  • This educational video is intended to call attention to the problem of facilitator cuing in a technique called "Facilitated Communication." It investigates the claim that Peter Rowe and Terri Delaney (facilitator) are typing out Peter's song lyrics using FC. But, questions arise as to authorship as the facilitator looks at the letter board, but her client does not.
To date, there is no reliably controlled evidence to prove that the use of FC produces independent communications. Rather, tests show that the facilitators, not their clients are typing out the words.

I hadn't thought about counting the taps, or the speed of the what the facilitator would be able to read. Love the letter board visual showing the placement of the letters.

Also, the rhythm of the tapping was very consistently spaced, almost a metronome. I tried typing this comment with one finger in the same rhythm, looking at the board the whole time, and I could not do it. Maybe with practice, one could develop such a skill, but, since it requires suppressing usual rhythms of communication by words to fit taps into an imposed, unchanging pulse, it would be daunting. And certainly not possible without looking at the keys. Tapping, or swinging my foot, in a solid, simple beat is a kind of stimming comforting behavior that I and many others use, but not as a way to produce interactive immediate word-based conversation.

It astounds me that ANYONE could watch the original video and not clearly see the supposed communication is bogus. This analysis puts the cherry on the cake PROVING it’s a sham.
