A meaning a lot of people seem to miss with the kick series as a whole is the idea of "rebirth" Arca went through with her transition, which all culminates in the final track Crown. There's lots of pregnancy/birthing imagery such as hips shifting, "how could it fit inside a body so petite", and how it is literally called crowning when a baby is coming out. There's also the multiple references throughout the series of feeling like an alien or mutant and recognising and accepting those parts of herself. As well as there being beauty in what society has deemed "abject" or wrong, which is most present on kick iii with all the more vulgar visceral lyrics. Loved watching your reactions to the series and looking forward to seeing what you think of her self-titled album
I really like when listening to the Kick series as whole how it puts you through so much emotional and in terms of a sensory experience. It's intense so the last album being kind of this triumphantly quiet album kind of feels like the warm hug after going though so much on the previous Kick albums. It's like congratulations, you did it, you made it to the end, now I am going to give you peace in the end. Excited to see your next two Bjork album reviews. Would love to see you react to MGMT - Congratulations if you haven't heard it. If you only know the big hits from their first album it will sound very surprising to you. They basically said fuck you to making another hit record and instead came out with a very psychedlic, interesting and cerebral album instead. Anyway, hope you are well.
For more tracks like Tierno you should listen to Arca’s self titled album next. My favourite Arca album.
