- Rance IV Is Slimy, Yet Satisfying. Back in Alicesoft's Rance III, we saw this crazy, over-the-top eroge start to expand on its story and world. In Rance IV we start to see more of the lore and history of the world. Of course, Rance is still his exciting, struggle-snuggling self. The Rance series is really starting to pick up at this point and we're closing in on the end of the retro timeline. So let's take a deep look with this analysis and review of Rance IV.

Rip monetization lol
right from the start of the video, the jump in graphics and art from Rance 3 is so much higher quality!
I agree. The artists really did a good job here. And I actually think Kichikuou Rance looks even better
Waiting for that 4.1/2 video soon. Those are short games, but make up a nice fun story with my girl Athena 2.0 in the companion role.
Excellent analysis, you really did make justice to it and I love seeing this appreciation for such a underrated gem in the big picture.
Excellent review. I am looking forward to seeing you handle Kichikuou Range. It's a monster of a game.
After hearing this review I hate to break it to you but most of the characters only appear in certain games and even then some hardly get any time. Lucky for you though Athena 2.0 is heavily featured in 4.1&4.2, and 5D. Unluckily for you though later games kinda lowered how often we see Athena, though considering how much you like the characters you will love Quest which basically features all of the cast even if it is a single slice of life scene.
"they need to take their time to flesh out the world"
Kichikuou Rance basically quadruples the lore if not more all in a single game to the point in which the later games just kinda reimagined a lot of the lore established in it.
Oh boy. The Kichikuou video is coming closer. Great video!
Love this review series !
Very great video man
Almost an hour! Nice. When Rance 9 is released, it’s going to answer some of your questions about the toushin and holy magic sect.
Shizuka in particular has a lot of development in store for her in future games.
Loving the Rance reviews, and I realized it’s a good thing that Alicesoft never lets you really rename Rance, because that would be too powerful of a shitposting tool.
Also small note toshin toshi is also a game series.
Tried playing 1 and 3, but I never thought of them as being as interesting as the rance series.
I dunno if this is a significant Inconsistency or not but Rance gets Frostbyne to Add a V area to Athena 2.0, as stated in the video too, but later in the series he says something like not knowing Athena is not considered a real girl.
Both Kanami and Shizuka developments will be fun.
Good to hear. Both of them are really growing on me
Kichikuou runs flawlessly on my box but Rance IV I just could not get working.
I don't think there's gonna be a Rance 04 so this is gonna be the one that got away for me.
How is the work on kichikuou rance going?
I assume it's quite the task.
Can't wait however,
since it's one of my favorite second favorite game in the series and it inspired most of the other games.
I have a couple of videos I want to get out before Kichikuou, though one of them is Evenicle 2, so it's not like I'm ever escaping the Alicesoft insanity.
Also, the Rance 4.1/4.2 video is currently in early access, public on Sunday
@@Adze Very cool, a lot of respect.
Honestly never played evenicle 2 because I didn't think the first was as interesting as the dai series or dohna dohna, however i'm still interested in your video about it non the less. They're great essays to listen to while i'm at work.
Your love for this one makes me look forward for Rance Quest. Sengoku Rance is more of a sequel to Rance III and Kichikuou, whike Rance Quest continues a lot of stuff from IV, VI, and Sengoku, while setting up for IX. IX itself pulls a lot from IV and Quest too.
Kinda a shame IV didn't get a remake because it absolutely sets up a lot of important things.
IMHO Sengoku is a magnum opus of TORI in that it sets everything up so that everyone can build up Rance from there to Rance X - making Rance a balanced person who isn't a total unlikeable piece of shit is hard, but what's harder is making him something you can hand off to another person to develop, something that Sengoku managed to do. Rance can be written by someone besides TORI, he's not a total piece of shit, people still like him, and he's set to be developed in future games.
And yet, Sengoku absolutely cannot do that without the connective tissue that IV built between jerk Rance in I to III and slightly mellower Rance in 5D to Sengoku.
I think that's the real value of IV. III hugely expanded the scope from I and II, but IV lays the foundation for everything that came after, be it Kichikuou or 5D to Sengoku.
channel of the year this and manic the mechanic cuckold simulator are fantastic games and series
btw i would kinda suggest skipping Kichikuou Rance going forward and save it for later. since devs kinda threw everything into a pot and there is a lot of potential spoilers for what comes after. i think it is better played at the end. though maybe just my opinion.
Nah it’s not like things happen the same way so it’s fine to play Kichikuou first.
@@thatoneguyUknow not the same way but general direction and story twists can be similar. up to you though
Nope, I wouldn't do this at all. I regretted playing Kichikuou Rance after I played Rance VI a lot. There is a lot that does recur, but it's never the exact same with many twists happening. You expect thing A will happen but it just completely twists your expectations for thing A by changing it up. Sengoku Rance is by far my favorite game when it came to this because it reuses a lot of content from KR but not in the ways you would expect. The games assume you played Kichikuou Rance before going into the more modern games, not to mention it is one of the best rance games released. You miss a lot of explanation, and hell a character's death isn't really even acknowledged until much later in the series because they assume you have played Kichikuou Rance.
@@Rescuro I'm currently on Rance 03 would you recommend to play 04, 4,1, and 4.2? And the order aswell I'm just to much confused about it
