More & more I am finding, that making my own dairy products is not simply easy, (cottage cheese, white chaddar cheese, butter, ricotta, sour cream) but tastes immeasurably better, & is much better for you. This is a fantastic video. Short, sweet, & to the point. Thanks for sharing this!
Don’t knock it until you try it, but! I grew up with my grandma preparing us a bowl of applesauce with cottage cheese dollop on top. Cheese pairs really well with fruits. I understand for some who have texture issues that this would be gross to them but I insist you must try it. So delicious!
I'm in my late sixties. I didn't grow up eating cottage cheese. I'm afraid to even take the first step of tasting it. I want to make it my goal this year.
I am Addicted to cottage cheese and canned pineapple slices!!! I mean fresh pineapple is def better but it's much quicker to open a can.... The addiction is real! 😭
I'm def going to try this! I bought some cottage cheese not too long ago and didn't look at the label. OMG I wasn't sure what all I was eating! This looks clean and easy to make.
Yeap, I usually use yogurt or sour cream instead of heavy cream… tastes much better, adds healthy probiotics and I also feel it helps to keep longer in the fridge…
Those hens know how to make actual cottage cheese...which this is not. It's almost a cross between cream cheese, ricota and cottage cheese. No real curds. I'll stick with then hens.
The liquid is just water and whey protein. It used to be thrown away as a waste product until they figured out dumb people would buy it as a health supplement at inflated prices.
The "water" is called whey. In this case, acid whey since vinegar was used. When rennet is used to make a cheese, it's sweet whey. Whey can be used in any recipe that calls for water or broth. Just remember acid whey will taste different than sweet whey, so experiment with the tastes before making anything with the whey.
It seems so easy, I don't see where I could be going wrong. I am using full fat milk, a thermometer to 120°f, and following the steps precisely. The only deviation is making a half recipe but the milk is hardly curdling. Nothing like yours. I tried adding more vinegar and letting it sit for an additional 30 min but still disappointing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
If you are using ultra pasteurised milk (UHT ultra heat treated), it won't work. Just use regular cold pasteurised whole milk. I did it and it worked perfectly.
Glad to hear you gave it a try! It might be that the acidity of the vinegar is different or the vinegar to milk ratio is different. Next time you can try using less vinegar ( and add little by little) or use lemon juice instead. Let us know how it turns out!
Hi there, great question! It is quite similar to ricotta, but ricotta is a bit creamier and slightly sweeter than cottage cheese. Give this easy recipe a try, and let us know what you think about it!
@@castinajig if you would've ever tried making cottage cheese this way you would know that heavy cream DOES NOT make farmer's cheese into cottage cheese. Cheers!

I really enjoy a bowl of cottage cheese and oats with some real jam on top

I love cottage cheese with selfmade berry jam, or with grilled pear and honey!
My grandpa loved Cottage cheese and homemade canned Peaches and is still a go to for me.

That looks way better than what I buy from the store. Looks more like ricotta.
Great! Easy to understand and as simple as possible process! Love it! Thank you!
Wow! Who knew cottage cheese was so easy.
Its curd.
Indians
People who live in cottages, probably.
I just tried the pancakes. 10 out of 10. I didn’t think they would taste so good. But I will never make them another way again!!
I make ice cream with cottage cheese! Delicious!
Hmm… interesting
That actually sounds delicious
Never thought of putting it on toast! I usually just eat it like that!
Soo good on toast with a tomato slice too
You nasty asf I’m sorry
Same lol or with fruit and granola
Is heavy cream half and half or whipping cream???🤔 😍👋Thanks 👋
I love cottage cheese with pico de gallo.
Instead of cream, stir in sour cream at the end. It also works to rescue bland store brands.

Wow that's awesome, thank you for sharing this ❤
It is so easy thank you for sharing this
It is easy AND delicious, enjoy! How did it turn out? 😁 - Diego
It's so easy! wow!
is there any difference between Paneer and Cottage cheese aside from having different names?
How much do you get out of 4l milk?
Does half and half work ok as an alternative to the heavy cream?
Is it necessary to add heavy cream at the end?
Hi! did you turn off the stove once it reaches 120F and then let it rest for 30?
Hello! That is what we did :)
2 thumbs up, especially for not babbling for 20 minutes like these old hens on youtube. 😂
I wholeheartedly agree!!
You mean young hens on UA-cam
😂😂then it should be called cackling 😅😅

yes! haha
Thank you
After you squeeze le curds in the cheese cloth, can anything be done with the excess liquid?
What temp was the milk heated to? I couldn't quite see the thermometer reading
The milk was heated to 120F or 50C!
do i have to add heavy cream?
Can I use fresh cream instead of heavy cream?
Can you drink/use the rest of the water or you throw it?
You can drink the whey or add it to pancakes batter or bread dough instead of water, gives your pancakes or bread a protein boost.
how long will it last if we put it in the fridge?
I noticed when heating the milk u didn’t seperate the cream.. can i seperate the cream and in order to add it to the cheese in the end?
Is the heat turned off to add the vinegar?
How long does this last in the fridge?
Can you make cottage cheese with processed milk or it has to be fresh?
Homogenized reg milk out of the grocer case is fine, any fat % as you like.
Is heavy cream necessary?
Hi. I’m a little confused why the recipe says 1 gallon of milk ? That is 8 pints which sounds impossible. Thanks.
do you happen to have the macros?? at least the protein!
How much is the finished yield? What do you do w/the separated “water”?
The liquid is just water and whey protein. It used to be thrown away as a waste product until they figured out dumb people would buy it as a health supplement at inflated prices.

What kind of milk? Raw? Pasteurized? Ultra-Pasteurized?
If you are using ultra pasteurised milk (UHT ultra heat treated), it won't work.
Just use regular cold pasteurised whole milk. I did it and it worked perfectly.
Why Cottage is so higher in protein compared to other cheese, if the recipe is so simple?
The homemade cottage chesse have the same amount of protein as the milk you use, only the manufactured cheese have those high amount of protein
Can i not add heavy creamm?
This is curd cheese rather than proper cottage cheese. But it is still tasty and nutritious.
I tried to make this but when I put in the vinegar it turned all into one big clump? Any reason why?

Can the amount of salt be reduced or left out?
هي دي المفروض جبنه قريش ولا دي حاجه تانيه؟
ايوة هي
اللي عندنا بتكون مالحة اكثر
Don’t throw the whey, make smoothies 👍
Milk in use for making cottage cheese is fat free milk why u used full cream milk??
Isnt this ricotta?
Hi there, great question! It is quite similar to ricotta, but ricotta is a bit creamier and slightly sweeter than cottage cheese. Give this easy recipe a try, and let us know what you think about it!
This is ricotta cheese recipe.
So why are there 9, maybe 12 ingredients on it in the store? May contain traces of soy
So it is more shelf stable, lasts longer with the same texture and it is probably made in a factory that also processes soy products
I did 120c💀
This is how we make farmer's cheese. This in the video is not cottage cheese.
If you had payed attention,When you add the heavy cream it becomes cottage cheese 4 % ideally but depending on how much or little you add
@@castinajig if you would've ever tried making cottage cheese this way you would know that heavy cream DOES NOT make farmer's cheese into cottage cheese. Cheers!
I thought cottage cheese was meant to be healthy
The store bought would be so much cheaper than this 😢
This is ricotta, not cottage cheese.

🔴 this is NOT cottage cheese. Cottage cheese uses culture and rennet.
Bla bla bla
BS it does.
