I was REALLY excited for you to get to this song. It is one of Wilson's most epic creations. And you're right, it was AMAZING live. The band was as tight as you can ever imagine every time I saw it, never missing a bit. Wilson doesn't hire "slackers" for his band by any means, although Craig Blundell was close for a while but he pulled his act together in a major way VERY quickly after being close to being fired. This song was always the end of the first intermission, so yes, taxing as you observed.

Man, this album is ridiculously good. Much like a Pink Floyd album, it won’t completely “hit” you until you listen to it front to back in a sitting.

Your enjoyment of that was palpable! Great reaction Dean. I've seen this live several times and it is amazing, great version on live at the Albert Hall concert from 2018. Wishing you a Happy New Year.

Great track! You were quite animated for this one, and it was a joyful thing to see this first day of the new year. We even got double horns from you. 🤘😀🤘
    Loved it!

He is a genius. But comparing him with John, idk man. Two completely different styles, techniques and personalities.

So glad to see a reaction to this song, as much as i love the haunting and raw instrumental section that comes after 5:30 the first part of the song i just can't put into words how it hits me like a truck, one of the most powerful songs for me

This is one of my favorite songs on this album and their is one cd he did that is a dual album were a lot of the songs are like this called Grace for Drowning where its like creepy jazz. I think you would really like it and should react to that album. I feel like that album flies under a lot of peoples radar. This is Steven WIlson quote on this cd from wikipedia.
"'Insurgentes' was an important step for me into something new. This record takes that as a starting point, but it’s more experimental and more eclectic. For me the golden period for music was the late sixties and early seventies, when the album became the primary means of artistic expression, when musicians liberated themselves from the 3 minute pop song format, and started to draw on jazz and classical music especially, combining it with the spirit of psychedelia to create “journeys in sound” I guess you could call them. So without being retro, my album is a kind of homage to that spirit. There’s everything from [Ennio] Morricone-esque film themes to choral music to piano ballads to a 23 minute progressive jazz -inspired piece. I've actually used a few jazz musicians this time, which is something I picked up from my work remixing the King Crimson records"

Been waiting for this one :)
I said it earlier already on older videos but you should definitely check & react to the live performance from the Royal Albert Hall.
On the release of Hand.Cannot.Erase this was not my favorite track on first listens but it slowly became one of the most important ones. The second part of this song is just brutal and on the RAH gig those guitars were punching trough my body & soul :)

      Yes! 100%
The Royal Albert Hall version of this song is my favorite version. It's incredible to see them play it live. A whole different experience.

I have a very vivid memory of seening this live at bospop in the netherlands. Steven was the headliner, and Dream Theater came before them on the main-stage. I spoke to some people and most were hyped for DT but didn't know Steven or Porcupine tree but I felt the crowd going wild.
I have seen Steven wilson live a dozen times, but this one was one of the most amazing concert experiences.

I'd still like to see a Pain Of Salvation reaction.
Maybe a full album reaction to 'In The Passing Light Of Day'

oh, for sure. It just takes a little time to get to all these bands. I heard new music from 50 bands I'd never heard before in 2020 on my channel. And despite that, there's still many to go.

Was waiting for your reaction to the first guitar solo and you did not disappoint. This is a really progressive piece with some huge contrasts masterfully merged - a real illustration of what prog can and should be - so ideal for your channel. Your air drumming is improving too! The air flute still needs a bit of work though!

It seems like a good album, I did not know it!
By the way: Nice to see Peter Gabriel's "security" cover on the wall (my favourite Gabriel album)

Much of this song reminds me of Fracture by King Crimson.

I missed Theo Travis in the live version. I think the flute adds an important element.

It seemed like every guitar solo I heard on this album I said that's the best guitar solo I ever heard, & I absolutely loved the guitar solo on Drive Home from the Raven Refuses to Speak album. Love the guitar work by Guthrie Govan, especially on Steven's albums

Guthrie is great. Kind of a studio musician isnt he. Not a member of any one band exclusively like Howe or Lifeson.
