it's more than that - you aren't trying to "make it all about yourself" by saying "hey maybe the protagonist of the show deserves to have SOME type of recognition". it's a typical "let me pretend it's 100% in the other direction" idea, where it's AS THOUGH witcher was 100% of the tv shows and poor poor hirsrich was simply trying to shine 10% more light on under-served female characters. which was not the case, she intentionally nerfed geralt and put him in the background and made the background characters who are of the correct demographic the protagonists.

This is a good thing, about a year ago Warhammer hired some female writer with pronouns in their bio, with clearly a misguided perception upon reality like so many female writers in entertainment today, and when the writer for the Warhammer series was first announced people became very concerned from what said writer was posting on social media. She had roughly a year to bring forward a script, something that stayed censored from the public, likely a script that Warhammer rejected outright. Now to hire Cavill to write, direct, star in and basically alter course of the Warhammer franchise, it likely means whatever that previous "woke" writer produced was literal garbage that was tossed out.
The prequel to Game of Thrones prior to the series that was produced was rejected too, for the writer to "blow a raspberry" at the journalists asking her how she felt about her adaptation being rejected. It was a farse, these writers do not care about why these fan favorites are fan favorites, they only see the opportunity to hijack and exploit these franchises through Marxist intent and it's abhorrent to behold. The amount of profit to be made from being willing to subject the public to indoctrination in place of canon, to force "Lecturetainment" instead of entertainment, into a belief of conformity and obedience instead of liberty and freedom, it speaks volumes by itself, and it should see all these regressive writers fully rejected by the entertainment industry already.

The execs only buy these IPs as they want the built in fanbase so that they can build these franchises that they can cash in for ages. But at the same time they buy into the media (news media) rhetoric that the popular watchwords will be promoted across the board (online, TV, news, etc.). So when they received these fanfic scripts for their "adaptations" in the past, they greenlit them expecting that the media backing would silence the vocal fans opposing their shows and browbeat genuine critics by calling them racist, misogynist, transphobic, etc, for not liking their adaptations.
*_This_* emboldens writers to send scripts with no actual understanding or respect for the source material to send in the scripts believing that the media shield will protect them. They are also stuck in this situation as they cannot push these scripts for original stories as these execs are not willing to invest too much on new shows as everyone is chasing the dream of being the next MCU.
The good news is that it seems some studios are finally realizing that this tactic doesn't work in the long run and that no amount of media browbeating can make audiences watch a badly written show and at least *_some_* creators are trying to find writers/directors/producers who actually know/like the source material.

These entertainment companies can play it safe and simply make a product nobody will like and receive egregious amounts of tax payer dollars to fund their endeavors (to the direct harm of society through the blatant theft of our nation's capital and GDP that is funding our own divisive infighting to begin with), or they can hope to appease the fans during a time where "cancel culture" is promoted by those that hold the power structures through nepotism, "right think" and favoritism, where people more so enjoy watching content creators destroying these writers superficial bigotry and malice by exposing just how awful their content is as those in power, while those in power simply receive massive profits personally from our own tax dollars, from our own government funding such regressive ideals meant to subvert the people, to cause our liberty and freedom to eventually be refused by the public through such reckless propaganda, and for the people to instead demand "safety and security" in its place. No government can provide such things, to try would only cause anarchy to ensue.
Those who are given the ability to manufacture consent through social engineering and manufactured "our truth TM" pursue reverse segregation, backwards Jim Crow, a complete absence of diversity by pointing at "representation TM" (diversity of thought is the only diversity that matters and that has been fully gutted), all while those in power prepare for the majority to become the minority, and for our government to then revert back centuries and allow the evils of the past be once more repeated, this is done so that they remain hidden behind the outrage and hysteria, they retain power while the people lose their minds upon one another instead of directing their ire where it should reside. What I don't understand: you already have a strong woman written into the source material with Ciri, if you let her have her responsibilities and trust her in the games, you get the arguably best ending and fans had nothing against that narrative to my knowledge. Why switch/disregard it for a Yennefer strong woman plot and reduce Geralt's overall impact?
@nlmod See they made the mistake of being absolutely truthful about how a superficial existence of beauty, fame and power fails women over time and that to get the deep love they crave, which they foolishly sacrifice in their youth, is to have a family. A child of their own. So when life throws hardships and betrayals at you, having the love of family, of your own child, is priceless.
It's Yennifer's whole story arc in season one.
Well we can't have *that*, so in season two they make Yennifer a power hungry grasping desperate woman who would even sacrifice a younger, innocent girl, one who has the affection and protection of the man who she spurned, to an evil witch just on the chance of regaining her powers. She only stops when she realizes Ciri is super unique and powerful and important.
Not because it's wrong to sacrifice someone for her own gain.
Not because doing so would be a betrayal of the man she still loves.
Yennifer can go eat a d*ck.
They could have focused on Gerault and Ciri's adventures but now we gotta make The Witcher a cameo in his own damn series.
I watched season one 3 times (I hadn't ever really heard of it before I watched it) but season two I struggled to finish. Hated all the episodes without Gerault. Did not care AT ALL about Yennifer's struggles.
@@sarasunshinemt4444yeah the ending of season one where yennifer is coming to the conclusion that she scarified something she never should have was really intriguing to me like I was about to get to watch her go through this whole character arc of coming to terms with the things that really matter. I thought that pain would open her up and then boom she didn’t really change at all in fact it felt like she went backwards. I shared your sentiment, having not played the game I was intrigued by season 1. Watched it twice then fell asleep multiple times watching season 2 and gave up… it was horrible what they did with all the characters. But yennifer took the fucking cake on characters I wanted to push off a mountain… I thought the Ciri and Geralt as a mentor relationship could have been really cool but it felt like he didn’t really get to step into that role all that much cause God forbid a big strong man have anything to teach to a perfect girl…
Because these regressive ideologist's main fault in logic is believing women cannot succeed so long as men are in their way, thereby these writers somehow have to make Cavill incompetent, somehow acting in error all too readily and for their revised Yennefer to be morally correct, always. Ciri to be "better than thou" simply because she is female, nothing to do with Elder Blood but instead menstruation itself, and it's gotten quite tedious to see it done in literally all these "reboots" that do the same with all the beloved fan favorites. Hijack, exploit, pollute and then lecture the fans for daring to enjoy anything fun, it's the epitome of "toxic femininity."

What’s wrong with the little girl wanting to be a Witcher is that in this world people are supposed to be afraid of Witchers, whom are viewed by most as monstrous and inhuman. But instead of showing that, the first interaction we get between Geralt and a normal person is her saying how much she wants to be a Witcher and that it’s stupid girls can’t be Witchers. That is a Real World opinion, not an opinion consistent in the lore of the Witcher’s world.
They seriously put a line like that in the show?
It's almost hilarious in the books how much shit Geralt gets for being one due to "Medival open-mindness", I could swear there is a mention in the books how parents use Witchers to scare their kids while going the usual "You better not do X otherwise Y will eat you..."
Not to mention he is described as almost looking like a walking dead due to how mutations changed his body(I think the cinematic for the first game of the Witcher series got that look the closest.) which makes it immediately obvious who and what he is.

I admit he came out better than I expected, that said I still believe he's a bit too perfect. Geralt in the books was kinda ugly/rough-looking, in large part due mutations and scars yet still women found themselves attracted to him because he was emanating masculinity.
He's too handsome to be a book Geralt but enough to look like the game Witcher 3's Geralt.

@@Jo24689 Fanfictions don't necessarily follow the lore. A lot that I've run across are more "I'm going to fix X because I think it's wrong." In some cases it's interesting, because of the butterfly effects(character doesn't go into mine to fight monster because it's easier to do it another way, thus doesn't find a chunk of mithril that would have been used later to build sword and now has to fight boss with flimsy steel sword), but it can also be very grating, 'specially with self-inserts that fix everything and have no ill effects from the changes. Did one myself with a character becoming an advisor and saving the king from a poor decision and it drove a noble to poison the king.

Mad respect for Henry Cavill for departing. We need more people who not only love the source material but also aren’t willing to sit there quietly as the writers and directors ruin a series just because they get paid.
The amount of adaptations that end up like this is too common and has been going on forever.
Not to mention for an A list actor he was getting massively underpaid, granted he was still getting millions but compared to other A listers it could be considered humble.
Lets be honest, it's not only just to get paid but to push a real world political narrative
chances are he took the role on due to the universe being a passion, and accepted a paycut so his big salary doesn't tank the show before it has a chance to shine and increase it's budget. and then they moved away from the source material and it wasn't that passion project anymore, so he left. also there's a chance his deal included options for pay increases on the back end when then budget increases, but it only increases if the popularity/viewership increases, and given the decline in quality this wasn't likely.
The writers are clearly sexist, they pressed Cavill to get naked more and more in the series, to Cavill's discomfort and concerns that went upon deaf ears. This was done for 'representation,' to garner female interests by leaning heavily into the "female gaze" which somehow is treated like the opposite of the "male gaze." This was not about garnering the fans interests but instead to get women to watch with the promise of Cavill's naked body being displayed upon said content, for these women to soak their sheets. This will continue so long as "Toxic Femininity" remains censored from public discourse, the bigoted and sexist regressive ideals of these writers is truly shameful to behold. I'm glad Cavill fled, season 3 of the Witcher will be no different than the Willow series, a complete lack of interest following that Blood Thingy spin off that looks abhorrent.

Deadpool comparison is spot - on. The difference was Reynolds was basically the one creating the show and making it happen, so it fit his vision. The audience is lucky that Reynolds' vision for it was innovative but also spot on for the character from the comic. So it felt authentic and appeals in the same ways that the character appeals, but he's not just copy-pasting the plot from a 20-year old comic book, he's creating new stories and new growth and development for the character. Imagine if Deadpool had been studio run by a team like the Witcher and they're telling Reynolds to "quit your whining and just say the lines we're telling you, actor".
When Reynolds leaked the semi green screened Deadpool trailer submission to Fox that never got a green light, I was still in highschool. That was the smartest risk taken ever. Fox said no, so he let the fandom force fox to say yes. Why doesn't this work anymore 🥲
Issue with the girl in Blaviken is that no one likes witchers. People are scared of them and want nothing to do with them, there's no reason for the girl to even want to be near Geralt in that scene, let alone opening up to him. There's also the fact that girls physically don't survive the trials/mutations (even most boys don't) - can't remember if this is common knowledge in-universe, but if it is then she has even less reason to be complaining to Geralt about not being a Witcher
I was under the impresion that the process is so horrible that it even got discontinued due to how brutal it is, heck even the witchers get pissed, when they get proposed to do the ritual due to how inhuman it is
@@Juvelas3 No that's not the actual reason. The reason why they no longer use the Trial's of the Grasses anymore and subsequently why no witchers are made at all by the time Geralt is a witcher is because there was a massive attack on Kaer Morhen, shortly after Geralt and his fellow new witchers were made, which lead to the destruction of most of the witchers and all knowledge on how to attempt the Trial of Grasses. This makes Geralt and his fellow School of the Wolf witchers some of the last or the last created Witchers in the world which also means they never had to make other boys into witchers.

@@Juvelas3 Yea, I am not sure what CD Projekt Red's reasoning for that was to attempt it that way; but the attack on Kaer Morhen is the reason, for the lack of new witchers, given in the books. That's why in the books and in the games everyone, especially Geralt, kind of makes a big deal out of them being the last witchers, because they know they cannot make new ones and so they are an "endangered species" who is also still mostly hated, feared and disgusted by most people.

The problem is that they take something people have grown emotionally invested in and make it feel unfamiliar. When people have spent years reading, playing, or learning characters and you make them feel unfamiliar it disturbs people. Expect rejection when you make the familiar feel like a stranger invading your space.

@@soapbox435 Anytime you add to or take away from an already established product you are loading the gun and spinning the chamber...hopefully you don't shoot yourself in the foot.
It is also mostly about respecting the medium that you are painting with. Most people don't mind some deviance, but it still has to feel true to character and retain it's familiarity. Otherwise you are creating something that that will be unsettling to most that appreciated the original.
As for touching (adding), let's hope when it's done it's a "good touch" not the "bad touch". Which is the gamble anytime someone does such things.

@@jordanzdebski5132 Yeah but not a lot of Polish culture becomes popular and we are simply proud of this particular one. This is part of our legacy, it has Slavic vibe, tells stories based on Slavic legends and we simply hoped for a good representation of part of our identity. And what we got? Something that can easily be called a cultural appropriation. The Witcher is one of the best fantasy series ever and it could have become just as popular and beloved as Lord of the Rings got after the movies were made. But instead it was butchered and there is no chance for it becoming a fantasy landmark as we hoped and as it deserves. For Polish fans it's not just another poor tv series... It's a lost chance for piece of our legacy becoming well known and appreciated.

There's a secondary problem to Cavill's departure, that we don't look at enough: Cavill is actually a trained swordsman. Rewatch the Blaviken fight, they are able to stay with long, steady shots of Geralt going through everyone there, because the stunt-people don't have to try and make him look all that much better than he actually is. If season 4 does happen, it's going to have a lot more quick cuts in fight scenes, to compensate for differing skill levels, which means they won't be as gripping and immersive as they have been. So s4 is going to have at least one area with a noticeable drop in quality before we even get started.
Henry called up a stunt/fight coordinator he knew from Mission Impossible to come in and help with the action scenes on the show so yet another thing you can credit Henry for.
He also had some experience from his time on The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) and Immortals (2011).
And now compare it to Galadiel fighting these numenorian "trained fighters" where you can litterally see them standing around while she fights one!

The difference between Eowyn and the random girl is that Eowyn had a story and reason to be there - the girl is there for 3 seconds and her only line is a commentary on why the rules of how Witchers work are stupid - and since it has no reason to be there it seems to be literal hatemail from the Writers.

I think the point of the character is to introduce new audience to the Witcher world.
She hasn't seen a witcher before, and probably didn't believe when adults told her scary stories about them. And by the end of the episode she is completely disillusioned, and doesn't want to live a witcher's life anymore.
Since it's the first episode of the show, she could actually be a relatable character for viewers who know nothing of the Witcher universe, and think that witchers are just some cool mage-warriors. Who wouldn't want to be a cool mage-warrior, and go on adventures instead of staying in some boring village?
To be fair, the "girls can't be witchers" part is a cringe, but it does serve its purpose: it tells the new audience that in this universe only boys are trained to be witchers. And new audience might also think "but why can't girls be witchers? who came up with that rule?", because just as the character, they don't know shit yet, and have all the rights to question how the show's world works.

I mean, there's a big difference between Eowyn and that girl who wants to be a Witcher, first being that in-universe the process of mutating someone into a witcher is so hard on the body that only males have even a slim chance of surviving (and likewise, the mutations to create sorceresses skew heavily in favour of women surviving that, iirc the male sorcerers that exist have a natural ability to use magic but can't reach the same potential as sorceresses because they haven't been engineered for weilding it). Secondly, being a witcher isn't a thing anyone on the Continent wants, its not like being a knight who goes off for adventure and fights monsters (a thing that also exists in universe), being a witcher is being a "subhuman" monster without any honour because they're mercenaries who steal children. Thirdly, the first interaction Geralt has with a human in the series isn't one of loathing (for being a witcher), one of him being someone to look up to, and showing people accepting him. Geralt is absolutely not someone to look up to, and is basically only barely tolerated because he's good at what he does.
Also, side note, the Witch King of Angmar (in the book) wasn't killed because Eowyn was a woman (she was still a Man, as in human). He was killed because Merry, a Hobbit not a Man, stabbed him in the back with a magic sword that broke the spell granting him immortality and THEN Eowyn cut his head off.
The worst part of all of this is if Netflix actually stuck to the source material they would have actual mature commentary on “the patriarchy” and “racism/diversity”

The witchers themselves are another example of dealing with prejudice because they are “different” Racism is a big theme in Sapkowski’s work.

7:00 Samuel Jackson rocked as Nick Fury. He had carisma, presence even when he wasn't even talking and I didn't give a ... of the skin color. He nailed the character and was not there for diversity but because he was good af in the role.
Also a fantastic example is Charlie Cox who plays DareDevil. He absolutely loves the comics of daredevil and because of it, he plays Matt Murdoc so perfectly.
He was amazing in Stardust(whom Henry Cavil was also in). Stardust is literally my favorite magical love story movie and I always hoped he would find more big roles and he finally did.

I watched the tv series having read the books, and played all the games and it still baffles me how they messed up so badly, the had all the back lore and the stories and plots already sat there open to them.
So instead of Ciri being a child who was upset when learning magic (from Yennifer at the Temple of Melitele) and she wrecked a garden shed, we have a weird teenage hybrid who screams trenches across the landscape.
Yennifer who had a specific character arc both in the books and games leading to her becoming Ciri's mother figure and trusted by both Ciri and Geralt to always put family first we now have wanting to turn over an innocent kid to a witch.
I don't care what the skin colour of a specific actor or actress is, I don't even mind too much if they change plot lines a little bit if it moves the story along (I understand perfectly that what works on the written page sometimes doesn't work on screen), but I care about the story and the writing and they they must never change character arcs.
Personally I like Yennifers character arc in the books and games and Ciri is an interesting character but Geralt was the main protagonist, the 'hero' of the books and the games and relegating him to the role of onlooker to other peoples stories seems totally weird.

Eowyns story is not at all like the scene with the girl in the Witcher. Her arc has a fundamentally different premise. She does not want to join the army because she feels caged into the role of a woman, but because she has lost hope and thinks everyone is going to die, so if the has to die anyway, she at least wants to die in glorious battle. Eowyns arc is about her finding hope at last, and true love, not the false love she sees in Aragorn. It concludes with her finding peace and deciding to become a healer. Not with her overcoming the oppressive patriarchy of Rohan society or some other modern nonsense.
Her initial desires are treated as wrong and missguided, while the line from the girl in the Witcher feels like a meta comentary of the writers shitting on the world they are writing about.

The writers of the series really thinks they own the witcher LMAO. Theres a really good fanfic written about Witcher 3 that i recently read, its titled The Divine Hunter. Its so well written that he beats those writers in the series hands down.

I loved how "New Amsterdam" introduced, one of the gay characters, you just could not tell, imagine, the guy was a deep, cool, smart character on its own and we did not need to hear that he is gay every 10 minutes. Whats different in that scene and the one with Eowyn in LotR is that Witchers are supposed to be feared and despised in that world, nobody in their right mind would want to become a Witcher in-universe anymore than they'd want to become a monster or a mutant, and if I remember correctly there isn't a narratively valid reason for her to say that either.

Funny how the witcher 3 was all about Ciri but in a way the story was alround playing with Geralt. Basicly the main characters were inseperable and they were equally well written.

Imagine an industry so bereft of creativity and imagination that they have to adapt every IP under the sun, rather than coming up with their own, and get mad when the fans of said IP get upset that the showrunners/writers dumb down the IP and disrespect the source material...who would have thunk it.
They made a show for people who do NOT care about the IP.
As a result, not only did they NOT attract new people to the IP (because people who don't care about an IP tend to NOT care about that IP),
but also, they lost the fans of the IP because they didn't make a show for the people who actually cared about the IP.
It's all for the best. HC is going to be on a WH40K show on prime now, and is apparently getting the lead and executive producer status. He's getting his dream job, and apparently enough creative control to make the show honor it's source material. WB and NF can eat their loss. HC is going to do just fine.
His girlfriend of several years is the executive at Vertigo who is making the show... it would have been her job to put a production deal like this together. That's what he left Witcher for... not the stupid idea about Superman (though a selling point but not the reason.) Selling the idea of Cavill starring/executive producer on the show & her being the studio executive as a team... seems like that would have been a strong pitch. They have been together for a couple years but just started making public appearances together recently right before the Warhammer 40k universe deal was announced.

Warhammer already hired a "woke" writer about a year back, and the fans were very concerned after looking at her social media and commentary, her profile harboring this idiotic "pronouns in bio" nonsense as a dead giveaway to their regressive ideology superseding common sense and logic. She likely has the same mentality as the writers for The Witcher, and after a year of being on the payroll for the Warhammer franchise she must have already produced a script she had made for the franchise, a year of writing that likely was forced to remain under the radar for just how awful it was, a script which must have been outright rejected if they are now hiring Cavill to write, direct and star in the franchise.
I'd like to see whatever it was that this "woke" writer produced for the Warhammer franchise, whatever she produced in the past year at least, seriously just to know the abject failure that was planned by, yet another "woke" writer infecting the entertainment industry in order to hijack and extort yet another beloved fan favorite. These regressive ideologists posing as writers produce what they call "Lecturetainment," instead of enjoying escapism, they produce content to condemn, mock, goad and deride the fans of said franchises that are exploited in such ways, and it has happened all too frequently. The first attempt at rebooting Game of Thrones with a prequel had the franchise owners outright reject the script the "woke" writer produced, too horrid to even attempt and for that to go public. To be fair, in the mainline book series after the first two books which are a collection of short stories, Ciri and Yenn DO get a bit more focus.

that is my take on this. Yes, the show is called the Witcher, but in books called the Witched i felt like he's secondary character (especially in later ones). I literally felt like i read 100's pages about Yen doing laundry or something instead of Witcher adventures.

Only book 6&7 is focused more on ciri.
There is no ciri in book 1&8 and around 20% in book 2.
Book 5 is like 60% geralt and 40% ciri
book 3&4 are split between geralt and ciri.
Yen doesn't have much part when you compare her with geralt and ciri, even some other side character have more part than yen in some books.

If I recall correctly the first season actually did a pretty good job of following the short stories from the first one or two books. Either I’m Not Remembering that right or lots of people didn’t actually read them.

About the comparison between Éowyn and the random girl from the first episode of The Witcher S1... No, they are not the same.
Éowyn is an established, solid character with a background that we've already seen in various scenes (and read about in books). We understand her context. We understand that she wants to carry a sword and fight. We understand that she feel left out in a society that only leads men into battle. We believe it.
This random girl who appears 4 minutes at the beginning of the series has no background, we have not asked to hear from her nor is she there to contribute to the plot (or she does it in a poor way). This girl is there to introduce a political message down our throats just from the start about how terrible the patriarchy is in the first minutes of the series without knowing her at all, with an absolutely unnecessary, cheap and cringy speech and stealing precious minutes that could used to improve the plot, which was kind of weak and unnecessary confusing to be honest.
There's a world of difference between a deep, meaningful, well-developed character whose truths carry weight and are believable, and a flat, bland character with out-of-the-blue political discourse.
You care about Éowyn. You believe her speech and feelings. You have seen why she feels that way.
You don't care about this wierd town girl with less than 5 minutes of screen talking about something no one has ask her.
So no, they are not the same.

I agree but still was 0% shocked to see a young teen "tom boy" character. She didn't say anything cringe.
Also the fact that they throw that girl's line at us and Geralt just says nothing. Yes, that's sort of in-character for Geralt but the way it was portrayed felt like the showrunners wanted us to think "yeah why are there no cool female witchers?"... The thing is there are literal in-universe reasons for that. No woman survives the trial of the grasses (they tried in the passed and it just resulted in a lot of dead girls) because there are some biological differences between men and women and I am not even talking just about muscle-mass or endurance or any of these much talked-about topics. It could be down to simple things like maybe the female reproductive organs are too heavily damaged by the Witcher mutagens. They also make men sterile so there is obviously some stuff going on with those organs during the trial of the grasses, maybe it is just worse for women and causes it to be 100% lethal.
But we never get any of that, in fact they seem to have gotten rid of the whole mutagen dangers/results in the show, to the point where Vesemir, the basically father of Geralt would allow Ciri, which he knew was kind of Geralt's adoped daughter and thus his grand daughter, to take those mutagens just because "Ciri felt like it".
Overall the show dropped the ball on all the bad sides of being a witcher, compared to the books. Being a witcher seems like being the stereotypical cool superhero who helps people but gets not much love for it... where in actuality being a witcher is an endless torment. Insane training that even kills kids prior to the trial of the grasses, then the trial that you will very likely not survive, a huge amount of pain for a long time and then you lost your chance to ever have kids or a family, you are visually branded so can never blend into society again and are forever an outcast. Your whole life is just killing monsters until you get killed by one. If an angry mob of people that you previously helped doesn't hang you first.
But yeah man, being a witcher sure seems pretty cool, right?
They did the same thing with sorceresses and mages too though, the automatic end of your fertility is a major thing for them, because it signifies that they will never have family and their own kids (adoptions aside) and so can or rather have to focus only on magic and power because that is kind of the only option they have left. In the show witchers and magic users are all just generic fantasy spellslingers without any of the special, gritty flavor that Sapkowski gave them.

I agree that it's not the same as eowin. However, I don't agree that the scene doesn't add anything to the story because at the end of the chapter, we see the truth of her character when she turns on geralt proving that she's wiling to NOT "be more" and "stay in blaviken for the rest of her life" after all, as long as she doesn't have to face the reality of what the world is outside the walls of blaviken, where she has people looking after her and she's safe (safer than outside at least). I'm pretty sure it was not the intention of the writers to subvert their own message, although you might argue that it reveals the hypocrisy and inconsistency of the woke mindset, but in any case in my opinion it made the situation interesting.
Henry being a Witcher nerd even gave them advice about certain things from the books because he cares.

Season 1 was so good, I watched it when I was living in S Korea and shared it with all my friends. Everyone agreed Henry is the best, so tragic the writers fucked up what could have become an iconic series.

The thing is with most of these adaptations, if you remove the source material from existence and say it's a new IP they are decent shows. But what's happening is people are taking amazing source material and changing it to something that's worse and that's what people are pissed about.

One is a woman who can fight and wants to fight and proves that she can at the most critical time.
The other is a woman who wants to be a Witcher and can't based on the universe's established rules, in that she would almost certainly die in her attempt to become a Witcher, in the trial.
In The Witcher books, females don't survive the Trial of Grass, as I recall. Even the males, only have 30-40% chance to survive.
Sure, Ciri was trained to be a Witcher, she came close but she never took part in the trial, therefore Ciri was not a Witcher.
There is NO comparison there. One was part of the original story, the other was current era attitudes placed into the story with no respect to the lore. Nerdrotic knows this and that was his point.

At 28:08 he says that it was in the book, but that scene where the girl is talking to Geralt is in fact not in the book or atleast not from what I read about a year ago. There is actually quite a bit that was changed about that story from what was shown in the show. The biggest change from what I remember is that the aldorman, who from my understanding is the leader of Blaviken, actually had a role in that story and was actually quite friendly and helpful towards Geralt and he even helped Geralt discover what Renfri and her gang were up to while in the show I don't remember them showing him at all.
I even checked now if the girl was in the original story and she wasn't so that's interesting.
Imagine this: the entire first season is just Geralt doing witcher stuff, we get to know what the world is like, with all the racism and shit, and how witchers aren’t really liked, they’re barely treated like people, but they’re needed to slay monsters.
We do the whole thing with the first episode/chapter, but this time we can focus more on Geralt, and we do the chapters into episodes like in the book. We call the first season “The Path of the Witcher”
Next season, we introduce other important characters, like Ciri, Yen, Triss et.c. Now we focus about half of the show on them, and the rest is Geralt-time or Geralt with company. We learn of THEIR hardships, et.c. Since we already got to do so with Geralt in the first season, and the story really kicks off.

A lot of what made LotR successful was they handled the lighting on characters to match the CGI of characters being inserted. They were very careful about using very limited CGI as well which helped keep you immersed in the movies.

The movement is on to woke up or feminize what is considered to be male romance. Romance, not erotica. I think instead of remolding these stories around other genres, they should balance them with other kinds of stories while allowing others to enjoy these types of stories as they are. We like them how they are. Some of us just aren't afraid of male culture. There's no need to demonize any of it. Just let it exist side by side with other options. They just can't because these stories always make the bucks.

The problem with the peasant girl wanting to become a witcher is that the scene completely misrepresents how witchers are perceived by society. They are viewed as cold-hearted killers who take your children and subject them to horrifying mutations. The process is so brutal that only 3/10 boys survive and it often leaves them with unintended side-effects like mental illness and stunted emotions. There's a reason why Geralt didn't subject Ciri to it, no girl has ever survived it. Not to mention that witchers are a dying breed because the process is slowly being lost to time and most witchers don't want to keep the brutal tradition going.
The writers could've had the peasant girl dream about becoming a scholar, warrior, or a sorceress instead but they just didn't do their homework. This is the first episode and they barely explained anything about witchers or how they are created. What little information the viewers get as an introduction to this world is mostly misinformation. What a shame.
