  • Evolution of the Toronto Streetcar network, from its opening in 1861 to the handing of ownership to the Toronto Transportation Commission in 1921, under the operation of the Toronto Street Railways, Toronto Railway Company, the Toronto Civic Railway, and the Toronto Suburban Railway, among other management.
(Thanks ‪@compdude100‬ for reminding me to put this in the description)
Red = Toronto Street railway, later the Toronto Railways Company. These companies held the horsecar/streetcar franchise within the City of Toronto and neighbouring towns and villages, and were the main service provider over the 60 year period that this video covers.
Dark red = interurbans, sometimes operated by the owner of the TSR, mostly not.
Orange = The urban routes of the Toronto Suburban Railway, which operated multiple routes in the Region of York between 1891 and 1931.
Yellow = Toronto City Railway, a municipally owned company that operated routes after 1912, due to the refusal of the TSR to build streetcars outside of its original jurisdiction of the 1891 boundaries of the City of Toronto, which had grown due to amalgamation.
