  • How To Replace The Rear Wheel Bearing DIY, No Special Tools Needed.
I have left the bearing to get worse over the last 6 months so I could record the noise on camera, just to help someone recognise the noise a worn bearing makes.
In this video I replace the bearing, its another tight one, but I have a great tip to help remove a stubborn one.
Links to all tools and parts in the video:-

Link to new wheel bearing, £45 on amazon, amzn.to/324ou2O

Also here is the link to the aygo video where the bearing was also really tight and I struggled to remove it.

You could have bolted a wheel the opposite way around and smacked it from behind with a sledge mate. It’s what I did and worked a charm

It’s much easier and cheaper instead of buying new tools for it 🤣 like I said just flip it around and get two lug nuts and bolt it down then go behind that wheel and belt it with a sledge hammer

Well I've finally done it on my own 107. Have to say thats a lot Anton for the videos, they were definitely useful and well made. Especially useful was that breakshoe video which was a much needed god send. I kind of wish i'd been able to make a video myself to cover my own experience, but I'll add a few pointers on here that may be of use.
So I had a really rusty hub and really rusty wheel itself at the back meaning I had to use a sledge hammer and blow torch just to get the bloody wheel off itself. The front plate came off surprisingly easy, but the hub was ridiculously melted on. I had to take off the brake shoes and created a make shift part out of a socket and a bolt to do a similar thing. It was hard to get it just right. What I didn't anticipate though was not being able to remove the bolts from the old hub properly when they went in far enough. It's also hard without an electric tool as well because the hub spins freely so you can't get that torque. I managed to crack one side and then the other side with pressure, then used the sledge hammer to completely knock it off. The rust was severe. I even got some of that Rost Off spray.
I had (not so much) fun taking apart the brake shoes and putting it back together only to realise that they didnt work at all. Lucky after some closer inspection I noticed that the horizontal bar with the adjuster on it hadn't been correctly seated in the brake shoe itself and when it was pushed to one side, it was simply sliding over the brake and not pushing it so nothing was happening. Managed to fix that and now the car sounds completely silent in comparison. I've only had the car just over a month and it was like this when I bought it so I've never had it so quiet.

    This is brilliant x
    Can't fault this guy.
I'm thinking two, not one bolt, or even four bolts would have eased off that stuck bearing assembly. And for sure, I would have put back the shoes before fitting the new bearing assembly.
I have to do this on my C1. So if I'm wrong in my assumptions here, I'd love to hear others'comments.
    Cheers x

Really enjoyed the video. My Toyota Yaris started to make a noise late last year. I thought at first the exhaust was starting to blow. The had only covered 38,000 miles. My local Toyota dealer diagnosed a rear wheel bearing problem. Repaired under warranty. Unfortunately they changed the wrong side first go. I think hitting so many potholes in the road wore the bearing out early.

    • @aaanton11
      @aaanton11  4 роки тому

The usual fault is water ingress, especially if the vehicle has been driven through water, ie flood or fords etc, the bearing cools rapidly and draws water in past the seals, great they changed them for you, the Yaris is a great car Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

    Hello Fella.
    Great video as always.
I've got the Milwaukee ratchet, great bit of kit as u say. I've also got the M12 3/8 impact gun from Milwaukee. Your big Milwaukeeis the M18 I take it? Nice bit of kit. They make things so much easier when doing repetition work.
But the big gun in impact gun's for me is the 18v Dewalt which I have. Up to the individual I guess, but I do like the big Dewalt.
Av a great weekend. Looking forward to surviving the L200 up to Leicestershire for my coffee or 2 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
