Exactly 70% of my audience is outside North America! So I’m very aware. I’m working on those details now, but yes. I want to find a way to include everyone, worldwide. At the very minimum I’d be happy to give my video consultation to anyone across the world instead of the physical prize. Which I’m sure would be disappointing to some, but it’s something!

I don't do woodworking and never had an interest in it. I don't even know why your videos were suggested to me by UA-cam. But, I am so glad I watched the first one. I am totally hooked and learn so much from watching. Whether I will be able to use that knowledge for woodworking, may never happen. Don't let the negative Nancy's bother you! People are so brave over the internet and say things they'd never say in person. As a woodworker that really prefers to use wood sourced from blow downs and diseased trees, I've used it a lot. It has a beautiful grain structure, and definitely doesn't get the love it deserves. Friendly challenge - I'd love to see you make more of your own bases for your tables. I think we have all seen your process on producing a top, however I've barely seen any videos where you make a complex base involving joinery. I think this could be a great opportunity to produce new content. I do understand how straightforward it is to just attach a metal base, and it also looks great, but some of the finer points & skills of woodworking come out when making the base for a table.

In Russia we call elm "Karagach" and it's the most popular wood specie in slab table industry. We have also two other names for elm: "Vyaz", "Elm". More interesting part is that lots of people heard about "karagach" slabs and "vyaz" wood but they don't know that it's the same wood specie.

I'm one of the women that still have my 12 year old side, the playful, adventurous, curious, tool-loving, creative, see-gold-in-what-other-see-as-trash side, and I just turned 59 a few days ago, and as every year my wish no 1 is:
Please don't let me wake up one day and see that side gone!! And I get a need for cleaning my windows every week (instead of 1-2 times a year), and instead of having a great time with a golden sword-fight (2 useless sticks from the forest for most dull adults) with my neighbor's 8 year old son, with all the sounds like from an old Chinese Karate movie or build very long high-speed track for small cars from old water pipes, etc.

The name "Elm" should perk the ears of anyone who feels it's worth asking about the type of wood it is. Dutch Elm Disease wiped out most ancient American Elm trees. Just like ancient American Chestnut trees: you're just not going to find natural old-growth trees with this size of wood slab in the future.

I have watched a lot of your videos but just learned something new. I have had issues literally overnight with wood warping as I work on it from one day to the next. I never thought about covering it with plastic. Thanks for that.

Giveaway: A chopping board, with bookmarked pieces, but inverted, so that the live edge is in the middle. Thus, with an epoxy fill. And a bowtie in the epoxy as an island piece of wood.
That should make some people scream in frustration.
Cam, the time-warping, gravity-defying, plastic wrapping god amongst us mere mortals.

"best possible gift for the givaway" - hmm very subjective, for new makers your time and advice would be invaluable, for fans of your work whom are not makers; an art piece, and for more advanced makers maybe a bit of interesting wood to make something with or possibly for overseas an agreement to pay for something maker related they can use?
For the haters, let me help you out here Cam, there's a simple mantra you can say to all the haters, on whichever side they are on "when YOU are the one doing the work, then YOU can make the decisions - but as it's ME doing the work, then I will make the decisions - if you don't like that, there are plenty of other YT channels for you to "go get your hate on" elsewhere" (and I would personally add - "so you can GTFO" - but you're probably nicer than I am to haters)
Edit - you're welcome for the nylon brushes idea (would have been great to get a shoutout if it was me who gave the idea first - not that I'm needy or anything... just, y'know woulda been cool n all...)
Oh and instead of calling it "Elm" - how about "Ulmus wood" - that's the Latin genus identification.

The short version of this is “my workshop, my rules” (or “my workshop, my designs”).
If they so strongly object to tables being made that way, they can get their own workshop and make their own tables!

    • @rafezetter8003
      @rafezetter8003 3 роки тому

@@s_rofbear well yes, but the thing is "my workshop, my rules" doesn't really encompass the fact that these people seem to be watching a YT'er that seems to annoy them - hence the sugestion they move on.

I subbed to you after literally watching one video. I enjoy the talking rather than music or tool sounds. I'm not even into wood working or carpentry. I'm a concrete guy. But for some reason thses make me relax alot after working 10 hrs a day!

I can’t imagine not watching the whole video. You make your epoxy work look so easy. Here in Ga, with our humidity and heat, I struggled when building a boat. A wooden boat requires a lot of epoxy. I enjoy these videos.

It's mesmerizing how you bring wood slabs to beautiful works of art. Before the end of the second video, I knew I'd never do half the work you do on a single piece. I'm still hooked. The best prize (for me) is watching the process. Also enjoy your humor. ❤

I got into ceramics back in 1970 when it was too cold to go outside in Minot North Dakota. Unfortunately it was beyond my Air Force wages. Watching you 54 years later makes me wish I had stayed with it. Love your projects and your videos. Hey, if you don't TALK, we don't LEARN!

Im actually thinking of trying this on a smaller scale after watching your videos. I was a professional welder for 32 years and can make my own bases. But I live by a wood supply place that has some beautiful smaller live edge rounds etc that I think would make very nice end tables etc. I have zero woodworking or epoxy experience though.
As a side note, brother you make some amazing tables. Makes me wish I had the money to buy one!

your sense of humor is one of the things that sets you apart. Your comments about the particularly shaped . . . anomaly in the slab were hilarious. Yes, they were arguably off-color, but thats' humor for you. Don't let the critics / naysayers limit you. (I watched til the end but have no suggestions for you)

We do not see much elm here on the east coast, Dutch elm disease got them all over 30 years ago, did not have my own saw mill to make stock with then, but with the Ash almost gone now, I did get some, ash coffee table almost a lude as yours, not as head on, no one has noticed it before I mentioned it, but everyone agrees. Thank you for the effort producing these, you seem to have the answers to so many of my problems, which I conveniently find 2 days after I had them
