Great work, thinking of doing this myself. For removing ports like the micro USB port a hot-air station does wonders. Add some extra solder to the anchor points, heat the connector up with the hot air, and pull up on the port when the solder melts.
Really neat, I wish I can do that with my Dualshock days of play edition but it's to much of a hassle so better I'm leaving it to the professionals, nice video man.
This board appears to be missing 2 0402 size resistors that they decided to jump using solder instead so be careful on what u use these for. clean looking mod mod, a friend showed me your video so thought i'd mention the resistors.
@@remorsehorse they are used to make it usb 2 compliant incase plugged into a usb c on a laptop or a usb c charger as that would damage components. usb 2 usually draws 5v were usb can deliver much more.

The problem with this was the LED light, since its not on the proper position it wont lit the triangle thingy and the part on the touchpad. I just opened up a ds4 because i want to dim more the led light with some tape. So i just realized this light thing

I've gotta tell you - if you aren't experienced with soldering and electronics it could be a difficult one, just because there is so little room to work. I would check it out and plan it, then decide whether you're gonna go ahead or not. Don't do anything hasty! Good luck!

Hi I'm new to all this modding stuff so please be kind if I ask dumb questions. Is the discolouration normal when soldering? Would you recommend a hot pad or am I OK with just the iron to start?
Hi! Yeah some discoloration is pretty normal. You need to not linger and things too hot. I don't know what a hot pad is I'm afraid 😅 If you haven't soldered before you will have a bad time doing something like this. If you can get an old PCB and practice taking parts on and off you'll probably learn a lot
I don't have much to add really. Ground and 5 volts is obviously power, then the data pins (which don't actually work) would be for the controller signals if you were playing wired

nowadays theres a guy that sells usb-c boards from norway for 10$ per board. just take your controller apart, unscrew the micro-usb board and check the back which model of board it is, then order the corresponding model. hes even got tutorials on how to do it. the only other thing you need is a needle file set to grind away some of the plastic so the new usb-c can fit. channel name is Marius Heier

Port Durability should be better, along with USB-C's reversable nature, and possible future proofing. Plus USB-C will get more common with time, more devices will use it, and a lot of things already use it, such as the Switch Pro Controller, DualSense 5, Xbox Elite Controller 2, a decent bit of Modern phones. So it would cut down on needing different cable types sooner or later.
I guess you'd have to find a way to transpose the LED because keeping it in the proper position obviates any room for an unupgraded charge port.. one way would be to order a second board off mobile sentrix and split the functions between your original and the donor. But that would be some work. Otherwise just rework the microUSB off and place it with a usb-c. If its not too painful to navigate the pin-out conversion
Unfortunately, you do lose some functionality when using thsi controller with PS4 games... Just some selected games and with a PS camera :P The light bar is needed in these cases. If you don't use the light bar at all, power to you and good job.
Ok I just checked. The orange is 24AWG and I had a little bit of a tough time with it. I think using 20 will be very difficult. The black is 30AWG and much easier. Do note the post from Marius here about his USBC replacement board - that will be an awesome drop-in solution if it works! Saves messing up the light too

I have adapters on all my usb c devices so i only need micro usb cables lying around. I have a lot more devices that use micro usb including my phone. Only device not switch-related that uses USB C is my computer and that i have to adapt to regualr sized usb. So i have no native usb c devices.

@@SalmanKhan-ll3ku If you're new to soldering I think you would need quite a lot of practice before you take on something like this. If you're not particularly interested in buying equipment for other jobs like this, you'd be best off investing in a PS5 controller instead I think

Yeah used to work with one of those. Very handy piece of kit! That and lots of foil tape to shield off the other components

I've used 30AWG for projects like this and its great. Its carried at some hardware under the name "wrapping wire".
Yep, the slim black kynar wire is 30AWG and would have been fine for all this stuff

I have to try this sometime. The usb b micro is so unreliable, disconnects easily when charging

You need to de-solder it. If you're not experienced at soldering I'd steer well clear of doing this

What gauge of wire did you use for this?
The wrong gauge! I think the black Kynar is 30AWG, which is much more appropriate
