City Builder here👋
I seriously regret naming the city districts ironically Fortnite. But thanks for the fix Biffa!
Hi, thanks for submitting the city. I didn't even notice the names lol :-)
Apored find ich noch schlimmer :/
was there tomato town?
I mean, Schwarwald for the tree farms was cute though.
Hamburg City Altona. I can see that from here.
Switch the way they turn so they don't cross traffic: forgets cars are actually driving on the right side of the road... Oh Biffa..
Thought the same. I suppose it's a mental stretch building cities with right-hand traffic while living on the left-hand traffic UK.
oops
@@Johnnyybbee I agree although I must say Biffa usually does a good job with it, probably because he's mostly built his cities with right-hand traffic.
not the right side. the correct side :P
@@stimpyueediot nah left is best (in every sense of the word) ;)
Ferries! Between the mainland and the islands! Ferries! Between the islands! Ferries!!!!
My version of this map has Ferries to all of the islands
Small note: I hate ferries irl, at least in my area. Gotta wait ages for them sometimes and they're so expensive!
Ferries day off
Cool to see a city from a German guy.
easily visible by the naming of his Districts xD
Aren't all European countries mostly mixed- use zone?
@@li_tsz_fung maybe, idk. I was reffering to the district names (German cities).
@@faysala8618 Such as Fortnite Merch
@@social_elmo2739 Yes, but when I play cities skylines, the layout is always hugely influenced by my local environment.
So I can't imagine how German people build a city with very separated zones. (Although my early saves are more affected by the in game tips, resulting in generic grid city with 6 lane roads everywhere
This looked like a road to hell paved with good intentions. TMPE settings everywhere, spaghetti junctions, bypasses, extra lanes, ... Glad that you were able to fix most of it because at its core this 80k city isn't horrible. I'm guessing with some of the tips in this comment section (mixed zoning, more public transport, more pedestrian paths, more redundancy) their next city will be great!
I’m surprised Biffa didn’t add more local roads / bridges over the highways. It was forcing people onto the highways if there weren’t easy ways to connect to different parts of the city
Seriously. Absolutely no pedestrian or bike connections either so everyone had to drive and get on the highway. Makes no sense. You can definitely tell that Biffa drives everywhere IRL.
This city really needed a Biffa traffic fix too :D
I have been watching your fix videos for about half a year, to the point where I have started to overenthusiastically exclaim "HORKY BORKY!", "DEDICATED TURNING LANES!" and "LANE MATHEMATICS!" in actual real-life traffic. I have finally bought the game, installed all the mods, and now my first city is constantly at a steady 85-90%. Thank you for the tips Biffa, enjoy your cuppa tea.
Another fun fix, and a great example of what some good mass transit can do.
One suggestion for the user that I haven't seen in the comments is to connect the islands with a few bridges/tunnels, and use the waterways for some ferry routes. That would go a long way toward taking some pressure off of the highway, and particularly that one roundabout that seems to handle the bulk of the city's traffic.
I look forward to a couple biffa cities skylines videos every week and the days when they do come out it’s very entertaining yet relaxing to watch in the morning :) thank you for all the hard work keep it up
You're welcome :-)
That lane management is the tipic Biffa mistake when you get distracted speaking, but in every single highway/node ahahah
Good fix and beat as always . Nice to ear on the background. ahah
Ah, I love community city fixes! A great example of how TMPE doesn't just magically solve traffic problems. Reminds me of a city I once built specifically to avoid any kind of traffic jams, with intricate one way systems, lane mathematics etc., everything thought out. Turned out to be the worst city I ever built. Garbage trucks were unable to find efficient routes to all the neighbourhoods, endless streams of trucks ran through quiet neighbourhoods because the intended route took too long, etc. Had to abandon it eventually.
Options, traffic needs loads of options to get anywhere. If they do, a few wonky junctions won't need to process that much traffic and give you some leeway in designing them.
Very educative as always Biffa.
It's so good to see all this metro lines working properly. Nice fix ☺️
So glad to see the fix your city throwback!! These are like ASMR for me and always super calming to watch!
I was screaming at the screen: make a pedestrian connection from the harbor it's way too far to the metro station!!!!! amazing fix, went up from 20% to almost 90%? brilliant!
Before you add lanes to a road in order to fix a traffic jam, try this one trick: imagine Biffa just appeared in front of you and is demanding an explanation. If you can't cite a specific way it would help (other than More Lanes = Less Traffic), don't do it!
Literally the M6 in the West Midlands most times of the day a car park espeically at Rush hours and that then clogs up other major arterial routes this city is like that before you fixed it
Cause you prefer not to mess with city design and save yourself some time, there are cases like this one, were the city does not have proper road herarchy.
For a city like this I'd go with a different approach and repurpose some roads (mod roads to avoid destroying city layout)
The lack of connections between sections is overloading the usage of nearby highways.
Again, nice work done as always. Hats off.
Biffa, at @18:30 you made the turnon/turnoffs the wrong way :p
Yeah saw that after...oh well still worked :P
Mass Transit and giving your citizens options to get to multiple locations by various means is crucial in a city design like this. Imagine if you had Varsity Sports or Concerts! The city would be totally chock-a-block. Give them options and use good road hierarchy.
It really is incredible how much traffic backs up when you turn despawn off. My city is 71% traffic with 207k people. For fun, I hit the don't despawn button... I bottom out at 34%, and now my percentage is coming up... but population has dropped to 120k.
Coming back up now... around 45% with only 92k, and still shrinking!
Sounds like I shouldn't ever touch that button again...
Great fix Biffa. You could have used walking paths in a few places, though.
does anyone know what the name of the map is? I want to build on it and cant seem to find it
Don't known if you know barney but you made train stops look like a big purple dinosaur lol
Watching you undo traffic is like watching someone untie a knot but it’s somehow therapeutic… I can’t explain why it is
"Counterclockwise"? What mythical language is this?
It's "Anticlockwise"!
It has to be because it's got a 'tea' in it!
Clearly Auntie Clockwise is on vacation.
@@lostwizard his giddy Auntie Clockwise...
Biffa is too nice. That was a travesty of an attempt of a city
That's one hell of a fix. Great job biffa!
Thank you Fernie Edrian Vidal :-)
Overlapping the 3 metro lines will slow them down, I'd have added another stop across the road to separate at least 1 of the 3 lines...
Also would have continued the motorway straight across the giant roundabout and connect it where you built the new through road...
Your city fixes are what got me on your channel. I enjoy the problem solving. If you enjoy making this sort of content I would love to see more :)
You put a slip lane in,
You take a slip lane out,
in, out, in, out, you shake it all about
The traffic's hawky-bawky so you build a round-a-bout...
It’s funny, seeing a district named like a small town (völklingen) near my also small hometown(Saarbrücken) in Germany
Biffa, I think there were some hidden stop signs on the roundabouts - looks like every vehicle stops even if it's clear? Not sure. Also I was crying out for you to add more roads between the two commercial areas as there was just one in the middle linking them
Nice job! Turned out better than I thought possible.
I love these videos. If this doesn't make him retire, nothing will.
I think you might need to pay more attention to road speed limits. The problem with using "highway" roads all over the place is that they are usually 80km or 100km, where as the "bypass" roads are usually 40k to 50k, so sims will still prefer to use the high speed roads and not always your bypasses roads.
My soul enjoys when you put metro lines and they work amazing
Maybe it's just me, but I felt a bit cheated that Biffa used the clear all traffic option. Part of the fun of watching these traffic fixes is seeing that gradual improvement over time and seeing how traffic flow is increasing. Clearing all the traffic felt like skipping to the end of the fix, so it was less fun for me to watch.
For this one it was soo ooooh bad I'd have to sit at the PC for hours watching it clear 1 car at a time.....yeah. No time for that! 😉
That's a content I subscribed for!😄😃
where is it gonna go? oh "round the outside" lol love all your content hahaha
Biggest issue looks like it was highway through traffic cutting through the city on the way to another destination. Lower speed limits on the city highway or higher speeds on the bypass would avoid the issue.
Hello everybody welcome back oops I'm welcoming myself again 😁😂 I'm here again!! Thanks biffa!
Welcome back!
This series needs a comeback
Sounding a little congested, my friend. Take care of yourself and get some rest. None of us can do without BIFFA.
Imagine how much the traffic flow you could already have increased by just building some roads/walkways to cross the highway between the districts...
That cluster of water pumps by the end of that one roundabout that was dipping into pollution bothered me the entire video.
I would try to connect boroughs with simple roads perpendicular to highways. This would probably stop funneling traffic into crowded highways and their exits.
I think this is the first traffic fix in a long time that Biffa didn't mention checking to see if all the roundabouts were set up properly. Even if they already were proper, I expected him to mention it.
this can be considered as one of your greatest masterpiece , master
One thing that always bothered me... the Network Extensions 2 and 4 lane look horrible, but the Mass Transit DLC 2 and 4 look fine.
Well... another huge issue is that many of what should be collectors are built as highways, so the slow entrance of vehicles on short on ramps slows the highway traffic.
I dont even play this game anymore for like a year ago. I just like watching how u solve it and think why the hell are u not a traffic management job in my city mine that needs all of this in real life.
One thing I don't understand is that you always make loops for the metro. In my very small experience, metros actually move in a line with a start point and an end point.
In my cities I reproduce that, and so I have one very same metro line that go back and forth on the same path with a terminal at each end.
Loops are fine, but there should be two for each loop, one going clockwise and the other going counterclockwise.
Should have increased the speed on the new 4-lane road highway to actually get people using it more.
Yes. Or just built it as a 2+2 national road, seeing as that's what it's being used as.
Finally a city fix!!!! Thanks biffs for all these videos :)))
Best Fix in my opinion so far. City looks really nice and episode was fun to watch.
I've learned so much from watching your fixes. Subscribed and liked. Greetings from Norway.
I was so happy when this appeared in my sub box :)
Yay Fix your city! Love these Biffa 🙏
Love me a good city fix! Nice job Biffa 🤗
19:00 Extend the collector road straight away to the highway
Haha the district ApoRed and city Altona are my favorites
Fellow Germans understand 😂
I used to think this is just a game. This is SERIOUS BUSINESS.
The before and after montage was 10/10
Thank you minimilla :-)
12:05
This is exactly the biggest problem with this game's AI. The cars don't know how to spread out.
The AI only minimizes distance, but they really should be minimizing travel time. Only then would they know to spread out into different possible paths instead of everyone crowding into the same path.
And that would also be more realistic.
This is my single biggest dissatisfaction with the game.
I like the editing at the end!
"I need more lanes" and it does all worse - reality of city management for my country
i think the *lane connecter spamming problem* is maybe, because he used the roundabout rules for the highway 'ctrl shift left click' i hope you get what i try to say.
i used it once in my grid downtown and didn't realise, there would be no more turning left allowed. maybe its a thing, we should rule out
Can't believe I just heard someone that isn't Alex The Rambler say giddy aunt
Hooray for Fix Your City!
Love the music.Keep up the great work.
Hey @Biffa, not sure what going on. although my assumption would be YT compression issues being Horky Borky and all. But I noticed at several points in the video of strange flickering black and green bars.
Was all ok this end, maybe refresh the page ;-)
Thank you so much for your videos, about how to solve traffic. But I got a question. In this video you jusmp on changing road, streets and such, and when all that is set, you turn your attention to mass transit.
Could it be, if you had started out making the Metro system as it was in the end from the beginning, would had solved most, so you would had saved time changing the streets?
Gotta love a good traffic fix.
I think thats a pretty good fix. Thumbs up!
love the good old fix!
Great to fix back. Great chance to learn new things!
Me who though their 73% traffic with 65,000 population was bad •_•
Zoning blocks that are too big and ZERO collector roads, ZERO neighborhood to neighborhood connections. I want to see Biffa solve traffic in a city like this without touching the highway system. Hell, I want to see Biffa solve traffic in a city like this just using bike and walking paths.
I want to see Biffa solve traffic with no keyboard and mouse and with his eyes closed!!! AND he's not even in the same room!!!!!!!! :P
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines lmao
This city looks strikingly similar to my first city--before Biffa fixed it.
;)
Haha I just noticed some district names. Ein Saarländer!
I really loved his city... The map was also very pretty. What map was (s)he using for that savegame?
Nearing the end of my current city (unless I send it to Biffa because with despawn off it's a disaster... with despawn it's at 70% tho, not too shabby) and looking for my next new map.
So if I could have the map's name, that would be nice. Nice work on that one Biffa.
No idea sorry and thanks 👍😁
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines HAHA ! found it. Was looking at your video again and this time paying very close attention to the terrain.
Map seems to match "Honu Island" a stock map that came with the Park Life expansion. Well there you go.
Now I just need to reorder my mods some and see what I want to do for this city. Cheers !
Hey guys, have any of you had a problem with strange stagnation and demand using the latest realistic population 2.0 mod? I have a repeated anomaly where I have installed it, and my last 3 cities never have industrial demand. At all. Like I'm at 55k, making 35k profit, with zero industry or office. My happiness shows 98 for residential, 83 for commercial and 0 for industrial and office because I just don't need them, and they end up abandoned if I do try and zone them. There's always an absurd demand for commercial, and residential has just stalled. I get +200 or 300 for a few minutes, then lose a few hundred, which continues for days until I give up. I've been at 50kish for a week now, and the cities are just self managing perfectly. The tweets are all just people going on about how perfect the city is, yet noone moves in. I have two harbours, with ships overlapping themselves, I gain +400, then lose +400. If I zone more commercial I get the lack of uneducated workers problem, and nothing happens.
I've never had profit like this with zero industry. I don't know where the money is coming from bar tax. I'm only taxing commercial 9%, and residential 9 and 10%, but I'm making a consistent 30-40k. Lowering taxes to 5% doesn't increase demand either.
Traffic mod, move it mod, lane mods, anarchy mod.
*cries in console*
did I miss a 1c5b episode or do you do this in between
I get that map once every 5 weeks as there's 5 of us :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Yes I know but you said yourself at the end of the video in the next episode ... so I thought there will be 1 more before he goes to the next I assumed you were going to switch areas again the next round your videos are still top notch do not see this as a negative comment, it just wondered 😁😁😁
Junctions next to junctions next to junctions? Tunnels to get around the junctions? But those tunnels actually come out AT the junctions they are otherwise supposed to bypass? Just looking at the map gives me a headache.
I would like to see more videos fixing traffic in vanilla mode please
lol, most of the names for the residential areas used in this cities i know, its small towns in southwest germany, close too the boarder to france and luxemburg. (saarland). i am living there.
I voted for both because of the pro tips for starting and maintaining a city, but watching city fixes shows me what to look for if it still doesn't run smoothly 🤔
Hey Biffa. Is it possible to salvage old save when some assets (streets) are missing? I haven't played in over a year and when I load my city its missing bunch of streets. And that was really good city with ~200k people and ~80% traffic with no despawning enabled! Is there a way to find out what mods are missing?
Now I have to find a video why putting this many metro stops close is a good thing....
\o/ no despawning :P mornin boss
o/
This city really did a 180°
Was gonna call you out for nuking the population from 79k to 40k and calling it a day...
...but the pop was actually up to 80k when you ended the video.
Turns out there was no chicanery with these chicanes. :D
Dang that traffic was big on the Tumpnail but when I clicked I thought it was fake but Waaaaaaaaaaaas I won’t that is just bad traffic .
Doesn't seem very safe to ride those personal electric vehicles on a highway
just put one stop down and make a bus rout to the metro.then it cost effective.
good video Biffa 👍
I have a question about the game. Are you able to specify which public transport is free to use? Let's say I want to charge for busses but have the metro be free to use. Is there a way to do that? Is there a mod that offers that?
I know theres a "free transportation" policy, but i dont want all my public transportation to be free. Thanks in advance.
