don't feel too bad if some arca fans get angry that you don't reaffirm their insecure beliefs, I'm glad that we have critics that generally prefer softer sound palettes. people with similar tastes to yours also deserve to have someone point them in the direction of cool music.
I think Arca is a pretty interesting artist and I've really enjoyed her first two albums, Xen and Mutant, and also her self-titled third album is pretty good too. However, I don't think that all of the Kick projects are really stuff that I would find to be instant masterpieces or anything but I did find all of them to be at least solid (except for probably KicK iii). I found myself returning to kiCK iiiii more than the others because I feel like it has the most amount of standouts here and it definitely makes for a very climactic closer to this whole series.
yeah, Kick iii seems like it would be the one I would enjoy the most since I like very energetic and/or heavy and/or Grandiose records. thank you for helping me choose to take a deeper dive into arca's work in the near future.
Honestly I think alot of fans of hers and a few more artists that make music like this fail to realize it's still music and it still has to sound good for the listeners to get into their music the problem is people and alot of musicians think Experimental music has to be weird and doesn't have to have some kind of Groove
Man I’m agreeing with a lot of what you say. I respect arca for sure, her trans journey and the creative energy of being truly experimental. But I agree that I don’t necessarily see myself listening to these in the future. Arcas cool, her visuals are cool as hell, and her music can be arresting. But I suspect there’s a lot of consumer hype around her because internetians are constantly hyping themselves up
I honestly love Kick iii, definitely my second favorite after Xen, but your opinion of it is completely valid. I personally don't like her Self Titled album at all despite the praise that it got.
is animal collective a band you would consider covering on this channel? I know that they are more of a psychedelia and experimental band but I still think they are a bit electronic. not sure if you would be a super big fan of them since they are pretty weird but I still think they are a pretty interesting and respectable musical force. they are also releasing a new album next year. Also, hope your sore tongue get better
Wow someone else shares my general mixed opinions on Kick iii. Never got the hype behind that one, it’s just loud, abrasive and frequently obnoxious, feels like it drags on way too long and focuses on elements I don’t really like from Arca. Also glad I wasn’t the only one who found the reggaeton stuff on Kick ii to fall a bit on the generic side, had the second half not been as good as it was I would’ve really not liked that one.
5 best gang i kinda agree that her kick series felt really like, uninvesting, evne for me who loves experimental electronic pop shit. most of them bored me.
i def disagree with ur opinion about kick iii but it's refreshing to hear a new, well articulated opinion on it! great vid

Nice review - you had me at "pulled an Autechre" - those incredible album covers definitely piqued my interest

Thanks for your show. I just discovered it and have gone back to see older episodes... great stuff.

Arca is extremely kitsch, and the more music they make the more the more convinced I'm about it.
