    Tip: If you don't have a serger made of sturdy metal, make sure you place your serger on a rubber cutting matt so it cuts down on the noise of the vibration of the motor and also keeps the serger from breaking into a Watusi! 😊
    Great tutorial, of course! All of your videos shine with your expertise and ability to make us smile while getting through the hurdles sewing takes us on sometimes! You're the BEST!🏆👍🏽💖🌟

    This was amazing for a newbie like myself. Bought a brand new serger from a Markeplace website a few weeks ago and had yet to even take it out of the box. I did feel a bit overwhelmed when I first bought it, not really knowing a lot about serving as I am also pretty new to sewing, but after watching this video I am ready and excited to set it up. Thank you so much for making such a basic, yet extremely easy to understand video!!!

      There is a wee lilt on a few of her vowels that reminds me of a Newfoundland accent. Incredibly subtle though.
      I was thinking of buying a serger. I think I’ll just listen to her instead. 🔸

    Outstanding video. The content is all there and I learned what I needed but the production! You pulled this whole thing off without a single "ummmm" or "ooooops" or any of the other silly crap most content creators offer. The volume, the synch, script, lighting. Just... Outstanding.
    Thanks for being born. 😂

    Hi; Lori here. Thank you so much for your demonstration. I just got a new over locker serger. The book is not very illustrated and my machine did not have a piece of material but it was threaded and did have a tail. Worked till 2 of the threads broke down in the looper. I finally got it figured out. I wish the manuals had online sites like this one that can explain better. Thank you.

    This is great! I got a serger a few weeks ago and I've been hoovering up all the serger videos I can find. It's been driving me nuts that nobody's mentioned what to do with the thread tails from a serger (they all seem to just trim them off and leave them dangling like a bunch of monsters). Definitely gonna give this a try once I get one of those needles.

    Ever tried the spit on the back of the needle trick? Works like magic every time, just put a little moisture (spit or water lol) on the opposite end you are putting the thread through and then the thread will go through the needle hole much easier because the thread is attracted to the moisture on metal.

    • @smarmyclothes
      @smarmyclothes  4 роки тому +1

      Is it wrong that I can't wait to spit on my serger to try this out?

    Thanks for the video.
    Since I've started threading my needles while wearing a jeweler's loupe, I no longer need the threading tool. The loupe makes it look like I'm putting a rope through a porthole. Super easy and the loupe lets me see if I've cut a clean end to the thread. A magnifying glass doesn't work because you need two hands. I use McMaster-Carr PN 13403T that I attach to my glasses. I can quickly swing it out of the way yet keep it on for when I need it.

    Great video----Serger videos are so hard to come by for some reason....for me its been a journey trying to figure things out (especially getting ideas on what all the serger can be used for...so I need to ask you to pleazzzeee do some videos/playists on things you use it for. Love your videos---you Always make me laugh---and you always teach me something I don't know---for example---I gave up on my serger needle threader thingy---but thanks to you now I know how to use it :-) Big Big Ups for that! Looking forward to seeing more of your work girly! Thanks for all you do! E.

      Sergers are really ideal for stretch fabrics - the serged seam allows for way more stretch than a zig-zag stitch. T-shirts, bathing suits, lingerie, leggings, etc.

    Whoa whoa whoa. What was that little twist you did with the threads with the yarn needle that got them through the eye of the needle. Just kept on rolling through video like, ain't no biggie. I say yes, it is in fact a biggie. Please explain yourself and your witchcraftery

    • @smarmyclothes
      @smarmyclothes  5 років тому +1

      Well dang... I'm not sure I even know what part you're talking about. I guess I do tend to roll/twist the threads together so they are easier to get through the eye of the needle.

      My first guess would be that something went wrong during the threading stage. They can be very fussy.

      I am a bit of a collector when it comes to sewing machines, so I passed this one on to my sister-in-law. I highly recommend the Brother 1034D, especially if this is your first serger and have a limited budget. If you have more to spend I really love the Husqvarna sergers.

      Metal sergers and sewing machines are considered "vintage", so check eBay, Craigslist, second-hand stores, church rummage sales, vintage sewing groups on Facebook. The older, non-plastic machines are the BEST!! I hope you find one and if it does not have a manual, spend time to research where to purchase one. Spend a few bucks for instructions because threading a serger goes in a very precise order, and all machines are similar but NOT alike! Good luck🍀!😊

    Can it sew all fabric?

  • @peteh4122
    @peteh4122 Рік тому

    I hate my serger. I honestly dont feel like i can control it no matter what i try. I've watched a million videos and i get it in principle but i just dont seem to be able to control it to just sew straight. Using the seam guides are useless as you can't really line up the edge accurately as the machine is so fast even when you are going slow. I feel so much more control over using a sewing machine but the serger is just crazy and i want to be good at it 😢

    My problem is not knowung what settings to use. Its eaither too tight ot too loose! ugh!! Great tutorial though!!

    • @smarmyclothes
      @smarmyclothes  7 років тому +1

      Hi Erica- It sounds like an issue with the differential feed. There should be a dial on the lower left side of the machine, numbered something like 0.7 through 2.0. It can take some practice to know what setting will be right for a particular fabric. But in general, if the fabric is bunching a little, lower the diff feed. And if it's getting stretched out, increase the diff feed. Hope that helps!
