Completely agree! As far as billy woods and Armand Hammer, i think Armand Hammer’s Haram would be a perfect album. Such great lyrics and sound. And billy woods and Moor Mother’s collab album BRASS would be amazing to see on here too
Finally, great to see a comment mentioning these guys get a high number of votes! I'm sure Earl will happen eventually cz he's on another tier of fame than the other dudes, but I just need to see Bob talk about woods. Ka and Rory are great suggestions too, all these artists are just a little more on the up-and-coming side of things compared to most of the suggestions on here. The Philips SHP9500/00 headphones are really good quality and have a lot of space for large ears. Also open-back headphones, so you can hear what's going on in the house and you have a larger sound stage 🙌🏽
Def need to do all my heroes are cornballs and LP! at some point. Btw, Peggy is pretty well versed in metal/rock too. He references metal bands as influences often and came up in the hardcore scene in Baltimore. That’s why in I cannot fucking wait till morrissey dies, the opening line is specifically referring to Tom Araya from Slayer (who has expressed some pro trump sentiment), Varg Vikernes from Mayhem (who is a far right white supremacist and is quite open about it) and then, obviously, Morrissey, who was a very adamant supporter of Brexit and made a ton of alt-right sympathizing statements during the mid 2010’s. The song is political in nature.
@@jakmak94 yes, he killed Euronymous while he was in the band and served a lengthy prison sentence for it lol. Musically he’s probably more well known for his work in Burzum, but in general I think he’s better know as being a murderous part of Mayhem’s crazy ass history as a band lmao.
@@jakmak94 I love metal but I’m not huge into black metal. Only black metal band I love is behemoth, and they’re more of a death metal/black metal hybrid. There’s a lot more crazy shit than just the bassist killing the guitarist of the same band, believe it or not.
BOB!! Blonde meets death grips is a brilliant, genius comparison and makes so much sense! I love that the arsenal of hip hop you are accumulating is paying off in such a rewarding way! And it's funny to think about Frank Ocean and Death Grips in a collaborative way, because essentially it gives birth to an artist like Tyler. And Frank Ocean is Tyler's old close friend, real life bro, and musical teammate in Odd Future (Wolf Gang Kill Them All) its trippy to think about! Listen to Kanyes Graduation with Headphones ON cause its such a musical Rollercoaster, with such epic heights that it's my favorite Kanye Album- it's so thematically epic!
Thank you for putting me onto artists I would never try out by myself! You truly make these first listens much more enjoyable. I would recommend Kid Cudi's discography since there is much skill and specialty with his type of sound along with lyrics you could analyze and get into
Holy shit I’m so excited for this. All of the more classic reactions have been great and also stuff like Kendrick has been fantastic but Peggy is the kind of contemporary sounds that get me super hyped today!! Glad to see you doing this album bob!!!
Love watching first listens to this album. I got into Peggy back in 2016 with his albums “Black Ben Carson” and “The 2nd Amendment” but he really clicked with me the first time I heard this album. Brings me back to early 2018!
What makes Peggy truly a unique and special artist is that he also produces and mixes all these seemingly unrappable beats, he's also extremely humble and kind in-person. I love him very much. Ghost Pop Tape is worth checking out considering when it came out and how early on he was creating a sound that is distinctly his.
I'm really happy you finally reacted to this been waiting since early july for this. What I find quite interesting about Veteran is its f*ck it attitude throughout, the lack of consistency in lyrics and sounds, randomness being the only consistent theme the album goes by, and Peggy himself said that this album represents a exagerated version oh himself and metaphorically how lurking through the internet sounds like, almost serving like musical shitposting (in a pretty genius and unique way), so that kinda sums it out, however another very important part is how diverse and adventurous Peggy's music can get, and maybe cause of the sound of this album and previous ones it gives the impression of being a Death Grips type artist cause all similar aggressiveness, but going back and forward between his discography you realize certain things, sort of what Tyler The Creator sounded like at first and how different he sounds now, with the exception that Peggy's sound has changed, evolved and get mixed together so much since his very first mixtapes when he went by Devon Hendryx more than 10 years ago. And that part is what relates pretty heavily to me and many others, the passion and the commitment to his art, from where nobody give a crap about him to just now where he's finally getting all the credit and merit he deserved for a long ass time just by keeping it real to himself. Thanks so much for the video again, and I hope in the future you do your reaction to what I think are his best work yet, All My Heroes Are Cornballs and The Ghost Pop Tape :)
Peggy is such a mensch. I saw this man back in 2018 in Philly and after his show he waited and took pics with everyone who wanted to meet up after the show.
Been binging your reactions all day and I think this is your best one so far. The way you’re able to pick up on the song structures and lyrical meaning in just one go is incredible. Not to mention being able to appreciate new sounds and vocals is amazing. Your getting better and better with each review and I can’t wait to watch what you put out next. I would recommend continuing with JPEGMAFIA’S discography it’s all good and you seem to like it.
as far as experimental hip hop albums by the time I get to pheonix by injury reserve is a really strong listen it was my album of the year this year by far and may end up eventually being in my faves of all time
I've briefly met Peggy twice - once after a show in Columbus Ohio and once after a show at The Agora Cleveland in 2023. He was genuinely the most humble, kind and joyful artist I have ever met. I asked him to sign my black Playstation 2 memory card and he had a hearty laugh from it.
It sounds impossible, lol... Idid a top 10 of Tyler when I finished all his albums, and that was incredibly difficult. What's hard isn't getting the ten, it's ditching the other 60 songs that qualify
seeing your reaction made me wish i could listen to veteran for the first time again. i hope you give all my heroes are cornballs and LP! a listen too!
Dude, honestly... this may have been my favorite "initial experience" with an album so far. It's hard to make that call because so many of these albums have been very different from each other, but this was like the perfect blend of... everything
Peggy’s one of my favorites of all time. His new album LP! is probably my favorite by him, it’s kinda like a culmination of all his music. You should listen to it, you would need to listen to the offline version on SoundCloud or UA-cam tho.
One of my favorite albums omg… Please consider giving LP! by jpegmafia or Imperial by Denzel Curry a listen. Those were my two favorite albums this year.
Bob finally reacting to Peggy (one of my favorite artist ♥ i just love all his work) i'm really glad you liked it :D and i hope you also listen to his eps and singles. They are all worthy
AND please if you're gonna listen in the future to his "LP!" Album listen to the OFFLINE VERSION (it's only on UA-cam and Bandcamp) and it's the real version of the album (and it has more songs too)
jpegmafia also released like 4 albums under the name devon hendryx and theres a really good album called the ghost pop tape you should check out after LP! and all my heros are cornballs
He has 9 projects under Devon Hendryx: Generation Y, Since I Left You II, JOECHILLWORLD, LISA, The Rockwood Escape Plan, Dreamcast Summer Songs, ❤️, GenY⁵, and The Ghost Pop Tape. Although really it's 7 because Dreamcast and SILY are the same album just edited, same with geny5 and ghost pop tape
you might enjoy "iridescence" by brockhampton, it's this industrial rap album that took a pretty large step away from the bands original sound with the departure of one of the members from their first three albums (you might like those too!)
I interpreted "blood on my money" as potentially also referring to his feelings on his military service, with the "no stains" being a bit of a contradiction in that he'd like to think of himself & present himself as being faultless, when he might not necessarily feel that way deep down.
I have loved the journey you’ve done through hip-hop I started watching from yeezus and watched every vid since!!! You’re thoughts on music and life in general are great to hear! I would love to recommend run the jewels especially 2,3, and 4. Keep up the great vids!!!
Dude, that's so awesome. I wonder sometimes how many people have been along for this journey vs. those that just check out the albums they like. Run the Jewels is on my list, but they're not quite to the top yet.
The "Real Nega" sample is Goin Down - Ol Dirty Bastard, one of my fav starts to a song ever I remember I used to compete during recess to see who could do that voice stretch the longest without using your full voice lol
the voice used in the beat on the 2nd track samples old dirty bastard, member of rap group wu tang clan also, the travis scott "feature" on williamsburg is a sample too.
Loved this reaction and listen ! Probably my favorite one you’ve done so far. It’s inspiring to see you keep pushing your music knowledge into these more experimental albums and artists. Keep doing gods work
Hi bob, love what youre doing. While LP! is his latest and we can say his most polished work, I'd like for you to review All My Heroes Are Cornballs first. It's his start in getting into way more RnB inspired sounds. It's after veteran. Thanks!
It’s great to see you pick up on the parallels between Peggy and Frank Ocean, Death Grips, and Aphex Twin. It’s also hilarious to see you go into the Genius annotations only to go “fuck that I don’t agree”. Welcome to being a modern rap fan LOL. Real Nega samples the vocals of the legendary Ol Dirty Bastard. He was a member of Wu Tang Clan and is a pioneer of alternative hip hop and a huge influence on experimental sounds in rap, especially for Danny Brown who I’m also super hyped for you to check out. This album contains a lot of themes of anxiety and PTSD which can relate to both his experience in the military and his experience dealing with growing up on the internet. Many of the instrumentals are warped digital messes sampling obscure UA-cam clips and containing references to memes caught mainly by the terminally online. You can really feel that despair on tracks like Rainbow Six and Panic Emoji. I thought Peggy perfectly captured the relationship between braggadocio in rap while covering up the pain underneath, as well as trolling the alt right while still feeling hurt by all the racism and hate they put forth. These are brazen attitudes cut in hostility. But you can tell especially in his interviews (check out his latest one with Nardwuar) that he’s a thoughtful, sensitive dude. I don’t think his aggression is necessarily a front, but I do think it’s a product of his environment. It’s sadly relatable as a response to ennui of the social media age. ALSO I should add the “you think you know me” sample throughout the album is from pro wrestler Edge’s theme music, which was produced by Jim Johnston. I’m not sure if that’s the true origin of the sample, but that’s definitely where it was popularized. JPEGMAFIA’s music contains many references to wrestling, and he’s actually gotten involved with a new company All Elite Wrestling, appearing in some vignettes with Darby Allin. The hip-hop/wrestling connection is absolutely booming right now with Peggy, Griselda Records, and Wale (just to name a few) rapping about it all the time.
Not sure if you’ll see this at this point, or if it even matters, but 11:00 pressed just means “angry” so when you’re not pressed, you don’t care, you’re not angry, you’re not letting it bother you etc.
its funny that you mention TOOL because the bassist for TOOL (justin chancellor) plays bass on a couple death grips' albums, I'm also a big fan of TOOL
Haven't even started the video but much respect for trying a experimental album like veteran especially for a new rap and hiphop listener. I Love Peggy and this album.
You listening to peggy is unexpected, but it makes me excited that your reacting to sort of newer albums, you definitely have to listen to TA13OO by Denzel Curry, it came out the same year as this album and peggy even features in one of the tracks
Another comment mentioned the Beyerdyanmics 770, 880, 990's which I highly recommend, I have the 770's, a bit more bass being closed backed! I also recommend the AKG K240's, I've had them longer and wear them daily, it's difficult to state which have more space for your ears, but I can wear my K240's longer with no fatigue personally. Loved your reaction, can't wait to catch more, PopPop!
Bob, about the headphones, I do also have big ears, and the comfortable headphones that i currently use is the Logitech g332, It also has a very great sound
Give how much you enjoyed this I have a feeling you'd like the newest Injury Reserve album. It's a pretty dark and emotional album dealing with the death of one of the band members through industrial hip hop with a lot of post punk samples
So Jpegmafia is a huge pro wrestling fan I believe almost every track has s wrestling reference somewhere. The "You think you know me" producer tag is from edges stinger before all his themes. Besides that he has become involved in pro wrestling in AEW where he's done videos with wrestler Darby Allin
I'm a rocker too. I like "BALD!" and "Real Nega". I saw him live without knowing any songs and got my old gen-x ass in a good mosh pit. Not bad, kids. Jpegmafia needs to be louder though. I didn't feel that "bump" in my chest like at rock shows. He is killing it by himself other than that man
Hey man, I discovered your videos a couple of days ago and I really love your reactions! It's rare to find a reaction channel that pays so much attention to the lyrics. Also, I think its pretty commendable that your willing to step out of your comfort zone and listen to stuff like this. Knowing that you're a rock fan, you should ABSOLUTELY react to the band "Lightning Bolt". They're basically the musical version of a headache, but in a really good way, I think you'll really enjoy them! I would personally suggest either their third full length "Hypermagic Mountain" or the follow up "Earthly Delights". Both classic records although Hypermagic Mountain is considered to be their magnum opus.
Holy fucking god I never expected this. I’m so so so so happy you did this. Jpeg is one of the most creative and under appreciated artists in the game rn

But when I saw that he likes delving into the lyrics, I thought of them all immediately. Haram, BRASS or Hiding Places would be great places to start.
@@matthewhallinan6453 Moor Mother would be incredible too. Her album Black Encyclopedia of the Air is my rap album of the year
The Philips SHP9500/00 headphones are really good quality and have a lot of space for large ears. Also open-back headphones, so you can hear what's going on in the house and you have a larger sound stage 🙌🏽
can vouch for these
Theyre good but not the best for hiphop
@@tofuteh2348 yeah I guess so, you lose out on some bass
He’s probably topped this album twice now with his latest two. Everyone always mentions LP but AMHAC, the album after veteran, is my favorite
VETERAN hits me the hardest but AMHAC is objectively the best of the three. LP is insane too
Def need to do all my heroes are cornballs and LP! at some point.
I acually had no idea varg was in mayhem, I only knew him from burzum lmao
@@jakmak94 yes, he killed Euronymous while he was in the band and served a lengthy prison sentence for it lol. Musically he’s probably more well known for his work in Burzum, but in general I think he’s better know as being a murderous part of Mayhem’s crazy ass history as a band lmao.
@@ManuelPerez-tp6re lmao yeah I’m not big into metal culture like at all just enjoy the music, so that’s probably why
@@jakmak94 I love metal but I’m not huge into black metal. Only black metal band I love is behemoth, and they’re more of a death metal/black metal hybrid.
But if you ever wanna see the craziest Wikipedia page for a band ever……. Look at Mayhem’s page. There’s a lot more crazy shit than just the bassist killing the guitarist of the same band, believe it or not.
You need to hear All My Heroes Are Cornballs and LP! (offline version) too. All his albums are unique like this.
Thank god this probably won’t get taken down because this is such a amazing album. Peggy is a legend
Thank you for putting me onto artists I would never try out by myself! You truly make these first listens much more enjoyable. I would recommend Kid Cudi's discography since there is much skill and specialty with his type of sound along with lyrics you could analyze and get into
Kid Cudi is high on my radar 👍
Holy shit I’m so excited for this. All of the more classic reactions have been great and also stuff like Kendrick has been fantastic but Peggy is the kind of contemporary sounds that get me super hyped today!! Glad to see you doing this album bob!!!
This album was so much fun, holy shit
@@bobthepoppop glad to see you really enjoyed it!!!
"I've never felt so much control, amongst so much chaos."
Couldn't have put it better, exactly why I love jpeg's music 😂
Finally!!! This album is incredible!!! Happy to see you finally be introduced to Peggy!!
Bob, you should check out the Saturation trilogy by BROCKHAMPTON, think you would love them
Thats a damn good idea
Would love to see this reaction
I love when you said you've never heard so much control amongst chaos. That's exactly how I feel about his music.
Thanks for taking the time to write this up. I love seeing this kind of enthusiasm around artists and their music 😊
You should do a top 10 or 20 songs you've heard from these react videos for this year. I think a lot of us would find that interesting.
It sounds impossible, lol... Idid a top 10 of Tyler when I finished all his albums, and that was incredibly difficult. What's hard isn't getting the ten, it's ditching the other 60 songs that qualify
@@bobthepoppop give us a top 💯🐍
seeing your reaction made me wish i could listen to veteran for the first time again. i hope you give all my heroes are cornballs and LP! a listen too!
One of my favorite albums omg…
Please consider giving LP! by jpegmafia or Imperial by Denzel Curry a listen. Those were my two favorite albums this year.
LP! one of the greatest albums I've ever heard!!!!!
Bob finally reacting to Peggy (one of my favorite artist ♥ i just love all his work) i'm really glad you liked it :D and i hope you also listen to his eps and singles. They are all worthy
AND please if you're gonna listen in the future to his "LP!" Album listen to the OFFLINE VERSION (it's only on UA-cam and Bandcamp) and it's the real version of the album (and it has more songs too)
So far, everyone has said to listen to the offline version, so that's basically a guarantee at this point 👍
I’d kill to see a long conversation/interview between Bob and Peggy
Me too. I should send him a DM. He'd probably say yes, the crazy bastard.
jpegmafia also released like 4 albums under the name devon hendryx and theres a really good album called the ghost pop tape you should check out after LP! and all my heros are cornballs
@@bobthepoppop yeah watched all your videos haha here for the journey I get excited asf when I see the notification of a new vid
Morissey is the lead singer of the 80s indie rock band The Smiths, and has stirred controversy with his recent political comments.
The "Real Nega" sample is Goin Down - Ol Dirty Bastard, one of my fav starts to a song ever I remember I used to compete during recess to see who could do that voice stretch the longest without using your full voice lol
Even on your first listens your lyrical breakdowns give me a new perspective on tracks I've heard 100s of times. Big ups!
the screaming in track two is a ol dirty bastard sample
and morrissey is the singer from the smiths
This album is so chaotic but so good. Easily a classic for the experimental scene
"Ok team. Follow my command." is from Counter Strike 1.6 or Source. Great memories playing that all the time.
Gotta watch "Thug Tears" on the Colors show. One of the best live performances you'll ever see
Sennheiser 58Xs are my preferred kind and my ears are pretty big. Great reaction as always!
god i love this album. so chaotic, yet so obviously controlled and purposeful.
"Track twooo....
...
Track two."
😂
It's funny how you bring up tool because this guy also dissed tool in one of his 2015 projects Communist Slow Jams lol
On the second track it wasn't JPEGmafia, but sample of Ol' Dirty Bastard from Wu-Tang. I think you should listen both ODB and Wu eventually.
the voice used in the beat on the 2nd track samples old dirty bastard, member of rap group wu tang clan
also, the travis scott "feature" on williamsburg is a sample too.
Thanks!
Ayyyy looking fwd to checking this out tmr! Cheers Bob
The lengths you go to edit these videos are incredible. Excellent work
its funny that you mention TOOL because the bassist for TOOL (justin chancellor) plays bass on a couple death grips' albums, I'm also a big fan of TOOL
I already cant wait for your additional thoughts :D
After this I'm just insanely excited for the inevitable Atrocity Exhibition reaction!
Yes, we are rapidly approaching that one as well. Not scheduled yet, but it's getting close.
@@bobthepoppop I can't wait!! Thank you so much in advance :)) have a good night!
Bob, about the headphones, I do also have big ears, and the comfortable headphones that i currently use is the Logitech g332, It also has a very great sound
I know the Bill Hicks joke you are talking about.
The sound throughout this song is from an
Ol Dirty Bastard song called “Goin Down”
Give how much you enjoyed this I have a feeling you'd like the newest Injury Reserve album. It's a pretty dark and emotional album dealing with the death of one of the band members through industrial hip hop with a lot of post punk samples
Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory would definitely worth a listen!
On the list 👍
I love the way you listen to albums! You would be blown away if you ever watch Peggy’s live stuff, he has amazing stage presence and intensity imo
You’re a rocker who’s never heard of Morrisey? Damn bro what, lead singer of The Smiths
I'm gonna cheat and blame my dad. He never listened to that when I was growing up, so I never heard it 🤷♂️
If you’re looking for dark ambient, an earlier album of Peggy’s under the name Devon Hendrix called The Ghost Pop Tape is peak dark ambient imo
Awesome reaction, glad you enjoyed it! Glad to see this early in case copyright decides to strike again, those bastards!
THIS WAS MY CHRISTMAS PRESENT THANK YOU SO MUCH
I'm a rocker too. I like "BALD!" and "Real Nega". I saw him live without knowing any songs and got my old gen-x ass in a good mosh pit. Not bad, kids.
Jpegmafia needs to be louder though. I didn't feel that "bump" in my chest like at rock shows. He is killing it by himself other than that man
holy shit, I’ve been WAITING for this one. I’m so excited
Peggy shared your reaction!
loove this album so muchhhh!! great reaction!
One of my favourite albums of all time i hope he doesnt hate it
So glad u liked this album, honestly one of my favorite albums from Peggy. Can't wait to see you react to more of his stuff !
This a great birthday gift and oh yea LP! Is his best work gotta react to that. Great vid man
Happy Birthday! 🍻
@@bobthepoppop thanks man really appreciate it
Hey man, I discovered your videos a couple of days ago and I really love your reactions!
Not sure if anyone has recommended this, but I think you'd have a blast reacting to Mista Thug Isolation by Lil Ugly Mane. It's a killer lp
this is such a good review, you'd 100% enjoy his other albums they're just as odd and thought provoking. i'd love to see what you think
NEEDED THIS BOB!!
brilliant breakdown! I'm so happy you liked this :) and can't wait for your future jpeg reviews! subbed!
Holy fucking god I never expected this. I’m so so so so happy you did this. Jpeg is one of the most creative and under appreciated artists in the game rn
Man I really love coming back to this video
Hey! On the topic of Headphones, studio headphones with an open back design usually are great for bigger ears. My favorites would be the Audio Technica 70x!
