BEVs are getting so much better each year that I'm reminded of computers in the last century. Buy one and it's obsolete in 18 months. And you're seeing that effect now with used BEV prices. As long as BEVs are improving so rapidly, I think leasing a BEV is the way to go.
Still expensive doing that. Especially with rates where they are.
Was that an Amazon van made by rivian that passed behind Zack, while he was discussing rivian? Lol
@@jbmop Keep your ear to the ground. Ford is offering a 72 month 0% down financing for their EVs :)
@@edbourne8571, that would have been LOL, but no it was not a Rivian van.
Such nonsense. With OTA updates Tesla and others keep improving there cars. There are Tesla's on the road with 1,000,000 mikes on then, thats not obsolete thats incredible value.
All the options(gas, hybrid PHEV, EV) create too much uncertainty and paralysis for the consumer to make a choice (or fear of making the wrong one). I like Toyota going to straight hybrids on everything. Easier to wrap head around
Always good! Thanks.
In the U.S. right now, the easiest way to cash in on the $7500 EV tax credit may actually be through a lease. Some of the cars that used to qualify for the purchase credit now don't, BUT there is a loophole that allows manufacturers to build the same discount into a lease credit. There are many complexities to this but the bottom line is that many dealers are pushing leases on EVs, often with a $7500 lease discount specifically called out.
Another great review and information guys👍👍 🙂
I did two and a half years ago exactly what Zack is suggesting: bought an off-lease (3yr) fully loaded 2018 Volvo S90 T6 AWD with its beautiful Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Silver on blonde. Got the manufacturer’s CPO extended 6-yr warranty. (Loved that Volvo but traded it in after two years for our first EV 6 months ago.)
Can I tell you something, the cupholders still being where the third row is maybe the best thing ever. I already know i will put a couple products or bottles that I keep in the car there without having them roll around. That’s the smartest thing ever.
Hi both Looking forward to another episode of interesting and helpful facts and anecdotes 🎉
Super Thank you Zack and Andrea for helping soooo many people by providing smart advice on this crazy Expen$I've World of today!
Hello from Waterloo🤩🇨🇦
Thank you for the kind words, it's much appreciated.
Audi cars are so much more expensive than bmw n merc
Happy Friday
2:47 wow great initial reaction from both of you, followed by a legit hot take.
I also like the i4 , think it's a good car based on the price, specs and electric range compared to newer models similar range but higher pricing.
Thank you for Lexus UX300H vs Countryman feedback. I ordered the 2025 Countryman and it just arrived in Canada. The UX was just too small for me so I'll be getting the redesigned 2025 Countryman. Can't wait for your review when you get your hands on one.
Come on Zach-You’ve got it all now!
I too get mixed up some of vehicles model’s name like CX 90. They change the name like say Andrea, Zack or even better Borg. 😉 Great Show Guys! ☕️☕️
It is confusing for sure!
Do me a favor. Next time you film at that spot grab those 2 trash coffee cups off that wall outside your passanger side window. I've noticed then before in another video. 😊
What an eye!
I’ve been watching those too! I wonder what’s up with them 😂
I wear jeans 90% of the time and have never had an issue with staining on any of my car seats. As Zach suggests, get a quality cleaning product if you have any priblems.
Come back to Las Vegas!!!
We have a battery plant being planned, graded and built in Elgin County (St. Thomas, ON) by VW. Don't know when it is due to open. It may assist in getting a VW hybrid on the North American market. As always, I enjoy your presentations. Best wishes from The Forest City (London, ON)
Thank you, glad you are enjoying QC&C, best wishes to you as well!
Planned: 2027.
I see a lot of ID 4s over here in Victoria. I just wish we were getting the ID 3 GTX
1 or 2 yr old car..... great advice. Q4s new are high 70s and I'm now seeing 1 yr old Q4s loaded in the low 50s asking.
The q4 is a shockingly overrated car.
@@bassandtrebleclef I wouldn't say that, but it just illustrates how used car prices have completely turned around. And I see the market going down from here.
Hybrid is my next vehicle.
What watch are you wearing…intriguing
For the question around EV with light interior, get an electrified GV70...amazing interior!
Can you guys do a Audi A4 review please..
I say no to buying an EV now.
Yep, I agree.
Not convinced yet
I am waiting for Solid state battery technology to establish itself and then once the positive responses come then I will consider a PHEV or maybe even a full EV if ranges are over 550 km per charge.
Agreed ...except for certain uses in certain places by certain people, they are not yet ready for prime time, imo
Why?
I have a 2023 Audi Q3 Technik in Canada and it does have wireless Android Auto.
Could you still get the B.C + Federal Rebate if it's a use EV ?
Have I missed a review of your new GTI?
Lolz missing the 3rd row seat on the cx70 made me laugh a bit too loud
me too haha
Nothing like my new xlt hybrid as i fly by the gas stations in electric mode. GO FORD MAVERICK!
I heard that Rivian loses the equipment of a Tesla Model 3 per Rivian R1S. Just think about that. For every R1S, they LOSE approximately $35,000 USD! Their fate, in my opinion, is sealed. Does anyone out remember (very recently) what happened with Canoo? And they ‘theoretically’ had a contract to supply Walmart’s fleet of upcoming EV delivery vehicles. Time will certainly tell for Rivian. Thanks for the video.
It is not "sealed," but it remains uncertain. The same was true for Tesla when they only had the roadster toy.
I would test drive the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N if I could afford it. It seems awesome
I'm near positive my next car will be an EV. So sick of fighting for pennies off at the pump. But my current lease ends in 2027. Just hoping for more options the size of my Ford Edge. A larger 5 seater mid sized SUV.
Check insurance rates first. And the cost of EV rates tires.
The rumor is that the 2025 Audi Q3 might me a plug in hybrid too with 60 miles of range. At the very least, it will be a mild hybrid which will still increase the MPG. The spy shots of the new Q3 look quite nice, it looks like a great refresh. However, what Canada and the U.S will get is still up in the air 😩
What about the Volvo xc60 recharge as a PHEV option?
My 2023, 455HP S60 recharge has averaged 101 mpg since 11/1/22 (includes two winters). Charging the battery overnight costs about $35 a month at 16.5¢ per kWh. My last four-cylinder BMW averaged 29.7 MPG driven the same way on the same Pennsylvania roads.
Buick also makes an Enclave.
I got an ev in Alberta last July, my insurance premium was $170 a month, to get almost identical coverage bc in my premium went up to $440 per month. That was pretty disappointing to take.
Cant compare any car insurance in Alberta to BC...
@@vancity2349 why not?
@@Dundun4793 In BC we have a government owned monopoly with no competition
Until my car gives up , starts causing me actual headaches, then I will get a hybrid.
I like my EV6 that I’ve had for 1.5 year with 50k km. I love the instant torque and not having to go to the gas station. I would get another EV for my next main car.
QC &C!!!
I'm holding off on buying an ev right now... Unless they come out with solid state batteries which extend range and charge times. Until then, I prefer to wait.
Gil Pratt, the chief scientist at Toyota, has said the first logical application of solid state batteries will be in hybrids and plug-in hybrids. He said solid-state battery cost will be a prohibitive factor in an EV due to the battery size.
Do so opened minded research. CATL Unveiled a Revolutionary Million-Mile Battery, warranty with only 5 degradation. Solid state batteries are too expensive and not needed for EV's.
I decided not to jump into EV now (was looking at ID4 and Ioniq5, couldn't afford more expensive EV) and instead financed Honda CRV Touring Hybrid
Honda prices that one so high compared to RAV4 hybrid. It's what $50K CAD
In-laws bought a brand new RX-350H and got it in 4 months - dealer told him in the US it would have been a year.
Happy Friday best auto reviewers in North America, Zach it's time for a new watch to match the new GTI...I'm thinking TAG Monaco!
Awe thank you very much, very kind of you to say.
It's always a good time to buy a watch. Next is a JLC
@@Motormouth... CLASSIVO 43C
C43C-01WL13A is a better value!!!!
@@jonclassical2024 What is that?
Unless you are very well off financially or just an early adopter that has to have the latest I would stay out of the EV market for at least another 5 years until infrastructure and range anxiety problems are no longer a major issue… just buy a hybrid or PHEV if you are worried about the environment and/or fuel prices.
Good advice.
I agree!
There is really no range anxiety for most people’s daily commute or occasional mid range road trips. It’s not just the fuel price savings, You’ll wake up everyday with fully charged battery. Once you start plugging and charging every night at home, you’ll realize how much time you can save from never having to go to gas stations.
EVs don't cost that much more than gas vehicles anymore. And, if you qualify for incentives then they can even cost less. If you have a place to charge at night, then I would strongly consider buying one. If you have a place to charge at night, and you're a multi-vehicle family, making one of them an EV is almost a no-brainer.
@@dansanger5340 strongly agree
Gas over flash
What Starbucks coffee ☕ do you both prefer?
We both like an Americano.
We gave up on idea of buying an EV recently when we found out how much more the insurance was going to cost.
I like when Andrea's smile disappeared the moment that Zach says he would buy a used car. You can tell she's not a fan of the idea.
Having owned 2 EVs since 2020, my advice is if you really, really want an EV lease it. Know that our Ontario charging infrastructure isn't the best nor reliable. I now have a hybrid.
None Tesla chargers need to be better. Here in Vancouver there are Tesla superchargers everywhere
@@vancity2349 Correct. How well Tesla will handle the increased supercharger use by non-Teslas is a big unknown. It's quite possible the reliability enjoyed today will go downhill. And, you can bet, Tesla will charge more for non-Teslas using their infrastructure. Using Tesla superchargers are a gap reducer, the overall infrastructure needs to improve. I wouldn't recommend buying a CCS-only EV either. Has to be NACS if considering buying.
@@ScubaSteveCanada Why will it go down hill? So they are not allowed to change their prices?
Wow this is a long one. Do you and your other UA-camrs in Canada get along? I think Steve Elmer is one of the best talkers on camera I've seen until you guys were discovered by me. You don't so trucks though. TFL does to much rehashing old videos.
Steven is a great guy, we like him and his Dad a lot.
I am waiting until the NACS charge port becomes ubiquitous. I had a Model 3 for a few months, but want my next EV to be a REAL car, not Elon's vision of what a car should be. I have a Tesla charger at my house but the Tesla was a huge disappointment. I have a Prius Prime on order and am driving a Maverick Hybrid for now.
In 2012, I purchased the lowest trim Lexus CT200h for a bit less than a well equipped Prius. Much nicer interior. Very happy with my choice.
There were about 500 Electric vehicle makers in China in 2019 at the start of Covid-19. Now there are less than 100 as the public's buying patterns determine who will succeed in EV startups. Currently just Tesla is the only one nearing long term profitability. Now even they are threatened as the high pricing of the industry is turning so many people against purchasing now. Lease if you have to go electric, provided the numbers makes sense. As the re-sale value of used EVs continues downward, the industry is struggling.
I feel sorry for those poor people that bought an EV in the past few years... they'll not get much back at trade in time.
So ice engine dont depreciate?
After hearing. about the golf for a year, why don't you do coffee n cars from it, is it broken....hahaha.
Ima European with a scarf. Get it
Strong no to EV , yes to plugin hybrid !
Rivian is done unless they get additional investment. Their vehicles are way too expensive. The R2 and R3 are nowhere near production.
for someone looking for cars like top trim Camry/Prius and don’t have regular super long road trips, Tesla Model 3 makes more financial sense and offers much more hp, fun and tech. It’s cheaper to buy, owning it cost nearly nothing. You need to have the capability to charge at home tho.
The largest car ownership expense is depreciation, the risk with EVs is 1) newer cheaper technology lower EV prices and impacts resale. 2) the battery is a big liability as the car ages.
@@foxlake6750 think about it this way, if there is huge leap in battery technology, it will make ice cars even more obsolete than first/second gen EV. The world trend for car sales as of now is still 100% EV in 10 years so it’s too premature to say gas cars can still hold their values 10 years from now.
核心是得买得起房子才能开得起电车😂
@@wyw201 或者是有个可以充电的出租车位
@@DVinCanada, a huge leap would be great, but it is very unrealistic. The next gen will be expensive and people will be complaining even more.
Plug EVs & plug-hybrids really only work for people who own their own home/garage to charge it in, as public metered charging is very inconvenient, unreliable & quite a bit more costly. Current EV battery-tech also doesn't fare well in cold climates, or extreme heat for that matter. Then there is high battery replacement costs, high auto insurance costs & lower used trade/sell values for full-EV vehicles. I wouldn't buy anything more than a no-plug hybrid at this point when it comes to an EV type vehicle.
Where are you getting your info from...Extreme low temps effect all cars. In Calgary last winter gas pumps froze. Insurance in BC for my wife's Tesla is no more expensive that a comparable ice engine car.
I am not sure if the apple rumour has merit… having said that, i don’t think a company like Fisker with a reduced stock value is the driving factor for a company that has trillions of dollars of value like apple. If apple were to be looking, they would look for the company that has a more promising product to build with. I don’t think Fisker represents that…
I think it's bad advice to buy an EV right now. Prices are bound to go down since there's little demand for them, plus higher battery ranges are just around the corner. Even if the rebates are discontinued, you can always buy a used EV for less.
Those higher ranges will cost more (no joke) and people will complain again.
Little demand? In Q1 of 2023, the Model Y was the best selling car in the world, thats a fact. Clearly many people globally disagree with you.
@@vancity2349 It's no longer 2023. Hasn't been for a while.
@@michaels3003 Currently, yes. In the near future? No.
Buy EV never, or until reliability is proven
EV Reliable? Please explain what you mean?
@@vancity2349 battery degradation, especially in the winter; over reliance on technology and touchscreens; basic functions locked behind paywalls or scrolling through menus, infant charging infrastructure; not everyone can charge them at home, since many lives in condos or in apartments. I can go all day
I would buy a full EV tomorrow morning if: I could get a solid, roomy-enough, 4-seater, with good range and no stupid self-driving bells and whistles for 30k or less. Build it and they will come. Are you listening VW?
No, they are not listening, because they cannot build it. You would need to buy a Chinese vehicle (in China).
What is good range to you?
People are waking up, and EV sales are tanking.
When will you just use your regular speech? Welcome to coffee and car and drop the episode #?

It’s like when Boeing shortened the 707 and called it a 720.
@@robertnagy1902 of course Boeing-they at least shorten it- Mazda didn’t even bother with that , just the seat third row gone
The thought of spending hard earned money on a ev is a nightmare. BIG NO!
Why?
No to EV for the vast vast majority of situations.
Toyota is a benchmark on bev. If they make bad ev means not the time yet because mainstream carmaker do not make good ev yet
Hyundai
I WISH THEY WOULD SAY WHAT KIND OF CELL PHONES THEY HAVE.....
I BELIEVE IT'S A SAMSUNG GALAXY S24 OR S24 PLUS.....
BUT I'M NOT SURE...
"Buy an EV now or wait?" Definitely wait. The EVs of today are dysfunctional garbage. Everything about them sucks, and the problems arise from the immature battery technology. It just isn't where it ought to be. The durability of the battery is too limited, the charging too slow, thermal requirements too strict, the weight and the price excessive, safety sacrificed. Perhaps the time will come when all these problems are fixed, but this time is not today.
Panie, good points but calling it garbage is fanatical. Drop this kind of language.
Such none sense...
@@michaels3003 Would "śmieć" sound better?
Great show as usual. If Trump gets in we know he is an EV hater. Does he like Tesla we dont know but it is the most American made car. Same for Trudeau, while pro EV his successor may not be, we just dont know.
We hear alot of negatives about EV subsidies. I would guess most of your audience has no idea of the massive billions of dollars in oil and gas subsidies governments pay in the US and Canada. In one your upcoming video's please talk and educate people about this.
