OMG Please do the entirety of JPEG's catalogue! Totally get if you stagger them out and don't go back to back, but I'd love to hear all his releases post-veteran!
hey man. first of all thanks for watching our videos. we see you commented that a lot so we actually checked him out before but he wasn't our cup of tea to be honest. however, i do want to ask, what is the appeal of this sort of rap? specifically this autotuned, childlike voice that seems to be popular. no disrespect, genuinely wondering as an old head lol
@@arch_m Ik I’m not op, but The voice has never bothered me but I guess I can see it could offput some people. It just sounds good to me tho lol and they have some great beats that create an atmosphere.
@@arch_mlike the other dude pointed out, the atmosphere. It's mostly self-produced lending it a cohesive soundscape of energetic drums + r&b samples that fuel nostalgia. The features from Pig are his sister. The mixtape title and cover left me pleasantly surprised at the 1of1-ness of this album. But it looks like I'm 0-1. An interview with him will show his voice isn't as effected as it seems. If you're an old head you'll like Bruiser Wolf then. He had a claim at aoty before Yeat dropped.
we appreciate the suggestion though. we recently saw earl sweatshirt recommending that album so youre in good company. for whatever reason, i really like die lit lol so thats probably the closest i like to that sort of rap
Yesss! So glad this is happening! I would really love to see you two react to By The Time I Get to Phoenix for your next voyage into experimental hip hop. Keep up the great work guys :)
this and black ben carson are the least sonically pleasing albums, meant to be more aggression and intentionally uncomfortable energy. i think the accessibility of AMHAC makes it his best, and LP! even more so, i think hearing those will really make you guys appreciate his production and artistry better! i loved this though
Every time I happen to stumble into this album I realize just how much better his Colors performance of Thug Tears is compared to the album version. That one SLAPS.
One correction though 1:34 Peggy did produce everything himself but 1 song, Real N*ga, that beat is produced by Chef Warren. It's a mess that situation but in short, Peggy really liked the beat so he asked for the stem and permission to use the beat in his album, Chef agreed. But then Chef never sent him the stems cause he forgot or something, basically ghosted Peggy. So Peggy remade the beat himself, paid Chef some money, but only credited Chef for the drums or something when the entire beat is Chef's. Peggy even went on to create a story of how he came up with the beat in interviews. In a show sort of recent Peggy even told Chef to khs, keep in mind that Chef has expressed having depression and comtemplated it before for getting his work stolen without proper credits. So yeah, Peggy is my favorite artist but this is extremely messed up behavior
at first i thought this too but going back and doing research i realized this man chef had ghosted peggy’s email for 7 months. it was the last song he had to mix before dropping veteran. peggy even initially offered to chef “if you don’t want me to use it, i can take it off the album” and then chef responded with a “i don’t have the stems anymore but thanks” back once veteran dropped. so in that case, he didn’t specify about anything. & this proves the beat was never stolen nor discredited. peggy just remade it that good to the point where chef thought it was a direct rip and “stole” it. now regardless of whose concept it is, i think the credits are accurate cuz imagine if u sample or recreate michael jackson, u don’t put “produced by michael jackson”. thats basically what chef’s trying to do here and at one point he made people like us sympathize with his clout-chasing jealousy pretty much. it makes since why peggy told him to khs cuz chef wouldn’t respond for months, and now at the peak of peggy’s career (STH) chef wants to only address the “situation” now? it’s ridiculous lmao but however you feel on it is what it is
@@lonersdreamworld chef been calling out this for YEARS, dude didn't just start to do it at the peak of peggy's career or whatever. And no, no matter how well peggy remade the beat, its still chef's work, you don't just own the thing cause you remade it by yourself, that is like you remade a whole Micheal Jackson's song, then claim that is your song, Peggy didn't "sample" the song, he straight up remade it. The right thing to do in this situation is still to credit chef, or just get that song off the album. Yes, there are wrongs on both sides here, but Peggy is considerably worse. As everything is going on now I just see him as a petty *sshole lol, make damm good beats though
@@mollyfletchr wow you guys have elite taste, every album on there i love, besides the mt fuji one ill have to check it out. big respect for the christine and the queens pick also!
You guys should do some injury reserve! I’d recommend starting with floss, one of my fav albums! They have a fantastic discography and their final album will hit harder if you’re familiar with their music.
"that was really laidback. when you compared deathgrips to jpegmafia, I really expected it to be much different to what that was" me: *laughs in real nega*
I’d recommend No_One Ever Really Dies by N.E.R.D. It’s an album that came out in December of 2017 and still sounds WAY ahead of its time . Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of The Neptunes are members of N.E.R.D. , so you know the production is fantastic , the lyrics deliver as well
Hey, just stumbled across you two and your reaction videos and through a bit of snooping (watching one of Molly’s vlogs), realized that y’all probably live extremely close to me! Awesome to see a couple that’s into basically all the same music I am. Can’t wait to see more videos, was not expecting to go down the Peggy rabbit hole this early on in the journey lol. Keep it up!
He mentioned in an interview somewhere that the album is called veteran because he considered himself a veteran of rap/hip hop at that point, not because he was a military veteran. Love your vids and the different perspectives you both have on music! Edit: If you haven't, you guys should check out Shinra Knives' "you'll never see heaven" he has a similar glitchy vibe to peggy's production
