This case was a HUGE reason why I’ve explained to my kids that they can come to me about absolutely anything and I’ll never get mad and I will *always* love them. No matter what. As far as grooming goes, this is a huge tactic used to isolate their victims.
I do constant check ins with my kids. I ask about visits, friends, outings, etc. and who they’re with. If it makes them feel weird or icky, listen to that feeling and to do what they can to get out of that situation & call me.
My teens have been very honest with me, I’ve held true to my words, and we have a very, VERY good relationship. They’ve called me quite a bit to get out of sticky situations.
No, I am not “besties” with my kids, but I also never want something unfortunate like this. Having an open relationship eventually fosters a friendship later in life, but letting them know you’re there for them NOW encourages an open conversation to have with your kids.

I’m a police dispatcher of 25 yrs, have police officers in every generation of my family as well as military all the way back 7 generations. I was not only “friends” with my local police, but worked directly with them, worked on raising funds for them, and much more. But when my son was friends with another teen boy that the police “wanted to bring the hammer down on” . They proceeded to USE ME AND My TRUST in them to ARREST MY SON ON TRUMPED UP CHARGES TO GET HIM TO GIVE UP INFO ON HIS FRIEND …. BOY oh boy did I LEARN my lesson….NEVER EVER EVER TALK TO ANY PD WITHOUT A LAWYER…FOR ANY REASON…PERIOD. I left my profession shortly after and will NEVER look at the police the same again.

You're exactly right! I learned the hard way, too. My daughter was sentenced to 8 years in prison for using drugs. She was never a dealer, a thief, or violent. I will never talk to police again. They manipulate and they lie. They can be very violent. I have instructed my other children and grandchildren to never talk to the police. I taught them their rights. I used to "back the blue" 100%. Now I know better.

And why did the the police want "to bring the hammer down on” your son's friend? You seem to forget that police does not deal with angels. Most of the time they deal with dangerous, cunning blokes, who commit, or have committed crimes (some of them horrible), and will do everything in their power to deceive everyone and escape the consequences of their deeds. The police cannot talk to them with a Bible in their hands.
And despite your apparent distrust of the police - based on a singular and personal incident - I am very sure that, if you arrive home today, and see that your house was broken into, and your wife is missing, you call 911.
I think that looking at the police with suspicion is a distorted view of reality. I don't know where you live, but just imagine what would be if the police force, the whole of it, went holiday for one whole month. No police at all, nothing, no sign of their presence in the streets. Cam you imagine would it would be?

I’m sorry but that medical examiner should be fired. She ruled it a homicide when there was no scientific evidence of it. Like how do you retract saying bones were burned? She says “based on autopsy results alone I cannot determine if it was a live birth” - she literally had one job, and that’s all she could speak into. How they took her word beyond the evidence is mindblowing.

I remember how the mother went on and on about what people were going to think and say, and neither parent seemed to show, nor did they say, anything truly consoling to this obviously emotionally stunted girl. I got the clear impression that they’d always demanded perfection from her and that’s why she didn’t feel she could turn to them for help. That would also explain the eating disorder. The parents’ demeanor is very different in this show than it was then.

They probably decided it was best for her not to get interviewed because she has had a lot of time to reflect on what happened and can come to a conclusion herself now.
The parents had unrealistic expectations and made her feel worthless since a young age. She could have developed an eating disorder because she felt like she was never enough. And the only thing she could control and could get praise for, was for being skinny and losing weight. Her mom definitely was an enabler, pusher and probably the cause of that.

No matter how bad or scary it may be. I even gave them scenarios and examples so I know they get it.

That is so very important, to let children know they are safe and can tell their parent/parents things. Just as it’s also very important to guide the child and introduce them to things at their level. Many parents do not like it, but talking about biology and sex is part of parenting in order to prevent these things. Imagine her being so terrified of what her parents would say, that she found keeping the pregnancy a secret, and sneeking out in the night to bury the baby in the backyard, to be a better option than to tell her parents what had happened. I do react though to the doctor not informing her children considering this happened when she was a minor, and she needed proper check-ups and a birthing plan etc. a teen asking the doctor to not say anything and they did nothing after that, is a violation.

But Planned Parenthood doesn't want you to know about them, they want you to go to their center and just get your pregnancy "taken care of". As a teenager, you just don't know what to do. I watched this hours ago and can’t stop thinking the same thing so I came back to the comments. Did the mom think she just ate too much pizza? And her mom saying she was happy her daughter was healthy now is a pathetic excuse for turning a blind eye. Did the parents think her eating disorder was magically cured? No they didn’t. People know that doesn’t happen “overnight”. Those parents aren’t that stupid. I feel evil narcissism from all of them. I love, love, love my kids and will always support them, but I’ll also tell them when they’re wrong. I don’t recall in this story her parents ever telling her she was wrong. Feels like a red flag to me. The judge was right; many different decisions could have changed this outcome. I hope she never has the opportunity to be a mom.

As an EMT I made a call to a house with a 15 year old that had given birth in her closet and her Mother and father didn’t have a clue. She didn’t show at anytime. The Mom took her daughter to the doctor for severe cramping and the doctor said had delivered a baby. They went home, she found the baby there in the closet and it was still alive. A little girl. Her Mother asked us to hide the baby so the neighbors wouldn’t see. We told her they wouldn’t see her and on to the hospital we went. When the father got to the hospital, he went crazy and tore the waiting room up. The father was banned from the hospital, the baby was adopted and life went on. I wasn’t sure who I felt sorrier for. But it wasn’t for the baby, she went to a great home, a loving home with one baby in the family already and her new Mom was sobbing in the hospital, but not sad tears, tears of joy.

Just listen to random talk on the street, in movies, tv shows and most likely in your own family. Maybe even yourself. People just talking about getting pulled over for speeding or some other reckless and illegal driving: the first thing the driver says is that they have no idea why they are pulled over. Next is the first thing they are trying to think of is how to lie about it and trying to get out of it. If the general public is that obviously always thinking up how to lie to try and get out of a ticket, don't you think when someone is trying to cover up something much worse, don't you think they would have spent weeks , months and even years honing their lies and story to give to the police when they finally catch up to them?

What I never understand about these kinds of Internet comments is that surely you know how heavily edited these shows are? Have you ever been interviewed or TV? They ask you the same question worded slightly differently multiple times. They likely asked her, “and how has all of this impacted YOU personally?” “How are you dealing with this?” “How has this changed your life?” “For you, as a mom, this must not be what you expected in life for when your children would have children, right?” And so on. You really can’t honestly tell how bizarre someone’s statements like this are without watching unedited interview footage to see the context for the responses shown. For anyone who doesn’t understand what I’m saying, think carefully before going on reality television or doing any interviews because you are going to be blindsided by how clips can be arranged to give a context that didn’t exist in real life. That’s not always some big tragedy or even intended to be deceitful but it does mean that interviews like this are not “evidence.”

In my country we have at least one incubator at every hospital in a small room without CCTV and people who might've been to scared to go to the hospital to give birth, can put the baby in the incubator anonymously so that it can be put up for adoption. This is an 18 yr old, not a 12 or 13 yr old. She hid a pregnancy deliberately while in high school. She delivered the baby in secret and then buried the baby in the yard. She was not mentally slow. She concealed her condition. How can someone pity her? She made poor choices for herself and her baby girl. She should be held responsible for not properly ensuring her daughter's life.

She's 18. She's an adult. Stop treating her like a child. Is it because she has an appearance of an "all american girl"? That attitude towards girls doesnt do any good for them. She did a terrible thing and justice needs to happen.

People don't seem to be focusing on the issue that brought Brooke to court in the 1 ST PLACE. Yes eating disorders are tragic, But the case is about her child being buried in the backyard and what happened to lead up to this choice SHE made. If she thought the baby was dead, YOU CALL 911! NOT, bury the child in your backyard. Her eating disorder has nothing to do with it. At all...

This case hit close to home for me. Remembering how my son's girlfriend had given birth to a still born in the bathroom before leaving for school. Only then did her parents and I knew that this young girl was even pregnant ... because she always wore baggy clothes. My son was not even aware & it was devastating for him to learn that she couldn't even tell him. Yet... her parents blamed everything on my son ... and although both of them were teenagers, my son never understood why & never received closer, since he was denied to attend his son's funeral.
I think teen moms that go through something like this ... are dealing with emotional fear of how the parents would react. At a time like that ... there should be a place where the teen mom can go to get an advocate & go through some therapy (family counseling) to help her approach the parents with the news of her pregnancy. I think this is why my son's girlfriend didn't tell him, out of fear my son would talk to her parents & I, regarding how to handle their future.

I'm an attorney. People, please use us. Unless you are an uninvolved witness to something, it is not weird or wrong to contact an attorney before dealing with police about anything. Even if we aren't present, at least talk to us before you speak to law enforcement. They are trying to solve cases and, at best, on the side of perceived victims.
Lawyering aside, just as a human being, this situation makes me anxious. I cannot believe American women AND men do not understand that pregnancy is a deeply personal thing that you do not want the government scrutinizing to this degree.
Abortion is a medical procedure that doctors do with health and ethics as a fundamental part of the process...especially, and more judiciously, any time after the first trimester.
Even if there are women that get abortions in situations that you and I deem to be immoral, we must have faith that God will judge and punish us for what we do in this life. Not everything can be effectively adjudicated by society.
When people cite religious convictions regarding this issue, they
    A. Are clearly not aware of all the scripture in the bible that could be relevant to this issue.
    B. Violating the first amendment by expecting our government to enforce laws that establish a religion.
    C. Showing that they truly do not believe in God and His perfect judgment on Judgment Day.
Vengeance is Mine saith the Lord. Trust in Him in circumstances where man and society falls short because it violates a duty of privacy we have to each other.
