Gavin Harrison is on of my favorite drummers. He has the chops, but plays with great taste.
Agreed
This entire live album/performance is a masterpiece you have to listen to all of it in your free time
The studio version has a guest guitar solo by Alex Lifeson (the Rush one). You'll be able to tell which solo is his. In fact, you kind of identified it here (though, live, John tended to do a lot of improvising on his solos).
It's not as good as the solo on drive home by steven wilson solo played by Guthrie a better gutair player than liveson
@@austin5732 really? It's nothing to do who is a better guitarist mate. They are both very accomplished players.
But if you want to compare, check out Alex's solo on La Villa Strangiato live version on the album Exit Stage Left. You won't hear a better guitar solo than that and he did this live!!!
Guthrie's solo on the song Regret #9 is pretty choice too.
@@ibd1977 they are both fine guitarists, i agree
@@deanwolfechannel check out some Ayreon, you will love it.
Tbh the improvisations kinda kill the solo for me, the original is so great, and here it just sounds awkward
6:02 funny you say that, because in the studio version it's actually Alex Lifeson playing that solo.
Will do studio version next
I never get tired of hearing Gavin's perfectly precise drum fills.
Hardcore TOOL fan here. PT is quickly moving up my list of favorite bands. This is the song that drew me in. Trains and Arriving Somewhere but not Here, sealed the deal. Spiral out everyone!
To add to the pile, if you haven't heard it already, you'll love The Sound of Muzak ! That was the second song (Trains being the first) that really dragged me in :)
Ok then
Cant really put into words how much I love this. Heard it hundreds of times and still adore it. What a band, what a song.
Hi Mr. Wolfe! My favourite song from Porcupine Tree. Truly a masterful performance from Gavin Harrison on the skins. I believe he is also one of the three drummers from King Crimson in their latest lineup together with Pat Mastelotto and the third guy who I can't remember the name of?
Currently, their third drummer is Jeremy Stacey. He replaced Bill Rieflin, who unfortunately died of cancer in late March this year.
Amazing performance! Glad you reacted to this!
The guitar solo that you said was like YYZ reminds me of Don't Fear The Reaper. The drums in that section are also similar to the Don't Fear The Reaper solo.
I love this song from PT. Thanks for reacting to it.
Some great bass on this track
Oh man! Just started the video, I'm so excited to see what you think!! Glad you chose the live version!
This guy with his calm demeanor and all also lost it at 13:00. Haha
I really recommend their track Shesmovedon from their Warszawa live album. Probably my favourite solo of all time.
By far my favorite PT song! I honestly love the studio version better tho, idk why, this is a killer performance not taken anything from it tho,
This is my favorite Porcupine Tree song, and the people who recommended you listen to this live were absolutely correct. In my opinion, it sounds even better than the studio version. For a different flavor of modern progressive I strongly recommend Cellar Darling - Death from their album last year. It's a lot different than a lot of the stuff you've been doing lately, but I think you will still love it.
I know this live version is worshipped but personally it for me it just almost matches the studio version in quality. For me the studio version is definitive. Punchy and perfect.
i love your shark.
also, check out "sound of muzak" by PT.
thank you for the reaction!
React to Hatesong from the same concert. It's on youtube also. Gavin Harrison goes nuts there
I CAN'T AGREE MORE!!! God I hope he does the live version of Hatesong, that is one of my all time favorite performances by anyone ever
That's actually from a different concert in Chicago. Absolutely brilliant though.
Peter Hamer does a great cover of this one.
Awesome video!!! I'd suggest for you to react to a very recent symphonic/fusion prog band called Stratus Luna; they have a video on their channel of their song "Onirica" recorded live in studio which is fantastic!
Funny, I had the same experience with YesSongs. Got it first and then didnt like the mix on the studio version afterwards.
if you want to listen another Porcupine tree prog songs, i recomend you "Last Chance To Evacuate Planet Earth Before It Is Recylced" "Signify" "Sever" "TIME FLIES (Live)" "Even Less" "Rusia on Ice" "Lightbulb Sun" "Drawing The Line & The Incident & Your Unpleasant Family (Live)" this are some of their best for me
thanks, ok, its on my long list!
THE INCIDENT! YEA
It's not often you see a bass player change guitars mid song.
I hadn't noticed that until now :}
I didn't catch that
@@deanwolfechannel It's a very brief moment, I think you may have had your eyes closed at the time.
I think this version is better than studio, tbh 👌 Don't know if you're familiar with the band Nightwish, but the song Ghost Love Score-Live from Wacken. Is a must!!! Phenominal song and the vocalist Floor Jansen will blow your mind! It needs to be the live version from Wacken. Let's get some more women rockin' up in here. 😉
I like your shark! Highly ferocious.
Listen to Cheating the Polygraph on this album
Please react Transatlantic "The whirlwind"
I hear a lot of people saying this version is better than the studio recording. I disagree just because 1. the first solo doesn't have the same feeling which is why I like the studio one more (and also Alex Lifeson, the guitarist of the greatest band ever) and 2. the guitar tone in the heavy parts doesn't sound as good to me live as it does in the studio version
What's the headphone you're using? Great video man, Porcupine Tree has been one of my favorite bands lately!
hmm...i've been asked this a couple times. I should put it in the description box from now on! it's a wonderful and comfortable and great 'true' sounding pro headphone for mixers etc but nice all the time....K712 AKG reference headphones.
Since your a Yes fan, I'm going to recommend that you check out the cover of Roundabout by a heavy metal band called Allegaeon
I've never heard anyone cover Roundabout, I shall definitely check that out!
I think Steve looks cool too.
In the lyrics does he say 'cod' philosophy? What is that, exactly, not familiar with the term.
I wondered that when I first heard the song. It's another term for this: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudophilosophy
Bonnie the cat
Gavin Harrison is so underrated. Neil Peart loved him and this band. He also loved The Mars Volta.
Gavin is not underrated at all. He is a very famous and prolific drummer and influenced modern drumming a lot with his books on displacement.
12:41 no it's not.
ok, i need some education then
Way out of here live by Porcupine Tree! Also the studio version of this has Alex lifeson playing the solo hence the YYZ vibe
good song....but overrated. Sound of Muzak!!!
