I stopped dating. And i found my authentic self. I stopped censoring my clothes and hair because i thought my true way of dressing was not sexy or attractive to men. I made myself more mainstream. I didn't feel free. When i stopped dating i freed myself from all that. I started dressing in ways that made me happy. I am quirky and awkward and sexy clothes don't suit my deepest, most authentic self. Now that i am free, i wear my loose dresses, bloomers, short bangs, knee socks, whatever without a single thought of whether men will like this. I HAVE NEVER FELT SO FREE AND SO MUCH INTEGRITY OF WHO I AM!!. if i decide to start dating again, my aim is to not go back. If a person is the right person for me, they will be attracted to my authentic self. Period.

Stepping into your true self is one of the hardest but most rewarding things you can do for your overall health as an adult. I think it starts with not needing to explain yourself to everyone and learning how to advocate for the things you want in life. Best of luck to everyone who's on their own journey back to themselves!

I've noticed that whenever I feel natural, like I'm behaving like my true self, I keep getting looks from others where the look on their face is like: "What the hell are YOU doing? What gives YOU the right to be confident and filled with unapologetic self-belief?" It's actually hilarious the more conscious I become of who I am. Self concept is what EVERYTHING hinges on.

I never realized how much other people's opinion of me mattered, until I saw myself compromising on my core beliefs hoping my boyfriend would fall for me. I finally realized no matter how much I tried to conform, I was not being true to myself, and would not like myself as long as I allowed myself to be manipulated by another person. It is better to be alone, and be authentic then try to make others like you and be miserable. The moment you let your guard down, and get pounced on by another person, you either become a door mat, or develop a backbone and say to yourself, "there is someone out there who would love me for me."

Calmness is a human superpower. The ability to not overreact or take things personally keeps your mind clear and your heart at peace. It’s never too late to change your attitude about something you can’t change. Just decide to make the best of it. Take life day by day and be grateful for the little things. No excuses. Let go of all the purposeless drama, aimless time-wasters, and mental clutter that keeps getting in your way.. Take care of your mind and the way you speak to yourself. Don’t let negative self-talk weaken you. Talk like you are blessed. Walk like you are blessed. Think like you are blessed. Work like you are blessed. And you will be, one way or another.
Everything gets a bit uncomfortable when it’s time to change (or when it’s time to recalibrate your expectations). That’s just a part of the growth process. Things will get better. Be patient, and remind yourself that you will never have to force anything that’s truly meant to be. Just do your best, then adopt a “whatever happens, happens” mindset. Don’t try to force things-let go and allow the right blessings to flow.

"We can't DO our way into feeling good about ourselves". This really hit me. As a child I always felt helpless when it came to helping my mom/others. I was told I could help by DOING chores, or being obedient. As an adult, I've noticed that I only feel momentarily good about myself based on the actions I do and what people say about them. It doesn't last obviously, so this video was an eye opener for me.

I came across this and felt the need to really listen. I came out of an 18 year relationship that was abusive physically and mentally with gaslighting, making me believe I was not worthy or respected. I know I still have a lot of healing and understanding of myself, as I tend to try to understand others first but forget my own self worth. I am looking forward to listen to these discussions and reminders on how to live my life the way I want and need to.

Also, my mother was a narcissist so I consider their characteristics as being normal. But, once their crazy comes out and they expose themselves, I leave like a bat out of hell. Lol......yes, you do have to keep a sense of humor. I like myself a lot but I watch your videos because I need to work on boundaries and not being so nice. I know I am getting better at these things but any advice is useful. I want to say that the first videos I saw of yours that you looked stressed and I wasn’t sure. How to build a healthy self image:
    1. Manage your thoughts and stop criticizing yourself
    * notice when you’re criticizing yourself and replace it with something positive
    2. Look in the mirror and appreciate what you see
    * look for things to appreciate and say something positive to yourself
    3. Your view of your authentic self is flawed
    * we don’t like ourselves when we’re inauthentic
    * your authentic self is beautiful and attractive. People want to see who you really are
    4. Make appreciations list
    * when you write it down, it makes it real
    * write down things you appreciate about yourself: what are you good at ?
    5. Make a recognition list:
    *what did you do well?
    * what have you accomplished?
    * Recognize your successes and growth
    5. Let yourself do things you like despite what people might think
    * Own what you like and dislike
*You can’t control what other people think about you
    6. Just let yourself be yourself
*Who are you outside of your defenses, masks you wear and who you think you should be
    * Who are you when you have nothing to prove
, no one to impress, nothing to earn ? You’re just You
You are good enough and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.
Being good enough doesn’t mean we don’t have to have room to grow. Worth and growth are completely different things.
I hope this helps someone ❤

I just discovered your channel. I love what I've watched so far. The video on HSP was spot on for me! Thank you.
Re: body image. I went through a lot of negative self-talk and sabotage after I became singie. I felt no man would find me beautiful, sexy, or even look at me. I left my marriage with a horribly damaged self image because I looked to my ex to provide me with how I should feel about myself. He reflected back what he saw and felt. It was so self defeating. I struggled with finding anything beautiful about myself. One way I made myself see my body as it is, was by attaching a full length mirror on the wall across from my shower door. Every time I step out, I see myself in all my wonderful, but imperfect glory. I say I'm imperfectly perfect because I believe nobody, no matter how beautiful, or flawless, or thin they are (perceived), is perfect. It's been 8.5 years that I'm single. It's been a tough but satisfying journey. I am constantly learning, and wanting to share with others: it is possible to find love and peace within yourself.

My name is Carley. Just subscribed. I just want to say thank you so much. I've had a really big problem with therapists... And it's left me without one for some time. But I feel safe and I feel understood here. So thank you Julia. Here's to getting better.

I have spent 11 years trying to self-correct damage from a physically and verbally abusive household which in turn has only taught me that the only person I could trust with any information I contain is myself. This can seriously affect marriage in a way where I was feeling like I was a narcissist if I spoke good about myself. Or that gloating isn't okay. Your videos are helping, but a huge piece to this is also removing the allowance of negativity to physically alter your mood. If your around people who aren't supportive or positive, then it can have a serious impact on how you yourself view life.

Thank you for sharing. I watched a few of your videos and I really appreciate the clarity and enlightenment you brought to support people.
I often tell myself it is OK to be a loser. Even if I'm a loser, so what? I can still be comfortable with it because it is a skill to be comfortable of not being my best self. It doesn't change the fact I love myself, no matter what. Then I just can't help appreciating how "shameless" but cute I am. Deep inside, I know I am a resilient person. I know I have a strong drive and persistence to learn and thrive. I just need to allow myself to take the necessary time to get there. I also found when I'm comfortable with myself I can only own my responsibilities and treat others with respect and empathy. Now I learned to listen to my heart and let the brain to back off in relationships. I let go people who try to tell me who I am and how I should feel. I certainly don't mind people calling me selfish, especially to the opinion of self-surving people. It feels great to be my own driver and pick my own passengers. I believe loving myself is the best thing I can do for people I care about because they can enjoy the company from an emotionally stable and mentally healthy me.

Evaluation of your self is really tough. I look at my weaknesses and think so little of them as failures. I reach out for help and am rejected time & time again. I became self reliant but frustrated with others. I can take an experience and put it into my experience- evaluate it as such and move on to the next.
    Thank you

This i is the first time I'm commenting this video has hit so hard just watching it has made me cry cuz this is exactly how I have been feeling it's hard for me to say this in person and publicly. There are times that I have so much self-doubt cuz I don't feel the courage in myself because I go through so much with my life but I forget to pay attention to myself cuz I pay attention to everybody else this is one of the things that I myself have struggles with I've been watching 12 of your videos so far and I can relate to most of them and I really appreciate everything that you have done and accomplished in your life and I thank you for opening up my mind more than I have ever thought with any counselor I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart

Thank You Julia for this video. This has been a struggle for myself. I've always disliked my self image. This has hold me back from approching people and just having a conversation about anything. When I do get in conversation with anybody I feel like they are looking at all the things I don't like about myself, and can't wait to end the conversation. I do know that i'm a good person with a great heart, I know that I love to help people, I know that making someone day to me is priceless. Your advise got me thinking to look in the mirror and focus on that and maybe I can appreciate myself. I hope this can help me appreciate myself physically. Won't be easy. I see so many flaws. I will try. Thank You Julia.

I love smooth jazz! I am trying to think of what I like about myself. The body image thing is really hard for me. So should I avoid talking about that parts of me that I don't really like? I must say it's really hard for me to say nice things about myself. I use to think that was being vain. I guess I can honestly say I like my lower voice. I have much inner work to do but another thing I love because I love it is having a UA-cam channel. I really enjoy it and it is my favorite hobby right now. It gives me something to look forward to. Julia, thank you for your content. I find it really helpful.

Lol, i am 39 yrs old and I love Taylor swift too!!! Yes she is mainstream almost teeny bopper style but how can you not give credit where credit is due?!? She is first and foremost HERSELF which is so magnetizing and she writes her own music which is not easy at all.. so much talent there!! Anyways I also want to say thank you to YOU! I've only watched a few of your videos and I am already feeling far better about myself! Thank you so much!!!

    I look good.
I have a regular routine of doing sports.
I can speak English super fluent.
    ...
Suddenly I realized that there are a lot more things in me that I should be proud of.
Although it will take a period of time to get rid of self uncertainty,
now I know what should I do.
    Thank you for this vid.💜
