Most mobs in minecraft uses the same basic AI for navigation which is super easy to break, and mojang is too busy adding "content" like wolf armor to bother fixing the broken general-purpose AI that gets mobs stuck everywhere.
This is exactly what I was afraid of when I heard the armadillo winning. I knew that in order for the additions to make sense they would need to either entirely rework dogs, fix creepers, or give the dogs plot armor. And knowing Mojang they went predictably for Plot Armor, instead of fixing their game.
Literally. Instead of teleporting, increased movement speed when they start following you would solve the problem. Higher jump and better path finding to avoid hazards as well. Hostile mobs especially creepers are literally better at path finding and avoiding hazards.
I really like the idea of wolf personalities, but for your idea of having them roam your base without wandering off… how do you propose they do that? When everyone’s base is a different shape and size, how do you propose the dog knows when it’s in the base or not. Furthermore, though this is probably an easier one, how do you propose a dog know if it’s inside or outside? I really love your concept and I hope they implement it, but I’m just pointing out that a few of your suggestions have glaring holes in them
Add a Dog/Cat bed. Use a lead on your Dog/Cat, then click on the bed. That bed is now assigned to that Dog/Cat, and they have a radius they can explore around the bed.
i mean, how do villagers work? they don't leave their village, but you could say they have a job block and a bed they sleep in at night so fair enough. mojang should probably add like bowls, the treat bowls or whatever. and even so, it's not that hard to program a wolf into it's space, like mobs pathfind unique to their environment, so should wolves.
Same AI as an iron golem for wandering, but preferably with a lot less range, also should decrease range on iron golems because they wander way too far off and get lost as is.
as some smart person from different thread stated, there is a variable called "sky light". It essentially means "how much natural light reaches this block", which could be used to define indoors/shades/caves/whatever else.
New Wolf personalities seem like an amazing idea, I have a few more ideas that mojang could add. Firstly they could add a brand new wolf "movement mode" sort of like the current "follow" and "sit" modes but instead its a "scout" mode where they roam around your base. with this they could add a dog bed where it acts as an indicator of where your base is, you can place it indoors or outdoors. if the dog bed is indoors and the wolf is more of an outdoor wolf the wolf could play sad noises on the door which indicates that the wolf wants to go outside. maybe even add a new pet door? so mobs can't go inside but pets can freely go through. What will make the "scout" feature useful though is if a mob is present, more aggressive wolves would growl and even bite mobs but run away until you actually attack the mob then they would actually acttack them. And more skittish/passive wolves would make whimpering noises and run towards you for protection. Aaaand Maybe another feature they could add is hunger to wolves. that would make players pay more attention to wolves. So for example they a player makes a wolf sit, if the wolf is hungry they would stand up and try to find you and make whimpering noises to let you know they're hungry. if they strave they die (obviously lol)
I suppose pathfinding can be fixed a bit for simple things like jumping over chasms. But complex behavior seems programmatically impossible in a game like this - how do you define "indoors"?
maybe the area around the owner's bed, or instead of making them sit, you can define the block that they are standing on as a center of a circumference, which defines an area that the wolf consider as "home"
We kind of already have a mechanic like that in the game....prior to 1.14, villagers worked using doors. For a door to be valid it had to have sky light access on one side. The other side was considered "inside". So it is possible.
Thinking about it, here are other examples of major weaknesses with mobs that involve A.I... • Villager-based farms in general. • Ranged mobs ignoring entities blocking the target, even if it is an End Crystal or cross-fire mob that will retaliate. • Being able to bait slimes(and sometimes skeletons) into hazards. • Skeleton infighting. • Being able to cluster mobs around a creeper, then blocking, one-shotting an entire group of mobs. • Mobs fighting other mobs outnumbered. • The Wither hovering above a player; this makes cheesing the Wither with End Crystals way easier. • Nullifying mobs as hazards using boats. • Bats.
To be fair, skeleton infighting is always fun to witness / initiate. Enemies should have flaws that the player can exploit to their advantage. Although it would make sense come to think of it that the AI should be a *bit* smarter on hard difficulty, sorta like how some enemies in Terraria gain extra abilities in Expert mode. Jellyfish can temporarily shield themselves and reflect melee attacks, zombies can wield their own arm for extra range / damage, skeletons can throw bones at the player, the Eye of Cthulhu goes into phase 2 much earlier and has a rapid dash ability that would catch classic players off guard when switching to expert for the first time, and so on.
Greg: i dropped the dog from 100 blocks. It survivor. Then from 200. It survived. Then i did what any nowmal person would do Me : drop it from 300 blocks? Greg: no. *I built a death cannon*
I think a new addition could be a sniffing mechanic. If you give it an item, it will immediately begin taking you to the nearest mob (within reasonable distance) that drops that item.
I really like the personality range idea, and I think it'd be cool if some dog breeds were more likely to have different personalities, such as, just a random example, Forest Wolves more likely to be extroverted (happiest when outside or with other dogs), while Snowy Wolves are more likely to be introverted (happier when inside and by itself)
I love the slider idea for ai. Applying it to all mobs would be cool but then they have like a baseline or preference depending on the mobs or locked ones depending on mob.
I feel something that could be useful in future updates is a thing that can revive killed pets or animals. If the animal has a special name and dies, you would be able to use lapis to resummon them. Would lean more into the magic side of Minecraft. Also less heartbreak
I- I did not know pandas had a literal "personality" mechanic. Hell I forgot they even existed. Man this is exactly what the problem with MC is, they add cool new things, but still don't update old stuff from the past that should've been fixed already.
@@dexaphobia8085 i dont personally like that because then your dogs are stronger fighters because they basically have more health. But with pet beds if they die, you cant use them until you go back to base.

Spiders are giant and attack you on sight if it's dark but are totally chill if it's light. Dogs have a mystical link to you (the same one that lets you see their death messages). Realism has never been a part of this game. Compaining about "realism" in the fantasy block game is what got the firefly removed.
I… really don’t see the problem with the wolf armor. I’m glad the armor breaks and the damage doesn’t carry over to the dog. It means you get a chance to jump in and save them before they can be killed once the armor breaks. It gives you a warning. And the teleporting isn’t really an issue either. Sure, it’s unrealistic, but who cares? It’s a game.
It's a bit interesting that a wolf can now solo an Iron Golem The main issue is that it doesn't stop death from Lava, and you now need to carry scutes on you, deal with many annoyances like getting into cracks, or just fighting a random mob I don't want to have any risk at all, so I just sit them at home like a normal person does
@@glauberglousger956 I personally don’t really have an issue with the lava. If I use wolves, it’s on the overworld, and lava isn’t too common on the surface. I’m also the kind of player who loves fighting hoards of mobs, so I’m not bothered by the dogs going after them. At the end of the day, I guess it comes down to a difference in preference and play style.
Instead of looking at a single feature and going "Yep, we're adding that!" They should make updates centered around updating entire systems, mobs etc. Imagine if we also got reworked Pet AI (Nothing too extravagant, literally just more wolf-like behaviour, tweaked stats and the ability to not stand still on Magma/Cactus blocks)

You know what they should’ve added to tamed wolfs? They should’ve added 3 click function on them. Example: Clicked to sit- after a while of just sitting, they lay or do other laying positions, or just sleep. Clicked to follow-Not much different, but at least fix their ai following/direction command. Clicked to roam- A third feature I think would be cool. Like an iron golem mostly roaming around, but still within a village. It would make the dog more dog like to roam around.
@@ShortSkullDog its because people dont really know how AI in games and especially sandboxes work, they think its so simple and easy. I make mods for minecraft, and I've game-dev'd. They are far different and can not be compared in terms of AI. You can't simply "Improve" minecraft's ai, it has to be applicable to the way all mobs function and move. Other games can make these realistic AIs cause they have preset world nodes to send to the AI whilst minecraft can only go off of wild variables and conditions. With that, the AI does fantastically even compared to some node-based AI models.

The issue is that wolf armor doesn't fix anything, because wolf AI still sucks ass and will still get them killed by the same lava and water situations that always kill them. There's also still no reason to even bother getting a wolf.

Another one I just realized is a major path-finding weakness... Dripstones.

Summary of old Wolf Armour: Works like Clash Royale shields.
I think a new addition could be a sniffing mechanic. If you give it an item, it will immediately begin taking you to the nearest mob (within reasonable distance) that drops that item.
Seems cool
gerg needs to go on his villian arc
I think he already is on it
I really like the personality range idea, and I think it'd be cool if some dog breeds were more likely to have different personalities, such as, just a random example, Forest Wolves more likely to be extroverted (happiest when outside or with other dogs), while Snowy Wolves are more likely to be introverted (happier when inside and by itself)
agreed. I'd play more if pets weren't just glorified statues
And I will continue seething!!

It doesn't matter how good they make wolf armor, it should've used the turtle scute to begin with
Adding personality to wolf is quite a valid suggestion i hope to get added.
2:05 pov: you’re trying to increase the word count on an essay.
I love the slider idea for ai. Applying it to all mobs would be cool but then they have like a baseline or preference depending on the mobs or locked ones depending on mob.
Its actually a great Idea I'd love to see it added aswell
WELL NO SHIT THE ARMOR WONT PROTECT IT FROM DROWNING!!!!
New wolf AI would be nice but if that die than is will be much sadder
Edit: thank you for 42 likes this is my most liked comment ever
I feel something that could be useful in future updates is a thing that can revive killed pets or animals. If the animal has a special name and dies, you would be able to use lapis to resummon them. Would lean more into the magic side of Minecraft. Also less heartbreak
Exactly, they really feel like something worth protecting and being with. They would really be pets. :)

I-
I did not know pandas had a literal "personality" mechanic. Hell I forgot they even existed. Man this is exactly what the problem with MC is, they add cool new things, but still don't update old stuff from the past that should've been fixed already.
I was expecting this to be a giant nitpick but these actually sound like problems that need to be addressed
Easy solution is pet beds/respawning. They will respawn sat down ofc.
Good idea.
Maybe a collar with a totem of undying
@@dexaphobia8085 i dont personally like that because then your dogs are stronger fighters because they basically have more health. But with pet beds if they die, you cant use them until you go back to base.
@@kyleyoung2464 thats fair, it’d be fairly pricey until you get a raid farm though.
And you could argue by that point itd be the only thing that makes wolves relevant to the late game.
It would have to require some very hard to get item though because 1000 respawning wolfs will cause alot of issues
While the AI would fix most of the problems with wolves, just being allowed to enchant the armor would make a huge difference.
The damage part of this video is simply a man not understanding shield/damage gating.
No wolves were hurt during the making of this video

The most important feature should be the ability to pet the dog
I had no idea pandas have personalities, that's crazy. WOLFS NEEEEED this
Yeah, AI issues in all animals need a big fix.
According to my brother they should just have one update where they just polish the current game
When this update was added, i went out at night, splashed my wolf with strength and speed, and a few minutes oater, there were no skeletons around me, and any zombie that dared to attack me would meet the same fate.
One thing I would like is for Wolves and dogs to be two different creatures like ocelots and cats
They aren't? How?
They're still wolves after you tame them, they never become dogs. So it's not needed.
Local youtuber is mad that wolves are now actually useful
Spiders are giant and attack you on sight if it's dark but are totally chill if it's light. Dogs have a mystical link to you (the same one that lets you see their death messages). Realism has never been a part of this game. Compaining about "realism" in the fantasy block game is what got the firefly removed.
So in summary, the wolf has a shield from clash royale, got it
I find it funny how the best pet, is also one of the worst pets.
There's only two possible pets and the cats are way worse

You can even enchant the wolf armour with unbreaking 3 to make the durability last longer then default
I don't trust Mojang to do the wolf personalities but I hope a mod developer sees this video and is inspired, I would download that in a heart beat.
The “use in case of IRS” sign got me rolling
This personality traits is so much cool.....mojang should add this so every mob...slowly but surely

Me about to make the most utterly diabolical army of wolves known to all of Minecraft:
So, what I should get from this is that...
All sucks, life sucks?
This is actually genius, i dont think iv every seen a minecraft idea this good
I… really don’t see the problem with the wolf armor. I’m glad the armor breaks and the damage doesn’t carry over to the dog. It means you get a chance to jump in and save them before they can be killed once the armor breaks. It gives you a warning. And the teleporting isn’t really an issue either. Sure, it’s unrealistic, but who cares? It’s a game.
did you even watch the video?
@@SnoFitzroy I did, yes.
It's a bit interesting that a wolf can now solo an Iron Golem
The main issue is that it doesn't stop death from Lava, and you now need to carry scutes on you, deal with many annoyances like getting into cracks, or just fighting a random mob
I don't want to have any risk at all, so I just sit them at home like a normal person does
@@glauberglousger956 I personally don’t really have an issue with the lava. If I use wolves, it’s on the overworld, and lava isn’t too common on the surface.
I’m also the kind of player who loves fighting hoards of mobs, so I’m not bothered by the dogs going after them.
At the end of the day, I guess it comes down to a difference in preference and play style.
@@SleepySeal121minecraft aint nun play style its all big number axe go brrr
Instead of looking at a single feature and going "Yep, we're adding that!" They should make updates centered around updating entire systems, mobs etc. Imagine if we also got reworked Pet AI (Nothing too extravagant, literally just more wolf-like behaviour, tweaked stats and the ability to not stand still on Magma/Cactus blocks)
Who would pay for thT
1:55 Actually, Minecraft player max health is 20, meaning you would have 19.998 health ☝️🤓
Pets in minecraft just feel like trophies or decorations rather than a friend, a rather depressing parallel to the real world.
Worse yet, mods that use wolf AI for custom mobs are garbage. So much garbage. So much garbage and theyre proud of their creation based on a core of poop.
An ARMORED CORE
Man, I want Mojang to see this so much
That's how I always feel when I watch these videos. If I could only force Mojang folks to sit in a room and watch these, because they're just so true
Something tells me he wasn’t a good Wolf owner in Minecraft. Should have been more like Pewdiepie.
for higher damage to wolf i think wolf armor is kinda like a totem for wolf
so even if something did 1 billlion damage to wolf it'd still survive

having wolfs walk around your base would be so cool

I don't really mind the AI, I think it's ok to have a pet that's just there for decoration. To me, they don't need to be useful, they just need to be fun. And I think they're fun.
They are also useful and a fun companion for your adventures and combat.

You know what they should’ve added to tamed wolfs? They should’ve added 3 click function on them. Example:
Clicked to sit- after a while of just sitting, they lay or do other laying positions, or just sleep.
Clicked to follow-Not much different, but at least fix their ai following/direction command.
Clicked to roam- A third feature I think would be cool. Like an iron golem mostly roaming around, but still within a village. It would make the dog more dog like to roam around.
Sooo.... the dog armor... protects dogs?
jeez, someone call up mojang!!
Yes. But like doggy teleportarion, it's pretty much just covering up a bigger issue with their AI. (Also it is insanely over powered but I digress)

Wolf armor at first didn’t live up to what we wanted, but now it HAS been fixed. You’re just nit picking that fact for engagement now.
The issue is that wolf armor doesn't fix anything, because wolf AI still sucks ass and will still get them killed by the same lava and water situations that always kill them. There's also still no reason to even bother getting a wolf.
Explain the clickbait
