Menopause really is trying to kill me. My mind is going nuts and my mental and emotional states are made worse by many things on my plate to handle daily. I am fatigue all the time, depressed and body aches and stiff joints. Thankfully I am now on HRT and I am looking forward to feel human again.

Although this is sad news for someone with otherwise healthy wisdom teeth removed years ago, something in my power is the reminder to breathe deeper while awake & aware ☯️

UAR has been a nightmare for me and there was a lot of delay in diagnosing it. Patients with these problems should also be studied by a maxillofacial surgeon, 3D imaging studies can reveal a narrow airway and sometimes orthognathic surgery can help. That's why I asked you to make a video of the results with orthignatic surgery (not the technique). Thanks again.

This topic is well covered in the upcoming documentary, Airway Documentary, for which I was interviewed. Although MMA is the most ideal option for UARS, it's usually a long route with multiple evaluations and interventions before considering this procedure by an oral maxillofacial surgeon. Plus if you don't have a moderate or worse sleep apnea diagnosis, it's much more challenging to have it covered by insurance. If you have UARS with no sleep apnea (despite stopping breathing sometimes 20-30 times per hour), there's no chance at all of coverage for a very expensive procedure. I'm still mulling over how I can do a video on this topic, perhaps surgical options for UARS.

I’ve often wondered if sleeping in a noisy environment such as on a city block with traffic and sirens might also cause stress on the body leading to micro-arrousals during sleep and daytime fatigue.

Yes, ambient noise is another major documented stressor and fragments sleep, but if you have an underlying sleep-breathing problem such as UARS that keeps you in light sleep all the time, then any noise or movements can wake you up more often. Being a "light sleeper" is one of the hallmarks of UARS. I'm always in awe of young children who can sleep through anything, due to their high levels of deep sleep.

Doctor Steven, what are your thoughts about methods to measure airway volume vs doing sleep tests and those results?
    For context and some numbers:
When I was younger I had bad crooked teeth. Orthodontist pushed my upper palette backwards and pulled 2 teeth out to make it fit.
I got a recessed jaw and chin and some assemetry since my upper palette is rotated. so I went to a jaw surgeon in a private Clinic. There they measured my airway capacity. It was: 13088m3, 508m2 and minimum of 86mm2. Since its a private Clinic they may be biased to sell me something. They also diagnosed my with a deviated septum. When was looking into studies I found that 86mm2 isn't that severe but also not that good.
I also had 2 wisdom teeth removed that were entirely rotated. The root was almost pointing upwards.
After that I went to my insurance and insurance medical specialists and they did a sleeptest where they measured if I woke up during the night and oxygen levels. Everything went fine and I didn't get a single diagnose. Not even the deviated septum. The measured like me waking up a few times, but it was far and far under the official threshhold to get the diagnose.
I am a male in my middle 20s with average weight who sport frequently. Since I know these values I have the feeling I get choked lightly 24/7 and I notice when I close one of my noseholes I got trouble breathing through it, however when I block the other nose hole it's fine.

i definitely have sleep problems and i am certain I have sleep apnea. I am young and thin and started having problems after my wisdom teeth were removed.

Sorry to hear. Unfortunately, I hear this quite a lot. When people with very small mouths get their wisdom teeth removed, the jaws and airway get much smaller and sleep quality goes down. The more number of teeth removed, the bigger the problem. Did you talk with your doctor about this? Unfortunately, there's no easy way to fix this. You may need extensive dental work and/or even jaw surgery. Many soldiers get 4 wisdom teeth removed before deployment and end up having severe chronic fatigue or PTSD due to worsened sleep.

@@doctorstevenpark does this even apply to people who have impacted wisdom teeth?

    • @Dandelion_flight
      @Dandelion_flight Рік тому

@@JH-lz4dh Yeah I am wondering about that too because it may decay and pass the rot to neighbouring teeth. But the best is to keep any teeth.

@@doctorstevenpark I am so shocked how removing teeth can lead to sleep apnea. I have had some molars removed because they got a bit mobile and causing discomfort when chewing. Dentist never discouraged me to leave them alone and extracted them at my request. Many years late found out removing teeth will affect stability if all teeth as they support One another and also there will be bone loss. All these no dentists tell us. I learnt all these by my own research these years. Now I really try to preserve every single tooth I have. And I actually realise when we use our teeth well, the bone get exercised and can actually become stronger, even mobile teeth can become less mobile.

Is it possible to need Septoplasty but then it no longer being necessary once jaw surgery (to fix recessed jaw) has been performed or can jaw surgery not resolve a septic deviation?
