2 DAYS ALONE RAINSTORM OVERNIGHT - Tarp Shelter, Extreme Weather Camping, Fire Making Skills

  • I went to the northern mountains for a rainy overnight. I set up an emergency tarp shelter, collected firewood, lit a fire, and cooked dinner on a campfire.
It is not easy to light a fire in such conditions. It rained for days. Luckily it wasn’t cold, although I was wet to the skin.
It took me a little longer to keep the fire alive.
The mentality of the next fire is something we need to keep in mind. Whenever I light the first fire I think of the next fire. So I prepare something that will make it easier for me to start that fire.
Charcloth, dry grass, dry bark, pine sap...
*You’ve probably noticed that I keep looking around. This is because I can't hear well what's going on around me.
And this is a bear country...
I hope you enjoy it, and thanks for your support!

I live in bear country too. In the rain sound is literally dampened. Eyes open is a wise practice.

This was an excellent watch! Just plain seeing what needs to be done, rather than over-complicating the video with too much talk of theory.

Cool, I suggest you don't start your fire until you have collected enough wood for the night and built a proper fire pit. Use rocks or logs to build a semi-circular pit that will reflect heat back into the shelter. It literally takes 10 minutes. Then place large logs over the rocks so it will protect your fire from the rain and allow more wood to dry in the process. An open fire like that can be blown by the wind and torch you and your shelter. I have been making fires in the Rockies in the rain and snow for decades and know from experience. Lastly, it takes a lot of energy to cut firewood and with a proper fire pit you don't have to cut anything, you just keep feeding it as the wood dries. Great video, keep it up.

I am starting to learn to plan on using fire only here and there mostly depend on good shelter blanket etc. to get you through the nite use fire for cooking etc. a bigger tarp comes handy when you can use 1/3 to go underneath and 2/3 on top 😀

Great video! I found it while looking for ideas on small tarp shelters that don't require the fire to be exposed to rain. I had no idea that Croatian climate was that varied. I'm in coastal British Columbia, Canada and your video looked like it could have been up one of our rainy fjords!
You commented on looking around and wanting to be able to hear. I don't like hoods for that reason. They either get wet or block your hearing. We don't have grizzlies on Vancouver Island where I live, but on the mainland coast we do. But I want to hear everything anyway, even close to home. Birds, water, wind . . . 🙂

Fire kit? Why not just carry a lighter or two as well?

      Hi, thanks for watching!
I have a lighter with me in the kit. I don't use it unless I have to. Why?
Because I won’t always have a lighter with me, it might not work, so how do I light a fire then. This is how I practice more ways of lighting a fire, I learn and it is more interesting to me than the lighter itself. I especially like the old ways of lighting fires, flint and steel, bow drill fire, etc. Thank you for the comment. 👍🏻
