Good morning I just heard someone brought a Benz 350 gle 2020 with 56,000 miles and his engines failed , the sound from the engine was loud knocking . He brought it used . What miles is best to buy in this model I’m in US
Had mine for 4 years, modest 60k mileage, no problems so far. Regular maintenance and being careful, the ride, comfort, speed and premium experience is just as good as the first day.
What I have learned from owners of premium cars: first they say they never had problems with their cars and after a while they start telling the truth about their countless dealer visits.
It genuinely is hit and miss. Genuine first account here : my dad has always bought premium euro stuff and has zero major issues just general wear and tear and that also minor stuff, myself included owning a polo gti aw for the past 3+ years absoloutly no issues, all my cousins and uncles same story. I guess it really depends on maintenance and luck.
Own Volvo's, have for awhile, never buy new, find a good speacilist mechanic, never go to the dealerships unless you have to. Have always gone diesels, haven't had an issue. Saftey levels through the roof, best seats in any car I ever had an lovely to drive.
@@ChrisKeymani have a GLC43. Fantastic handling and fast. Air suspension takes you through corners much flatter - I found the GLC300 to roll a lot in corners - the 43 air suspension solves this even in comfort mode. Yes it can be a bit rough on poor surfaces. Key is to move off run flats as soon as you can - michelin cross climate 2 sizes to fit.
I've just started watching this. And I have three hit predictions: 1. You're going to not recommend buying this vehicle unless you're mechanically minded yourself. 2. The word "s*it" will be used at least twice. 3. You're going to rummage through the sunglass holder to find out what brand of sunnies the owner wears. 😅
Crazy how these have heck lots of issues compared to their normal W205 C-Class brothers. My Sibling had one till 193k km with a C220d OM651 Diesel Engine. Everything was running fine but his family grew and he opted to go for an E-Class W213 E350d.
Yeah. Look, I am saying this as a German with a relative who worked as a Mercedes mechanic all his life until he retired: Don't buy a modern Mercedes. The brand still works but its cars don't. If you want a Mercedes deserving of the name you gotta buy one from 1999 or earlier. Back when the engineers ruled the company. They ENGINEERED the car and then a price was set according to the cost of the engineering and building process. You got what you paid for. Literally. That's how Mercedes became known for quality. The cars were expensive for a (very good) reason. But modern Mercedes is nothing like that. Modern Mercedes operates like all the other brands. Setting a price first, then engineering and building toward that price point. (and then charging extra for the brand name)
@@barbarusbloodshed6347 I'd say that 2006 is the last good year for Mercedes, maybe excluding the SLK/CLK for a few more years in their more basic packages. The day the M113 got replaced by the M156 was when the switch truly occurred. Don't get me wrong, when those 6.2L's run great they are MONSTERS but they usually have a life expectancy around 110k-130k miles, sometimes less, until a head bolt needs upgraded. Also, casting errors started becoming a BIG problem. Whether it be Blocks or camshafts or pistons or rods or cylinder walls, they just don't last without serious $$$. The M112/M113/M113k? I honestly don't think they really have an expiration date. They just keep going and going with basic maintenance. 300 to 400 to 500k miles and up, there was an SL I think that has 800k+ miles out there. Even those 5-speed transmissions were tough as nails, they would almost last as long as the engine with fluid changes every 40k miles and maybe a conductor plate at 300k miles. At around the same time the M156 came out, the 7G Shiftronic came out and while they can handle power pretty well, they had reliability issues as well! To engineer motors that go a million miles and drop down to barely 100k, that's an absolute travesty!
My father owned a W123, a W201 and a facelifted W203 200 CDI. The W123 and W201 were meh. Nothing near like the quality of a Lexus or a Toyota. I admit: they were from another decades. The W203 was amazing: 400.000 km with some problems, but the engine kept on going without changing the double timing chain.
You nail most aspects about most cars, truly impressed with your laid back no nonsense approach to cars in general. We are sucked in by as you mentioned brand spin and clever targeted marketing, we go soft at the knees for so little. Truly respect, enjoy and watch your funny, quirky take on cars. P.S. Will you test the 1977-1992 Volvo 240 station wagon, from the aspect of how many hagstrom amp's you could fit and still feel happy in the back ? Respect Karl the cross-rhythm drummer 4/4
You hit the nail on the head about style over substance. The German brands used to be too for engineering, not anymore. They have cut corners more than many manufacturers and the cost cutting is so obvious when you dive into the engine bay and the general car beyond the flashy interior. And the premium brands absolutely rip their customers off for parts and labour. People forget that a lot of the engineering is actually Nissan and Renault (A-Class = Infiniti QX). Great video guys
Nice to see a car we own and what to expect what can go wrong or what to be cautious about. Thanks ReDriven! Isnt this most sold MB currently? I can say for end 2016/early2017 220d 190.000km, it is true that bump stops under "Comfort" setting hit every time over speedbumps ("Sport" mode prevents hitting bumpstops), squeaking brakes, crabwalking also. But crabwalking can be solved with proper tires fitted (good luck finding correct ones). Got DPF changed for free after warranty. Leather on the bolsters of the seats fade, rattle in back on passenger side over rough roads. Diesel consumption is 7.5-8.5, we more times take opel/vauxhall astra 1.4 for the trip rather then GLC due the cost although ride is more comfy and better.
I own a 2020 GLC 300. This video seems to have an overall misleading agenda. I've had no issues at all. The only complaint I have is being stopped to get compliments all the time.
I owned a 2016 GLC250 from new and had the airmatic option (air suspension) have to say the ride quality is superb until I had a warning light showing up suggesting there’s an issue with the airmatic system just at 5 year mark with below 60k km mileage. Dealer initially diagnosed it saying both front air springs are dead needs to be replaced and quote A$6800 and I was advised that the car needs to stay in dealership as it’s not suitable for drive. Waited 3 month for the parts to be shipped from overseas (it was during the supply chain crisis) they called me saying that they found the pump is dead too and wanted me to pay an additional A$5100 for the pump - had to tell the dealer that I’m bringing this issue to ACCC and not paying a cent for the extra issue they told me after they had the car for three months. Ended up only paid what was originally agreed and had a ‘good will’ warranty split from MB for the replacement of the pump. Not touching any MB in my life - what a bloody nightmare.
Burnt out pump is common on airmatic cars with leak if you leave the leak too long Goodwill is a good point that most people don’t know about and why servicing at a dealer during warranty and just outside of warranty can be beneficial with euro brands I’ve had cars upto 7 years old with goodwill claims with Audi, BM and Benz and only paid partial contributions for repair
@@dorianvisser1922 You are right about the pump burnt out with leave it too long - my complaint for the dealer was they were very confident that the air spring is the problem and said no other issues. I thought they had tested the pump already but was only told that it was broken after waiting for 3 months - my theory to the dealer is then what if it’s just the pump at the beginning - and statistically for two air spring to break at the exact same time is very rare - on that seperate note I did have the car always serviced by the dealer might be the reason they did the good will split.
My suggestion to anyone who is buying a new vehicle and it has to be from a prestige brand, buy a Lexus. You will get the same driving experience as a European brand but without the nightmares.
Lexus is not even in the same ball park when it comes to luxury and driving dynamics, agreed they will outlive any German vehicle…. But Lexus vehicles just don’t excite the driver.
I know that Mercedes quality has gone down a bit, but my family has a 2019 C300 with 139k km on it, and we’ve had almost no problems with it. Especially when it comes to build quality, it has been very solid. Before this we also had a 2017 C300 and again, no problems even after 80k+ kms.
@@HardstylePete 139k km is a lot of wear and tear on a car especially when it's city driving. The majority of the kms on this car is from city driving since new, which is very different than a car with that many kms from mostly highway driving.
Like this video, Thanks for pinpointing the interior issues which I have had and just gave up a long time ago. I have a rattling noise in my 2020 GLC300 and brought my car in to different dealerships several times, ended up finding nothing. After my last visit for this issue about 3 years ago, I just simply gave up lol it's so irritably random and coming from trunk area and driver seat. I won't pay to find and fix this random noise as it is just so random. Other than that, it is a really fun car to drive.
Bad timing for this video as I'm currently helping my sis sell her 2015 GLC250d 😆 However in fairness, she's had it since new and apart from some door lock issues very early on, it's been a very reliable family car for her. I've had it for the last month and am surprised at how well it's held up for 8 years and 90000km esp the interior, still looks new!
I’ve heard a lot of bad experiences with newer Mercs. On the other hand, many say the W212 generation of E-class is one of the best built “new” Mercedes. Any chance of a review on that one? Both the pre- and post-facelifted versions!
W212 is an excellent car Buy the V6 350 and the 5.4 litre (called 5.5) V8 they are the most reliable 4 cylinder engines can have same issues and other Inc stretched timing chains and cam gear issues 500 has Airmatic as standard So look for an E350 with normal sunroof not panoramic on steel springs not Airmatic with vision pack and you won’t go wrong E350d would be next choice heaps more torque and better fuel economy but leaky oil cooler so keep a couple of grand in your pocket for repairs
I agree with points made above. I purchased a 2012 E350 W212 low mileage example for my parents. They’ve now had it several years and absolutely love it. It has the basic luxuries one would need while keeping everything relatively simple. There’s a reason why the W212 Mercedes was used as taxis all over the world.
I had my 2015 250D since new and here are some of the issues I have encountered 1. tire hop on a full turn (solved by changing the tires) 2. Driver side auto window doesn't seem to cooperate every now and then ( Solved - NO) 3. Adaptive headlight inoperative (solved by disable it on settings) 4. Auxiliary battery malfunction ( solved by replacing the blown fuse) 5. harsh impact on pot holes or speed bumps ( Solved by trying to avoid them or go slow on them ) 6. Gear shifts become sluggish over time ( Solved by reset the transmission )
We have a 2021 GLC 43 AMG. It is a wonderful engine and transmission. The 6 has a ton of power and sounds great too!! I plan on keeping it for a while.
Adam I bought the first model GLC 250d in 2016. It was fully loaded with the works, as my mate was the sales manager. Yeah I did get looked after as I was then a valued client. I only had it for just over 18 months & no issues which you’d expect. It ticked all my boxes & the diesel fuel economy was exceptional. BUT, I just didn’t gel with it. So I traded it on a Skoda Superb 206kw wagon in mid 2017. Surprisingly I didn’t lose either kidney in the deal as Skoda wanted their product out there. I am still more than happy with my decision & the Skoda, to this date has been faultless. Yeah, yeah touch wood.
Water ingress, are you serious? My non premium, non prestige aging Forester has been totally watertight, no gremlins either for a fraction of the price.
Yep Mitsubishi 380 was aussie. In all fairness most if not all Australian made cars made in thr last 20 years counting down from 2017 were all pretty darn good. I have a 2013 VF Commodore 193,000km not a single issue or water ingress problem. It's criminal we stopped making cars down under. They were no bullshit simple honest cars compared to today's overpriced over complex crap. Never going to part with my VF Commodore, AU Falcon latter model owners would agree
Keep telling yourself that. I’ve lived with several Mercedes because my other half always has to have one. They’re always in for service while I never have problems with my cars and I keep my cars twice and sometimes three times as long because I plan to retire early.
My first mercedes glc 300 2016 was awesome, no issues, comfortable, powerful and smooth ride... I even did a little off roading. Driving in the winter (Colorado here) is a dream and passed many stuck Subarus during a very heavy snowstorm. Glc300 has more clearance than Subarus, is heavier so performs like a mini-tank-snowcat💖
Kia / Hyundai have a specialist suspension guru in Australia whom recieves the prototype unit with a big box of shocks/ springs/ valves etc who drives them to death untill he gets it right. John Cadogan has spoken with him. Hence my Hyundai iLoad has an awesome front end!
a good indicator is to see where they are assembled,I drive a 2018 Glc220 diesel, none of the above defects don't apply on my car,but mine is made in Germany,if in Australia check where they're assembled, the quality process is not to the same standards in every country,it can be that are parts produced in China or USA and there are not to the German standards. On other matters if u search on UA-cam there are some videos filmed inside the Mercedes factory in Stuttgart where auto parts are "selected" for Germany,China....do to quality.
I have a 350d 2018. It has 29 000km on the clock so low but it's only used on long trips. No air suspension 4x4 pack & so far no issues, same tyres it came with nearly 7 years later.
First two things I immediately thought of when clicking on the video - air suspension compressor failure, and 725.0 + transfer case fluid changes on the 9-speeds.
I have had a Mazda CX5 for 10 years. I experienced zero problem with it. I went to the Mercedes dealership decided it was time to change my car and I would buy a Mercedes GLC 300 de. I test drove the GLC. And => I am keeping the Mazda. The reason is the GLC steering wheel is similar to my wife Evoque. It is numb in comparison to the immediate feeling you get in a CX5. I live high up in the mountains. The CX 5 is agile, nippy and reliable!
Have had my 2016 Amg GLC 250 diesel 4 years with 150 000 kilometers on the meter without any other issues than a couple of ball joints replaced. Think it's really comfy and pleasant to drive. Consumption is at 5.7 liters/100 K. Can't complain
I’ve had my 2016 glc 250 with all the options and amg line without the air suspension had no issues whatsoever at 115k the only issue I have had is being lied and being ripped off by the Mercedes dealership expect to have at least a $500 mark up for no reason at all this is all done by the way they quote the job that needs to be done as well as doing random replacement parts even though they have already replaced it in the previous service and then reminding them that they have a warranty on the same part and all of a sudden you’re car doesn’t need this and many other similar stories 😊
I had a 3016 that I bought used. It had 80k miles. The biggest expense at 80K miles is the PVC system. It’s costly about 3K. I am not sure why it was engineered like that. A lot of part have to come to get to it. I lost that car in a rear end collisio. It saved my life. An F150 hit me at highway speed at a red light. I bought a new one for that reason. I now have a 3023 4matic. I love it
Current shape X3 is a much better car dynamically it’s ride handling is far superior and NVH levels are lower, plus ergonomics and seat comfort are better (even though X3 doesn’t have lumbar as standard). GLC has better cabin ambience and probably more available options (ventilation for seats, air suspension, slightly better premium sound option, elec steering column adjustment
My review 2018 AMG Glc 63 v8 43k miles, owned for 3 years ,bullet proof so far , extremely fast and practical amazing sound always leaves you with a smile, on a run 34 mpg round town 24mpg, previous car was a macan gts the glc is a monster compared ,I would say the macan was a little more involving to drive being a porsche but everytime you fire this up it turns heads with that v8 engine mimes got a capristo switchable cat back exughst so sounds even better than standard. Problem wise in 3 years ! Drivers door window switch stopped working the passenger side (replacement control switch ) £20 amazon. Battery £100 That's it , I have it serviced by a specialist independent mercedes dealer. Biggest game changer for me to advice ,change the tyres to all weather tyres it stops all the bumping and skipping on full lock completely changed the way it drives ,softer compound so it rides so much softer and smooth I went for pirelli scorpion verde yes it's a big outlay but so worth it ,if you can't afford the 4 tyres just change the fronts
after having watched a ton of your vids (1000 thanks, as they say here in norway) and done some research myself, i would never buy a "modern" merc. had one, and that was the last 1. my next car, japanese, most likely toyota or lexus. reliable, comfortable and many of the look really cool. thnx redriven, you've saved so many people so many tears already.
@@hellouser5498 you know a bunch of those 2 liters suffer from fuel injector intermittent failures, like 2010 to whatever. and if i'm not mistaken merc could never fix that issue.
If I was going to buy a car in this sector I'd go with either the Santa Fe or Tucson. Was hoping that the safety features would be done in the style of Rammstein but that be best left for a powerful German made car lol I felt sorry for poor Hullsy with the what goes wrong on the shitbox engines lol Great job guy and look forward to Sunday's video as per usual 👍.
Not gonna lie, I'm completely in love with AK. He's a phenomenal presenter. Funny and well spoken. I love the vids. So fun. I love Jim as well cuz he's such a wealth of info and presents his info so well. This channel is def in my top 5. Cheers boys. 🏳️🌈
Redriven is in my top 3 favorite automotive UA-cam channels and I can't even get half the cars they review in my country... and that's solely due to AK's humor and presentation skills, and Jim's way of explaining mechanical issues in a way that's frank and easily understandable for even a layperson.
Had a 2010 Mercedes C220D wagon for 8 years which was a great car to drive, very fuel efficient but once out of warranty things went wrong. Problems with electronics mainly requiring a scan tool to clear annoying error messages as the car would go into limp mode. Kept the car till about 300K but would only buy again while in warranty which isn’t going to happen again.
I’ve owned MB and Volvos for 25 years. I buy them 2-3 years old, low miles and usually certified. I keep them for between 10-12 years and never have any real problems until they hit 120K miles or so and are over 10 years old. Looking to buy a 2022 GLC300 now.
I changed plugs self, the wire from coil to plug can be changed and I would recommend it takes brutal force to pull old wire off plug then maybe new coil that comes with wire on 2nd 100k plug change, first 50k plug change was really too early anyway they came out looking great at .030 gap
The team at redriven I love your videos,,,very comprehensive review and mechanical advice,👍👍 Also If you ever find your self at Perth, my 2012 Hyundai i40 premium wagon is always welcome.
Funny you mention the suspension issues on the amg versions. I drove to Westside bmw today to test drive a 2016 GLC43. Had 80,000ks on it, so very good for its age. Before we even took off I noticed the button in the boot for the air suspension didn’t work. We ended up test driving it and it was like driving a go cart. Ended the test drive early. On the drive back we got a drivetrain and suspension error. When we were walking back to our car they decided to road test the gov, as it was leaving you could see the suspension in its highest setting. Went and test drove a second one that just popped up by chance when we were looking at a Volvo, and it felt like a totally different car. Had all the options, and the suspension was fantastic (for a sport oriented car). Ended up buying it, for less money than the other one, with extended warranty!
These look fancy, but my gosh can the interiors creak and rattle. I recently sold my GLE and probably my biggest pet peeve was the interior. Especially with mine having the AMG pack it just meant the rattles were amplified because of the ever so slightly stiffer springs
I had a Merecedes GLK and had to get rid of it at 126K miles. I had the "oil in engine wiring harness that can fry the ECU" common problem and did not want to fork out the $8k-$10k repair bill. I understand that this is a very common problem that affects many all late model Mercedes engines. Because the problem occurs typically after 5 years of ownership, it is comfortably outside of Mercedes' warranty and hence responsibility. In talking to a few repair shops specializing in German cars, I'm surprised that it is such a common problem and also surprised that it is not mentioned in Mercedes car reviews.
cam shaft adjust is one of the common problem for this cars, I had experience, lucky is under the warranty, and flash coolant has to have computer linked to excute 4 electronic water pump to bleed the air
People are going to be mad about the Hyundai/Kia comment, but it's true. They drive similarly the only thing you're missing out on is the refinement. I was surprised with how well the Tuscon handled.
In US 2023 consumer reports Mercedes-Benz dropped to almost the bottom just above jeep and the Land Rover. The brand has been devaluing itself and the build quality dropped dramatically over the years, it deserve the landslide.
6 years with glc43. Warranty fixed start/stop battery and leak in suspension air bags. Warranty up.. Washer bottle leaking and battery weak again. Right rear tire wears oddly fast :). Feels and looks like ‘new’. Edgy performance of AMG is still in your face. No ‘slop’.
I left the video running to grab lunch when Jim started. I came back 20 minutes later and he was still going. Sounds like just about everything can go wrong with these ones.
MG: we have three model specifications with an option list that includes dash mats, car mats and a paint colour MB: we have an option list, would you like a car with that?
Hey Guys you finally caught up with your review of the GLC … thankyou and I came to the same conclusions…. The owners get slammed by the dealers for any service related issues and the build quality is just not what they make them out to be … But still a very attractive vehicle… well said !!!
I have an old model C class and considering to change my car, not sure between upgrading to a newer C model or jumping to the GLC Class (Coupe)? If you all have any opinions would appreciate if you share.
I’m very UN- happy with my. Steering. When I steer left or right the front wheels slant is extreme. At the full turn both front wheels are 50-60% off the road! (Dry clear roadway). The wheels are skipping off the surface of the roadway. This creates loss of traction/control of the vehicle. In my evaluation; this is loss of control of the vehicle. This problem is worse when roads are dirty/wet.
Had a new c-class amg line premium plus.... engine mount went after 1600 miles, and glass panoramic sunroof creaked so badly it honestly sounded like it was going to explode. Dealer experience wasn't great either. When they took it in to repair my engine mount, the technician chipped the paint at the front of the car, parked my car half on the pavement at the front of the showroom, car wasn't washed and covered in workshop dust which resulted in a scraped windscreen as when i started the car the windscreen wipers stalk was in the active position... would never own another one.
... the one thing I would say is if you are considering a Merc, check where it was manufactured. The c-class is built in South Africa. I owned a new e-class coupe after the c-class, and the e-class was built in Germany. I had no issues with the e-class whatsoever.
Probably not getting a mercedes ever again.. have a GLC220d.. After only 24k miles had a front Dif failure. All we mostly do is the school run and rarely drive longer than 15 to 30 miles. Plus, I find the car super uncomfortable for any journey longer than 20 minutes.
Artico - 200/220d Real leather - 250/300 Sunroof rails need a mention on any panoramic roof BM need a mention easy to check Engine and transmission mounts worse in diesel but petrols can too esp over 100km V6 diesel is the pick of the crop but way more expensive because not many around. Leaking oil coolers are very common as mentioned
Regarding Apple Carplay in the pre facelift model 2015-2019: Until the Modelyear 2018, there is no option to code factory Apple Carplay or Android Auto. From the modelyear 2018 until the end of production of the pre facelift model, you can code Carplay or AA but ONLY with the standard Audio 20 system, with the COMMAND system, there is no possibility to code factory Carplay!
The most importand item at a used Merc is the oil change documentation. The utter most failures at the engine and turbo are related to bad oil. The car does also not need any oil from a DIY, it needs MB certified oil. The axis of the turbocharger does eg not run on ball bearings, but rotates freely (up to 150,000 RPM) in a narrow shaft, only with an oil film (similar to the piston). If the oil is bad or has the wrong specifications, the axle can contact the walls of the shaft and damage it. Consequence: Damage to the turbocharger, first an oil leak, then the turbo rumbles.
I used to be a huge Merc fan but I'm sad what they've become. Their new cars are awful. And if you think Mercedes will listen, think again. They don't care. So long as people keep buying their over inflated priced poor quality vehicles, they will not care. The new GLC is cheap and nasty inside. This one was at least better. The new one uses hard plastic everywhere. And half the things creak and rattle and are loose.
My mum had a horrendous experience with the 2015 GLC250d. Bought brand new for 90k, the shitbox wouldnt start 1 year in, dealer couldnt figure out whats wrong with it and my mum missed a fuckton of work because of it. Brake pads needing replacement every year, each replacement costing 1k for parts and labour. Aftersales support is worse than a non luxury brand- always running out of hire cars (wonder why, modern mercs are shitboxes that always end up in the shop), and incompetent techs who dont know what theyre doing. She sold the junker 2 years in and got a Lexus RX450h and couldnt be happier. Got it to 160k kms and absolutely nothing wrong with it before trading it in for a new NX250h. Servicing, although pricey as expected of a luxury brand, has been such a pleasure for my parents- they deliver a hire car to your house, pick up your car and take it back to you without you having to do anything. As Lexus cars share the same chassis and therefore parts with the toyota fleet (RX=Kluger, UX=CHR, NX=Rav4 etc), parts and consumables are as cheap as a toyota. Get a lexus folks if you want a luxury car, if not just stick to the good old Japanese built cars. Im keeping my Toyobaru 86 till its worth its scrap metal.
Good thing I'm in the very lucky position to drive a brand new car in this class every two or three years, so there's no hassle at all with repairs or so, since the leasing company handles all that stuff. Last one was the '19 GLC 300e. edit: As a German, I felt sooo at home with the background music in the "safety" section. 🤘 And: I haven't had any issues whatsoever with my one in those almost-three-years, but like I wrote, it's the '19 model.
Haha love the “common problem” with engines failing, worked for MB in 2 different countries over 20 years In very busy workshops and honestly I haven’t seen a single one with piston failure, there were a few with potential problems with the crankshaft but all of those were quickly recalled and engines replaced but there wasn’t a lot of them. All the other problems with the Om651 & Om642 are fairly accurate, most are costly due to labour more than components cost. I would buy one with my own hard earned money.

Air suspension takes you through corners much flatter - I found the GLC300 to roll a lot in corners - the 43 air suspension solves this even in comfort mode. I've just started watching this. And I have three hit predictions:
1. You're going to not recommend buying this vehicle unless you're mechanically minded yourself.
2. The word "s*it" will be used at least twice.
3. You're going to rummage through the sunglass holder to find out what brand of sunnies the owner wears.

Crazy how these have heck lots of issues compared to their normal W205 C-Class brothers. My Sibling had one till 193k km with a C220d OM651 Diesel Engine. Everything was running fine but his family grew and he opted to go for an E-Class W213 E350d.
"well documented problems such as the piston breaking in half..." That's pretty much all I needed to hear...
Yeah. Look, I am saying this as a German with a relative who worked as a Mercedes mechanic all his life until he retired:
Don't buy a modern Mercedes.
Just search UA-cam for any repairs or replacements. You’ll find none because people don’t have issues.
Never heard of the piston problem not seen on any Mercedes forums or UA-cam channels have had Mercedes for 30 years and my glc 250 for 6 years 😊
I feel MB stopped being a good quality luxury aspirational brand, sometime in the 90s, or 00s.
I had this conversation with my mechanic just yesterday. He reckons it was about the time they got chummy with Chrysler.
The last great vehicle was the W211
In fact, all Teutonic branded vehicles are pretty crappy these days. It’s only in Asia that they are perceived as prestigious, IMHO
Absolutely!!!!!

Burnt out pump is common on airmatic cars with leak if you leave the leak too long
Goodwill is a good point that most people don’t know about and why servicing at a dealer during warranty and just outside of warranty can be beneficial with euro brands
I’ve had cars upto 7 years old with goodwill claims with Audi, BM and Benz and only paid partial contributions for repair
Shame lexus don't make a sporty performance oriented SUV.

@@dwindeyer Yep, Nissan are very common, despite the fact they they are now crap. Toyotas and Hondas sell well and a few Mazdas.
I believe that a lots Mercedes old engines are having design flaws.but nowadays they basic fix all the defects
139,000kms isn't actually that much for a modern car. Let's see how the vehicle is at 239,000kms.
@@HardstylePete 139k km is a lot of wear and tear on a car especially when it's city driving. The majority of the kms on this car is from city driving since new, which is very different than a car with that many kms from mostly highway driving.

W210 I reckon.
W212 is an excellent car
Buy the V6 350 and the 5.4 litre (called 5.5) V8 they are the most reliable
4 cylinder engines can have same issues and other Inc stretched timing chains and cam gear issues
500 has Airmatic as standard
So look for an E350 with normal sunroof not panoramic on steel springs not Airmatic with vision pack and you won’t go wrong
E350d would be next choice heaps more torque and better fuel economy but leaky oil cooler so keep a couple of grand in your pocket for repairs
I have always thought the "4MATIC" badge cheapens this car because I think of "4 speed automatic".
German brands will always find new ways of doing things, including naming their AWD systems.

Yeah, yeah touch wood.

a good indicator is to see where they are assembled,I drive a 2018 Glc220 diesel, none of the above defects don't apply on my car,but mine is made in Germany,if in Australia check where they're assembled, the quality process is not to the same standards in every country,it can be that are parts produced in China or USA and there are not to the German standards.

Great video! For the same generation and for a similar spec, would you consider the X3 a better overall 13:48 choice?
Current shape X3 is a much better car dynamically it’s ride handling is far superior and NVH levels are lower, plus ergonomics and seat comfort are better (even though X3 doesn’t have lumbar as standard). Had a 2010 Mercedes C220D wagon for 8 years which was a great car to drive, very fuel efficient but once out of warranty things went wrong. Problems with electronics mainly requiring a scan tool to clear annoying error messages as the car would go into limp mode.
I smiled when you went to your plastic tub to find things...that is me exactly only not a tub, my whole room 🤣👍

My GLC 43 Amg has rattles when driving.
And it has a coolant smell after I park it.
Artico - 200/220d
Real leather - 250/300
Sunroof rails need a mention on any panoramic roof BM need a mention easy to check
Engine and transmission mounts worse in diesel but petrols can too esp over 100km
V6 diesel is the pick of the crop but way more expensive because not many around. Leaking oil coolers are very common as mentioned
*MB not BM product
Regarding Apple Carplay in the pre facelift model 2015-2019:
Until the Modelyear 2018, there is no option to code factory Apple Carplay or Android Auto.
I own 2017 model. Basically no problems at all. I had none of the issues described here. Fuel economy is great for 204HP (Diesel) 2T beast.
I had a GLC 250d before switching over to a C43 honestly the GLC was amazing
I used to be a huge Merc fan but I'm sad what they've become. Their new cars are awful. And if you think Mercedes will listen, think again. They don't care. So long as people keep buying their over inflated priced poor quality vehicles, they will not care. The new GLC is cheap and nasty inside. This one was at least better. The new one uses hard plastic everywhere. And half the things creak and rattle and are loose.
Great review Redriven! Will you do a review of the GLB series? Keen to see this one. Some are coming up on the used market.
I loved this vid! Can you do one for a BMW E70, guys?
Bought mine brand new and took it back to the dealer so frequently! I hated the car
I was thinking of getting the GLC 63s V8. Hence would like to know the issues. Thanks
2019 glc43 amg. 3.0 biturbo I do all my own maintenance car has 32k miles or 258mill kilometers (not sure how that works) mines black on black. Has not failed one time.
Can you do one on the first gen Range Rover Evoque? I really want to get one for some reason but I’m sure you guys can talk me out of it. 😂
DO NOT DO IT...Sorry could i be any clearer. A quick google will back me up.
