I am 60. Been using tretinoin, vitamin c and sunscreen for two decades. Last year I added estrogen cream. I mix it with my tretinoin and apply to face at night. Vitamin c and sunscreen in am. It has helped the quality of my skin immensely.
I might worry about mixing it with the tretinoin. I know that there are some ingredients in some formulations that should be layered because they may be ineffective if mixed. I'm not saying that what you're doing is wrong, but I don't know if anyone has looked at the the compatibility between tretinoin and estrogen and their delivery vehicles, so if it were me I would layer instead to be on the safe side.
Ok I was afraid to admit that I started using vaginal estrogen cream on my face too. I thought that if it was good down there than it is good up here. This doctor just confirmed my hypothesis

I have used estriol cream on face for about 2 yrs . I'm now 49 menopause @ 45 ½ :( I am very happy with it. Plus tretinoin several yrs vit c & sunscreen far longer
Additional comment I started retinol eye at 28. In 30s adapalene in 40s low low dose tretinoin. Worked my way up. My dermatologist says no reason for me to go above.5. Said no increase benefit just irritation at 1%.
I got braces in 1973. When I got my retainer, I was told that I had to wear it no matter what, and I did obey. However, my retainer was made poorly and it pushed really hard on one of my front teeth so I got an injured, and now I have a discolored front tooth. It hurt but I was told it was nonnegotiable and I knew that braces hurt when they tightened them but I only had one tooth that hurt and I wasn’t taught to use my mind and speak up when something seemed right. Welcome to the days of “be a good girl.” my bottom piece did not have any teeth pulled and I had a built-in retainer from the inside pushing out for seven years. When they took it off my teeth went back… The tooth that had been Twisted 180° is no longer twisted but it’s crowded. I guess that tells you that my 1973 orthodontist didn’t have the information he needed to do a good job.

Wow wow wow! Thank you, Dr Casperson for introducing me to Dr. Gender!❤ This interview was soo packed with amazing information! I’ll definitely be listening to it twice! Keep up the great work!
Great info! So much more to find out about hairloss and if the estradiol patch will help or not. Please continue to help us with this! Thanks for your videos!
I kept waiting the whole episode and you even asked her if some thing about hair and skin didn’t get addressed, and neither of you mentioned red LED light therapy which is all the rage for both hair and skin. Maybe you can drop a comment here for all of us wondering about this.
I got the mito plus 3.0 about 6 months ago. It does make a difference. One of the best $350 I've ever spent. Consistency is key. I use it 15 minutes at a time, 5 days a week
It’s true that the best sunblocks sunscreens are from overseas, that’s another good Google and it’s a fact actually that they are not allowed here at least yet. I think that is a problem and I do not agree with her saying that zinc mineral sunblock is not as good as chemical. It’s better it’s like putting an umbrella on your face, but you have to use enough and I use enough a lot. If I go out, I don’t go out much these days as life has changed, getting older and having arthritis. But if I do, I use a mineral sunblock if we get them from overseas, I will buy it when they’re approved and on the market here.
Very brilliant discussion! Everything i wanna know and ask my dermatologist now answered truthfully by Dr Gendler ❤❤ so informative and amazing and I am so thankful!!
Question about minoxidil for hair growth. Is it true if you stop using the medication once you start, one can expect to experience more hair loss than before starting the regimen. Thank you for all you do to enlighten us in such a challenging life transition. Trying to navigate, embrace and celebrate this phase and Drs like you give me hope! You are the best!
I am prone to milia and it's soooo annoying. I have a few around my eyes but they aren't really noticeable. It makes me very leery of certain products on my face due to this. But I am definitely trying an estrogen cream on my face. I am 48 and was pregnant last year (sadly lost the child in pregnancy). I haven't been told that I am in peri-menopause but it seems to be dismissed that I could be going through it since I still have periods and was pregnant last year. I also have PCOS. I am pushing to see a urogynocologist as I also have interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome. My psychiatrist actually told me about this channel here on youtube and I am so glad she did!!
That's a really good question and a really good point. I love your show all the points, but I'm at the end of your video right now about the systemic estrogen for the recession of the jaw. I recently was covered for a top teeth partial. I didn't know how big of a difference it would make in my face and my jaw. TMJ I feel like putting out quotes with all these things that seem to improve with Estradiol, huge, run-on sentence, but I will not be covered for the bottom, partial until next year and my face is trying so hard to correct itself evenly lol . I wonder if any of this made sense but I can tell you what does make sense. You are off the hook. I've learned so much and I've only listened to four of your informative videos. So thank you so much for keeping the truth coming😎💗
I use a little bit of my vaginal estradiol on my face in particular areas and top of my hands. Whole body care is important and that includes my face. Thank you for this video!
I started using estradiol, very low dose under my eyes, then got carried away, started using it all over my face and forehead & gave me melasma & hyperpigmentation but no wrinkles!!
Thanks for the information I never took birth control and I'm 55 now. I've been using some estriol on my face for I don't know maybe on and off the pass couple months and I've never had a problem with melasma or hyperpigmentation except for one summer like 12 or 13 years ago I got a little bit of a hyperpigmentation on my cheek when I was water skiing all summer. It went away with my skincare routine, but other than that I use vitamin C and all kinds of other skin care items.... and of course sunscreen daily.. the melasma issue with estrogen is a concern for everyone, though, I suppose.
@@caroldoan-p3o I follow shereen idriss who is a dermatologist on you tube who had a video out on hyperpigmentation and so I went to a compound pharmacy, as I could not have her products sent to the country that I live, and made what she suggested ie a glycolic acid and lactic acid exfoliating toner, an azelaic acid 15% cream. On nights where im not exfoliating I use tretinoin and then I made a whitening serum with alpha arbutin, kojic acid, niacinamide, liquorice root, resveratrol, azelaic acid & green tea followed by vitamin C serum THD 20%. I also put very little estradiol cream under the eyes. That is just my nighttime skincare routine in the morning I started following the anti pigment eucerin line and I have been doing this now for about a month and I have seen great results. All my pigmentation is fading.
I remember when those lash serums first came out and I did notice that although the lashes looked longer in the after picture, the eyes looked just awful. I didn’t understand why anyone would want to use something that made the eye area look older and unwell.
I mix castor oil estrogen and one drop of dmso to improve absorption on the back of my hand and then applying on face and neck. Noticeably improved skin quality!
I had permanent retainers put in after my braces were taken off when I was a teenager & I am SHOCKED how many women I talk to 30s-50s haven't heard of that option. Best decision my mother made though I hated it at the time.
My eyebrows totally fell out during menopause. I used pencil for awhile but it became a pain and they come off if you sweat or go swimming so mine are now nano-bladed. The girl who did them is very experienced and they look natural.
Absolutely fascinating guest, and so knowledgeable. So much great information in such a short time. And I loved the question about systemic estrogen’s possible role in maintaining our jaw structure. What an interesting idea.
I loved this discussion about skin! Dr. Gendler's recommendations are similar to those of Dr. Doris Day, another NYC dermatologist who recently appeared on a podcast with Dr. Gary Linkov. Dr. Day said the research involving exosomes is promising and she singled out two brands- Plated and Elevai, whose quality she endorses. She didn't speak as highly about DNA repair enzymes which surprised me. I've been using Photozyme every day for 3 years and love it, along with daily heliocare supplements.
I use minoxidil on my eyebrows. I apply it to an eyebrow brush once a day, sometimes twice if I remember and some days I forget altogether. However, it’s a TOTAL game changer.
Cerave and eucerin are great I use the tinted. There is Korean that is great too. Follow Dr Dray on utube ahe. Has so much on sunscreen she is board certified derm. There are so many that is good. But it comes down to what you like and what works for you.
Comment about hair loss-I take biotin and saw palmetto - my hair has become so thick that my hair stylist commented. Friends have noticed. I take lots of supplements, but started those specifically for thinning hair. I was taking spironolactone for post menopausal acne and that didn’t help my hair growth on my head.
the dna enzyme brands they listed have spfs. they aren’t always cheap but it is the cheapest way to get dna enzymes and you can reduce cancer from forming.
Drives me nuts when people give off about preservatives. I'm like "so you want to chuck everything out after a few uses?" because that's the reality without preservatives.
People in the US are deficient in antioxidants due to poor diet and processed "foods". This is making more people susceptible to many of these things, particularly free radical damage from the sun.
I'm with you! I used the topical Alloy brand estriol .3 percent each day for nearly a month and my face turned nearly orange with melasma. No one warned me. All the videos mention nothing about the risk of melasma with these creams and yet if you dig deep with google, you can find a lot of mentions.
I read somewhere that systemic estradiol will be taken up first where it’s most needed in the body and skin may not be a priority. Not sure how true that is, but it did make me decide to put a small portion of my prescription for Oestrogel on my face and back of my hands. My prescription amount pretty much covers half of my body anyway!
Thoughts on spironolactone & interstitial cystitis? And if prostaglandins have caused hallowing can estrogen under the eyes & tretinoin help? Thoughts on Stem cells in skincare? Loved this episode. Thank you!
I had ultherapy 3.5 years ago… I have extensive fat loss and sagging… It has really affected me physically and emotionally… Any suggestions on what I can try besides a facelift? Thank you
just my feedback. I used Plated exosome serum (lower dose) after my facial surgery for 3 mo. They said I had one of the best scars they have seen. Did the rest of my face change…not really but I liked it for scar recovery.
My nails returned to the way they were, if not even stronger after taking a 5$ biotin from Amazon. I disagree completely with her that it doesn't work. I only changed that and within 4 weeks they weren't breaking anymore. My nails are beautifully strong again 🎉
I’ve been taking nutrafol oral supplements. I’m sure everybody’s heard of them and my hair is still on my head. I have hair loss. I stopped using minoxidil because it really irritated my scalp and made my hair like hey! Just like straw because it would seep into my hair if a foam, but even the way my hair grew out it was really wiry and dry and awful, I stopped using it two months ago and my hair initially fell out a lot but now it’s just like it always was even well using minoxidil. I might go back on it because the thinning in the front I see through to my scalp just a little bit I might even get those things clip in the back of your head for God sake anything to give me more volume lol. Biotin gel tabs which is the best way to take them by the way …not in powder form! But looking back Didn’t do anything for me. The neutrophil is making my nails grow like crazy. I just wish I had pretty hands, but I’m not getting my powder dips anymore. My nails do not break or anything. I think it’s helping my hair and helping my nails…. I should say extremely helping my nails it’s unbelievable. I’ve been on it for many many months now and sometimes I get off of it if I forget to re-order that will only be for like two weeks or less but basically since last March I have been taking it. So if you want nice nails, use this stuff so help me God! Kind of expensive but if you got the money, try it it does have a little in it but it’s a powder form. The gel caps are the only way for this to help if you’re using biotin, as I said, my sister is a doctor integrative medicine and that’s the only bio available way. It really works if it does for you everybody’s different.
What do you doctors think about Sebaceous Hyperplasia? I've learned that only a dermatologist can remove these things and that growth factors can cause it. I was using Perricone's growth factor face cream about 2 1/2 years ago and a year and a half ago I got this sebaceous hyperplasia on the bridge of my nose and nothing will take it away. No amount of Trentinoin, glycolic acid, lactic acid, any acids or exfoliation, nothing, and I'm thinking I'm going to have to see a dermatologist. I checked with my Kaiser dermatologist and they said there's nothing that can be done for that... it's not cancer so it's cosmetic and we're not going to remove it 🙄 PS I use Timeless Skincare Vitamin C with ferulic acid which is said to be comparable to SkinCeuticals and then I use a South Korean sunscreen which is absolutely fantastic, 50 spf., very nice under makeup and inexpensive.
@StayGold-Michele~which sunscreen are you using? I have such a hard time finding creams I can stand to have on my face-esp SPFS. Some end up feeling like I just applied a dry cleaners bag!! I’ve used several Korean products & have seen sunscreen…just haven’t bitten the bullet.
I'm on estradiol patch & was wondering how much estradiol cream to use on my face, so thanks for this podcast. Was also wondering about DNA repair enzymes...so expensive, though.
Certainly surprised that Dr E Gendler did not mention vitamin D deficiency as a (major?) factor in hair loss - and do easy to rectify. Good talk. Will do a deeper dive into my skin care. Have just started using vaginal oestrogen still in my 2 week 'slathering' and will add a touch to my under eyes. Thank you ladies.
I'd love to have aging orthodontist specialists with research so our hard earned money is not wasted or us being guinea pigs. I've been told I need braces and yes, my bottom teeth are crowded and I certainly don't want to lose bone density. I'm needing another tooth pulled and do an implant. Scary!
Me too… i’ve been postponing two dental implants over 10 years now because I cannot tolerate ibuprofen. I cannot tolerate pain drugs and when they did my left side on the bottom, it was very painful. It’s such a complicated thing expensive but it’s important. I’m losing a lot of bone actually I’ve lost a lot of bone. They’re probably gonna have to put a cadaver sliver in there which I find really disgusting but I’m 67 1/2 and I want to keep my bone structure. I have osteopenia because my father had osteoporosis. It’s familial and I also take stomach medication which do play apart in causing bone depletion I’m only taking Pepcid now so even though I double up per doctor order and because I need it desperately, that doesn’t affect the bone loss as much as proton pump inhibitors like Nexium, etc. I don’t have overcrowding. I need more teeth and I am OCD about my teeth. I just was born without two bottom teeth that never grew back. Long story! One dental implant isn’t bad too yes it was hard for me, it’ll take months to grow back the bone if they do it with the granules. I’d get my dental implant done and over with if I were you good luck.
Very interested.. having a hard time getting my doctor to write a RX .. not sure why . My insurance covers it . Thank you 😊 please let me know how I can get it
Good morning! I have a question. I use an aging repair cream from Musely that contains Estriol. I also have Premarin cream from my doctor for vaginal dryness. I’m post menopausal. Can I use both products? I want to use the Premarin under my eyes only.
Eyebrows....caster oil organic in glass bottle ...mine were Grey and thin ,some black hair grows back eyelashes got thicker. Barbara oneil recommended it. Just rub or wipe a dab on your finger eye lid and brow.
I’m 67 1/2 and I’m not too late to the party. My skin is pretty good. I had an early menopause and it’s thin and I see things happening but I’ve been using it now. I guess maybe two months or so maybe a little less it well vaginal estrogen cream estradiol 0.0 one percent, you’re never late to the party, girl!
Is topical estrogen cream recommended for women with melasma? I understand the doctor directs patients to use it only in the under eye region- would that be safe for people with existing hyperpigmentation? I think my understanding is that eyes are the only parts of my face that aren’t discolored😂😢
My body always made too much free testosterone. I had to go on birth control pills. I had to do fertility drugs. That’s what led me into the bioidentical hormones because I was desperately trying to have kids, but they told me I had to stay on it for the rest of my life I got so sick and I had to come off, I guess I was at the wrong point of my life but now I really am scared of getting dementia. Phone loss issues.
They all have websites. Dr. Gendler mentioned Photozyme and Neova. I have both and love them. And Photozyme has frequent sales of 20 percent off, sometimes 30 percent off. Just sign up for email notifications and stock up during sale time.
Should women who've had breast cancer use estrogen cream on their face? I went through menopause 10 years ago and have never taken or used hormones. I survived breast cancer 7 years ago and am 65 years old. Thanks
If you're allergic to dust mites whixh many people are you'll have an allergic reaction to it. I have a bad dust mite allergy and didn't know why it was causing a burning rash. Arg!
I took bio identical, hormone creams, and progesterone pill for 17 years. I had nothing but major constipation and gut issues. Is there anything else I can do? I’ve been offered for a couple of years, but the insomnia is still kinda bad.
I am no dr.but did u ask if a lower dose would be o.k. cas I bet it would work fine . I make my own cream using very little and seldom and it still works .
If I use an estriol cream on my face should I use a progesterone cream, too, to help balance it out? I'm low in progesterone but don't have overt symptoms.
I have an estriol/estradiol cream that I sue a tiny amount on my wrists and inner arms daily in the morning, it has been incredible what a difference it has made (I’m peri menopause still have periods but can be erratic). I’m interested in using it on my face, can I swap from the wrist area to face and still get good enough absorption that it will still do all the other good stuff or is it just for a superficial skin improvement treatment? I don’t want to use more than I do now as it makes me feel odd if I use too much.
When I used it melasma broke out within 3 weeks so I stopped using the estiol right away and used my usual skin brighteners and it went away pretty quickly. I think everyone is different. Skin is so individualistic.
The melasma from topical estrodiol is concerning 👀 Curious if using HRT and topical on face is the reason ? Curious what type of cream used on face, the amt, frequency or duration ? Did they use sunscreen, chemical or mineral, use it consistently and what dosage ...two finger length amt ? There are so many questions, so many variables to consider. I'm looking forward to solid scientific documentation as it sounds promising for skincare 🤓👌🏼
For hair loss you should really do a urinary iodine test from Hakala labs. Most people are deficient and anytime I have iodine my eyebrows and lashes and baby hairs start growing back.
Age 60. Treated for hormone positive breast cancer on close to my third year on Letrozole. My doctor allows Intrarosa for vaginal atrophy. Is this a no-no for me?
She should speak of the dangers of going blind when put Botox or fillers in the wrong place, around nose for example. Or warn about necrosis. Skin literally dying. Example the chin. Patients are not warned about complications.
Mineral based, and zinc oxide gives the most protection. Having tried many, I use Madara SPF 30 tinted mineral sunscreen as it's not drying, doesn't leave a white cast, gives a bit of coverage and has clean ingredients. But it may only be available in Europe. I also like PAI British Summertime SPF 30 for similar reasons, but it doesn't give any coverage and isn't tinted.
Why won't anyone who is pro-estrogen cream cover how it affects melasma? I trust Dr. Casperson's opinion but she never covers this topic and doesn't interact with her followers so she doesn't answer questions. I won't ever use it until people start addressing this.
I am 60. Been using tretinoin, vitamin c and sunscreen for two decades. Last year I added estrogen cream. I mix it with my tretinoin and apply to face at night. Vitamin c and sunscreen in am. It has helped the quality of my skin immensely.
Oh didn't think to add it at night. I use mine after Vitamin C. Maybe I'll switch,
Do you use estriol or estradiol? And do you apply it to face and neck?

They also used to say that breast reconstruction was unnecessary esthetics. That had to be fought for at the state and then federal level.

How do we know whether a sunscreen is good? Are there brands to look for?
Yes! Would be great to have had a few recommendations
Cerave and eucerin are great I use the tinted. There is Korean that is great too. Follow Dr Dray on utube ahe. Has so much on sunscreen she is board certified derm. There are so many that is good. But it comes down to what you like and what works for you.
She always recommends La Roche Posay Anthelios uvmune 400, the European version. She says it has the best filters on the market

Comment about hair loss-I take biotin and saw palmetto - my hair has become so thick that my hair stylist commented. Friends have noticed. I take lots of supplements, but started those specifically for thinning hair. I was taking spironolactone for post menopausal acne and that didn’t help my hair growth on my head.
what's the dose of saw palmetto? I took that briefly but it didn't seem to help my hairless. I take biotin, Viviscal, silica and omega 3-6-9

Peptides and ceramides are needed to. Especially for older skin.
Drives me nuts when people give off about preservatives. I'm like "so you want to chuck everything out after a few uses?" because that's the reality without preservatives.
Yes your right.
Most Preservatives are toxins that you put in your body....I do not want any of that ....for sure!

People in the US are deficient in antioxidants due to poor diet and processed "foods". This is making more people susceptible to many of these things, particularly free radical damage from the sun.
Not a single mention of melasma from topical estrogen. That's the primary concern I've heard about and its not insignificant.
I keep saying this same thing on every youtube video I watch about estrogen cream. Only one channel has chosen to touch on this topic.
Does it give people melasma?
I'm with you! I used the topical Alloy brand estriol .3 percent each day for nearly a month and my face turned nearly orange with melasma. No one warned me. All the videos mention nothing about the risk of melasma with these creams and yet if you dig deep with google, you can find a lot of mentions.

By this age wouldn’t you know you were susceptible ?
Love this! Thanks so much for all you do. Can you please link to the studies Dr. Gendler mentioned?
Awesome show. You are both incredible sources.

If you use systemic estrogen doesn't it help all your skin? Because surely transdermal estradiol would go to everywhere? I don't get why not?
I read somewhere that systemic estradiol will be taken up first where it’s most needed in the body and skin may not be a priority. Not sure how true that is, but it did make me decide to put a small portion of my prescription for Oestrogel on my face and back of my hands. My prescription amount pretty much covers half of my body anyway!
Most fda approved doses are low.
Makes sense
It may help your skin, but there are more risks. Best to take estrogen transdermally.

My nails returned to the way they were, if not even stronger after taking a 5$ biotin from Amazon. I disagree completely with her that it doesn't work. I only changed that and within 4 weeks they weren't breaking anymore. My nails are beautifully strong again 🎉
Didn't do a thing when I tried it . Maybe works for some .
I've heard gelatin works to strengthen nails 💅🏼 TY for sharing about your success with biotin
I use Timeless Vit C its fantastic

I’d get my dental implant done and over with if I were you good luck.
amazing, thank you both so much

Is topical estrogen cream recommended for women with melasma? I understand the doctor directs patients to use it only in the under eye region- would that be safe for people with existing hyperpigmentation? I think my understanding is that eyes are the only parts of my face that aren’t discolored😂😢
Many people get brown discoloration from blood vessels around the eye skin.
On some podcasts they warned that estrogen cream can cause melasma and a rash in others.
My body always made too much free testosterone. I had to go on birth control pills. I had to do fertility drugs. The melasma from topical estrodiol is concerning 👀
Curious if using HRT and topical on face is the reason ?
Curious what type of cream used on face, the amt, frequency or duration ?
Did they use sunscreen, chemical or mineral, use it consistently and what dosage ...two finger length amt ?

What sunscreen should we buy? I wanted to know that.
Mineral based, and zinc oxide gives the most protection.
