    This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2023 Kia Niro EV subcompact utility. Niro EV has a 64.8 kWh battery, 407 km/253 miles of EV range, an increase of 22 km/14 miles. It has 201 horsepower and all Niro models are FWD. On a level 3 fast charger, the battery can be replenished up to 80% in 43 minutes and with a Level 2, the battery can be charged in 6 hours and 5 minutes.The interior is modern and clean with improved tech giving it an upscale feel for this sub-compact segment. The cabin includes, dual 10.25” screens and added features like an available power tailgate and Harman Kardon Sound System. It comes standard with cloth upholstery, available cloth and leatherette as well as leatherette on the top trim. Kia says, the interior includes materials that are recycled and animal-free. In Canada, a heat pump is available one up from the base model and in the US, in a package on the base model.The Kia Niro EV is a very spacious sub-compact crossover, it has similar front legroom space to other EV’s like the Kia Soul, Hyundai Kona and the Mazda MX-30. The Chevrolet Bolt EUV offers the most. Second row legroom is excellent at 36.7” beating out most of the competition we mentioned except for the Bolt EUV at 39.2”. Cargo space behind the second row and overall cargo space amongst these competitors is the best. With the 11 kW onboard charger, the Niro can go from 10% - 100% in just over 6 hours and with a 350 kW DC Faster charger 43 minutes.

    I rented the last generation's Niro EV a few days again. Very impressed. Excellent ride quality, very plus and as good as some luxury cars. It was solid. And it is very quiet and cruises effortlessly on the highway with good noise insulation. Felt every bit worth its money IMO.

    I really like the 2023 Niro EV, love the new style it will road trip much better than my 2020 Soul EV Limited as it has battery preconditioning, but both cars are much, much better on road trips than the Bolt any version, I traded my 2019 Soul EV Luxury with 30KWH battery with 29K KM and almost not measurable battery deterioration (SKI batteries) but I did limit charging to 80% and only road tripped it in 2019 where I only once used a charger that could deliver 66KW charging rate (limited by the car) and always monitored the battery temp via OBD app. Kia / Hyundai make great EV products.

    Our 2020 Kia Soul EV and even the 2019 (both front wheel drive) I had great winter tires never had an issue, loved the way the weight cut through the snow rather than ridding on top of the snow!

    Great review. I don't understand the need for AWD on this class of cars. FWD + a set of winter tires would do excellent job on the snow. AWD doesn't replace the the performance of winter tires on snow and ice.

    Given that using a DC fast charger all the time is bad for the battery, I’d go with the hybrid. I didn’t know that before. Good bit of information for people like me who shares a parking lot at home. Great video as always.

    • @jamespaul2587
      @jamespaul2587 Рік тому +2

      For most people, DC fast charging is used only on long road trips, and even then they typically charge only to 80% or so as the charging slows down past that level, battery degregation really isn't an issue. Many people charge at home if they're able to, or at lower speed level 2 charging most of the time

    • @shaijotanya
      @shaijotanya 8 місяців тому

      True that is why having a charger at an apartment/condo/house will definitely be helpful since all you gonna need to do is charge it before sleeping. DC fast charging is mostly used during long trips or for uber/lyft drivers that needs a quick charge.

    OK the headlights be led is bad, most to all it can be very costly
    My research has found that you need to replace the whole headlight assembly if and when the lights go out is over $1000 plus labor of 2 to 3 hours
    I can replace hydrogen bulbs for under $100

    Kia's decision to put the rear signal lights at the bottom of the bumper is mystifying. Why not just have the rear blade-style lights act as the signals?

      Automakers have completely forgotten that the whole point of bumpers is that they are supposed to be a cheap and disposable part of the car in case of low speed accident. When they start putting expensive stuff like turning signals and radar sensors in there you get the sense that they don't care about the practical considerations of consumers.

    There's absolutely no need for AWD in these less expensive EV's. There's a heavy battery in the floor and it should have plenty of traction for most snowy driving conditions. It should move better than my front wheel drive car which does quite well in Alberta weather.

    I've been a passenger in the Bolt, and was not that impressed by the interior, or the exterior shape. However, having the charge port on the side of a fender is much better than on the front for winter slush. I live 500 km north of Toronto, and driving the Niro hybrid with winter tires has not been a problem on snow. It will also cost a lot less when the headlight is burned out or damaged in the future. I am disappointed that KIA redesigned the rear backup camera location from the current model which is right below the wiper and allows people to install a third-party rear camera wiper (CamWipe) when backing up in poor weather/road condition. Also, it looks like the retractable trunk cover is not included anymore. I wonder if anyone is going to make third-party aero blades for the current model... I bet it will sell well!!

    The 23 Niro does not get 253 miles per charge. I got it up to 225 ONCE charging it to %96. The heating/AC blows hot when you want cold air, and vice versa. The airflow changes direct without human intervention as well, so don't get used to having air go where you want it. The HVAC control interface is incorporated into the infotainment system, and in order to fiddle with the controls (which I do every 5 minutes or so, because...seeabove), you have to take your eyes off the road and figure out which of the numerous touch-screen controls need fiddling with. This is phenomenally poor design, compounded by the inefficacy of the HVAC...it don't work. The car drives nicely, but Kia did not sweat the details with this car.

    One peddle driving is great once you get used to it. Nothing better for in town stop & go traffic.

    they don't sell this in AWD because it would cannibalize the ev6 sales, this is much better looking and would sell better

    Until Kia gets a dedicated fast charging system for the road, it is a no go. Too many nightmare verified examples of non-working third party charging systems. Maybe it is better in Canada.

    I feel like AWD vs RWD is like the all season vs winter debate. All seasons are perfectly fine…until you have driven with good winters. RWD is perfectly fine… until you have driven through winter with AWD. Yes i live where there is real winter… saying its about just about feeling more comfortable is not entirely accurate.

    I wouldn’t buy a vehicle from a company that took a $2 billion dollar hit in Q3 of this year for their engine failures and fires. Good luck to whoever buys this 😂

      Are you talking the Bolt or Niro here? Bolt has had way more issues than Niro.
