Nicely done Richard! I used to use the clutch (mostly) on RR boxes when I drove them back in the 90's ..its there for a reason ...as you say! What a lovely old girl and that is certainly an "Aussie" cab that I remember as a young fellow down here. Very nice driving and smooth gentle changes...takes me back and I miss the gear changing . Thanks for the ride! Cheers Gregg.
imaculate truck great video brings back so many memories when i used to go away with my dad in the 70 s nights out in an albion the good old days and the smell of diesel
What a lovely truck you’ve restored that Cummins sounds great , my dad drove an Atkinson with a 220 Cummins you could hear him coming for miles ,his dog could hear him before anyone else and would go and sit down the drive waiting for him
Absolutely cock on Richard. Fantastic clear hi-definition video and that sound of the hummin Cummins is music to the ears. It’s just nice to see you getting some miles in however much it costs. Hats off to the film crew too….😉
Would have cost you a few pounds to container it back to Blighty? Most of them in Australia had the Gardener diesel in them. "Doncaster" on the door, is that Doncaster in Melbourne or in the UK? Great restoration, you done the old truck proud. Atkinson, Foden, Bedford, Commer and Leyland were once big in Australia but when Volvo, Scania, MAN and Mercedes Benz arrived that was the sunset for the British trucks.
Doncaster in the U.K. it was many years ago now and the price of a container was much cheaper. Still it was quite a lot resting on it for a working man. As I only got the cab I think it was originally on a 8 71 as there was two vent holes for the air cleaner. Funny how things changed around back then. I think that they were thought of as good reliable old buses. Thank you for you kind words.
It’s Shameful To See New Trucks With Huge Engines Sat At 56mph & No Manual Gears To Keep You On Your Toes & To Work The Truck. It Becomes Your Best Friend. Lovely Job On That Beautiful Truck My Friend !!!
Love to know more about the Atki, what year is it, what was it used for in Australia, what condition was it in and what have you done to it since. Clearly had extensive restoration since it looks immaculate.
Cheers for your comments. Yes I do plan on doing a video with facts and photos and how it all came about at some point soon. I do no very little history of the cab in Australia, but it’s not because I have not tried too. Just dead end leads
Can I ask a question from Australia, what was buggered about the fiberglass cab? is it a 290 cummins? I'm just smirking, it's a pommy truck back in England doing Aussie shit on the road!! Now that is something!!
Inside the fiber glass there is metal and wood. Both were in very poor condition and some had to be replaced. All the door cards had to be re made as they had rotted away. It had also a mast hole where someone had ripped open lifting the cab. I will do a video at some point. It’s the little 220 12l Cummins. Needs lots of Rev to make it go properly. Thanks for your comment
Nice i had one in austrailia but it had a 180 gardener in it 15 speed over drive box road ranger and double drive it was a tipper later i put in a 335 cummins and my 15 od box road ranger and turd it in to a prime mover or tractor unit good old thing then later i got a scania iam from cumbria uk but mam moved us out to oz in 1982 i was 12 now 55 ther as always been trucks and drivers in my family for ever my mams cussin is jeff thursby from carnforth but i dont think they had much to do with each other ok love your atki you shud get on glass cab atkinson austrailia i still look for my old girl just in case its still out ther thank you
These are a great old truck I drove one for many years down here in Australia, Just one thing why are you pumping the throttle to start it is a fuel-injected engine.
And he pumps the bloody accelerator when starting the engine? Apparently this cummins engine doesn't have an injector pump. First cummins diesel engine with a carburettor I suppose. FFS.

Looks like so much fun to drive that wagon. ❤
Put's a smile on my face watching the video Richard, Sam say's it's immaculate inside credit to you .

Absolutely awesome that, done well getting it fixed up too. Don’t see too many of them left now even here (aus), they were properly tough trucks.
The grin says it all 😂
Great! Good memories. Nicely filmed!
She sounds beautiful, brings back memories of driving a 290 gardiner in a Seddon Atkinson.👍
The cab looks similar in some ways to a scammell crusader .
Beautifully restored truck and the Cummins sounds great 👍
Many say that. If first came out in around 1967 so they were some time before.
Lovely lorry, amazing restoration 👍
Thanks that bought back memory's of when I was a kid and of my dad.
I used to drive Atkis/Fodens/ERF back in the day with that engine/box combo, loved the road ranger, used to drive all day and hardly use the clutch.
What a splendid lorry, thank you for sharing.
That truck need to be in a museum
Why is that?
@@Mr_b_yorkshire_farmer it a piece of history duh
Better out on the road being used and enjoyed, duh.

That was mint, great sounding wagon.
Great resto job and great sound .. nearly love it as much as the coal board Atkinson
Nicely presented truck , at least no one will harass you on your outings, size matters
Lovely old beast.
What a great truck, superb condition.

From the u.s, that is a beautiful old truck very nice sounding Cummins
Cheers. Thank you for your comment.
Your welcome
Nothing sounds quite like a Cummins ❤
Love Atkinson's I worked at Seddon Atkinson in Clayton Victoria Australia that was back in 70s I all so drove a Kigcab Atkinson for work
Very nice, enjoyed that little run out 👌🏻

Drivers these days are nothing more than steering wheel attendants.
That's a fair dinkum proper truck.
Saw this at kelsall last year, credit to you 👍🏼
Cheers. We plan on a trip to Llandudno this year.
You’re talking about the great Peter Lynch - he is a great guy! He wrote a book about the Australian International ACCO as well
Nice to that humming cummins, great
Love a Cummins 220

Great fun Richard. (Any chance of subtitles being enabled? Couldn't make out what you were saying over the roar of the Mighty Cummins)
I can look and see
Don't think you can do it retrospectively.
I think it's something you do before uploading.
ISTR most of your previous videos had subtitles.
Thank you.

I always have. It seems to like it.
No aircon back in the day? Christ thay would have been an absolute sweat box hell hole in an Ozzie summer. Hard lads then.
The heat of driving across WA... on washboard dirt roads!
Beautiful truck
Looks like fun what mpg are you getting
With the trailer on I would say 6 to 8mpg.
@@Mr_b_yorkshire_farmer Eeeeek! 8 mpg!!
Camera crew is 👌🤭
Yea definitely. Got some really good angles in the cab.
A real lorry/truck...unlike the 'modern' shite....
Put a trailer on the old lady and she will still manage a day's hard work

@@williamhumphrey9766 quite clearly has no idea what he is doing to start an engine he has started 100 of times
Great sound of engine and smooth gear changes but todays snowflake’s drivers wouldn’t be able to do all the clutching and double clutching
Flying machine.
I never heard of an Atkinson. Very nice video on it
Are you not on TikTok anymore?
No. It’s not the place for me.
@@Mr_b_yorkshire_farmer shame as that’s where I first came across you but I understand. Keep smiling
This is not vintage. I was 12 years old when I bogged one of these
It's not vintage, just old.
Aren't you a joyous presence.
Yep!
