Being a loner back n the day ... I at least had Metallica in my ear hole to have my own concerts in my head ... that's why I know all songs of these ICONS 🤘🏽
“The base of what Metallica grew into” - that’s exactly what this is. This song in particular is a blueprint for masterpieces like “Master of Puppets”, “Creeping Death” etc.
Lets not forget For Whom the Bell Tolls and Fade to black. I'll put them 2 up against any of them 4...and i would agree with you about the 4 you mentioned. You know who did some of the most metal songs ever? Old classical music composers. Paganini Beethoven Vivaldi and J.S. Bach. Them guys were the first metal heads
@ those are my 5-6 no joke. Especially the orchestra version of for whom the bell tolls. Makes the heavy riff in the beginning 10x better with the strings.
Listen to the Bass solo from this album. Cliff Burton was the bassist on the first 3 albums. He passed away in 1986. He taught the other about music theory and arrangements. He is all you hear in the background is Him. R.I.P. Cliff Burton. Forever missed.
First song I learned on guitar. I spent all night practicing to learn it by the next day, minus the lead. Borrowed my girlfriend's acoustic guitar for the night to get it down. My friend who showed me the riffs, didn't believe I hadn't play guitar before. I took piano lessons for three months ten years prior, but that was it. I learned Seek and Destroy, and Motorbreath right after, which I used tabs for. Then I decided to learn some Megadeth, and was quickly put in my place thinking it would be as easy. Metallica's first four albums are PERFECT.
Groundbreaking for it's time, had this first album and played it for tons of friends and made so many tapes back when tape-trading was a thing, a by-gone era, sadly, now we got spotify playlists w/commercials, alas.
I’m a 54 year old woman. This is my absolute FAVOURITE Metallica song! It’s my ringtone! If you get a chance to see them live, PLEASE DO IT. I’ve seen them 4 times, and they always rock HARD! Enjoy! 🤘🏻🇨🇦🤘🏻 Oh yeah, please don’t pause during ANY guitar solos …Thanks 🤘🏻
@ …agreed, 4 Horsemen just happens to be my personal favourite. I used to play drums in the 90’s and we used to play For Whom The Bell Tolls…So fun! 🤘🏻
@@fabulousnobody3557 For Whom The Bell Tolls is the first song my cover band put together back in '85. I played guitar and you're right, so fun! Was my favorite song to play from our set.
Four Horsemen is the clear standout from KEA for me too. It’s the song that was the blueprint for what came next, and the soloing and main riff are off their nut.
You hit it on the nose: Metallica is all raw energy here but you can hear the foundations of what they'd become. I'd encourage you to listen to Whiplash from this album and Orion (an instrumental from Master of Puppets) as well. And yes, Metallica are masters of musical transition
Oh my just found your channel . Very cool breakdown . Remember this when it dropped . I was 13 . Music needed this at the time to shake the cobwebs . We defo need another musical revolution 💚💙
You two always manage to look at the music from a different perspective than I'd considered. Your enthusiasm is incredible. Very satisfying to jam with you guys.
I'm so excited you tube put you on my home page ❤ I adore seeing people who understand the musicianship behind the writing, there is a documentary called Cliff 'em All, produced in honor of bassist Cliff Burton who was killed in a tour bus accident when I was 16, a year after I discovered this album 😢 there's some great history in that little movie ❤
Around 92 I was 7 years old. My uncle would go to his university classes leaving me enough time to sneak into his room and mess around with his stuff till I stumbled upon a cassette tape with a pen writing that reads as follow : Kill’em all ! Imagine the impressions and reaction of a 7 years old kid listening for the first time to Pulling teeth, Phantom lord, The Four Horsemen ! Those were fun and special days indeed. Thanks for the upload. Cheers from Morocco PS: you are right about the galloping thing, it's a technique that relies on palm muting the strings, using high gain and riffing in a consistent and tight way.
A very UNDERRATED Metallica song is on the LOAD ALBUM, called BLEEDING ME, yall should check it out, also "UNTIL IT SLEEPS" is the big hit off that album
Got to watch Cliff perform the Anesthesia bass solo from the Metro 1983 show. If youre going to observe any form of that song, it may as well be this specific one. It'll be sure to melt your face!
These dudes have been conveyed to metalheads. I still listen to my fair share of rap, but they're right about most rap being about how much money they have. Been blasting Metallica since I was 6 yrs old. The early to mid 90s were a great time to be a kid falling in love with rock and metal.
It amazes me how many people don't pick up on the double bass drum recreating the sound of horses running in this song. The 2nd best song metallica ever made.
This is my favorite Tallica' song. Love how many rhythm/tempo changes there are in this one. Also, 2 badass solos 🤙 Keep it up, you've got a lot of great music ahead of you
Great reaction! Loving the Metallica vids! Fun fact...The original version of this song was called “mechanix” This the same song they just changed the lyrics after Dave left the band.
i think the word you were looking for was Refined. it is courser, more thrash.. They were basically kids at this time, So James's vocals have changed with age and use / technique. You guys just said it! It was different to me, and I grew up with all music, but mostly hard Rock/Heavy Metal. I'm a drummer and first heard that 3 note triple played with double bass, with that driving groove!!
Some amazing hidden gems Dragon Attack - Queen Stargazer - Rainbow The Sails of Charon - Scorpions Great videos I’ve been watching a bunch of them and can’t get enough guys thank you
They were a true thrash band at this point and about as heavy as any band of that era. They softened a bit as the years went by, but this is the shit we loved them for. In my opinion it’s their best album.
One of my favorite tune. I always try to learn the guitar but couldn’t do it but my 19 year old daughter ❤ has the ear for it she can jam to this I’m happy
Lol. Dave Mustaine admitted to ripping of Sweet Home Alabama when he wrote the slow part near the middle. I can't unhear it ever since I found out. Also, you mention classically trained. The bass player Cliff Burton was classically trained and the band credits him with tightening their sound.

That "switch up" in the songs when they change the whole beat or tempo or key is what's called "progressive" in rock music, as opposed to the typical "verse, chorus, verse" structure in pop music. You probably noticed already that Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin did that first. If y'all like progressive rock or metal, you can also check out Rush (song is Tom Sawyer or Spirit of Radio" or Pink Floyd. Those are classic progressive rock. In Metal you might like Opeth or Gojira or Mastodon. Good work fellas!

I agree
Metallica wanted to name this album "Metal Up Your A**" Record labels wouldn't let them. Their answer was "Kill 'em All" as in the recording execs.
Cliff said "Fuck 'em, kill 'em all!" and the name just fit, brilliant!
They originally wanted to have a picture of a hand holding a dagger coming out of a toilet on the cover, but that got shot down also.
@@briantieken6718 yup, which is good, that would have been dumb, cover pic is so perfect
@@m.ericwatson968 The cover is vague but it still beats some first-covers. A toilet would have landed 'Tallica on Worst 50 lists.
Cliff was the one that said it.
James Hetfield was 19 when they recorded this, you are right, young and hungry
Dudes. Pantera walk and domination live. Get your minds melted.
Lol
I'd come home from high school in the 80's and blast this in my bedroom, headbanging and playing air guitar 🎸

You’ve got a great Metallica guide deciding which songs to do in what order. You’ve already hit the 4 best imo (ride, master, one, horsemen)
Biased but One and Disposable Heroes top my list.

This album kicks your ass coming in, and going out. Definitely worth doing a full album reaction.
Yeeesssss 🔥🤘🏽🔥
Yes, kill em all is very rare and unpolished Metallica were all in their teens when this album came out so it was a lot of nervous energy.
"Garage Days Re-Revisited" Has this same kind of chunky, unfiltered, underprocessed vibe as well...
