This hard to find audiobook has now been fully restored and remastered. This novel was not released in UNABRIDGED audiobook format to the general public, until the Essential Legends version was released in 2022, read by Sam Witwer - this audiobook is the original recording of the UNABRIDGED version.
Note: There was an ABRIDGED version released in 2007, read by Michael Cumpsty (3 hour, 14 minute length).
This is a slight departure from my current work organizing works chronologically from the Old Republic Era... expect me to be 100% focused on the Old Republic until every novel, novella, & short story has been organized and made available in audiobook format.

Story Line:
Darth Maul, merciless apprentice of evil and one of the legendary Sith, a twisted order given over to the dark side of the Force…Darth Maul, champion of the nefarious Sith Lord, Darth Sidious…Darth Maul, a legend sprung to life from the nightmares of history, about to be unleashed…in an all-new tale of intrigue and mystery set just before the events of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.
After years of waiting in the shadows, Darth Sidious is taking the first step in his master plan to bring the Republic to its knees. He meets secretly with his Neimoidian contacts in the Trade Federation to plan the blockade of the planet Naboo. But one member of the delegation is missing, and Sidious does not need his Force-honed instincts to suspect betrayal. He orders his apprentice, Darth Maul, to hunt the traitor down.
On Coruscant, capital city of the Republic, the Neimoidian moves quickly to sell what he knows to the highest bidder. For Lorn Pavan, an information broker, the deal is too good to pass up. He grabs it, unaware that he has now earned a place on Darth Maul's hit list, right behind the Neimoidian defector himself.
Meanwhile, a young Jedi Padawan by the name of Darsha Assant stands on the verge of ascension to Jedi Knighthood. A single mission will be her test. But a greater test awaits her. For in the labyrinthine alleyways and sewers of Coruscant's own dark side, she will cross paths with Lorn, who is fleeing from the Sith stalker, carrying with him crucial information that must reach the Jedi Council at all costs.
The future of the Republic depends on Darsha and Lorn. But how can an untried Jedi and an ordinary man, stranger to the powerful ways of the Force, hope to triumph over one of the deadliest killers in the galaxy?

I'm only relatively new to Mchael Reaves but recently read the first Coruscant Nights book and first Medstar book and LOVED them! Halfway through Shadow Hunter now and I'm certain that Reaves is my favourite SW author now. His writing is so easy, exciting, imaginitive and feels really wholesome. I feel like I'm really in the SW universe when I read his books. RIP to him 🙌

This was the first audio book I ever listened too, on cassette tape from my local library. I didnt even know audiobooks were a thing until I found this on the shelf, opened the box and saw the tapes inside. Hearing the story, on top of all the sound effects and everything, ever since then I've been hooked on audio books.

Michael Reaves was the most underrated author in all the galaxy far far away.
His novels were great, full of unique ideas and awesome characters. Who would think of a droid with a soul, or a herb that multiplies the force connection to an individual!

I wish we still had narrators like this who didn't need silly accents or sound effects and who just READ the story! It's so nice to listen to a real human being without any excess background noises or silly, digitally created voices!

Darth maul one of my favorite sith lords has an audiobook that makes him the menace that he is, I HATE (for the most part ) what they did to his character in the clone wars tv series and rebels.
Agreed ... he became a bit sniveling in rhe last 2 seasons ... although the half spider body was interesting (in part, because it was temporary)
I don’t consider the clone wars except for the original one season real canon

The couldnt com other Jedi for assistance or even to alert them of a Sith being seen and confirmed? They has a full conversation and didn't com anyone. Jedi are such wastemen
They didn't contact anyone because her master was trying to help her complete her mission so she could become a Jedi Knight (without the council's knowledge)...
Then her Master dies and she has lost her comm. 🙈
With that said... I think spotting a Sith would supercede that course of action)...

Darsha is so badly written: her choices are very frustrating. If her character is intended to prove, that the average Jedi of the Republic have lost the plot/are badly trained, it's a success.
I wish, the author had given Darth Maul adversaries of his own caliber. Where is the challenge in him going after a child, who cant make it to Knight rank?
I suppose it is with good reason that Darsha never becomes a Jedi Knight 😂
She's a pre-Sith Padawan. Even though she does dumb things she still held her own against a Sith Lord.
