1. Pair Sugar with Fiber
Research shows that when you eat sugar and fiber together, sugar has a greatly decreased effect on your blood glucose and insulin response.
2. Exercise Before Eating Sugar
Exercise enhances your insulin sensitivity, which means your body can metabolize sugar a lot more effectively, without the blood sugar rollercoaster that causes a lot of negative effects.
3. Stay Hydrated
When you’re dehydrated, your brain produces a hormone called vasopressin that tells your kidneys to retain fluid.

Already doing IF on weekdays with OMAD once a week and 72 hour fast once or twice a year with no weight issues. I'm in muscle building mode but extending autophagy after +17 hour fast for the weekend.
Wish I had listened to you sooner about sugar. Never was a candy and pastry person just sugar.
I'm on my 6th day without consuming sugar. First time I've ever done this. Long time skin and scalp issues started healing and correcting within two days and completely gone now. Didn't expect this.
Bathroom trips interrupting sleep has ended....didn't expect this either. Serious quality of life improvement.
I'm used to drinking tea and coffee without sugar now.
I think my sugar eating days are over. It has been the sweet poison I have been consuming my whole life.
Threw it in the trash along with all the special soaps,shampoos, and topical OTC medications I don't need anymore.

22 pounds in less than 2 months. I'm one pound above my ideal weight but im not trying to lose anymore. I'm simply leading a fasting lifestyle and boy is my body (61) happy. I thought I was diabetic or something. Hangry all the time. I feel for once I have a sustainable and enjoyable eating lifestyle. Thank you for the education, it's been totally life changing.

@debiwillis9045 I was feeling terrible and didn't know it was. Then I saw Mindy and instantly knew. I started doing 12, to 14, to 16 fasts. I start every day with 20 oz of water, 1 tbs acv and lemon and coffee. I'm very active. And busy. I'm only eating fiber, protein and good carbs, focusing on blueberries and strawberries. I'm only using good oils. I'm doing a lot of air frying. I'm only using all natural soaps and shampoos. Threw out all the plastic. And of course, It's mountain bike season! Juices, fried foods, carbs, anything with words I can't pronounce and good IPAs had to go. I do have 1 Hazi Two Hearted a week. 😆
@@debiwillis9045 I forgot 2, very important things. My main goal was to lower my blood sugar. I felt diabetic, sick, weak, hangry. I was researching metformin and statin (sp?) because doctor was recommending them to me. I came across berberine and Mindy. I started berberine that day, as instructed. I literally felt my blood sugar going down. My doctor thought I was nuts, so I quit talking about it. Then, I felt my body moving from sugar burner to fat burner within 2 days. (I got rid of all sugar, no preserved ir processed foods, no fructose corn syrup.)
But Debi, the biggest reason I got back on here was to say that the first thing I did after getting those bad bloodwork results was pray to God for help and guidance. Lord, please help me, I can't do it without you. Give me the strength and health to fulfill your plan for me. I'm not equating God to AI, He's infinitely so much better than that. (Yes, I also do a daily devotional/meditation using The Bible App.)
Anyway, I can testify that you should start with an earnest prayer for help. And then be thankful for what He will immediately start doing that you might not see.

Down 20lbs since February. Got Fast Like A Girl and turned my sister on to it, too. I use your 5, 1, 1 protocol. Best part is the 36hr healing fasts once a week. It has helped reverse most of my Chronic Fatigue symptoms. It was like a switch was flipped. I could hardly was around the block, now I’m walking 6 miles a day. After 2-3 weeks of fasting and following the phases from Fast like a girl, ive lost 10 pounds. I am so excited for the other 40 pounds I have been trying to lose. I was stuck at the same weight no matter how much I was trying to eat right and work out. After the first couple of days fasting, my weight dropped immediately. Thanks Dr Mindy! 6 lbs in about 1-1/2 weeks. Need to start writing progress daily in my journal. Moved to 18 hr intermittent fasting. Moving more and exercising more. Sugar And sugary drinks, sodas I quit several years ago. I started limiting my fruits to just blueberries and organic apples. Thank you for your advice and encouragement!

I've always been a sugar lover....though not so much candies, pastries, or sodas...just in my coffee and homemade desserts where I have complete control. I also only buy organically grown, minimally processed, non-irradiated sugar cane.

A little heavy for me, as I'm happier at 130, but I'd ballooned up to 160 over the winter due to depression and lack of motivation and exercise. Nothing that fasting and getting active can't cure...though with my age, I prolly should be careful about thinking that. LOL

Down maybe 45 pounds since mid-January (didn’t weigh myself until end of February). Since weighing myself, 10-12 lbs per month which is plenty fast enough for me. In spirit of Fast Like a Girl but not exactly matched I have a randomized fasting schedule. I favor more stringent during the week and less stringent on weekends. I can range from 15 hours to 72 hour fasts and everywhere in between. I really up’ed my water (again) and overall really lost cravings and am more balanced in my eating. Not perfect but obviously in a place where my body is happy at the moment.

A Very very good Video. I make 95% of my own meals where & my diet is very Strict where I always eat low Carb & low sugar & thus my Insulin response is very low. Where this Video helps me is when I'm forced to eat at a Restaurant for a relatives birthday---or when I'm not the one in charge of making my own meal. I now know I can Work Out prior to eating someone else's food to deplete my existing sugar---or I can bump my fiber by having a large salad prior to the meal---or drink a lot of water during the meal to keep my insulin spike as low as Possible. I hate eating food I don't prepare my self---but that's not always possible & these hacks are appreciated.
This information was amazing. I'm new to the community, but this information persuaded me to purchase your book (Fast Like A Girl). I can't wait to see the results from this book.

I haven’t had any sweetener of any kind, no starchy foods, and a minimum of 30g protein per meal from only whole foods (no protein powders). The only veggies I eat are cruciferous and dark leafy greens. Only good fats. Only a couple Tbsp nuts and seeds in my daily salad. 2-3 servings of probiotic foods each day. Almost everything is organic, grass-fed, etc. Fasting 16/8 most days, 24 hour fast once a week (most weeks anyway, I’ve missed a few). Exercising regularly with strength training, HITT, and lots of stretching. Been doing all of this for almost 4 months. And I’ve only lost 7lbs. It’s so discouraging to see in the comments that people have done only a fraction of this and are losing so much weight while I’m battling for each ounce. I’m not quitting yet, and the next 3 months I’ll be working on doing longer fasts. But if anybody has any ideas what else I may need to tweak, I’m listening!
I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia 4 months ago and I haven’t had any of those horrible symptoms after just a couple of weeks into this experiment. I feel absolutely fantastic!!! But I’d love to lose these pudgy 20lbs while I’m at it.

Could be doing TOO much, cut back on the fasting And exercise for a couple of weeks and see if things change...don't know your age, but sounds like you are raising your cortisol
At the start of the pandemic I needed a challenge so I started cold showers with 18/6 fasting. Over the first year my body completely changed. I reshaped, lost all excess fat. I am still on this regime along with making L. Reuteri (Dr William Davis) it is a game changer. My body has remained the same, loads of energy no medication whatsoever and loads of energy. i am on my 12th month no period...which means i can say i have menopaused. i havent been able to fast for a long time...had zero will/zeal to do anything at all. 2 weeks ago something changed i can now fast again and im loving it. i find it now very easy to fast up to 18 and 20 hrs. i hope im doing the right thing.have at least 50 lbs to lose.

Dr. Mindy I think your knowledge is going to change my life. I have applied so many of these things throughout my life but not necessarily together. Knowing why and how things work is powerful. I really feel like I can do what I have been trying to do for so long. Ive been watching all your videos, journaling everything you say. I ordered your books they should be here Fri. I want to get through those so I know how to fast properly. Like what should I take in while fasting, ect. Im so glad I found you. I am on day 1 of no more diet drinks. Working out getting obesigens out of my diet. I have to find non alumnium deodorant and need to find a non toxic makeup.

Thanks for these tips. I've finally kicked sugar addiction using advice from this channel, and I'm so grateful! That said, we live in a society where most social interactions revolve around alcohol and/or sugar and now and then you've got family visiting, and you just want to share a piece of cake and glass of wine after an opulent meal (but also don't want to completely f up your insulin sensitivity!).
The third hack reminded me I've been wanting to ask you and your team about the keto cramps. I think it is because of dehydration and/or losing electrolytes from IF... that said I think that would be a really interesting segment on this channel. I started taking higher doses of magnesium and they cleared up, so no worries, but still curious about the reasons/science behind that phenomenon. :)

I did 24 hour intermittent fasting for 2 weeks (lost 5 lbs), then started a 7 day fast. On day 6 of a 7 day water fast, and I've lost 10 lbs. I'll eat 2 meals to break my fast and then continue with 24 hour intermittent fasting, which I do really well on. I probably have another 10-20 lbs to lose. Thank you so much for your content, it has really inspired me to do this.

Down 3stone with intermittent fasting in 7months since being diagnosed with cirrhosis (nafld) best I’ve ever felt in such a long time, just had my first consultant appointment since diagnosis here in the UK and been told to stop as I’m damaging my liver more,I’m gutted as this has been the only way I have managed to loose weight I’ve been doing 18/6 with the odd 24/36 hour every month thrown in. I’m 54 and still have about 4/5stone to go,any advice would be greatly appreciated as i love this type of lifestyle.
I've got another hack:
Drink a mixture of apple cider vinegar (the good unfiltered one!), pure lemon juice (unsweetened!), cinnamon (NOT the cassia cinnamon, take the ceylon cinnamon!) and water before every meal! It avoids glucose spikes!
I use 2 to 3 TBSP of vinegar, 2 to 3 TBSP of lemon juice, 1 TSP of cinnamon and water as much as I need to be able to drink it.
And of course I reduced my carb intake drastically, started to do my monthly 48-72 hour fasts and had my mini portions of treats at the end of my meals.
I've been doing this for a year, lost about 30 pounds in 2023, but regained 10 pounds due to cold winter, no fasting during winter (as it makes the cold temperature unbearable!), winter's cravings and christmas treats. Still trying to get rid of those 10 pounds, but it seems a lot harder now, even though I'm back to my old tracks after winter... 😕

I think it is harder if you gain it back and returning to same techniques. I lost a bunch, gained some back, now doing exact same thing but stuck. I cant do longer fasts because if meds i have to take with food.
Here are some tips for medication. Always take your medications as prescribed, and check with your pharmacist. Some people can take their Rx medications with a bit of fat, or some wilted greens and fat. You will still get great fasting benefits! Please be aware that you may be more sensitive to some medications in a fasting window.

Lost ~12lbs with varying my fasting-eating windows. Was in a 172lb plateau then I started varying the fasting lengths. Yesterday I weighed in at 160. The goal right now is to firm up and get cut for the summer

Another great video today for me to learn from. I am about to have salad and tuna with celery and green onions for breakfast. (actually my first meal of the day @ 12 pm =brunch ) who knew?
I will let you know my weight loss for this week on Monday, which is weigh-in day. I am still tweaking my nutritional needs because my new Doctor wants me to get my cholesterol numbers down in 6 months. Cutting back on eggs 🥚 and dairy cream should do it. Also, poaching my salmon and baking my chicken 🐔,, which I have once or twice a week. Also eating beets and taking milk thistle for my liver. Berries for dessert is my new favorite treat. PS weight loss to date is
9 pounds..10 to go for goal weight of 115 pounds. Yeah!

I’ve been keto for three years. I was so happy when I heard you talk about good carbs and fasting and feasting. Unfortunately it just caused me to gain weight and have trouble sleeping. Keto just seems to work better. I’m 55 and post menopausal.

Impressive Mindy - I appreciate your down to earth advice for all different people with all different circumstances and needs. I created a diet for myself back in the 90s that was built on non-deprivation. One of my principle: I could have whatever dessert / sweet I wanted, but I had to eat my 7 servings of vegetables and fruit for the day (mainly veggies) first. It helped me a great deal - I didn't obsess over what I couldn't have. I could dream all day about that bowl of ice cream I'd have at day's end, but by the time I ate my buttload of veggies plus protein and fiber, against all my will and wishes - I just wasn't hungry or craving dessert anymore!😆 I keep mini dark chocolates around plus almonds and walnuts and raspberries, and these make a great tiny, itty bitty splash of dessert. The ice cream is in the freezer, but I eat a dixie cup serving (with chocolate and nuts) once or twice a week. This principle really helped me cut down on the sugar. These ideas in this video will add even more benefit - thank you!😆 and thank you ESPECIALLY for all that kind encouragement!
