Great explanation of Mercedes Me app. I wish the dealer had actually gone through the benefits of it when I bought my vehicle nearly 3 years ago. Now it is coming up for renewal and it was only by checking your video that I could see what it actually enables you to do.

Hi Nick, just wanted to thank you for all of your great content re Mercedes. I bought a 2019 C220d AMG Line estate a few weeks ago, part exchanged a 2016 Mondeo Titanium as part of the deal and initially I didn't find the Merc particularly intuitive regarding the media and control systems. I've done a fair bit of research and reading and of course found your channel and I have to say I am really impressed with the Merc....I've even updated the satnav maps which was very quick, the Ford map updates took around 2 hours to complete in-car even with loading from a usb stick. Anyway, I'm rambling, thanks again for all the info you are sharing, greatly appreciated. Liked n subbed, Daz, Leicester.

Thanks for the question! Urban Guard is something that Mercedes-Benz are bringing out to certain models which can detect if someone is trying to break in, cause damage and even try to drive away.
There have been no official documents to say it is coming to the UK as of yet, however there are rumours that it might be on the new 2020 E-Class. We’ll have to wait and see! 👀
Another great video which I came to a bit late. I had a Mercedes Me adapter in a W212 E-Class before I moved into a 2017 GLE which came with a full suite of the “native” Mercedes Me features. I really thought the adapter app would be inferior to the installed version but it has some are some features I miss, such as trip destination and length, refuelling info (cost, mileage and location), driver rating, and a map with black dots showing recent destinations. A pity it’s not possible to use the adapter in newer models.

Thanks for the comment! Yes you are right the Mercedes me adapter has those features where as the in built Mercedes me functionality doesn’t have those.
Who knows? It could be added in the future, I’ve seen a fair few features added over the years so we’ll just have to keep an eye out!

Mercedes me services can vary so much from model to model but the one’s on the app and in the Mercedes me store will be applicable to your SL.
From memory they’ll be two packages,
Vehicle Set Up (Unlock and Lock, vehicle stats such as tyre pressure, reminders of left unlocked after a journey, notifications from the car if something needs attention)

Vehicle Monitoring (locating your car on a map along with geofencing)

The window open / close feature only started appearing on the app fairly recently over the past couple of years, if you can see it in your app then your car is capable of doing it 🤓

Is there a way to keep the MBUX route guidance on while plugged into Android Auto/Apple CarPlay? No unfortunately not, Apple CarPlay / Android Auto are replacements for the MBUX system, they can't be used together you'll have to choose which one you prefer!
Both have their own sets of features, I guess it kind of depends what works for you :)

Really finding your videos helpful, get my new EQA on Monday. It’s a NHS fleet car, can I still have access to this app with it being a hire vehicle? Also the monitoring of the vehicle do you have to be near it to view this? I park my car usually at airports when on holiday, would be great if it notifies me if someone is taking it for a drive whilst on holiday 😂😂. Thank you for all your advice

Yes you can, as long as you’re the main user 🤓
You’ll normally need to provide a V5 document to your local Mercedes-Benz to provide proof of ownership. However you might not have access to that, so usually something like an order form would do but double check with them to see what they can accept 🤓
The Mercedes me app does work remotely over the mobile phone networks, so will work almost anywhere out in the open, basically wherever you have phone signal 🤓
Working my way through your tutorials, I found this one very helpful on the Navi. I had been used to the Jaguar InControl system and was able to go back, date wise and check on an individual journey. I s this possible with Mercedes me?

No sadly Mercedes cars do not store previous journeys on their app or in the car
Excellent video, i picked up my E Class 220d night ed on 1st June however due to Covid the dealers were unable to go through the features,ive found some but obviously not all ive noticed after watching your video some of the tabs are deactivated like lock windows ,doors Valet parking,Internet, ive tried the all services tab but nothing.

Yes unfortunately some of the tabs are on the app are not available on every car as Mercedes me is standardised for the whole range. This means you might see things like that however you never know, there could be updates released by Mercedes me to enable it in the future!
I would however check with your local Mercedes-Benz showroom and just double check to make sure your car is linked correctly.

i've recently purchased an A200 and have the Mercedes Me app but am unsure it's linking correctly. Should i be able to change the tyre pressure value within the app and it change in the car? the car shows kpa but i'd like it in psi?

The tyre pressure units on the cars can't actually be changed unfortunately. I've seen it before as it's measured in KPA. The app recently had an update this year to allow that change on the app so that's why it might look a bit different.

Hi phil o, Unfortunately it's not something that is supported on all Mercedes-Benz models so I wasn't planning on doing a video about that. Believe it or not there are some countries in the world where having speed camera locations on your Sat Nav is illegal! Thankfully though, my suggestion would be that if this is a feature you really like, use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Google Maps and especially Waze offer community based uploads from people in realtime which will offer you the most up to date info when on the road. I wouldn't rely on just someone creating POI's with speed cameras as they may never get updated where as you can be sure Waze & Google Maps will be. Hope that helps! 🤓 I didn’t spend all that extra in order to use my phone You might want to mention if you use CarPlay, you can’t use a second phone I.e a work and personal phone as you can through Bluetooth. We all know cameras locations are a guide but on the other hand 530 million out of 550 million citizens of Europe aren’t near any roads that you can exceed 83 mph legally yet Mercedes sell cars like mine that will do 155. The safety partnerships and association of chief police officers also support camera mapping as it slows people down at accident blackspots this saving lives. Regards Phil.

No unfortunately not, in the Mercedes-Benz range Pre-Entry start is only found on Hybrids & Electric cars (with the exception to a G-Class with a winter package and Marco Polo with an auxiliary heater).
This is for the UK though, I wouldn't know what other countries have as it can vary just a little bit from country to country.

It should do, all GLC’s as far as I’m aware are compatible. Depending on the spec of your GLC, it may have come with those services free for 3 years.
As it’s past that now, they can be renewed on the Mercedes me Store as long as your car is actually on your Mercedes me account. If it’s not, speak to your local Mercedes-Benz dealership and they can link it up for you.

Great videos Nick really loving these and it is really helping me get to grips with it all. Just recently bought a 2019 GLC AMG Line and some services are not all activated, do I have to go to a local Mercedes Benz Dealership to show proof of ID etc to get me fully connected?

It doesn’t take too long, with the UK lockdown in affect at the moment most of them accept confirmation like a V5 remotely via email.

Hey Paul, unfortunately no you can’t change the units in the car. Changing it on the app just changes the appearance on the app units only.

Hey Nick what happens if you go through location that have no reception and your car breaks down will concierge help with no signal
There is larger coverage over the UK for SOS calls rather than 3G or 4G so hopefully that wouldn’t be an issue but if you’re in a very remote area then it is possible that a call might not take place

Unfortunately no, in the UK pre-entry climate control is only available on cars that have auxiliary heating which are found on hybrids or electric cars.

Yes so all Mercedes-Benz made after 2016 ish have Mercedes me capability built in. On some models (and depending on your specification) it’s free for 3 years but you can buy extra services on the Mercedes me store.
In the UK, these are called Vehicle Set Up and Vehicle Monitoring.

What year is your E-Class? You should be able to view this information with the buttons on your steering wheel. Usually found under service and then AdBlue 🤓

No you don't need to, it can be done via your phone's browser, Mercedes me 2020 app or your pc/laptop. But it sounds like you've already got it going anyway if you've got the app 🤓

I don’t know what Mercedes me services are like in other countries but in the UK the main ones are Live Traffic Information, Map Updates and use of the Mercedes me App (free for 3 years from new).
The Mercedes me app can notify of any issues such as car left unlocked, alarms set off, tyre pressures, windscreen wash, service intervals and many more. The app also allows you to locate the car and even unlock / lock remotely!
Great video nick. I’m using a 2019 c43 facelift in Malaysia. I’ve seen on multiple videos that this model supports the Mercedes me in Europe etc. This feature was recently introduced in Malaysia this month. And they are saying it comes built in with new 2020 vehicles. And for older vehicles we are given the adapter option that uses the ´mercedes me adapter´ app. Basically this adapter connects via Bluetooth and not SIM card. My infotainment systems is COMAND. Would I be able to use the Mercedes Me app with SIM card instead of the adapter feature. Is my vehicle already fitted with the required hardware ? If no what hardware would I need ? Thank you Nick !

I’d imagine it’s the same as UK spec vehicles, so if it is your car should have the remote SIM Card module so you won’t need an adapter. If I recall, the Mercedes me SIM card module has been available on C-Class models since 2015 so your C43 should be all good!

Nick does the app automatically load up the features available to your car?
For example you have windows on the home screen whereas I dont.

Yes it does, however not all cars have that feature as it was only very recently introduced for specific models that have just come out.
Your local dealership will be able to load the factory spec sheet up for your car and see if it has functions like that however if it’s not there I’m fairly positive it won’t be able to do it.
You can also check on the list of Mercedes me services on the app.
Top left menu, tap on your car and then Manage Services. If it’s listed there then you have it.
Can I get my Samsung Galaxy phone maps app to appear on the monitor? Or is there a navigation app that I can use gla 180 urban 2020. Thanks

It does depend of the specification of your GLA but you can find out if you have Android Auto by pressing "TEL" on your car and then press "TEL" again. If you see Android Auto in that list, then your GLA is compatible.
The next thing you'll need to do is check to see if your phone is compatible, I would check the specs of your phone to see if it can as I don't know which phones are compatible with Android Auto as there are so many.

I’d really appreciate a detailed video on keyless go. I notice that even with it disabled, the doors will unlock when the handle touched if I have opened the boot manually. Sometimes it doesn’t. I can’t quite figure it out

When you press lock twice it should switch keyless entry off :)

Yeah it’s mainly for storing the spare key in the house or if you want to switch off Keyless entry temporarily.
If you interact with the car like opening the boot then yes it’ll switch back on.
Does the Mercedes A Class AMG Trim, Premium Pack 2018 come with Android Auto or the ability to purchase a smartphone package? I have been looking for this answer everywhere!
Hey Richard the A-Class had a model change in 2018 so I’m not sure if it’s the current shape or the one before. If it’s the latest shape it was a separate item back then from factory but you can purchase Android Auto afterwards via the Mercedes me store. Contact your local dealership and they can check the ref / chassis number to double check for you.

Is it possible in the UK to have remote start? I've had a cla 220d (2022 plate) now about to get a 2018 cls 350d. Spoke to the dealer and they're not sure. I didn't know if it was a UK restriction but I know volvos have the feature....
No sadly not, it’s just Plug-in Hybrids and All-Electric cars in Mercedes (the one exception to that is the Marco Polo campervan)
Other cars sadly do not have an auxiliary heater

I have heard though there are some other apps that might do this for mileage tracking etc 🤓
Are you going to do one on uploading POI speed camera locations or is this Verbotten? Compared to JLR products (which tell you the exact gantry on a motorway) the Mercedes features are terrible on this score and without such functionality, would certainly put me off leasing Mercedes products in the future, especially if I get caught out before leases end.

Not sure what a freelift trunk system is, is that like an electric boot where it closes when you press the button?
If it is that, I wouldn’t know I’m afraid as the A-Class doesn’t have an electric boot at all so not sure if it’s possible to install if it didn’t have it in the first place.

Hi Guy, that’s right, some cars have the services free of charge for the first 3 years of the car’s registration. After which Mercedes me Services are a chargeable extra.
In the UK, to use the full functionality of the app, it’s approx £60 a year.
Great video. I didnt understand the Android app charge i thought it just allowed you to connect it in the car. Mine just connected with no fee.
Some models you have to pay for Android Auto / Apple CarPlay where as some are included with the specification. Just depends what you ordered or what was already on the car 🤓
Hi Nick. I just watched the mercedes app clip. I have Glb 200. When I use phone to lock car. Can i set it to make a noise upon locking? Ive searched the app and cant find this info. I know where to sound horn etc in vehicle search but thought i may be able to have accoustic lock when using app to lock. Look forward to your response

Sadly no you can’t program a noise when you lock it via the app. But yes you’re right with “Acoustic Lock” it can be enabled for when you physically lock it with the key 🤓

It should be but it depends where you live though! In the UK, we have a new app called Mercedes me 2020, but I do know that a few countries still have the older app.
I’m not sure when it’s being updated so it’s probably best to just keep an eye out.

I can’t speak for Mercedes-Benz in Belgium as they might role at the update differently but if it’s the same as the UK launch it took a few months for the old app to stop working. You could always download both for now and see how you get on with the new one!

Hello, just a quick question on mecedes me.. can it act as a tracking device for insurance purposes?
There is a new service out now which is called “Stolen Vehicle Help”. It’s £89 for 1 Year, £159 for 2 and £219 for 3 years. This one’s the one that can be used for “tracking a car” with the info being sent to the police.
This is in the UK, I’m not sure if it’s the same everywhere.

Yes of course, in the event that you don't have a V5 (usually because you're leasing/renting), an order form or just something that offers as proof it's your car for the lease will do.

Just double check you have set up the subscription on the Mercedes me portal on the website. You do have to pay monthly for that service just like smartphones and their data each month.

No sadly not, Mercedes me came out roughly 2015 / 2016 onwards
But how does it connect? E-SIM built-in to a 4g/5g network and if so, how is this charged or how is it modeled?
Hey Rob, it’s got a built in communications module that connects to the Vodafone network. It’s secured so can’t be swapped out with anything else.
It’s constantly connected to the network for all of the Mercedes me functions but of course depends on the model as to the full list of what it can do.
Nick after purchasing from the Mercedes me store how long does it take to go on your phone I've been told it takes 48 hours is this right cheers Steve
It can take up to 48hrs however I am aware Mercedes me are experiencing some issues with activation of services at the moment. I believe they’re working on it but to check you can always call them on 00800 9777 7777 or there is a help section in the app where you can request a call back 🤓

I’ve registered my profile with Mercedes me and had the identity check however the app does not give me any access to the car? Would it have something to do with me not being the registered owner as I’m leasing it through my business? Thanks in advance
Hi Hassan, thank you! Best to speak to your local Mercedes-Benz dealership where they’ll just ask to see some proof of ownership. Anything from a V5 (if you have it) to an confirmation order form with the reg or chassis will do!
just says activation in progress on mercedes app been like that for 6 hrs took the car for a drive still same issue. used to work fine before it expired so re purchased it again but just issues now, can you help?
Hey Beepin, best to speak with the Mercedes me help team on that one. There’s a help section on the top left of the app.
Once activated / purchased it can take up to 24 hours to appear in the app and you do have to drive around outside too for the car to connect.
Hello, man just bought new mercedes e350e, and i got all those features, only thing is not working is remote car locking, so when i press ”doors” i cant open or lock doors for some reason and same thing for windows. Do you know the reason for that? Thank you for amazing videos.
Hey SoA, with some models the Mercedes me App is included free of charge for the first 3 years but you’ll have to check your Mercedes me account or speak with your local dealership to be sure.
Unlocking / Locking the car is part of the Vehicle Set Up package, so if you’re sure you have it and it’s still not working, give Mercedes me Support a call. Top left on Menu and then help.

I certainly have! It's really cool!
The only issue with it is, is it's availability. Due to the amount of tech involved it was only available on a 2 out of the 35 models in the Mercedes-Benz range. Those two are currently have facelifts and upgrades at the moment and I haven't had confirmation that it will be in those.
If it does, I will 100% cover this next year as they come out!

No the Mercedes me app works via an inbuilt SIM card in the car. So you can send commands to it from anywhere you have internet! As long as the car can receive internet then it‘ll work!

Hey Max, no you probably won’t have the V5 but a lease agreement or similar will do. Just something that shows you’re the driver for the duration of your lease (with chassis or something).

Honestly not sure on that one. I had heard that it might have the ability to record things in case of a break in or if it was hit while parked up.
This may be restricted due to the UK market so may be why it’s not visible on the Mercedes me store.

In the UK it goes through to the 00800 number which is basically Mercedes-Benz assistance for Mercedes me, breakdown and just general queries. Concierge I believe was trialed in the UK but just wasn’t used enough so was removed.

You can purchase Smartphone integration but only on cars with MBUX. Always best to check the Mercedes me store first, that’ll tell you for sure if you can do it.

Cant start pre heat due to to much time taking to communicate with vehicle. Good idea just doesn't work so I deleted and told Mercedes to stick there account where the sun no longer shines. Great video 😉

@@npoleary I've been to my local Merc dealer twice already to try and sort out a software glitch with no luck. I have a fake Mercedes in the form of a EV Smart Car . Dont know what's happened since I bought it two years ago because the first App worked fine now the App cant communicate with the vehicle. Plus I cant use manual pre heat settings because I'm lucky if the car will charge to 100%

How was it left with your local dealership? In terms of the app functions, I know you have to accept Terms and conditions and switch the services on to get it to function. The new app doesn't appear to show me anything compared to the old app. Are you sure it's a replacement for customers with older models? I have a CLS 350CDI 2013. It says incomplete configuration but only shows the adaptor as enabled and no options available from the store.

This replacement app is for vehicles that do not need the Mercedes me adapter (built roughly after 2015).
I think yours will have the adapter so you’ll just need to reinstall the Mercedes me adapter app for now. I haven’t been informed of any updates for that one as of yet.

What is the purposes of creating areas on the Mercedes me app?
Ah this is part of the Mercedes me Geofencing service.
Basically it allows you set an area for example, your home and if the car leaves this area, you’ll get an alert.
You could use this in another example for airport car parking, when you’re away on holiday, you could set it so you’ll receive a notification if your car leaves or enters an area 🤓

There is no way to view emails on MBUX, you can have text messages come through but unfortunately not emails. Even Apple CarPlay or Android Auto don’t have this. I’d imagine it’s for safety behind the wheel.

It does depend on the model you're looking at, some Mercedes-Benz will have everything included for free for 3 years where as others will be subscription based from day one.
Check with your local Mercedes-Benz Dealership and they can check for "Pre-Installation for Vehicle Set Up" and "Pre-Installation for Vehicle Monitoring" on the spec sheet. This will indicate if it is free for 3 years from date of registration.

That’s not a problem! If you explain that to your local dealership and take in some form of proof that it’s your car, that wouldn’t be a problem.

Mercedes-Benz do release different models at different times in different countries and the same also applies to app updates too.
Hopefully it'll roll out soon, I don't know when and what countries it's available in but you'll get a notification if it does come to Australia!

Hey Lzaryon, it can take up to 24 hours to activate and does require you to drive at least once during that period.
If it’s still not working, best to give Mercedes me a call or message them via the app.
Help section is Top Left and then at the bottom, there is a help button.

Don’t worry if you need your service history it can be requested from any Mercedes-Benz dealership and emailed to you.

Even in 2021, the app still looks the same but actually has a couple of new features. If it changes significantly then I’ll consider making a new one.
If the features aren’t showing for you, it could be possible that your Mercedes-Benz doesn’t have them but if it’s newer than 2016 ish, you should be able to buy Vehicle Set Up (Remote Unlock & Lock) & Vehicle Monitoring (locate you car on a map). You may also have access to other ones too but it depends on your model.

I don’t know for certain but I have had a few people ask about in the comments sections on my videos. My only guess is that it’s not out yet in the USA. If I’m honest, if you speak to your local dealership they’ll be able to advise you if they have heard anything in terms of a lunch date.
