can use it both ways, I switch based on the burn. Odd shaped objects or 1 time burns, current position works well. For cutting or multiple objects, I use absolute. Homing isn't required if you are running current position.
I have the original d1 and I home it and get same exact accuracy. I slowed my move speed down so it won’t bang or slam into rails. I never manually move it anymore. Have my honeycomb with material set right at 0/0. When I hit fire button, it’s dead on corner of board. I can put a piece of scrap anywhere and machine will go right to it without limit switches
Cool, I have had good luck with mine with those small adjustments as well. I still frame as a precaution. I guess it isn’t just a coincidence. I still like using the return to function for multiple items.
This may have been mentioned or not, but the limit switches are optical, one side is an emitter and other side is receiver, thus the u shape of the sensor. It uses infrared light to hit the sensor, and the little arm on the moving part blocks the beam, and says STOP! Lol, Laser printers have them. Now these CAN get dirty, and will need to be cleaned.
Thank you for this, my d1 pro kept tripping a limit switch after the job was done on the way to home, I'm guessing it's dirty. I'll try when I get home
I've watched this video when it first came out. I believe you said that you had slowed down the homing speed. How did you go about doing that I have looked at ever setting I could find and can not for the life of me get my homing speed slowed down. Dave
Buddy you are just the person I need to talk to! Think way back when you had an xtool D1 10w original :) Did you have accuracy issues when you used you very accurate templates I cant get mine to line up with my jigs after a day of engraving and a shut down. The next day I have to realign everything it maddening PLEASE HELP!!
There is not a place to change the home location that I am aware. (without some reprogramming). Make sure it isn't hitting on the wiring harness. If the wiring is lying behind the gantry, it can pink in the back.
I only use it for udates. I have been using laserbox for tumblers. I make and burn everything in lightburn. I have a video on getting lightburn going that might help.
I got a D1 pro and one thing I can’t find online is when I push home it lines up to the top left but the sensing tab starts in between the limit switches. So if I start a cut and the laser moves left the sensor goes off. Is there a way to adjust the starting home position?
Thank you for all you do to supply us with the information. I have a question if you can give me any light on it I would appreciate it. How much detail do you lose between the 20w and the 10w Xtool? I purchased a 20w pro and I am still waiting on it to ship but I have heard that it is noticeable difference.
They would be a good video. There is alot of talk going around right now on the detail capabilities of the 20w. In the Facebook group there are people asking about whether or not they should cancel their orders and get 10w instead. Thank you for your videos and information. I am learning alot from them so I can be prepared for my laser.
I checked framing speed but I'm not sure how it relates to the home button and subsequent movements as it seems to stay the same speed no matter the framing speed. I did, however, notice that when i manually pushed the gantry toward the far left position there was some resistance - seemed like from the cables on the right side. So i adjusted those a bit and it seems to have fixed the problem. It is getting late and I have to work in the morning so I've already missed my bedtime lol. I'll try it out tomorrow evening a bit. Once I run into an issue I am OCD about getting is resolved. I appreciate the time you took to provide some possible help. I watch your videos often.@@TheClackShack
If you want to stop changing out the leg extenders all of the time check out A Zone Precision and Machine. They make an aluminum extension made on a CNC. I don't have to ever remove the legs from the corners because I can focus from the bed all the way to the top of my R2 rotary with a 30 oz. tumbler in it with all of the leg sections installed. I previously had a 3D printed extension that worked but since I was using it to focus in the same place over and over again at different heights the locking screw on the D1 was eating into the plastic and I had to lift the handle on it 4 or 5 times to get it to lock down each time and it kept getting worse. I did also note that the 3D printed one had some wobble in it after a while that let the head get off center which skewed my cross hairs a bunch from square. I am not affiliated with them in any way, I am just a satisfied customer.
My only concern is that the added weight might cause more stress on the stepper motors at higher speeds. I will come up with an alternative eventually. Thanks though.
