Either I explained it wrong or people don't listen :P The TRAFFIC in this city is Vanilla traffic (with despawning on, like vanilla Cities Skylines) NOT vanilla building (like with no mods). It's obvious they used mods, but they used vanilla traffic (despawn on) to get 80% traffic flow. I like to make things harder for myself and turn despawn OFF. I also have a Preview version of TM:PE so the despawn button is reversed (also as explained and shown in the video) - thanks. Carry on :-)
You said it both ways so I feel that covers everything!
I swear they reverse the functionality of that button with every version that is released.
Thank you for the fix it video!
The strawberry version is better
You lowkey ruined the creators perfectly parallel roads
Omg that delete at 17:06 had me feeling itchy
How did he not notice.... dammit Biffa !!! ....
RIGHT?!?
Omg was shouting at screen biffa u deleted a rd cant believe he didn't notice lol
Also, the "You Go There" @ 23:55 is forcing people off and back into the indistry area as there is no node, so they can change lane before the next exit.
@@sheehanhewitt I was thinking that too!
That is one of the best cities i have ever seen, the amount of hours that went into this must of been huge.
I agree, its beautiful
Probably designed by an architect lol
@@scooterparsons5349 its basic geometry and really all you need is time
@@james.8060 thats basically every thing in the world but still i could just make a couple of stars and i bet it wouldnt look beautifull
@@MJ123and5 you can learn it. It's just like learning basic mathematics if you know the rules the possibilities are endless. Talent will of course work a lot but you can say that about almost anything
creator: i have worked for weeks on this piece of art ...
biffa: lets fix the traffic ...okay lets do some lane mathematics ... that doesnt need to be three lanes... lets delete that.... thats too close lets move it and give them more space .... im gonna change all of these ...
meanwhile the creator was delivered to the hospital with a heart attack
I'm sure the creator was quite aware of what would happen when he sent it to biffa.
@@dandiehm8414 oh it was send i thought he said he found it :)
@@raistormrs I think he usually only does cities people send to him. :)
Everyone’s a critic, and to that effect “when you make art in a city simulation be prepared for people to criticize your failure at simulating a city”
I'm here, but I don't send my city to BIFFA. He sub my city on steam community and everyone can do that. I'm not a professional youtuber. I make the city just to enjoy it :)
This city is stunningly beautiful. I want to see where e you take it.
17:08 you deleted a road that you shouldn't here 😉
Esp. after he said to make sure that nothing gets deleted. I don't think it harmed the city much though.
This city has a lot of extra roads. I would love to see how huge biffa can make this city.
@@kaltaron1284 About the only harm done is removing that road isolated that one section from the rest of the city. It might also explain the break in the bus stops nearby.
@Elvissangry massive effort to make it like that. But as you said, it's a matter of taste. I love it ☺️
ahh ha. good catch. %% @BIFFA %% did you fix? Just like I wanted to see if any one else caught it before I made a post. Also @golden knight. I thought the same thing. About the buses. I am on console and very inspired to try my own, Check back with me in cpl years. I have some practicing to do first.
People talking about that road remove at 17:06 but BIFFA you missed a spot on the junctions in the industrial areas. The high road has no node in the middle so the one lane that's merging is forced to immediately take an exit on the next node. Thanks for the constant uploads, you're keeping most of us sane in lockdown
he missed it at first but must have corrected it off video. The flyover towards the end of the video shows vehicles merging into and out of the lane
@youtube actually sucks you can now use node controller mod to add or alter nodes.
OMG no, Hugo inside the diverging diamond at 23:55 is making it impossible for cars to turn left
it's a double crossover merging interchange ;-), But you are still right for making it impossible for cars to turn left
@@edewaal97 a small sacrifice i am sure.
Those who wants to go to the left must make a little bit of a tour.
I thought the same thing, but if you look at the very last view as he's doing a tour of the progress you see at some point he must have corrected it.
This was driving me crazy 😂
@@guydonaldson3222 If I'm not wrong, the one he fixed first is the one now broken, and the others still had it possible for the cars to switch lanes, just as you can see in the end clip.
you have a problem whit fixing the intersections in the Industries. you forcing em to go back to the industrie becaus of a missing node to change lanes. See at 23:56 and so on.
No car is able to leave or enter when he did that, because it now works as a turn around...
sharp
This annoyed me so much 😂
I think this is the reason that suddenly some cars despawned - they just got no way to their target anymore.
Came here to make this comment. Thank you
23:55 You caused a lot of issues here. You made it so trucks were forced on and off. So they no longer took that intersection.
Can't have traffic problems if there is no traffic I guess? Hahahahaha
Biffa botched Hugo at 24:00 with the inner diverging diamond as there are no nodes in between the entrance and exit ramps. So there is no way to go from west to south, nor east to north. I think I've seen this a few other times in other traffic fixes as well.
It's as you say, as a result some vehicles are even despawning. It happens when you force too much 'no lane switching', so there is no legal or sensible way to the target anymore. This might continue forever, removing vehicles constantly until you fix it.
if you look at the last flyover tour part of the video, you can see vehicles merging into and out of that lane especially on the last two diamonds. he must have corrected it off camera at some point
Hugo There: the world's greatest traffic engineer.
And most prolific!

I'm enjoying this so much xDD
I thought it was a jack-knifed tractor trailer. That’s what we call them over here.
Dont you see its super future city. There must be through ground trucks invented
I lost it when he said that. I couldn't stop laughing.
This city looks utterly amazing, practicality obviously has some issues, but it’s honestly one of the most beautifully amazing cities I’ve seen in Cities: Skylines. The creator has done fantastically and has a great eye
Listening to your voice is like listening to birds singing after a tiring day, much love from Greece!
Thank you Panagiotis :-)

I love your music!
Helps me get to bed 😊😂
This city is absolutely beautiful and I believe it can be functional in a Biffa-sense. The first thing I see would be to downgrade 90% of the highways and arterial roads. I rarely see a need for more than 4 lanes anywhere. Smaller roads mean more room to work with for junctions and such. Smaller roads also mean slower speed so merging is easier.
Yeah, these giant 5 lane roads where only 2 middle lanes were used drove me absolutely crazy.
My computer is crying just at the thought of having to run this city. 🤣
my hamsters will die running this city
I think he said oh about 12 months ago that his is 8 core and at least 32gb memory although i think it's more likely to be a bit more (64GB) than that.
From what I understand, at some point (200k+ people) the game starts to have problems running itself. So it technically doesn't matter if u have a 2010 laptop or 2k$ computer, it's gonna be sloooooow... xO
@@stephenhunter70 even 32gig ram pc would still struggle to play this particular savegame since the game can't implement the texture effectively. VRAM capacity of the GPU itself is also one of the main causes of fps drops because the game would try to fill the VRAM the moment you reach 75K population on basic to light modded city. Even lower on medium to heavily modded city.
@@hadifelani Thank you that confirms what I already suspected was the case.
Biffa was nice to provide a link to this city “in case you want to have a go at it yourself.” Hahaha, ya right, and watch your computer go up in flames trying to run it. Next episode will be sponsored by a gaming computer company.
Debating on trying it out. I mean I put a lot of money into my set up, so let’s see what it can do! Lol
I’ll be back in a few after I put out the fire my computer starts. Haha

@@Bendigo1 lol you are very brave
@@gavincline209 So just out if curiosity, what is your setup and how did it perform with this city?
Origin PC
Anyone else spend the whole episode waiting for him to say "Undergroundabout"?
I think it gets all confused when two nodes are on top of each other. Might be why they drove though the floor and why they took turns that were on another level.
"That's it, I've waited 3 weeks on this road, I'm going through the floor."
wow that's some city
Indeed :-)
You always end up with totalitarian horrors in these kinds of games. Check out Magnasanti.
He named iot Hanoi City. Does anyone know if it resembles the original well?
It does explain the uptiered highways above normal roads. Eastasian cities seem to love those.
Anyone else just play these videos in the background while you do other stuff? Biffas voice is so soothing, it’s just 40 minutes of calm, lovely.
When the town planner gets a Spirograph set for Christmas... looks stunning from above, took me awhile to understand just how big it all is as you zoomed in further and further at the start! Some nightmare road junctions in there though with all the flyovers and underpasses etc.
Imagine you get into an accident near the roundabout nobody would be able to locate which overpass you were on...
That’s city is not even fully zoned yet and has 300K people?? Maybe later will get to see Biffa fix the traffic again when the population doubles lol.
The city already finished there is a video showing it, the buildings are taller than before. It looks like 1.2 Million population to me.
And now reporting live from Pokemon City: The pokemons have raided the traffic network.
That central roundabout looks like it was designed with a Spirograph.
Zoomed out this city is beautiful, zoomed in its absolute nonsense. Way too many needless intersections and redundant roads leading nowhere. Elon Musk: “if it’s too complicated, just delete it.” You don’t need roundabouts inside roundabouts if there’s nothing actually zoned there.
Came here to say this, I can make pretty patterns with roads too, but is it really a functional city? I know a lot of people are commenting about how amazing this city is but I am more impressed with function AND form. I would not want to live in a place like this where pavement seems to be added just for the sake of pavement.
That's the classic industrial design philosophy. If it doesn't need to be there, get rid.
Some people just want symmetry, and the price for that is often rather high. Not that I mind...
That was an amazing city but I could feel Biffa's brain twitching from the mess of all those junctions
Indeed :-)
To the creator of this city: awesome job! That is some beautiful geometry and as the camera was zooming in, more intricate details of the geometry show at every level. That's a mathematician's wet dream, probably... haha. Stunningly beautiful.
To Biffa: as usual, thanks for the great content! And I'll check out that metal board which will do great in my tiny home, as I don't have room to accommodate the thickness of regular frames (even the thinnest bord+glass are too thick to be used here). Every mm counts...
This city is amazing. I can barely build a functional grid city let alone this.
It probably helped that it's on infinite money and was on traffic despawn. But I shudder at the thought of what kind of machine you would need to run it smoothly.
There are probably super computers that would crap themselves.
@@kaltaron1284 I think this game is heavily CPU intensive, imagine his temps and the monster cooler he'd need to be able to play for a long time
It is not functional at all. The cost of symmetry is high.
@@TheViettan28 I don't believe that symmetry automatically comes with a cost regarding traffic.
It all depends on the type of symmetry and what kind of shape you are duplicating.
For example a roundabout is very symmetrical but also quite efficient. (The area requirement may be higher than a standard crossroad but it's also safer and smoother. If planned and sized correctly of course but that's a caveat for all traffic planning.)
I would love to see how big you could get this city. It’s a fantastic design aesthetically, if not functionally, and I for one am interested in seeing what a maximized version looks like.
Screw the traffic! This thing is awesome! So beautiful, neat and satisfying. I can't even begin to imagine how it was done either.
What an amazing city design! And thank you Biffa for making my lunchtime enjoyable once again!
Wow I am very quick, never been so quick here after an upload
My pleasure! :-)
Breaking news: a teacher asks a primary one student, "why your maths became so good", "because i watched biffa's traffic fixing video" he answered, he also adviced people to watch biffa to have great improvements. He says lane mathematics taught him and thats all for today.
Hi Biffa,
When you said that it shall be a 2 episodes fix I was happy.
20 minutes into it I was like... Yeah well I'm going to enjoy 3 or 4 episodes...
:-)
Chaos when zoomed out can look like art. Definitely needing a few episodes of fixing. Are you going to check the rails by the industry area? They were backed up also, could be slowing the movement of supplies.
"right up my street."😂😂😂 never heard that one...its right up your ally I thought lmao. Keep up the good work.
33:10 CARS ARE DESPAWNING! BIFFA YOU ARE CHEATING!
Nice city you took to fix. That was a lot of work. Love it mate!
Like I actually said in the video, if you make enough road and TMPE changes, cars will despawn that are now not able to complete their route...listen harder next time ;-)
Biffa I have missed fix your city so much! Glad to see you still do it!
We see why they added the default traffic despawn. I can't believe that I've been watching so many of these videos back to back. It's so oddly satisfying to watch him unclog these roads and solve traffic problems for an entire city. I wish you could come to the state I live in and fix it in real life.
I'm waiting a meteor falls on the intersection.
I was wrong.
"Can withstand a lifetime of intense staring" wow a true technological breakthrough :O
I just can't stop marveling at the city design. I don't know how you're even thinking about traffic and efficiency when looking at something so magnificently artful as this city.
I mean, there's thinking outside the box and then there's this level of creation. The TIME alone!
This video IS a delightful marriage of two excellent obsessions though!
23:55 You create a closed loop for people coming onto the junction, they can only then get off the road because there is no node to switch lane... Great vid!
33:00 "oh my goodness this is like a nightmare...." sums it up quite nicely.... hahahahaha
That city looks like a collection of stuff from the workshop, added all together but with no idea how the game works.... looks like there is soooo much potential in the city, but that stuttering, would drive me crazy!!
When you replaced the off-ramp at 16:15, it removed the lane connections and now nothing can use that off ramp.
Biggest problem on that middle roundabout that was totally messed up was that it had that ”give way” sign OUT of that roundabout so all cars stopped when they were IN that roundabout and that why it got messed so badly as they could get out of it fluently. (Also you destoyed that one huge road when you build that additional node to that highway, so: Good stuff! :P :D )
Oh! And kudos to whoever made that city! Excellent and quite futuristic look on it!
Alien Mothership: "Greetings. We saw your signal."
Whoooo Biffa's getting more sponsors!
Congrats man love the channel
Thank you Michael Richardson :-)
Well well, what a massive city for a massive episode. 100 city fixes. That's a lot of traffic. Looking forward to part II of this one!
I couldn't help but notice that in the industry area, the cars coming onto the highway are stuck in their lane, and must go right back off. They would need another node there.
I think my computer just noped out of here just watching the video. What a project to tackle!
Finally a City Fix episode!
Enjoy :-)
Ditto this!
Agreed! Better than rocks any day :P
The night view of it almost looks like some kind of circuit board.
Your videos are so soothing.. listening to your voice as you build or fix cities is sometimes the only way I can fall asleep (and not in a bad way!!!). Plus I love watching you during the day to learn about this game! Thank you so much for making videos!!
Glad you like them! :-)
Biff, Can I Call you Biff? Any-who. This was the video that got me to become a joined member of your channel.
I'm NOT a member of ANY channel on UA-cam at all. You Sir...are a step above the rest. You're incredibly enjoyable to listen to on top of entertaining as well. The amount of knowledge that I've learned from you to help me play this game...Dude I actually bought the entire package on PC because of watching your channel. As Captain James Hook from the movie Hook said, GOOD FORM!
I THANK YOU and I'm going to continue to keep enjoying your content. Cheers!
Why thankyou kindly and welcome to the channel 👍😁👍
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines got an airport tourist area I built I want to show you. How would I go about that?
At start of the video: What a gorgeous city! At this point in the video: Definitely not vanilla with roads on top of roads, but still gorgeous. Not realistic but gorgeous.
dedicated turning lanes automaticly dont work if you have main line going to the side: ~ 22:00 you just gave them 1 lane to the right where most traffic want to go there and 3 lanes forward.
it works nicely if main lane, and sometimes shared line for up/right + dedicated right can work depending on how much traffic is threre. (turn dynamic lane choice for best effect)
usually one dedicated and one shared is a move for each direction.
Biffa, might I say that trying to figure out traffic alone in MY city is tough enough, but YOUR task here in trying to figure out THIS city's traffic problems seems impossible! 😆 Yet, I must admit that you've become quite the pro in solving a city's traffic problems... 🤔😏
Does anyone else say "no biffa, you made it choker block and now they're being all horkey borkey!" when he misses something or makes a mistake? Like biffa can hear you? Or am I the only one? 😂😂
I think one mistake, is the weird multi roundabout is the putter circle for was purely for taking the immediate exit, not to go all the way round.
That's why it needed upgrading to two lanes when you changed the lane control from right turn only to right & straight on (then too two lanes for right & straight on).
This City is absolutely beautiful.
I like the Idea with the cross overs instead of a classic junction at the diverging diamond.
Since the main road in them is the other one you can flip them 90 degree to get better traffic flow.
Hey Biffa! I usually dont comment often but wanted to thank you very much for the mod list. I thoroughly enjoy! Cities Skylines, but always felt the "Vanilla" experience lacked that "touch" lol. Wanted to definitionally get the major mods such as TMPE and the likes, but still wanted my "unique" touch to my mods, without "copying" every mod you have. Anyways LOVE the Cities SkyLines series, been binge watching your Disaster Series LP's. I have to say you have for sure peaked my interest in cities Skyline once again with the amazing game play commentary and mods!
Looked like a small piece of road got deleleted at 17:06. Is it going to be a problem?
Don't listen to people saying you broke this and broke that. You're awesome for daring to fix this complexity. (The city looks stunning, by the way.)
And, guys, he said there's gonna be a second part. He can observe the effects of his traffic fixing and can then adjust everything accordingly (including the traffic again, if needed). He's just showing how he fixed the traffic in this video. Obviously, he's not gonna leave a map broken only to fix the traffic.
(I'm saying this to those who are just complaining, rather than being helpful.)
Happiness is saying "Ohhh!" at the same time Biffa does when we see the industrial traffic! :-)
This city strikes me as a bit of an extreme example of a problem with a lot of cities that get sent in for Biffa to fix. They consist of isolated neighborhoods or districts , with very few pathways between them. This forces traffic to go through a small number of highly congested corridors, which seem to be the source of most of the issues. I've had good results in my cities by simply extending the major boulevards of my street grid (why yes, I am an American, how did you guess?) over or under my highways, which allows a lot of the traffic to simply filter through the city. The only spots I really have congestion problems are at high demand locations like ports, airports, or separate industrial districts where everyone seems to want to use the highway to get there.
6:26 Moral of the middle: There's never a good reason to bring all 8 highways together. Put a 4-way interchange, some merging space, and then a 3-way interchange on each of the arms. Or just put four 4-way interchanges in a # pattern. Both are cheaper *and* have better traffic flow -- and have plenty of nice symmetry to look fine in an artistic layout like this.
(RichAntDav has a guide on steam testing 8-way interchanges, and it demonstrates this quite clearly.)
A lifetime of avid staring?!?! Damn they're durable :D
On this episode of 'Biffa Plays Traffic Manager' Biffa desperately hopes that lane management and dedicated turning lanes will make the world of difference
Lol yep! :-)
More Biffa and Coffee, perfect Morning yall. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!
Good morning!
I've never enjoyed an ad so much thanks salesman Biffa! 😁
Glad you enjoy it! :-)
Wow!! One hundred episodes of traffic fixing i can remember the 1st one like yesterday
At least we point out what you have missed so you can go back and fix it. Always been a supporter of the channel.
17:08 lets see how long it'll take Biffa to realise he bulldozed that ground level road... That bit missing from that intersection might be why the busroutes are gone?
This is one beautiful city though! The nighttime views are breathtaking and even the diamond interchanges in the farming/forestry areas look artsy in their curvedness!
I really appreciate the time and dedication it must have taken the creator of this city to setup all the geometry with the specific street light colors. Stunning. But wow am I glad I don't have to drive in that traffic! LOL
I'd love you to grow that city to its max.
What will kill it first? The traffic or the game taking 5 minutes to render a car 1 pixel further :)
Love it, keep going, Biffa.
I live in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche in the south of Argentina. The traffic in my city is a nightmare althought the population is only 150.000 people... It would be a dream come true to see someone making Bariloche inside Cities Skylines, and give it to this guy to fix it... I swear to god i would make sure that that video goes to the hands of the traffic manager of the city council
A lot of fixes needed, but let's be honest. The builder put a lot of thought into setting out a visually beautiful city. One of my favourite favourites.
WHAT A CITY, WHAT A CITY!! It is spectacular.
I know it's gonna be very hard to do so, but this city is a marvel of symmetry... so I think that every road up/downgrade should also be made to all the "mirror" roads too (eg at points 11:00, 14:15, 16:20, 22:40 ecc)... It's gonna be challenging, but please, don't mess with the symmetry!!
By the way, at 17:05 the lower deck road is gone
29:02 and 31:39 and such, you added extra lanes for merging instead of decreasing the lanes going in. If you zoom out, you can see it's part of a larger junction, and proper lane mathematics would reduce the number of lanes coming off. (Admittedly, two lanes coming off and then back onto a three-lane highway leaves a section of just 1 lane, which is weird. But in the past, Biffa treated the two lanes coming off as just one. Then when the two lanes merge back with two, he put a temporary stretch of four which goes down back to three.) It really raises red flags with me when I see something getting upgraded to a five or six lane instead of downgrading. No one seems to be mentioning this.
9:45 when you did the dedicated turning lanes thing, you actually made it so that the outer one-lane roundabout can turn left into the inner junction instead of being only for turning off. That's part of why it got so busy at 11:04 where you turned a section of it into a two-lane. I think it'd be better to keep it one-lane and only for turning off. Everyone else should be forced onto the six-lane inner roundabout. Ideally, this would make the outer one-lane roundabout only for a few number of cars, meaning that you can actually have the cars on the outer roundabout yield (I know that might sound counterintuitive at first) to the rest of the traffic, since most of the cars would be trying to get onto the inner roundabout. You can see at 11:50 and 36:29 that they're all backed up because they need to yield to the outer one-lane roundabout, even if no one is on it.
23:52 you need another node in between the on and off ramp or else you'll just force the vehicles that go onto the ramp (on the outer lane) right back off.
17:06 other people have pointed this out
27:28 the white truck behind the green tractor on the right said screw this, this guy is too slow ill take my own route through the air🤣🤣🤣
25:10 Each overpass needs a node in the middle. Otherwise the cars that merge in from the left are obligated to get off again straight away, and also no one on the main road can take the exit.
Someone got an A in geometry....
9:45 when biffa made all the straight only junction to straight and right or left..
17:00 when biffa deleted the wrong roads...
23:54 No node to change lanes..
That made me a lot uncomfortable.. Donno why..
Amazing, I love your videos so much. They add a bit of happiness to even the darkest days!
I'm so glad! :-)
It's a good thing the city looks great. Gives people stuck in traffic something to look at.
Already looking forward to the mass transit fixing. Please also include freigth trains! It looks like they block each other in a bunch of places.
😂😂 this person have deffo been watching you for ages and thought I’ll make a city he can’t fix!! 😂😂🤦🏼♂️ it’s amazing tho loving the videos 😍👍
Looks like you've got vanilla stop lights left right and center in the downtown bits... taking those out whould help a lot...
And you need another node in the middle at 24:00. Otherwise the trucks can only go back to where they came from when joining... (goes for all the other diamond things, too) Which means you're now forcing all out-going traffic through the roundabout in the other way...
Watching further, suddely at 36:50 you can tell the joining Hugo-there's have been taken, suddenly making the previous point moot. :p
Good afternoon. Big big fan!!! Yrs, would like to see you expand this city. NOTE!!!... That large round-a-dout, where you had to add a knod by placing a temporary road on the top level...you accidentally deleted the 6 lane 2way road below. That's why you now have died bus stops... lol... With that said, happy city building and bless you and your family.
At the 17 minute mark when you add then delete a small road to add a node, you accidentally delete a section of the avenue on the ground. This later may be the cause of some broken transit lines because of how traffic is limited.
This is an amazing city fix. I definitely would like to see how it goes further. Because I think that this can run smoothly. Even that you have missed a few Hugo theres and lane mathematics. ;)
And also missed the city fixes in general :)
Thank you Ronald v. Egdom :-)
congratulations on reaching episode 100!
Actually, I play vanilla Cities and you can solve most traffic issues without causing despawns.
You just need to separate traffic flows and slow down traffic where needed, for example most of my industry is funneling one way traffic from one side to the other over dirt roads into train stations.
My current grid masterpiece is sitting at 94% traffic flow, I generally build decoupled overhead roundabouts with ramps going to the sides into one-way ramps down into town. This grid city has two roundabouts, I place most of the heavy demand services near the roundabouts like incinerators and force the industry traffic to go outward by train. Use commercial zones to shield residential from pollution etc. The garbage trucks do not go onto the roundabouts, they get their own road going right into their respective districts (usually two sides).
This city really needed some train stations to pick up stuff from the industrial zones!
A great city! I really like it and I'd like to see at least a second video on it. With cargo trains and mass transit and growing... 😍 Well done!
10:00 noooooo you added turning!!
Looks awesome probilem i always have with cities though is lile irl if trafic was that bad people wouldnt queue in one lane they would take other routes.
Definitely interested in seeing you expand this city
Really looking forward to seeing where you take this project!
love seeing this series in my youtube feed
For that 'roundabout' you can change the road first using the tool from the road info window (where you rename them) to make all segments as the same road. Then TM PE should pick it up correctly.
I'm loving those no-weave diverging diamonds in the industrial area! Pity escape is impossible when entering from the reversed segment
One of the most beautiful city I have ever seen 😍.... Love the layout an design.
