These are things which this game is attacking i.e capitalist globalization and multi-national corporations and all the issues caused by capitalism and it's inevitable contradictions. Profit is placed over the well being of people in this form of society and this game highlights this. Anti-capitalism and being critical of corporations is left wing so it's quite bizarre why all these racists and other right wingers are attracted to this video. There are capitalists of the same nationality, race, etc as you who will cause issues because of capitalism's contractions with it just consistently allowing greed & selfishness to flourish, and allowing huge amounts of resources to be pitted in the hands of the few at the expense of everyone else. I think the issue is people just mistakenly think toxic regressive identity politics simply equates to the left. This game is set in 2056. Normally I laugh at how fiction tends to overestimate our progress by a given date. It's unfortunate that this happens to be the case where they underestimated it.
Does anyone feel like this stuff was severely lacking in Human Revolution and onward? I LOVE HR- but it didn't have anything like this, that I can remember.
Matt Dawson HR was a great game, but considering the industry today, I highly doubt any game released today could not only have the kind of message Deus Ex did, but also be a popular game.
I am sure the game maker was threatened in some form or way to not add that kind of content. Id love to talk to the content creators myself to find out.
HR is a prequel and a lot of the stuff in this game probably hasn't happened yet to cause everyone you meet to be intellectually informed on the subject through researching information caused by the events of the past.
Whenever I see the news about the yellow vest protests in Paris right now, I immediately think of this game. It’s amazing and frankly scary how much this game predicted the future.
Modern millenium bible. We only need the statue of liberty blown up and we can tick off all the boxes. Consolidation is non-stop growing and getting worse. Oil crisis would be devastating. Can't wait to see 2056. Now THAT'S going to be terror.
Revisiting "Deus Ex" in 2023, it's like déjà vu smacking you right in the face. You start to wonder if the game's developers were prophets, clairvoyants who saw through the illusion and dared to warn us about our impending doom. It's more than just a game; it's a chilling mirror of our reality. Man, it's wild when you think about it. Back in the day, Orwell's 1984 envisioned an oppressive surveillance state that would monitor our every move without consent. But we gleefully did their work for them - inviting total surveillance right to our doorsteps and funding it willingly. How foolish we were. Remember George Orwell's "1984"? The oppressive government watching your every move? Well, guess what? We brought that nightmare right into our lives! We willingly invited total surveillance into our homes, tracking us day and night through those little pocket trackers we call smartphones. And the crazy part is, we pay for this privilege! We willingly fund our own demise while sipping on the elixir of modern convenience. Smartphones, once hailed as miracles of modern technology, have become our personal tracking devices. Every move, every interaction, every word is captured and dissected by the all-seeing eye. We are but cogs in the machine of surveillance capitalism, feeding the insatiable hunger for data with our every breath. We sacrificed the last remnants of anonymity by embracing the convenience of credit cards, abandoning the untraceable cash that once granted us a sliver of freedom. With each swipe, we unwittingly laid bare the contours of our lives, surrendering our privacy for the sake of convenience. We now carry surveillance devices in our pockets by choice, fill our homes with listening devices enthusiastically, and ditched untraceable cash for trackable cards that we love. We pay for our own loss of liberty and thank our corporate overlords for the privilege as we send them their monthly subscription fees to their surveilance networks. And let's not forget dear old Snowden, that brave soul who risked everything to warn us about the vast surveillance machinery lurking in the shadows. But did we listen? Nah, we just went back to snapping selfies and posting cat videos like nothing happened. Who needs privacy when you can have likes and followers, right? We shrugged, buried our heads in the sand, and returned to our daily routines, trading selfies for surveillance, and likes for liberty. Deus Ex envisioned a disturbing future where centralized data would become the ultimate power. Where technology could subjugate rather than liberate if concentrated in the wrong hands. It showed the risks of unfettered technocratic control. It showed us what would be our future, and what is now our truth. The game highlighted threats like invasive biometrics, the erosion of privacy and autonomy through networks, AI-driven manipulation. Its cyberpunk vision looked ahead to realities like social credit systems, predictive policing, algorithmic governance. In the game, new augmentations were addictive, compromised agency, and shifted power dynamics, just as smartphones bring convenience at the cost of constant monitoring. Deus Ex asked vital philosophical questions about transhumanism that still resonate. The illuminati conspiracy foreshadowed today's unease about big tech monopolies consolidating control behind the scenes under utopian pretenses. Deus Ex peeled back the facade to reveal dystopian potentials lurking behind digital utopia. In Deus Ex, ubiquitous intel and security systems enabled the surveilled society, like our web of digital networks today. Cameras tracked citizens' every move, just as our smartphones geo-locate us 24/7 now. No conspiracy needed - only our willing participation. The game showed the risks inherent in these systems, how mass data collection could be abused by the powerful. It revealed tensions between security and freedom, as we debate encryption today. Deus Ex highlighted the precarious balance needed to preserve liberty. Instead of heeding these warnings, we've strolled blindly down the very path Deus Ex cautioned against. Our complacency allowed tech to advance absent ethics. As a result, we inhabit the subtle dystopia Deus Ex predicted decades ago. We are Adam Jensen, both victim and collaborator. Once upon a time, we inhabited a world where privacy and autonomy flowered under big blue skies of freedom. Now, we find ourselves condemned to a techno-dystopian wasteland of our own creation. Any semblance of liberty or individuality has been eaten alive - consumed by the insatiable jaws of surveillance capitalism. We have no one to blame but our own headlong recklessness. Like mindless moths, we raced into the fluorescent flames of convenience, connectivity and control. We willfully handed over the keys to our lives in exchange for the shiniest of apples, not comprehending the cost until far too late. Now corporations and governments feast on the carcass of our privacy to fatten their coffers and consolidate their dominion. Our data streams endlessly into their gaping maws as they craft increasingly potent methods of manipulation. We are but chattel in this machine world. We've become unwitting victims, manipulated by the devices we thought would set us free. We traded our liberty for convenience, and now we're shackled to the very machines we once adored. The game was our warning, but we shrugged it off like it was just fiction. Little did we know that fiction would become reality. We willingly sacrifice our privacy, eagerly embracing the allure of modern convenience and constant connectivity. And here we are, stuck in this cyberpunk nightmare with no escape in sight. We could break free, sure, but who wants to go back to a life without smartphones, netflix, credit cards, and amazon deliveries? We've become the architects of our own demise, and we don't even care. The warnings were there, but we turned a blind eye. We sold our souls for convenience and now find ourselves trapped in this techno-dystopia. "Deus Ex" was our wake-up call, but we hit the snooze button, and now it's too late. The lines between reality and fiction have blurred, and we're left to wander the ruins of a future that was once avoidable. The digital panopticon watches us without remorse, a cold and unfeeling overseer that feeds on our data like a ravenous beast. We are but lambs led to slaughter, blissfully unaware of the true cost of our complacency. There is no turning back, no escape from this technological prison we built for ourselves. The hour is late, and the ink of hope has long dried. There are no more crossroads left to ponder, no choices to be made. The script has been written, and we are mere actors on a stage of our own making. In this dystopian reality, we wander like lost souls, haunted by the echoes of "Deus Ex" and the warnings we chose to ignore. The line between reality and fiction has blurred, and we find ourselves trapped in a perpetual nightmare from which there is no awakening. Foolishly, we continue to feed the beasts that enslave us. Our devotion to the tools of our oppression exceeds any notion of resistance. Smartphones, social media, Alexa - these are our beloved masters now. Hope is but a distant memory, a flickering flame swallowed by the unforgiving darkness. We are condemned to a future devoid of agency, where the illusion of choice masks our enslavement. "Deus Ex" was more than a game; it was a reflection of our own folly. We had the chance to change the narrative, to defy the prophecy, but we squandered it in pursuit of fleeting comforts. Now, as we traverse this bleak landscape, we are but specters of what we once were. The visionaries of "Deus Ex" warned us, but we failed to heed their call. Our fate is sealed, our destiny etched in stone. In this nightmarish fusion of "1984" and "Deus Ex," or as we call it, "reality", we are prisoners of our own making, doomed to endure the consequences of our choices. The future is not bright; it is a black void devoid of hope. This is the world we have wrought, the future we deserve. The possibilities once so vibrant have been suffocated under layers of nihilism and cynicism. Nothing awaits us but the void, expanding silently until it swallows everything we once held dear. This grim fate was sealed the moment convenience won out over conscience. The hourglass is empty now. There are no crossroads left to ponder. So, let us abandon all notions of resistance and embrace our fate with stoic resignation. The grand drama of surveillance society unfolds, and we are but insignificant players in a cosmic tragedy. The end is nigh, and there is no escape from the abyss that awaits us.

Rex 84, short for Readiness Exercise 1984, was a classified scenario and drill developed by the United States federal government to detain large numbers of United States citizens deemed to be "national security threats", in the event that the President declared a "State of National Emergency". The plan was first revealed in detail in a major daily newspaper by reporter Alfonso Chardy in the July 5, 1987 edition of the Miami Herald. Possible reasons for such a roundup were reported to be widespread opposition to a U.S. military invasion abroad, such as if the United States were to directly invade Central America. To combat what the government perceived as "subversive activities", the plan also authorized the military to direct ordered movements of civilian populations at state and regional levels, according to Professor Diana Reynolds.

In the first game, he's a non-violent idealist who stands up for the little man, fighting back against the oppressive, power-hungry MJ-12. Paul even calls him a friend. But 20 years later, his newfound power as WTO chairman and Illuminati leader has twisted him into someone who's no better than the people he stood up to, even going so far to call for Paul, a man who was once his friend and ally, to be executed.

Some sections from some book written in the 20's in the 20th century still hold up to this day.

Pretty accurate to real life. Everyone wants to know atleast a little bit about secrets and conspiracies, so its not an uncommon topic to come up with co-workers.
wikipedia says the lead writer of the first game was Sheldon Pacotti. this brodi was dropping some serious redpills for his day. I would assume Warren Spector was also sufficiently woke. Morgan Everetts computer password being pynchon is a favorite touch.

And this is why Deus Ex can never make a comeback. It absolutely *can* exist in today's world, but there are too many people who don't *want* it to.
And I was thouroughly disappointed in Human Revolution since it had very little to none of that 'conspiracies everywhere' feeling, or dialogues like with Morpheus.
I've been replaying both recently. HR drops the word "conspiracies" or "conspirators" a few times but HR doesn't really have any conspiracies. It's more like a crime drama that involves corporations. Not much more to it than that.
+OVERLORD Gearhead that's what's missing from human revolution. I can understand why it's not as grand as the original being a prequel an all, but I definitely think Jensen should have delved deeper into the rabbit hole
I mean, you had the reference to the Illuminati as well as the situation of the corporations controlling the people through their augments, hell Bob Page himself was in it. Do I think it was better then the original, nah, but it was still pretty good, especially after Invisible War.

Makes me think is it 'predicted' or are they orchestrating it so it looks like it's predicted.
While it isn't as bad as the black plague let alone the grey death in the game, people who are safe from the virus are those with money, meanwhile poor people - as in those in or just above the poverty line - are fucked, whether they got the virus or not.
It's not completely accurate but the fact that it happened and played out similarly to the grey death pandemic, in addition to how it is possibly man made, is quite astonishing.

Catcrumbs Chad Dumier, aka the Minister of True Lies, I believe.
Oh, yeah and one of the girls you can hire from Mamasan in the Lucky Money is called 'Maymay'.
One of the things about Invisible War that I actually really liked is how it portrays, through Chad, how much power corrupts people.
