- Anvil Foundry 10.5 gallon system review after 1 year & 23 Home Brews
Over 15 months of using the Anvil Foundry 10.5 gallon system with recirculation pump kit and 23 brews on the system. (2 at 120v and 21 at 240v).
This is a great system that is very easy and straight forward to use for beginners to advanced home brewers. I was so pleased with my system that I ordered a second Anvil Foundry 10.5 system with another recirculation pump so I can start running lots of experiments.

Great video on the Anvil Foundry very helpful 👍
Thanks for the support.

Thank you very much for your instructive video regarding the Anvil Foundry! I have now everything I need to make a wise purchase!
Thank you for the kind words. I have a lot of smaller (less popular videos) where the main reason I did them was to help others like myself to either make an informed choice or put something together with less headaches. Good Luck!
I ordered mine on .Monday & was notified it shipped today
I really enjoyed learning about the Anvil Foundry. Thanks
I now have three since that video. I've purchased 2 and Anvil Brewing sent me a more recent version. I prefer to use them all the time as they are very easy and straight forward.
Ordered my Anvil Foundry 10.5 today. Really wanted the Grainfather G30 but watching reviews & really competitive pricing made my decision an easy one. I currently use propane burner & no wifi or Bluetooth so those features don't carry much weight with me
Don't get me wrong, the current company that owns Grainfather makes a very nice system. For me, switching from 2 Grainfather Connects (older units) to Anvil Foundry Systems was the best decision I ever made. I think you will be really happy, and never having to mess with WiFi or Bluetooth issue driving you nuts like it did me from time to time is a blessing. I was told by a bigger UA-cam Homebrewer that the new Grainfather G30 was low density, but according to MoreBeer info, it looked like they were still on the higher density which drove me nuts on their older units, as I brew with a lot of wheat, rye, and oatmeal that are prone to scorching when too much heat is applied to small area. Plus with the double wall, you will never need a neoprene jacket like I had for mine back when I brewed with them. The 120/240 is a nice bonus if you ever need to switch or take your system to another location for brewing.
Overall, I think you will love the system and the money you saved to avoid any frustrations. I will note, before I sold mine, a new company had supposedly bought Grainfather and I could see they were making a lot of improvements with the software. Including the ability to recover from a power outage or loss of connection which had plagued the original systems. I sold both of mine for $800 total as I was that frustrated.
I just bought an Anvil Foundry and I can't wait to brew this weekend
Awesome and I must ask, what is your first brew going to be?
@@BitterRealityBrewing I'm going all out. This will be my 1st all grain in 15 years, I usually do extract because of time. My wife is the one who suggested I buy the Anvil, so she choose a Cranberry Ale. I like it, because it's a Pale Ale/fake Sour. After that will be one of my favorites, a Black IPA. I even bought the Conical Fermenter, so your recent Vid was very helpful too. thnx.
@@kenstech7626 Well huge credit to your wife ...I think they call her type a "Keeper"! I'm a huge cranberry fan...I actually eat and drink a fair amount of cranberries and juice which is good as I seem to get kidney infections more than most people (its a genetic inheritance thing) but I love anything with cranberry in it. Thanks for the support and enjoy your new Anvil Foundry as it is an easy and effective system.
I have had my Anvil Foundry for about a year as well. During my last brew, my pump quit working. As frustrating as it was, I'm so glad this is an external pump. Obviously a few more bucks, but I don't have to tear into the system to fix it. Thank you for your video, it was very informative and I look forward to watching more.
Jeremy Weber, Waterville, WA
Thank you and if it is just under a year I'd ask Anvil to replace it. If not you are right about not being built in can be a big bonus.
What pump would you suggest. A different one?
Super 1 year review on the Anvil Foundry system. It's great that you've given both the good and the bad points. Hopefully, they take you up on the suggested improvements.
Thanks for the support. I actually have their ear and have shared some of the info and a few bits more that I recently discovered. I know nothing is perfect and all can hope is that they listen to us, the consumers and Anvil/Blichmann seem to more than most companies which is one more reason I like the company and their products.
Waiting for my Anvil Foundry to show up. Can't wait to get started with all-grain brewing. Thanks for the tips, especially the small batch adapter for all brews. I was thinking of getting this adapter, but now I'll pull the trigger.
Congratulations and I ordered my 2nd one a few days after I got my 2nd Anvil and it arrived in like 2 days which was crazy fast.
Can't wait to put my Anvil Foundry to work!
Thanks for the support. Easy to use and reliable.
I love the Anvil Foundry almost as much as reading about home brewing and learning new info.
Feel your passion as home brewing with great equipment is always a good thing.
Love my Anvil Foundry! I've incorporated your suggestions and am grateful. Thanks for your videos!
Great and Thank you for the support. 😀
I have just as started research on all in one systems. I have watched hours of UA-cam videos and I have to say I’ve spent more time on your channel than any other site. Thanks for explaining the process of using the Anvil Foundry products especially the 10.5 unit. I’m ordering one soon and look forward to watching more of you in the future.
Thank you for the kind words. I must say I did a ton of research and purchased both of my Anvil Foundry systems personally and love brewing with them. I have some videos coming out about brewing in my new location, and I decided my first brew had to be on my Anvil Foundry (the original, aka the first one I bought). The quality for the price you pay is hard to beat. I hope you enjoy your new system, and even if you've brewed many times before with other setups, take your time the first few times to ensure you don't miss any steps. (I screw up from time to time, usually because I'm doing too much and fail to pay attention to what I'm doing, but overall they are very forgiving systems as long as you follow the basics.)
Just received my Anvil Foundry last week. Brewed batch one this past weekend. Very easy to use. Thanks for the informative videos!
Awesome and Thanks for the support! Congrats! What did you brew as your first batch? (Sorry I swear I asked you this but UA-cam is showing I never replied although I could just be losing my mind. :-))
@@BitterRealityBrewing Hi - I brewed a pale ale (Sierra Nevada clone). I wanted to start with something straight forward to get used to the Foundry and use that as a reference.
Anvil foundry. Just bought one on your recommendation. Thanks much!
Awesome and let me know what your first brew will be! Always like to know what the first brew is.
Thanks for the Anvil Foundry review. I've had mine for about a year now and agree with everything you've said.
Thanks for the support. I am finding that the new feet cause the basket to lean a little which makes the sparge run to one side but that is an easy fix.
I have an Anvil Foundry on the way and have found your videos very helpful - thank you!
Thanks for the support and hopefully yours shows up early like it usually does.
Good long term review of the Anvil Foundry , I just took delivery of mine and look forward to brewing with it. You do a nice job with your videos and have interesting content. Thanks for producing these and looking forward to more!
Thank you for your support. Hopefully I can get better at the videos and editing them as my brewing is much better than my videography. 😎
I just got the anvil foundry but have yet to brew on it. I'm hoping within the next few weeks I'll have time. Can't wait.
Awesome! Let me know what you decide on for your first batch as I seem to notice people either go big or go easy but very little in between.
Thanks for sharing you're thoughts views and opinions re: the 7.5 gal Anvil Foundry.. I like the fact the design team at Anvil pays attention to the end users in an effort to keep pushing the envelope to make they're product better.. those are the folks that are truly going to take care of you for many years to come..
Thanks for the support and I fully agree as I was just talking about how they listen to the end users.
Appreciate this video you produced, after seeing it and you talking about it i decided to purchase the anvil over the clawhammer, cant wait to brew my 1st batch sunday!
I like both but honestly you can use the saved money for all the other stuff you will need as the Anvil is a great system. So I must ask, what is your first batch?
I really enjoyed your presentation of the Anvil Foundry System. I also live in Florida and have been watching the ANVIL system for quite a while. I appreciate the way you have given the pros and cons of the system and your experiences with it. The manner in which you addressed chilling of the wort was helpful as well. I hope to get one soon but my wife wants me to get rid of some of my accumulated homebrewing equipment of which I have made and is taking too much space.
Thanks for the support. I can so relate to the wife thing but maybe you can spin my story to your own to help you get what you need for your home brewing needs. I started brewing over 6.5 years ago and about a year later I ended up with some serious heart issues and didn't realize I had stress issues impacting my heart issues but home brewing is the most stress releveling and enjoyable hobbies I've ever had and look forward to many, many more years. Keep in mind my wife hates the smell of hops and beer to the extreme but she knows how rewarding home brewing it to me and how it helps with my stress aka heart issues (I've had 3 surgeries and live on a dangerous medication to help regulate it) so I think she allows me to have me home brewing so I will be around many more years to support her and be there for her in what she does in life. So a bit long winded but maybe you can spin that to your advantage. 😎
Great Video, very informative and appreciate the highs and lows. I also just purchased an Anvil Foundry and excited to use it and watch your new videos. Thanks
Thanks for the support. If you have the feet, consider a wedge during sparging to level the top filter to allow your sparging to a be a bit more even. A recent discovery of mine as I just used the feet for the first time.
Thank you!! I do have the 2 feet (new design), I’ll try the wedge on next brew day. Cheers
Another great video. Thanks for the con's and pro's of getting one. I'm going to have to get a Anvil Foundry.
Thanks for the support. The pros as you can see, way out weight the cons.
Very cool! I just hit a year with my Anvil 10.5 as well, I'm about 14 brews in, some of my best brews yet - I couldn't be happier with it; it does everything I need. I hope to upgrade to 220V soon, but for now 120V is working fine for me.
Awesome and bumping up to 240v will be a big time saver for your brew days.
Came close to buying an Anvil Foundry, but the current wait times for delivery stopped me. And I was able to pick up some equipment from someone getting out of brewing. Love your channel, watch it all the time.
Good to hear and hope you scored a really sweet deal as I've seen some people getting crazy deals. I will say they have been delivering a lot faster than what they promise which is always good.
Thanks for the review, I've been thinking about getting an Anvil Foundry 6.5 gallon for a little time now.
Thank you for the support and if you are looking to do 2 to 3 gallon batches regularly, it would be perfect.
I have the Anvil Foundry 6.5 gallon system for brewing 2.25 gallon batches. I've had this for 2 years now and have brewed 32 batches so far and I love this system also. Is it perfect, no but the bang you get for your buck, this is a great quality made system. Thanks for the videos.
WOW! 32 Batches is very impressive! Not sure if you have seen some of my recent videos but I've been doing lots of 6 gallon split batches, so essentially 3 gallon batches. 😀
The Anvil Foundry looks like a solid system. Currently doing small batches on the stove, but will seriously consider this system for an upgrade at some point. Thanks for the informative review.
I use to do the stove and outside burner setup for many, many years but I will say if you have enough locals to share out part of your brew, doing 5 gallon batches in the Anvil Foundry can be very rewarding (I share lots of beers with friends, work friends, and local restaurant/bar employees).
Anvil Foundry
I brought one because of you the new one with feet not ring made 2 batches all ready keep up the good work learning alot from you
Awesome, and thank you for your support. I'm considering on my next brew to put a wedge under the main system to help level the top sparge area a bit more. Thank you again.
Great video n very informative on the Anvil Foundry ... Something I'm looking to be getting in the future.
If you aren't looking to buy an all in one system soon, keep your eyes open as Anvil sounds like they are working on a 2.0 down the road and I know Brewzilla is working on a 4.0 so a lot of changes coming and most sound like they might hit this year.
I have looked into the Anvil Foundry a few times for an EBIAB system, thanks for the review
I haven't tried a BIAB on the Anvil yet but a lot of brewers seem to like the BIAB on the Anvil system in the grain basket and without.
I look forward to getting an Anvil Foundry. Thanks for your videos.
Thanks for the support and I promise it is a great system for the money.
About a year ago I bought an Anvil Foundry 10.5 gallon system after watching your review and I couldn't be happier. I wish they sold a base system without things like the immersion chiller and grain basket. I personally swapped out the basket for a brewbag and the chiller for a JaDeD. Both of those work so much better than the stuff included with the Foundry. I'm considering swapping out the pump for something easier to disassemble and hopefully with something like a ball lock flow control so I don't have to mess around with pinching hoses.
Awesome and I fully agree with being able to buy a unit with a list of optional items instead of already included items. Hopefully with my new upcoming Belgian IPA video, you might want to try the grain basket again as a viewer gave me a suggestion and I tested it out which I was impressed with the impact. The video should be out next Friday. Thanks again and have you found an easy way to keep the recirculation piece at the top from slipping off and falling? I finally got some clamps but would prefer something a bit cleaner like a syphon hose clamp.
I’m ordering an Anvil Foundry for Christmas. Great review thank you
Awesome and when you get it, let me know what your first brew will be as I'm always curious what people choose as their 1st brew. Most either go easy or really hard but rarely choose any recipe that is in the middle.
Thanks for the video, for the Anvil Foundry
Thanks for the support.
Thanks for the update on Anvil Foundry !!!
Thanks for the support.
Watched your Anvil Foundry video. I'd love your book!
Thanks and you should see what the keywords are for todays video release at 10 AM EST Standard as it will be pure entertainment.
Looking at getting an Anvil Foundry. Thank you so much for the great video!!
Thanks for the support and I can tell you they usually always arrive faster than promised. Great system for the price.
Glad I found your channel, it really helps and I’m glad I got the anvil foundry!
Thank you for the support and if you ever have any questions just let me know. I have a video coming out soon (Belgian IPA) that will also give you some insight on a small flaw (inherent in many systems) that can be easily fixed during any brew to bump your mash efficiencies up a bit. Super Simple fix.
I love my Anvil Foundry and enjoyed you review!!!
Thanks for the support.
Anvil Foundry - finally got mine, but now I am waiting on a support ticket... can't wait to use it!
Thanks for the support and sorry your issues. Let me know when you have time what is going on out of curiosity.
Thanks for the informative review on the Anvil Foundry!
Thanks for the support.
Great insight to the system. I have the first Anvil Foundry run, and I love it. !t has the control panel on the bottom. It was a great decision to move it towards the top.
A good shelf or solid stand should help with the whole bending over which I could see being an issue if you are getting old like some of us.
Great review.... I've had my Anvil Foundry 10.5 for about a year as well and love it. I had the malt pipe ring model but like you mentioned some folks reported the feet breaking off. Customer Service with Anvil is fantastic..... They mentioned that was an issue with the welds and sent me a new malt pipe with the 2 hooks.
Awesome to hear they took care of you. I double checked the welds are the same in quantity but they just looked like more time was spent on each spot weld. If you've ever done spot welding you will know what I mean as it is just something very visual plus when they spend a bit more time on the spot weld it expands a little more due to the extreme heat applied which helps get a better grip between the two metals.
After this review, I may end up purchasing an Anvil Foundry!
They've made some recent improvements with a grain basket that is a lot easier to clean very recently. The only other unit like this that I would consider comparing would be the new Brewzilla 4.0 which should be out soon as it has some pros and cons compared to the Anvil Foundry.
@@BitterRealityBrewing Thanks for the heads up.
Excellent video on anvil foundry. going to pick one up.
Thank you and in my opinion it is the best bang for the buck currently on the market. Grainfather came out with the G40 which was nice but for some really crazy reason they stuck with the old high density burner design which still blows my mind.
I’m currently in the market for a 10 gallon all in one
Your review on the Anvil Foundry has helped in the decision making 👍🏼
Keep the videos coming
Excellent and let me know what you get and how you like what you decide on as I'm always curious.
Super informative. About to make the plunge into All Grain for my 30th birthday and looking like the Anvil Foundry is going to be the go to!
Thank you for the kind words and Happy Birthday! Wish I was still 30...LOL Order your Anvil direct as they seem to be filling orders faster than promised which is always awesome!
I received my Anvil Foundry 10.5 gallon in December 2020. Made some great beers!
Thanks for the support. Please feel free to share what you have made so far as I am always curious.
I found you a few months after I got my Anvil Foundry. I have enjoyed making and drinking Northern England Brown Ales. Spent awhile trying to find a recipe for my wife( she likes a Summer Blonde Ale). Still discovering beers I like. Have a fall brewing schedule including a Chocolate Hazelnut Porter, pumpkin Ale, Oktoberfest, researching Christmas beers and ales. Any recommendations on Christmas beers or ales? Thanks!
@@eriknooleen7627 Thank you and congrats! Everyone with their Oktoberfest brews...are killing me as it is one brew I've never made that I need to. Love my Pumpkin Ale and already realizing I need to brew that soon which seems like I just did it not that long ago. I love Hazelnuts but haven't found much with hazelnuts in it that I like except Frangelico which is amazing. Also I haven't brewed a Xmas ale either but considering that one maybe with some spruce tips. Keep the wife happy, trust me on that one and your home brewing will go far!
I plan on using the Chocolate Hazelnut Porter by Jamil Zainasheff at More Beer. A friend of mine went to Heratic brewing and was very impressed with it! Will keep watching for new ideas!
@@eriknooleen7627 If you do brew it let me know how it turns out and how the hazelnut tastes in comparison to real Hazelnuts and/or Frangelico (Nutella isn't bad either) but hazelnut coffee to me is disgusting. So if it is more like the real or the sweeter liquor type I might actually consider it down the road.
Great review! Love my Anvil Foundry!

Great review. I have a Klarstein Mundschenk 30 L / 8 Gallon system which is pretty much the same as the Anvil Foundry/Brew Monk/Mash -N- Boil etc. Still getting use to it and all-grain-brewing in general. You videos have given me some great ideas and things to try as well as purchase. Keep up the great work.
Thank you and I'm happy I'm helping and hopefully inspiring you to try new things as that is always an enjoyable part of brewing when it works out to either a cool brew, or just helping things go smoother.

I love the The way the anvil foundry works it’s a Great brewing system
Thanks for the support and I agree.
Great job really good info!! I have a 6.5 Anvil Foundry and love it. Also have the anvil foundry 4 gal bucket fermenter. Big fan keep up the great work!
Thank you for your support. I have an Anvil fermenter video coming up soon too. How do you like your bucket fermenter? I was told they clean up crazy easy compared to most fermenters that aren't SS.
The Anvil Foundry looks good.
Thanks for the support.
Anvil Foundry … Mike, I never use the marked volumes… I use an oak dowel that I’ve calibrated in gallons. Add a gallon of water, cut a mark, add another, cut another mark, rinse, repeat.
I swore I already replied but YT is saying I didn't...feel like I'm losing my mind. But I use to do the stick thing for measuring when I did small batches and had a different wooden dowel for each pot for measuring.
@@BitterRealityBrewing Mike I use the same stick for three different kettles. One on each end, then turn 180 deg and mark backside for other kettle.
@@shaggaroo I did have one like that but just different color sharpie used red and black.
Looking for a brewer and found your video soo. To have a foundry myself. Thanks
Sorry for the late response (not sure how I missed it earlier) but if you need any assistance just shout. I'm working to move to a new location, so things are a bit crazier than normal but by mid-January I should be back on top of everything with quick responses too.
Was debating between the Anvil Foundry vs Clawhammer Supply but liked how the Clawhammer System was easily interchangeable vs the Anvil Foundry. I’d suggest trying the Clawhammer Supply BIAB system it’s definitely worth the up front cost!
I prefer the cost and simplicity of the Anvil foundry, but I do have a local home brewer that is considering brewing with me with his Clawhammer system so that we can get a closer look and see it in action.
@@BitterRealityBrewingI’d love to see that happen. 😊
Oh and great video with good positives and fair negatives of the system.
Thanks for the support as it was hard to be negative as it really was just suggestions for improvement.
The Anvil Foundry is on my Christmas List
Just order early and I'd probably order direct for the remainder of this year as I'd expect it will be a lot of other people's Xmas list too.
Very informative - Anvil Foundry.
Thank you and thanks for the support.
I love my Anvil Foundry 10.5 I have 11 extract and 6 or 7 all grain brews under my belt. I like watching you videos as well as others to keep learning.
So what was your first all grain? Always wonder what people pick for the first all grain brew. As long as we all keep learning we will all get better and continue growing in our knowledge as home brewers. Have a great year brewing.
My "local" brew store is 75 minutes away. I bought the Anvil Foundry there and learned how to measure out and crush grains for Kama Citra as first brew with 2nd a Hefeweizen. Owner was so friendly and helpful. Just made my 1st recipe from scratch with help of Brewsmith, a Stout. I'm hooked!!!
@@danmcmaster7464 75 minutes sucks but it is awesome that the owner is so nice and helpful. My 1st brew was a Pale ale and my 2nd was a Hefee. Congrats on making your first brew from scratch. BeerSmith has a ton of features and extras you might not need or even fully understand in the beginning but the program is rather intuitive and easy to use to some degree. If you don't already when building your own recipes, go search to find what everyone agrees on for a recipe and then modify it for your tastes. Or if you see a brew you really like that is offered as Kit, simply download the PDF and build your recipe and then bring it with you the next time you go to the kind of LHBS to get your supplies. I can brew almost any kit for less than it would cost me to buy it, unless it is on a good sale then sometimes the deal is either a break even or slightly better offer based on the sale.
Nice informative video. I have been extract brewing for last 3 years and looking to move to full grain. Have looked at Grainfather but not convinced yet. Now “Anvil Foundry” is on the list. Do need to put the all in one system in the basement and have to worry about venting it first. Has anyone installed the Anvils in the basement. Would love to see a setup - how high you place it, wiring/piping, cleaning, venting, pics of how you organize stuff around it, etc.
Thank you. You should consider joining the Facebook groups on FB. Anvil has two, one managed and one not so much. Plus Brewzilla has one and I'd imagine GrainFather does too. I used to own 2 GrainFathers moved to Anvil Foundries due to too many issues but GrainFather has come a very long way since the sale of the company with a lot of great changes. Supposedly they finally moved to low density burners in the latest models (I was told but haven't seen the documentation), this is the #1 feature for me. I used to get high efficiencies with out much effort and when I moved to the Anvil Foundries, I had to work a little hard for it but it was all about getting the processes down and understanding them. When I had the GrainFathers, I was still learning a ton at that time. Learning it one of the great benefits of home brewing. All systems from Anvil Foundry, BrewZilla, GrainFather, and others have lots of pros and cons. I just simply feel the Anvil Foundry has a lot less cons and a great deal more pros for the way I brew.
Thank you for this review of the Anvil Foundry. I am looking forward to your video on the "deadspace" issue. I think I may know the trick you are referring to, but I am looking forward to it.
The video went well and hopefully it will be posted next Friday.
This might be my favorite, down-to-earth, homebrew channel. I currently run the claw hammer system, but I’m considering the switch to anvil foundry because of the support for dual voltage.
Thank you for the very kind words as I do still feel my videos could be a bit cleaner I have no intention of ever trying to be glitzy as I feel I am just the average home brewer like anyone else with a passion for home brewing. I like the Claw hammer system and have a habit of forgetting it also has a low density heating element which is awesome. I don't remember what the largest batch you can brew on the Claw hammer is but I am very happy doing 5 gallon batches on the Anvil and I like the ease of cleaning. I do believe if you do high abv 5 gallons batches the claw hammer might be a better choice do to the grain capacity.
What is funny is that when I was looking for a system to replace me GF systems I did look at the Claw Hammer but between the price, the 120 or 240 only (or the costs to have both parts just for swapping it) where also a bit high, plus they were still working out a few minor bugs that supposedly have been handled. I ended up on the Anvil for the features I mentioned and price. Lately with the 90+ F weather I do wish I had a WiFi temp probe but might by a cheap one of Amazon as standing in 90+F temps waiting to get to temp sucks. I did order an outdoor umbrella so hopefully between that and like last weekend where I drank almost a gallon of water and tea during a long brew day, I should be good. (Last weekend I did two Belgian Rye IPAs side-by-side which was fun but used timers to help me keep both systems straight in my head in regards to additions and other timings.)
@@BitterRealityBrewing what part of Florida? I’m in south Florida and will begin my home brew journey within the next month or so.
Interesting review of the Anvil Foundry!
Thank you for your support.
Anvil foundry. I love mine. Your small batch adapter trick helps me raise my proficiency. I never have an issues with the ring though. Lol.
Thanks for the support! Happy to help and I have another new trick coming that will bump your BHE up a few more points.
Great video, definitely looking to upgrade to the anvil foundry soon.
Thanks for the support. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns as I did a lot of research and happy with my purchases.
I just got my new Anvil Foundry and finished my first beer in it, a rye IPA as a nod to you tossing a little rye into everything! Also I'm still on 110v but hoping to get 220 set-up soon. Keep up the good work.
Awesome to hear and I do love my rye so I can truly appreciate the nod. I've been wanting to brew a Dunkel I did a while back with chocolate and rye as it was amazing but everything with rye in my book is either amazing or really good.
Good review. After using the Anvil Foundry for a couple years, I agree with your pros and cons. It's a great product. Although I have the old system which requires me to just about lay on the ground to see the screen. 😑
I wish there was an easy was to fix the screen location but sadly not. If you brew somewhere with a solid concrete floor, you could consider either a slightly elevated shelf or what I'm considering for my future brewing location (I'm having a house built) which are hydraulic motor cycle repair lifts. They run about $150 to $200 and I'm thinking they would be perfect for elevating, lowering (during basket removal), and even moving the Anvils while full if ever needed. I'm still researching and even trying to come up with a low cost mobile hoist system for the grain baskets too. Basically I'm trying to plan out my future brewery setup and will need everything to be as versatile as possible.
I agree too.. switchable 240, low density element and double walled construction are killer features that makes it the best bet in the all in one brewing systems. The biggest problem with the foundry is that it’s never in stock.
@@BitterRealityBrewing yep, I cringe when I see people say, “I can’t wait 2 months for an Foundry.. I’m going to get a Brewzilla.” Btw, if you’re going to run 2 foundry’s side by side will it be on 120? Or do you have a second 240 circuit.
I swear YT lost my replies but the 240 uses up to 13 amps and my 240 is 30 amps so I simply purchased a heavy power splitter and ...tada...2 - 240v plugs which worked great on my last side-by-side brews as I didn't blow any breakers or start any fires.
I might need to pickup and anvil foundry.
Very nice system and thank you for the support.
Nice review on the Anvil Foundry!
Thanks for the support.
Appreciate the pluses and minuses you mentioned respecting the Anvil Foundry.
Thank you and although I really like/love my Anvil Foundry, there is always room for improvement.
I like the idea of the silicone tubing to retain the grain ring. What internal diameter tubing do you use ? Do you just put a few short pieces around the ring evenly spaced ?
Sadly I don't remember but I used less than 1 inch worth and simply cut it into 4 tiny pieces and sprayed the ring with Star San to act like a lubricant and slid them on. They were from a fish aquarium air hose. (The cheap thin stuff like this amzn.to/3stxjym )
@@BitterRealityBrewing Thank you it turned out that is a little small, for future questions 1/4" id, 3/8"od silicone tubing worked really well, like this www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07W5TGX8B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I had some spare, think the silicone works better as it has a little more friction.
Anvil Foundry Good review Mike.
Thanks for the support, Thank you.
I recently purchased an Anvil Foundry and ran the first brew through it this weekend. My only issue was a stuck mash, I willmuse more rice hulls next time.
Happy to hear you got an Anvil but sorry to hear about your stuck mash. A few tips to help you with your future mashes - 1.Try not to crush below 0.0375 unless you are crushing rye or other smaller grain, 2 - Let your mash rest for about 10 minutes before kicking in the recirculation, 3 - As you said Rice Hulls! (A common joke is that Rice Hulls are cheap insurance), 4 - If it happens again try the grain conditioning as it really helps me in regards to clean wort. The key is that it softens the hulls before your crush and that way they don't break away as much creating more large fiber. 4. Always keep your recirculation flow to a very slow flow. Hopefully your next batch goes a lot smoother.
love my Anvil Foundry.
Can fully relate and am even more excited to do comparisons with 2 Anvils.
Anvil foundry. We got the small one to learn on. 1st all grain last week. Many more to come
Let me know what you brewed and how it turns out?
You can add a BIAB Mesh Bag inside the grain pipe too keep the Rye and Wheat grains from scorching the bottom NO?
Yes but if I get a great Grain Bed going early on that shouldn't be a problem. Even with a BIAB, based on the crush, it can still occur of course. In my personal opinion there are lots of factors but the more dispersed the heating elements are (this could be improved on almost all systems), the low density (huge step in the right direction), and home brewers not cranking the heat up cycles to 100%, plus of course watching our grain crush are all contributing factors. I like BIAB but am not a fan when doing 5 gallon batches or more due to the extra cleaning of the bag, and I believe it could impact the mash efficiencies a bit more than without it.
The anvil foundry is the best bang for the buck.
Very True!
Nice video on Anvil Foundry
Thanks for the support!
I love my Anvil Foundry! and need the book
Thank you for the support and I feel you as it is a great book.
I love my Anvil Foundy.
Thanks for the support!
Another great summary of pros and cons of Anvil Foundry system. A few comments: if you have 84F incoming water, no heat exchanger will work well as you hit a pinch point at 84F. Yes, I am a an engineer and understand heat transfer...haha. Why not use the Anvil SS cooler as a pre chiller in an ice water bucket before going to your immersion chiller? That’s what I do in the summer here in Phoenix AZ and works great with my GF counter flow chiller. I did a batch this weekend (in HOT Arizona) and cooled my wort quickly to 72F as it filled my fermenter. By design a counterfflow chiller is better and more efficient than an immersion chiller. Thanks again but I am still a Grainfather fan over the Anvil.
And I guess I am out of the running for the book since I revealed I am a GF supporter, sorry about that but need to offer other perspectives here. I would suggest not only talking exclusively about Anvil and your immersion chiller but compare and contrast all the different All in One systems. I guess promoting your products pays the bills so I understand
@@BitterRealityBrewing and a copper coil works best vs SS and better conduction of the cooling. :). I made my own and works great for brewing in summer.
@@danpierce37 I made a 1 gallon copper chiller and I still use it from time to time but it just isn't nearly as fancy as my Scylla.
@@BitterRealityBrewing and I regulate the flow of both the cooling water and hot wort to hit the optimum outlet wort temp using my counter flow chiller. Without regulation of flow using valves on both the water and wort, may be difficult to dial in. Never used an immersion chiller so maybe your water flow rate is too high not allowing your hot FL tap water to chill
@@danpierce37 I do envy everyone's cooler ground water especially those living in the north and mountains where I hear about some crazy cold ground water as our is usually 84 F +/- based on time of the year. The counter flow worked if I ran ice water through it but that took time and lots of ice but the immersion chiller still only works to get the temps down to about 90 F quick and usually in about 5 minutes (85 F if I wait a long time) but then I switch it over to a sump pump in an ice bath and without too much ice or frozen packs I can easily get to 68 F in another 5 or so minutes.
How do you go from 110 to 220 by flipping a switch when 220 uses a 3 prong plug like a dryer or oven? The wiring is different in a 220 too.
I'm not an electrician, but I do understand what you are saying. There is a switch on the bottom that changes it from 110 to 220 or back again, and as for the plug, you can cut it and install a 220 - 3 prong if you want, but most of us simply use the original plug with an adapter to take it from the standard 110 plugs to the 220 plugs available in our homes. I've been using it this way for a few years now without issue or, as some people think, melt issues. My 110 Grainfather used to melt the 110 plugs going into the controller box, but I've never seen that issue with the Anvil Foundry on 110 or 220.
@Bitter Reality Brewing thanks for the quick reply. I've been looking at this unit and curious how that worked. I didn't know there was an adapter for 110 to 220...now I understand how it works. Thank you.
where can I find info about the book that is mentioned at the end of the video? thanks
If you are in the U.S. the price on that book at the moment is insanely cheap on Amazon even with shipping!

Best investment I ever made was the Anvil Foundry and I fully agree that I want my bells in whistles to simplify my process and just work!! Anvil does that for me except the Evil Ring - which I have the upgraded feet on the way to remedy my pain lol
Fully agree, and although I still like the ring it has given me more than enough headaches. I just wished they would have made a groove in newer units but I can deal with the feet now that I've tried them.
Many thanks for your review and perspective of the Anvil Foundry, which I find very useful.
By the way, does AiH really give you points for the purchase of this system? I did purchase one through them, and I did not receive any points with the understanding that there are no points on items with the Minimum Advertised Price (MAP).
Thanks for the support. I will need to check into that as they use to give you points on everything including MAP items as I bought my Grainfather from them and gained points as it was $1200 when I purchased it. Thanks for the heads up as I will need to look into this as this wasn't the way it use to be.
Great video, Anvil Foundry
Thanks for the support.
Now that's been another year, is your anvil foundry still up and running or has it broke?
Yep! Running strong, and I even bought a 2nd Anvil Foundry. I have had two E3 errors on my older one, but one was due to me brewing with 5 gallons of oat milk which is very gooey, and the other time was just a bit strange, but I was able to recover from both. (I bought the 2nd one just to allow for comparison brews.) The only other system I would compare to it would be the new Brewzilla 4.0, as both systems have a few pros and cons when compared to each other.
I use my Anvil Foundry with a tower still to produce my brews.
Very nice. Any great distilled beverages yet?
Currently working on an orange Dream Cycle
@@royhendershot Orange Dream Cycle or Sickle? (I actually had to look that word up as I don't remember if I've ever used that before as I don't live up north.)
Nice review on the Anvil Foundry. This type system looks like it would be a lot easier than using my 15 gallon Keggles. and mashing in a 10 gallon Gott Cooler.
Honestly for a great all in one system the current Anvil Foundry or the newer Brewzilla Gen 4 are both great systems with lots of pros and very few cons based on what you prefer.
Great video on Anvil Foundry !It’s interesting to see review after one year of used by a power user :)
Thank you for the support and actually I did 24 brews as I forgot one but I talked to a guy today that has 32 under his belt in about the same time which blows me away. I kind of wonder if he is retired as I'm not and if I was retired I'd easily knock out 32...😂😂😂
Do you still recommend the anvil foundry for BIAB? Is the 10.5 good for 5gallon batches? Thanks
Yes, but honestly I don't see the need as the metal basket is essentially a metal BIAB system. If you prefer to use a BIAB, get the one that Anvil sells as it is made by one of the best companies that only makes BIAB but it is sold exclusively through Anvil Brewing.
@BitterRealityBrewing thanks! Yea I guess I ment brew in a basket. Iam currently using BIAB cheap system and would like to upgrade to a system that most convenient and best quality for your money!
Nother great video keep it up Anvil Foundry system.
Thanks for the support.
Love my anvil foundry so far. Agree it may be the best value out there for the $. I stick the return pipe along the outside of the mash pipe when doing my 15 minute mash stirs to turn over some of that dead space water. Would love to see if that and the small batch ring have any impact on efficiency. Looking forward to all your side by sides!
Happy to hear and based on your info on improving efficiencies I will tell you I did a video using the small batch adapter showing it did help improve efficiencies but as for the dead space I think you are going to love my new video coming out Friday the 20th as it answers that question and shows a crazy simple fix that was recommended by another subscriber. I like your suggestion but when you see the video I think you'll love the simplicity of it.
