    Your video is helpful because you show the insides of the machine CLOSE UP. Most videos don't get that close and you cannot see what they are threading. Thank you. Threading a serger is crazy but I am going to conquer it TODAY!!!!!!!!!!! If I can do a 12 needle embroidery machine, I should be able to thread a serger. BTW, I love to see guys sewing. It is a very creative craft and more guys should try it.

    Thank you! This was just what I needed. I was given a White 534 by a friend when my old Bernette gave up the ghost. I could NOT figure out how to thread that bottom looper. As a professional seamstress who has serged since sergers first came out, it was embarrassing not to know how to thread this! VERY helpful! Oh, and one tip for you; waxing the end of the thread made it easier to get into the hole and using a lighted magnifier helped older eyes to see the durned thing!

    Thank you, I have had this machine for years but have been hesitant or scared to learn how to serge. Mine had no manual with it, so between this episode and the first one you did, I feel more confident in using it.

      The manuals are on EBay, along with plenty of White sergers if you need parts. Also, third party sellers specializing in old manuals sell downloads if them. Google you machine name.

    I know this is a pretty old video, but its worth noting that in the instruction manual for the White Superlock 534, on page 8, says the following:
    Threading must be carried out in the following sequence:
    FIRST lower looper; SECOND upper looper; FINALLY needle threads. If it is necessary at any time to re-thread lower looper, ALWAYS remove thread from the needles to avoid tangling.
    Thought that was worth mentioning since he talked about how 90% of the problems were caused by improper threading or bad needles, and since he seemed to still be experiencing problems with the machine after, thought maybe it could have been the order he threaded it.
    Anyhow, thanks for the videos, they've been pretty helpful!

    I needed that. I bought a serger over a year ago and haven't touched it because just threading the dang thing was terrifying. It's a Singer, so it's very different, but at least it's not as bad as I was imagining. Thanks guys!

    I had trouble getting my tension until I discovered a trick to find a good starting point. After passing around each tensioner pull the thread out slowly while adjusting the tension tighter and looser. You need a snug tension with all about the same.

  • @petmomful2260
    @petmomful2260 7 років тому +6

    Do you know that when you want to change thread colors, you can tie on the new color at the top, and then just pull it thru? You do not have to rethread it each time. You put your tension on zero, and raise the pressure foot. You just cannot pull the knot thru the needle, and will have to rethread the needle. This speeds things up a lot. This is how I change thread colors on my embroidery machine. My serger manual explains this so it must not be harmful to the machine.

    I was told not to use the spring at the tension for the right needle unless using 3 threads only. My serger is skipping stitches and the man who cleaned and oiled it said he can't fit it. I know it has been aligned before. Any suggestions?

    I watched your video on threading the Brother 1034D just for comparison. Your presentation style has really developed a professional polish compared to this earlier video. Great job!
    I'm not sure if it's the difference between the White serger and the Brother 1034D, or the video presentation, but this White serger threading looks so complicated! It looks far too intimidating for a beginning user like me! Maybe White was trying to make it "compact", and that's why things look so very cramped? Or is this just for a sewer with more experience using a serger?

    my lower looper on my 534 doesn't look like that...? there's no hole on the left side to thread through to the main hole, I'd say it looks like a flattened U instead. At first I thought it'd cracked, but the left inner edge of that U is obviously machined. So...hm. Anyone know what's up with that?

    • @monicafarrington7798
      @monicafarrington7798 5 років тому +1

      You've got a later model of the 534. Thread the lower looper following all the symbols, but when you get to that part, thread up through the channel to the upper part of that looper.

    • @monicafarrington7798
      @monicafarrington7798 5 років тому

      Make sure you use serger needles labeled "HA x 1 SP." Then, the weight of them should be determined by the fabric you're going to serge. For example, a size 11 is for thin fabric, 14 is for thicker, heavier fabric. 16 is usually used for heavy denim.

    Just purchased a used White Superlock 534 serger. However, the lower looper itself is not original. It is part number 67027-1. It has NO HOLE near the channel. Just a sort of square hook thingy. I have NO IDEA what to do as far as threading. The thread broke so I had to rethread it. It ain't happenin' HELP ME!

      The models which don't have the hole near the channel have a little hook-like end through which to wrap the thread, and then continue on up the channel to the top section. It's a pain to do. I use both tweezers and a small crochet hook to guide the thread through these steps.
