Thank you for the hook guide and clear explanation you’ve given in this video. I like your talking/speaking pace (that’s not too fast) which makes it really easier to understand and grasp what you’re talking about. 👍
Size information here is only relevant for the USA. For other countries they do hook sizes differently. In Asia small hooks start at a size 1 getting bigger up to normally size 20. Then the 1/0 hooks are about the size of a size 15 normal hook but the gauge of the hook is increased. A thicker gauge hook is stronger but will go blunt much faster than a standard gauge hook.
After watching that underwater footage of the trout folding the bait as it strikes the lure. I wonder if a shorter shank hook would actually be better in that application. Anyone have any experience trout fishing artificials with shorter shank hooks?
Great job. I couldn’t figure out why my hooks weren’t matching. Didn’t realize that hook will vary by manufacturer. I can pump the breaks on my OCD now!
with two scales for sizes you can always have a large/smaller size no matter what the number is. with only one scale you run out of sizes on the low (or high) end and have even more confusion about sizes between brands
Great video but unfortunately, what you find is manufactures do not agree on a standard and therefore you'll find that sometimes they stick to construct of say a #1 hook being larger than a #2 for example but in other cases the reverse is true. Alas, you'll need to verify the size before purchase. I will say though that reputable companies do stick to the universal definition of hook sizes.

Tony your speaking/talking pace is greatly preferred. Thanks so much
Just think of it like years…. The numbers get smaller until year 0 then the numbers get bigger. 2 BC is older/smaller then 2 AD

Hey Tony, my question is how far should the hook be into a Slam Shady? Not sure what size is best for different length baits.
I just got some catfish hooks the other day and I went and got one of each side from 3/0 to 7/0
Thanks for sharing!

Glad it was helpful!
why didn't they just make the hook sizes in order to make everyones lives easier(rather than having a 2/0 and a #2)?!
