So glad you guys finally dived into the Young Rascals! "A Beautiful Morning" , "Good Lovin", " I've Been Lonely Too Long" , "How Can I Be Sure" and "People Got To Be Free" are some of their really good songs.
All great, and "Good Lovin" is more of a rocker than their others.

They started out as the Young Rascals and even wore attire that looked like the original Little Rascals, but they dropped the outfits and the name Young and just became known as the Rascals. Might have been due to trademark concerns.
Many radio stations in the way back would start your day with their "It's a Beautiful Morning."

Bobby Goldsboro was one of the single artists in the 60's. He had the song of the year in 1968 "Honey" and quite a few hits including " With Pen in Hand"," Summer the first time" and more.
Finally! The Young Rascals and later just The Rascals. Please try A Beautiful Morning. It always put me in a great mood. Love it. Love them.

The Rascal did some great songs. They should do a Jersey Boys 2 about this and Strongly Suggest "Good Lovin'" "Beautiful Mornin'"
As far as more Blue-Eyed Soul music from the 60's, you should try another Jersey band The Soul Survivors and "Expressway to Your Heart".

They recorded in Spanish and Italian too eh. These version are incredibly good. They add a touch more romance to the song. Highly recommended.
They have a hole host of great songs . People got to be free , it's a beautiful morning, used to start my days with that one .
to me with the lyrics its like spending a lazy day togeather maybe on a picnic or strolling through a filed of wild flowers or by a lake on a spring day

Love this number one from 1967.The rap duo A Lighter Shade Of Brown sampled this in their 1990 hit On A Sunday Afternoon.

Yes' that is a real live harmonica played by the band's lead guitarist. The song got plenty of airplay on Black radio during the 60's. The group was heavily influenced by R&B in case you can't tell. They were blessed with two wonderful lead singers. The one you heard here was Felix Cavalieri also known as the soulful Sicilian. Eddie Brigati who sings their song" How Can I Be Sure" is the other. That one is also worth a listen.
The great Smokey Robinson said this song inspired him to write "Cruisin" some years later.

One of my friend's older sisters dated a guy that was on tour with them for year. Said they were great people. Dino Danelli on drums, Felix Cavalieri on keyboard and vocals and Eddie Briggitti on vocals. Can't remember the name of the 4th guy.
My very 1st concert. 7th grade, took my friend for her birthday. I wore a dress that came with matching pantaloons!! LOL!!!! 😜🤣

But if you want to try something really different... I mean, REALLY different... try Richard Harris's "MacArthur Park."
So many great 60's songs. Try these three--Colin Blunstone (lead singer of the Zombies), Say You Don't Mind and Her Song. Also, Dusty Springfield, Windmills of Your Mind. She would be great for Female Friday.

Y'all need to react to The Osmonds' song "Down By The Lazy River". And speaking of the young rascals as opposed to the little rascals there's also another 60's group in that theme known as Spanky and Our Gang with hits like "Lazy Day" and "Sunday Will Never Be The Same". I'm betting the Osmonds would really surprise you.

One of the iconic songs of the sixties was the Rascal's "People Got to Be Free" from 1968. 1967's "How Can I Be Sure?" was also a big hit for them. A big hit song with kind of a similar message and feel as this one was Simon and Garfunkel's "Feelin' Groovy" from 1967, and another sixties song with the word groovy in it is the Mamas and the Papas' "Somebody Groovy" from 1965.
The Harper's Bizarre version of Feelin Groovy was better in my opinion since it became a hit and was longer than the Simon and Garfunkel version. Of course kudos to Simon and Garfunkel for writing such a great song.

Felix Cavaliere, the songwriter and usually lead singer of this group, had toured in Europe in 1963 as the organ player for another group and guess who else was on the bill? The Beatles! Felix took one look at that and headed back to the States and put this band together. Lots of great songs in the mid-to-late Sixties: "I've Been Lonely Too Long," "A Girl Like You," and "People Got To Be Free," among others.

They were dudes from Jersey, 3 out of 4 were Italians!👍🏻😃 If you can catch the live performance of them on The Ed Sullivan Show doing, "Mickey's Monkey" and "Lonely Too Long" you would really see how they were one of the greatest live acts of that era!✌🏼🙂
Oh yeah, saw their live performances on Ed Sullivan. What high energy w/ just 3 instruments! Sounded better singing live & they set the bar quite high. Luv'd Felix's rockin' soulful vocals, Eddie & Gene's harmonies, & of course Dino's dynamic drumming!

Thanks for the reaction. The Rascals were some of the dukes of 60’s “blue-eyed soul”. They were first The Young Rascals, and then they dropped the “Young”, and just were “The Rascals”. And as so many have commented, they have so many gems in their catalog. Enjoy!

One of my favorite Rascals songs of all time (BTW, by the time Groovin' came out, the band had dropped the "young" from their name and became simply The Rascals) is "How Can I Be Sure?", as well as their biggest overall hit, "Good Lovin'".

Yes, that's Gene Cornish on the harmonica. This song came out in the Spring of '67. Graduated high school and entered college that year. Whenever I hear it I think of those carefree days. Did lots of groovin.......not just on Sundays.
The Young Rascals (later, The Rascals) was one of the great groups of the 60s. How Can I Be Sure is their most beautiful song. When their first hit, Good Lovin', was released in early 1966, I was in 6th grade & the group has been well-played on the soundtrack of my life. Another great song, People Got To Be Free, was The Rascals' entry on the long list of protest songs of the late 60s. Great group to hear again. And again.

When I hear "A Beautiful Morning " I'm transported to my mom's kitchen. NYC, mid-summer 1968. She had a small table radio there and that song was in heavy rotation. We didn't have A/C, the windows are open and the air was warm with it's own early morning smell. It was going to be a hot day, I was on vacation from school, and the day held many possibilities.
They also went by the name 'The Rascals.' I think you'd like their song 'People Got toBe Free,' not only because of the lyrics, but there's a great horn section in it too.

Yep, harmonica. They come in different keys... check out videos by Blues Traveler...John Popper has a vest made just to hold all his different harmonicas. Oh and in Neil Young's live version of "Heart of Gold" he's actually talking about having to find the harmonica with the proper key for the song.

"Groovin'" (1967) reminds me of "Cruisin'" (1979) by Smokey Robinson.
Smokey was inspired to write Cruisin after he heard Groovin.
