Just put a set of 2.6” X 29” 45 North Wrathchild studded tires on my Cutthroat (a 60cm Apex 1 model). They fit just fine…maybe 3/8” clearance on each side of the rear, with plenty on the front. I’m doing some testing by way of running them at 45psi at present…but would like to see how clearance is affected when pressure is dialed down. 45 north says that I need 25mm rims at the least “25-40mm wide rims (29)”…so we’ll see how well they stay on my stock rims, which are 23mm “WTB ST i23 TCS 2.0 32h”. I’m more concerned with winter traction than I am ride comfort. We shall see! I’ll provide an update if I think of it…they seemed to have seated pretty well…ting ting ting! Now…on to my next project…fenders.
This as a big help - I am thinking of going to 2.35 on rear of my Cutthroat, but these are Schwalbe G one Speed which should be good for long road touring mounted tubeless.
Any issues with the 2.6" tire on the stock rim? What pressure are you running it at? Planning on doing a similar swap on my cutthroat, but concerned that the rims are too narrow!
Hi, I', running the front at 25psi and the rear at 30psi. I did find that while cornering more aggressively on tarmac that there was a squirming feeling as if the tire was moving side to side on the rim. However, it is not noticeable on gravel and not so bad that it felt unsafe. Overall, I'm happy with the result. Thanks for watching!
@@vancouvercyclist The squirming is generally due to the rim being too narrow for that size tire, which changes the tire shape to squared vs round and rolls the tire over in turns. The Cutthroat comes with i23 (23mm internal), which is way too narrow for a 2.6 (and even the 2.2's really)... a 30mm would be ok (pretty standard for mountain bikes) but a 35mm internal would be better for that setup. Hope this helps and be safe on your trip! Don't push the bike too hard or that 2.6 may roll off the rim. Time for some new carbon wheels :-)

@@outbackwack368 even 27mm would be ok for 2.6 tires , I see them on 35mm wide rim and shape of the tire is to flat at the middle 27- minimum ,28 ok ,30mm is max for this size

I’ve probably got a couple hundred miles on it now…running 30 psi…no problems of yet!
