The first half of the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
Nice shop... I'm starting from scratch. I inherited a small farm in Louisiana, 3.5 acres, there are 2 outbuildings and one is going to be my shop. It's about 50'X50' with a dirt floor and a missing window. I've spent the last 4 years cleaning out overgrowth and making gardens. Now it's time to put the shop together. I have an old plainer and a hammer and table saw. I've never done any woodworking but now it's time. I watch your video's for tips and I like the way your setup and will try to do something like that. God Bless!!!
Let's see the power arrangement, it was a big part of what I had to do first when I moved to acreage with a shop. Congratulations!! It is such a difference having a dedicated shop space.
Thanks Cam, good to get a glimpse of "what" you're working with, in addition to "how" you do it. CONGRATULATIONS, on your new home! Looking forward to seeing how your new shop is designed and built. Thanks Cam!
@@BlacktailStudio In my country, when you say a person's name wrong, they say "You're going to give me an Easter lamb!" (It's a saying) ... 😂😂🤗🤗 Of course I'm kidding. I have to give you props for being so upfront with the sponsors. It’s so refreshing to have someone be honest instead of shoving a product down my throat. Last week you had told me Goby Walnut is a good site to order wood from online, but unfortunately they won’t ship to CA. You have a second recommendation? Lol
Cam congratulations to you and your wife! An overview of the blank canvas you will be starting with would be nice! That way it will be easier for everyone to follow along as you lay it out. Take care & good luck with the move!
Cam, thank you for this video. I usually don't pay too much attention to the tools people use. I am more interested in what you are making. However, I had no idea that there were floor locks in existence. They will be perfect for my rolling assembly table and maybe even for my table saw. Also, thanks for the shop tour. I like a working shop. Some of these guys on UA-cam have show shops, you have a working shop. Congratulations on the new house and new shop.
I can happily recommend the Festool "Kapex" mitre saw. I have used mine constantly for about 12 years now and I wouldn't swap it out for any other saw available today. Awesome gear. Also, really liked this shop tour video so thanks for putting it up as it has opened my mind up to different ways to set up my own shop.
HI cam I am super happy for u. we need more space. I just now going in to my sons gym and having it as a small workshop. he's moved out so cool for me. mine is just hobby but u doing for a living. I also watch rob conman and his is a ex bowling ally. how cool. he also does it for a living. keep up the work. ur a cool guy to watch.
My 2 cents on the new shop: While it's empty, get all the utilities (re)done how you want for the long term: - electrical, plenty of outlets on multiple circuits, including 220 (possible new subpanel) - overhead lighting in the right places; older you get more you need - plumbing if needed - HVAC - dust collection & air cleaner - compressed air I think the investment in these things will pay off. Hard to go back later after the shop is full & redo. Oh and don't forget tunes & TV. I really enjoy your videos and would love to someday attempt anything close to what you already do. Can't wait to see next phase.
Hey Cam, I have the Bosch glide saw...the dust collection does stink but it is a really easy fix. I got a 8x8 piece of rubber from the plumbing department and duplicated the mounting holes for the little hose shroud, but basically trippled the length of it. Works great now.
Really enjoyed the video and all of your content. I live in the area (Vancouver, WA) and have lived in Portland previously. I think it's cool to learn - even remotely - from someone I consider local. Congrats to you and your Wife on the new place. Look forward to seeing the new shop and how it all gets set up. I'm new to woodworking and am setting up my 2 car garage for my own shop having moved into my first home this past April. I learn a lot from how you work and what you do.
Excited about the new shop build! We just bought a new house too with a 1750 sf barn. Moving my wood shop over next week and starting from scratch. Excited about the cool things you're going to do, and hopefully being able to use some of them myself. Thanks!

Congratulations! We are moving as well to some land, 2.88 acres. I will be doing a shop set up too! It’s exciting, and stressful! A lot of packing is coming!!
Congratulations on the new house/shop. My wife and I just moved into our new build house, however it is on a small lot with HOA rules so I currently work out of our two car garage so the vehicles have to be out in the elements, which my wife doesn’t like. I’m trying to convince her that we need to buy a couple acres and build another new house...and a detached garage/shed for my shop. Until then, I’m preparing to build a small shop in the back yard, but it cannot be a permanent fixture. Trying to decide how big I can make it and still have a decent back yard. Looking forward to seeing your new digs.
Would love to see the land and new stand alone garage/shop! Congrats on the new journey and I am sure it will just motivate you even more for your wood working business and channel!!!!
Cam, congratulations on the new house/shop. Better wood storage and a fridge with a crushed ice machine. Definite needed addition. Maybe a chance to cast off the tools you don't like or need. I did a post on your facebook page about identifying a wood used on a kitchen table. Definitely not pine but can't figure out what it is. Congrats once again and look forward to seeing the new studio.
Cam, congratulations on moving to a new home and a New Shop. This is a happy Thursday. Thanks for your current shop review but am interested in your new shop layout. Many magazines describe shop layout but with your table builds, it would be nice to see how you organize it. I would like to see the difference in the Festool Rotex and the Festool orbital sanders. Congratulations! You deserve a nice shop for all the beautiful work you turn out. Someday I will have a shop... still holding my breath in my one car garage....
Congrats on the new place, Cam! Excited for you! Thanks for the honest opinions about the tools and stuff in your current shop that you like and don’t like.
Will definitely be hard lining my air compressor to my new to me garage shop, so tired of tripping over airlines, coiling uncoiling, also taking the dust collection overhead from along the floor/wall corner. Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations and all the very best!!! I'm not in to wood work but love all your videos, it's simple and time flies just like that while watching your videos. I guess I watched almost all the videos of your including your first one ;)
Congrats on the new shop. Can’t wait to see what you end up building. My wife and I are looking for the same thing as far as a house. Living right next to downtown Tacoma on the hill by the Tacoma dome, I have no room after building my kiln let alone moving around slabs and slabbing logs next to the road. Let a see an empty shop tour and a look at the yard. The photo looks incredible
Congratulations on your new shop. I know you're going to set up the way you want it right from the start, so what you want to show, it will be all new to us LOL good luck and congratulations once again.🇨🇦

Just really looking forward to watching how you go about the new studio set-up. Going to be interesting to see what you can do with the space and what new projects it's going to enable
New shop. I am about to go through the same type of thing and planning out a new shop in a 600 sq ft garage, you made me feel better about having a mess like that and feeling that I am not alone, so I thank you for that. Trying to be more organized when I start building out my new one. :)
I think you could use the jigg more when drilling in the work bench? Drill the first row, use the al to locate the second row, then go back and do the same for the third. Now you can use the 2 holes on the top and the bottom, this way you eliminate the risk of measuring wrong between the rowes.
Most interested in the new shop layout, I am always interested in seeing new ideas, currently I am using a double care garage. Congrats on the new house and shop (jealous) Don't worry too much about only having one set of drills and impact drivers, me too, I think the guys that have more are compensating for something
Hi Cam, congrats on the new house, looking forward to seeing your new set up. Once you're all sorted there, what about some comparison videos on how you've improved things from what you didn't like about your old set up. Just to help those of us who are working their way to a "studio' of our own and tips you have learned along the way. Good on you mate, appreciate the vids.
I would love to see your planed setup vs what you end up and for what reason you changed you mind. You have a stunning setup there and I love the real feel of the shop. I had a spot like that corner and when I got all my dad's stuff it went even more pair shaped so the honest shop tour was a fresh addition to what we see allot of the times. Thanks for being honest about it. (Now we know the super epoxy table guy is also human 😉 ). Congratulations on the new house and enjoy setting up the new space better. I always find when we move that we have way more stuff then we realize because we compact our storage as time goes by and then when you unpack it its a crazy lot of stuff. Good luck with the move.
Thanks for the shop tour - Festool is too expensive for me being in Tasmania, Australia. My shop is much smaller - but good to see what works for you and what doesn't, even with storage as well. Thanks again.
Nice! For the new shop, will you template out the workshop first? Run some masking tape outlines of all the pieces onto the floor! Or if you have enough cardboard, cut out the rough area of each major component, so that you can lay everything lay everything out, and move things around without breaking your back.
I want to see all the flip-flop friendly accommodations you provide in the new shop. I tend to work in flip flops as well, so this will be of particular interest to me! :D Congrats on the new shop, new house and all the rest. Enjoy the madness!

My 2 cents on the new shop:
While it's empty, get all the utilities (re)done how you want for the long term:
- electrical, plenty of outlets on multiple circuits, including 220 (possible new subpanel)
- overhead lighting in the right places; older you get more you need
- plumbing if needed
- HVAC
- dust collection & air cleaner
- compressed air
I think the investment in these things will pay off. Hard to go back later after the shop is full & redo.

Thanks Anton! It’s a process!
Cam, congrats on the house and the new dream shop!! 👍 can’t wait to see the videos my friend.
Thanks Trent!
Congrats and stay safe out there! Them fires are insane on the west coast!
It’s getting sporty!
Thanks for the shop tour - Festool is too expensive for me being in Tasmania, Australia. My shop is much smaller - but good to see what works for you and what doesn't, even with storage as well. Thanks again.
Thanks!!
Nice! For the new shop, will you template out the workshop first?
Run some masking tape outlines of all the pieces onto the floor!
Or if you have enough cardboard, cut out the rough area of each major component, so that you can lay everything lay everything out, and move things around without breaking your back.
I like the cardboard idea. Tape isn’t three dimensional enough
Congrats on the new house and new shop! Look forward to seeing your shop being set up!
Thanks Greg!
