So true about the knot in the shock leader causing a hesitation in the cast and contributing to wind knots. Some spinning reels are more prone to wind knots too. I had a lot of wind knots with the Penn Pursuit II 4000, and noticeably fewer with a Shimano Sedona 4000 and a Spinfisher VI 4500. Not sure why.

If you need a spool washer, making one from plastic gallon of water/milk works! Just the right thickness 👍🏻

Could you guys do a slow motion of a wind knot? like when the line lays over the top of the spool and then the next cast is when the wind knot happens

It doesn’t hurt to cast your line out for the purpose of tightening your line. I cast it out every 12-15 casts to keep it tight. Just work it in quickly with the pole down and the line in the water to give it resistance. Don’t be surprised to get a fish with this maneuver.

When surface lure fishing you WILL get wind knots. It's the nature of the game when using braid unfortunately.
There's lots of slack and tight line using this type of fishing. The best way to avoid wind knots when using top water lures is to go back to mono line.

Another way to reduce wind knots, is don't use braided line.😆
