    Rogue Trader is everything I've wanted in a W40K game. The sheer amount of possibilities when it comes to customisation and the incredible set design with everything being lore accurate. Its truly an excellent game and easily my favourite this year.

      just picked this up and i agree. for a 40k fan this game is the dream. it delves into the world and lore to a degree far greater and with more detail than any other game has. It has issues as a game but you can really feel the love and passion for the setting from the devs. The writing is also excellent, better than most 40K books IMO.

      I love the game a lot, but it still comes second to BG3 to me. Though I think the main narrative in 40k rouge trader is better and the combat, BG3 is carried by those amazing character interactions that 40k Rouge Trader doesn't have. And BG3 has sound design, animations, and music that is next level.
      Thing is, I know the devs didn't expect it to be as good a BG3 and they didn't have the same budget, But I'm happy because if not for BG3 I'd never have given this amazing game a go. and it's certainly the second best game I've played in a long time.

    Even as a Rouge Trader, your life is not really a paradise. You were raised from childhood to be the new head of the Noble House. You have to mess with your possible rivaling brothers and sisters. Assassination attempts from possible other family members, to get rid of you and make themself the new head of the house, are possible. And don't forget, that on your way to wealth and fame, your family makes themselfs rivals. Some are small, some are big and some are to big, to deal with them directly.
    So yes, you are incredible wealthy. But in the grim darkness of the 40k Universe, nothing comes for free and mostly with great costs.

    In the somber vastness of the cosmos, a Rogue Trader is the quill that scribes new destinies upon the parchment of the stars. They are the torchbearers at the edge of night, the daring souls who venture where the map's edges fray and fall away into legend. Within their grasp, a Warrant of Trade - a holy scripture of purpose, etched in the blood of the God-Emperor and the ink of Imperial decree, a creed that blesses them with dominion over the uncharted reaches and whispers of power unknown.
    A Rogue Trader is the sovereign of the void, a regal monolith striding across the chessboard of the heavens. Theirs is a lineage or a destiny carved from the obsidian of deep space. In their hands, they wield not just the helm of their ship but the wheel of fate itself. Within the hollow halls of their starbound galleon, they command not just souls made of flesh and blood, but also the celestial spirits of adventure and the ravenous ghosts of ambition.
    On worlds where alien emperors reign unchallenged, a Rogue Trader is the shadow before the storm, the harbinger of a new dawn bedecked in war and wonder. With cannon and creed, they lay claim to these realms, scribing their names across the heavens in the indomitable language of conquest.
    They sail on the lonesome cosmic seas, where planets lie like unclaimed jewels, and nebulae drape over the black like the gossamer veils of celestial brides. A Rogue Trader gazes upon these wonders with the eyes of a ravening conqueror, a beneficent ruler, and a curious scholar, all at once. Each new world, a tome of unknown stories; each anomaly, a riddle wrapped in an enigma, swaddled in mystery.
    On occasion, like a thunderclap announcing the end of a storm, they come upon a world that sings with the echoes of ancient humanity-lost chords of a song once familiar. With the might of their Warrant, they weave these estranged brethren back into the Imperium's grand chorus. Elsewhere, they find planets that are silent, waiting for the sonorous boom of an Imperial banner unfurling or the guttural roar of a chainsword proclaiming conquest.
    In the boundless tableau of the universe, the Rogue Trader is the dauntless painter, the restless poet, whose every voyage scripts epic tales into the manuscript of the cosmos. They are the bridge between worlds known and unknown, the emissaries of the Imperium's insatiable hunger for dominion, and in their wake, they leave the enduring legacy of civilization twined with the dark beauty of the stars.
    So sails the Rogue Trader, a sovereign of the void, under the endless night of a million suns, each day a testament to human tenacity, each discovery a verse in the undying hymn to the God-Emperor. Their life is a battle, their path a crucible, as they cast the light of Holy Terra into the darkest corners of the galaxy.

    I recently got into Warhammer 40K through the books and I’ve never played a CRPG or any TTRPG but I did try the Baldur’s Gate 3 trial on PS5 and very much want to continue that game. It also got me interested in trying other CRPG games and Eogue Trader appeals to me very much so. I’m currently reading Ravenor book 3 and plan to read Eisenhorn 4 afterwards. Should I do any additional reading before I start this game? I have Uriel Ventris vol 1 & 2 omnibuses on my kindle along with the Night Lords trilogy and the 2 available Bequin novels. I plan to start working my way through Horus Heresy soon as well but I do kinda feel like I’m familiar enough with the setting to venture out and see more of it without getting confused. I guess my main concern would be whether or not this game is beginner friendly from a gameplay standpoint? I’ve played some Tactics style turn based strategy games so I’m not a complete novice but these games just feel different to me for some reason.

    • @fitzviandraduivenab2790
      @fitzviandraduivenab2790 6 місяців тому +1

      Just a heads up, Owlcat's games are not the most beginner friendly although i can say this one is the easiest one to learn. Also, since Owlcat is an indie dev and are on a budget, not every single dialogue is voiced. If you don't mind reading alot, go grab it. If you do however, stick to playing BG3 first. Owlcat's crpgs are imo unrivaled in terms of absorbing you into their worlds, plentiful choices, and story.
      Also, a pattern in Owlcat rpgs is that you are always playing as a person of authority and therefore have to manage something. In kingmaker it's your kingdom, in WotR you lead a crusade, and in Rogue Trader you need to manage your trade empire and colonies.

    • @fitzviandraduivenab2790
      @fitzviandraduivenab2790 6 місяців тому

      @@austinkoble Well, this is only based on my personal experience.
      (warning: novel below)
      Gameplay : BG3
      Graphics : BG3
      Polish : BG3
      Music : WH40K RT (very subjective)
      Audio : BG3
      Immersion : WH40K RT
      Story : WH40K RT
      Abundance of choices : WH40K RT
      Build variety : BG3
      Balance and learning curve : BG3
      BG3 has genuinely the most fun gameplay out of all crpgs that i've played. It's also the most graphically advanced and polished out of most crpgs out there. In terms of balance it is really good with a steady pace of increasing difficulty bit by bit. Everything in its gameplay is also easily digestible so you can understand what's going on 95% of the time.
      WH40K RT on the other hand, have an xcom-style gameplay. In terms of graphics it's servicable though the art style is still gorgeous to look at. It is also pretty janky by modern standards and is a bit buggy on release. In terms of balance, there is no balance. I'm half joking, but it really is a bit unbalanced. Where BG3 have a steady learning curve, RT's learning curve isn't a curve, it's heartbeat monitor. One moment you're easily mowing through enemies, the next you're begging for pain to end. While most bs tend to be on the optional stuff, a few mandatory encounters also feel heavily against you. And the game recognize that. Hell, on the first major boss fight each companion pretty much states "yep, we're gonna die aren't we?".
      So after all that, why do i still gravitate towards RT more? Well, experience mostly. BG3 is a really great game, but i think Larian intended BG3 to be a beginner's crpg thus everything is very simple. As a consequence, i find it piss easy even on the hardest difficulty. Also, i simple don't really mesh with Larian's writing. I find BG3's story a bit lacking and very disappointing, especially in the conclusions of the game. The way Larian and Owlcat approached its respective source materials are a bit different than each other. Larian takes a bit more liberty in its writing, while Owlcat is 100% in on the source material. You can just feel the difference in the writing between the 2 studios. Larian's are usually more light-hearted, free, and adventurous. You feel like you're hanging out and experiencing the best ride of your life. Owlcat's are usually more rigid and consistent. Everything feels like it belongs there. You feel like you are inside of that world and experiencing it directly. One thing that i really love from all Owlcat games is the politic talks. Sometimes you're approached with an issue and you need to discuss with your companions/person of interest on a topic with multiple outcomes that affects something greater. Stuff like "Your quartermasters are corrupt, wyd?" "The neighboring nations that are supplying us with soldiers are conflicting, which side should we support, or maybe not interfere and demand neutrality, or just cut them off cuz we dont really need them anyway?".
      Tl;dr Larian for beginners, more light hearted, and personal journeys. Owlcat is a bit more hardcore, more concise, and stories with threats greater than yourselves.

    Man I love this game, but I have to say this:
    the game is horrendously buggy, I am talking some of my menu buttons don't function. My "Continue" button never works and didn't from the start, while this may be a rare issue it's a bug nonetheless. Weapons suddenly go invisible, enemy turns never-ending needing a reload, a weird visual bug that makes the brightness and contrast maxed out in a rectangle shape on the middle of my screen, tool-tips and popup info, and mouse cursor pasting shadows as they move. Hard and soft-locked quests, articles of clothing, and armor for some reason appear under the map while I move? Launching the game to find out every setting in the menu turned itself to 0, font 0, brightness 0, window panning 0, sensitivity 0, despite me leaving it default and it staying default until that point? It's insane. I played through the entire beta and beat every act, I discovered every single planet and system, did every quest available clocked in at 77 hours. For some reason, the full-release build is buggier for me than the beta was. I do still recommend the game, but if anything I mentioned is a no-go for you, then wait a couple months, but do still buy the game now, or eventually it's worth it.

    This gem of a game will sell big cause of videos like this. While I have watched quite a few videos on RT, this video is the one that sold me on this game and the Warhammer universe.
    That said, IMO the devs should take heed of what everyone is crying about though. With the income they pull in they should voice act the whole game as this is where the major complaints lie. If they are unwilling to do this then just have AI voice the whole game. There is a guy that purchased an AI program and then added voices to all lines in Morrowind. He said its not hard but time consuming. If a company is unwilling to even go this route then I just say this, don't go the path of Bethesda and be constricted in your path. Give the players what they want and this game will shine bright.
