    Somebody get this man a proper boxcutter! Thanks for checking the timing and temps for 120v. I still have my propane setup, so I can heat the water quickly and efficiently before moving it over to this system. The fact that this would work now, and be an all in one with future upgrade plans to 220v is appealing.

Question - I typically do 2.5 gallon batches so the smaller version seems logical but..... I could see doing some 5 gallon batches in the future. Unit takes 11.6A/13.6A on 120/240VAC respectively. 12awg cord would have more than enough ampacity. You would need a 20A single pole or 20A double pole gcfi at 240VAC to make this an NEC code compliant device/setup.
    Let's not forget the GFCI. Cheaper on 120VAC with a GFCI plug, way more $$$ for GFCI 240V breaker sadly.
    Your adapter is perfectly suitable alternative from cutting the power cord. What makes your setup dangerous, your 240VAC line is overbreakered at 30A. If anything happened, it potentially be going snap crackle pop far longer than at 20A

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  5 років тому +1

    What I wish they would do for these systems that can I switch between 110/220 is to use a cannon/ or barrel lock cables for both standards, with three extra pins that act as 2 way jumper so system automatically knows wether 110/220 is supplied, eliminating a extra switch and end user modification, something about cutting a cable on a new product isn't comforting lol. Also these systems in general seem tall and narrow, any issues with keeping consistent stable mash temps throughout the malt pipe without stratification? Even in my current kettle being tall and narrow (though not as much as this) and I have issues with temp swings from bottom to stop.

    I have this system, and have used it a few times at this point. The only drawback I see so far is the pump. It has a plastic pump head so you can not use the pump when the water is boiling. I would like to be able to pump the boiling wort through the pump and hoses to sterilize them prior to using the pump to pump out the cooler wort once I'm done boiling. I suppose 160 degrees is still hot enough to kill the nasties after an hour or so of recirculating, so maybe that's not a big deal. I still would prefer a stainless steel pump head...

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  3 роки тому

      Nothing wrong with letting a little near boiling wort through the pump.The only reason. It's not recommended to recirculate boiling wort is cavitation. I do it all the time with no problem. 👍🍻

    I’ve always wanted a stronger boil with my 120v system. (despite people telling me a gentle boil is all you need) At first glance this looks like a possible cost effective 240v solution while still keeping the mash in the Grainfather. Allowing me to still use the Connect controller for delayed start, mashing, recirculating and Bluetooth/recipe capabilities . Or do you think I could build a 240v boil kettle and control panel for less? What do you think?

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers

      It does not. It has to be designed into the machine. Which I think is really smart on Anvil's part. I think it is great, you could brew at home on 240 then take it to your buddies house and brew on 120 in the garage. 👍🍻

    Being an owner of the Mash & Boil, did you see a drastic difference in temperature differential ? The M&B has a range of +/- 5 Degrees which can be quite a nuisance if one is very particular about precise mash temperatures. I see the DigiBoil as low as 159.00 and Brewers edge 259 and that's both without the pump. Do you know if there is that much difference between the 4 that I mentioned? I am on a very tight budget .

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  3 роки тому

      All of the other single brewing systems do not have the accurate PID control that the Anvil does. That is the main thing that sets them apart from the foundry. The foundry is the only one out of the bunch that has the ability to run on two different voltages as well. The anvil is not made in the same factory as the rest of the units. one other detail is that the anvil is double wall for better insulation none of the other units are double walled. Hope that helps! 👍🍻

      @@ShortCircuitedBrewers AIH have a sale going on now for the Brewers Edge for $199 so I picked one up last week. how do you feel this compares to a robobrew 3.0/3.1? i was originally looking into a robobrew after seeing one at a local brew day, but then i came across the foundry...... Still a rookie brewer only have 2 brews under my belt on stove top (partial mash). but really would like to transition over to one of these electrics for ease of brew day and try all grain. both seem to be price the same but this one seems to have a few more perks. could you offer your opinion of the two?

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  5 років тому +1

      The Robobrew has a somewhat programmable controller (step mashing, more advanced so you may not care about that) they both perform well. A couple of things I like about the anvil over the Robobrew. The controller is more accurate since tt uses a different type of control. Another thing is the pump is modular, son if you get a clog you can take it apart clean it out and keep going. I will say if you watch my next video on it I did a NEIPA with a fair amount of hops and had no issue with clogging. And lastly, you can use the anvil with 240v at 2800 watts which makes that thing a beast with a fast brew day. Unfortunately the anvil is on back order right now so you'd have to wait a little bit for it to come in. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching! 👍🍻

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers

      I think it is pretty close as far as actual construction. The controller IMO is quite a bit more advanced. If there is a difference in the actual metal thickness, it isn't much. The double wall kettle is a nice feature that gives it a bit more rigidity. Cheers Mark!! 👍🍻

      @johnrankin6044 5 років тому

      Short Circuited Brewers do you know if the “double wall insulation” means there is some kind of insulator between the walls or is it simply two layers of metal? I wonder how well it would hold mash temps if a user did not have the recirc kit.

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers

      @@johnrankin6044 I think there is insulation between I am not 100% sure. I think it would hold temps well. I will tell you after the 240v boil test it sat for about 4 hours and when I came back it was still about 180.. That seems pretty good to me.

Also the included 4 feet of silicone hose for the pump...Only 3 feet long! OOPS. So not enough to complete the job. Went out and bought them.. Today was brew day..Mash and recirculation went well. ALL went well until the Foundry 10.5 completely died when it hit 198 degrees..No clue why..I assume the fuse on the unit?? It is not power related from the source.
