- Drum Legend Mike Mangini (ANNIHILATOR, Extreme, Steve Vai, Dream Theater) with Jeff Waters (ANNIHILATOR) in studio Nov 2003.
ANNIHILATOR's All For You (2004) sessions in Boston, Mass, USA.
4:58 "Holy Shit" lol
Mangini is a great drummer, but also, he is a great mate and man. He is always so humble and close to the fans. He expels joy, passion and love for what he does. A drum monster! Technique, feeling, speed and versatility :) Really, one of the best drummers I´ve ever seen, even before joining DT, he has been always an inspiration. MANGINI RULES!
It's the sheer joy of what he really does is what matters in the end. His enthusiasm is contagious. Way to go, Mike.
Well said Marco!!
13:55 - WTF. Insanity. Mike is amazing.
The album is: 'Annihilator - All For You (2004)', is the second album featuring Mike Mangini on the drums.
Mangini never seems to express having this much fun playing in a concert setting. He should! The crowd would love it.
The crowd can't see his face
@@AchmadGhiffari or his body. All they see is a shadowy figure flailing around behind a brightly lit wall of drums
I like this guy , he still has that child excitement ,, he's great
No.1 In the world
Waters and Mangini, perfect pairing
One of the greatest vids on mangini he is hilarious
Mike = The Drum Machine.
"Holyyyy shiiiit"
Indeed
That old truck of Mike’s was hilarious. Back when I was at Berklee, he pulled up next to me as I was leaving, leaned over to the passenger side window and said “dude, ahh you leavin? I’m runnin late for a lesson!” It was so fucking funny...his truck looked like an old hippy van meets Silence of the Lambs. “Duuude, I’m wicked crippled over heah...can you help me get this couch into the trunk?”
This is so sweet. Even when he's playing something simple, I'm still captivated!
and he said that the dt15 drumming is the most unrelenting hes played since annihilator ..damn, after seeing this im excitedddd
Mike is the textbook definition of a New England citizen.
an excellent professional drummer who can play with his senses! Mr. Mangini.
Mike Mangini is an amazing drummer.....period. I hear all this Mike Portnoy shit everywhere, and to be honest, Mike Portnoy left Dream Theater because he wanted to try new things and Mangini wanted to be his replacement. Both are amazing drummers in their own ways. Everyone, take a chill pill!
Exactly! If Mike Portnoy wanted to stay in DT, then he should have. You can't expect other people to put their lives and careers on hold because you want to do something different. Mangini is phenomenal, I definitely prefer his playing with Annihilator.... Jeff Waters is one of my favorite guitar players and song writers, so that goes without saying.
Plus, I really like what Portnoy is doing in The Winery Dogs.
Most people don't know Mike Portnoy requested Mangini. John Petrucci has also known Mangini for a long time. Afterall he is a professor at Berklee where Dream Theater was formed. I don't understand the arguments, they're both awesome. I really miss Mike Mangini in Annihilator though, my favorite band.
jlarsena
And actually Mike and Mike are good friends
Portnoy did not request Mangini. Petrucci said that Mangini came on stage and did a drum battle/solo with Portnoy and the rest of DT was like "Who is this guy? He's awesome!". And also Mangini was the first name that came to all their minds when they were thinking of Portnoy's replacement
*****
is there any video of this? because the portnoy requesting mangini is what I've always heard and mangini even kinda hints at that being the case in a video i seen about him n dt a while back though nothing was 100% said regardless as everyone has said both are great.
When I was recording KNIGHTFALL with Waters in 2007 he was saying how he never thought of video taping shows and recording in the early days, not thinking that it might be valuable later! In the 2000s he started documenting more.
I love Mike Mangini, I love Annihilator!!!
11:14 everyone. I'm gonna have my wedding dance to this song.
He rolls faster with one hand than most with two hands, freaking speed demon.
What a fat and solid sound! And hellyeah, Jeff is the king of riffs!
This guy is such a legend
2003? Wow. Damn you are young.
Amazing..
Drumers no 1
IMO...The two best snare drum sounds I've EVER heard...Bonzo and The One (this video version) good going Mike...Nice job here. GREAT material.
i could watch this recording session all day O_O ..Mangini.. holy pooh!
Mangini the machine, unreal!!!
11.23 make me goosebump
Tempo and timing is perfect.
wow..... perfect!!
"holy shit!" LOL
Amazing 🤩
1:23 "whoa that feels good mate" LMAO
What a beautiful artist you are Mike. Left/right hand leading is simply astounding! Thanks for the video.
just another day with mangini Mike .. ROCKIN' THE DAY \m/
Feel, technique, versatility, time/pocket feel to name a few
Wish Mike would've stayed with Annihilator. He was such a good fit, playing and personality wise.
Effin' fast twitch muscles...holy presto Batman. Otherworldly, and sweetheart to boot. Inspiring Mike
Just hafta tune up my kick now...😊
He's a fukkin machine! Brutal, with a smile. He loves you, Jeff. No question. You bring out the awesome in him.
I do remember the video where Mike broke the single stroke speed record some years ago. What, it was over 1000 strokes in one minute. World record.
12:05 "mIkE MaNgInI hAS nO FeEl"
If you're still one of those people who say that bs, you have no idea of what you're talking about. Mangini is a complete musician.
Сплошное удовольствие вернуться через 17 лет и наблюдать это
thx for this
So Good.
Gosh, he is fast as hell. And very creative actually. Different of most of the people opnion over here.
Great video!
Yes he is. I've seen alot of live vids and my friends have seen him with Dream Theater...and he moves that fast!
Thanks!
Thanks man ;)
He was a way better match for Annihilator than for Dream Theater. Do you have video of him recording for "Set the World On Fire", Jeff?
Best DT ever sounded was with Mangini too.
I forgot how awsome Annihilator was! Mangini ofc is a freakin beast! Of to my old cd player and cd stack to get some rockin done!
and thats the amazing Jeff Waters with him recording to his tracks! (Annihilator)!!
Technique and versatility and time are objective.
Great scott !
Seriously he should be that way with DT , amazing drummer
+HOLLOWOXDT1 man, now he is 12 years older. give him a break. and i really don't think all that speed would fit well in DT songs imo. maybe dragonforce or fleshgod apocalypse (although they already have their own aliens in their drums)
i dont mean by that way speed but more Drum Tone or should i say like mangini toooooooooooone !!
Good work Mike
Mangini es una BESTIA! \m/
Love Hi Mike
I'm EXHAUSTED!
This Sound is fucking awesome, too
The song All For You has such an Alice In Chains feel to it. The album is still really good, even though it's all over the place.
To mutch awesomeness for my computer to handle!
O álbum " Set The World on fire" foi um álbum espetacular onde mangini participou com o grande vocalista Aron Handal.
mike es el jodido amo¡¡¡
He is beast
Now THAT I can agree with! The total " Been doin this 4ever" casual sit down and paradiddle your face off....with ease!!! These guys inspire those who have the desire, ya know?
1:06 this is when he started his signature drum kit that the toms are mirrored and the cymbals are high
THE SICKEST
holy shitttttttttttt
Massachusetts represent
It's "All For You". I searched "Weapon X" up on UA-cam, and the picture was the "All For You" Album Cover
I have no idea how anyone moves their hands and feet that fast.
Precision
"Bled" of off the "All for you" album by Annihilator
the one music from all for you album :)
U re right, IMO and respect DT auditions, Marco was the fking best in every part. He is a real complete musician, he can read piano, he can play piano, guitar, bass guitar, with a decent level. And obviously with a monster level on Drums.
Toca muito!!!
Sou muito fã do Portnoy...
Mas o Mangini é muito f... tbm
What is the last bit he plays from? With the fast right hand? Is it from a song? Please tell me!
Yes it can.
84 snare drums, and he managed to take the worst one to put on The Last Dream Theater record ..
That was the mixers fault. Not the snare drums
totally agree. horrible sound on the snare........
***** I was trolling a bit, obviously the pearl reference snares are amazing (just listen to the previous album ADTOE, the snare is amazing), but i would not only blame the sound engineer, the snare on the last album sounds goofy because it was tuned like shit ...
it's just so weird. Harmonically, the snare blends so much with the pitches and range of the toms. It falls so far back in the mix. Every engineer and producer I know is aware of this kind of stuff. It must have been what Mangini wanted.
In some songs it wasn't so bad, though others it sounded like they were artificially made a lower note (auto tuned sounding).
Holy Shit
what song in the first section ?
Mangini GOD
Are any of these takes on the album? I don't remember hearing these speed fills...
All For You.
Hello!whats the Annihalator album is Mike playing here????somebody knows?:)thanks
Anyone know what that last song is? Starts at 13:51
fucking wowness O_O
whats the name of the song in the minute 6?
I love to watch mike's hair at 3:43
I've been watching Mike Mangini videos for years now but I can truthfully say, 100% honestly, this is the first video I've seen of him playing something I would be able to play myself. It seems sort of odd and out of place to watch him play so few notes so slow. Lol I kind of like it but it's still weird to think this is the man Mangini.
What is the name of this song 5:53?
Well if you're going by this video he was 10 years younger.
03:36 Slayer, Pantera, Lamb of God, Exodus and Deep Purple (Referring to the Keyboards)
Holy shit!!! Indeed,.. ha ha ha
Here I thought Mr. waters was using a drum machine the whole time...kinda was. :P. Mangini ftw
:D np
