    This is the 1st video on Potentiometers (and Rheostats) that actually has an accurate description of what a rheostat is , and why a potentiometer is used as a voltage divider, not as a variable current device. Voltage only drops in a resistor is if there is a load at the far side of the resistor. Try it with a sensitive meter,... even 10 million ohms of resistance shows no voltage drop at the far side of the resistor if there is no load to ground, (except the voltmeter) at the far side of the resistor.

    awesome video , I have always been intimidated by electrical problems because I did not understand it so now I'm trying to learn as much as I can by watching your video's and it is starting to make more sense , plus it's starting to be fun as a bonus.

    Hello profesor I have some unusual problem.
    Im currently trying to build me own ignition system.
    How ever evry thing is fine for now.
    But I have problem Im useing old GM stile 4 pin ignition module and I have inductive puck up coil 2wires comeing out of that thing.
    So what I wanted to try out to finde some thing that can delay ore advance that signal comeing from that pick up coil in hoppe so I do not need to get out of me car and fumel with the distributor rotation.
    So any advice please how to handel this?
    That thing has analog to digital converter inside that 4 pin gm ignition module.
    So Im not shure what to use for it Im awoiding damageing me equpment .
    Honestly I dont have any money so I scrap parts from old computers tvs radios micro wave oven's etc.
    So hoppely you can help me .

    What is the preferred source to obtain the tool and book. I've seen a few websites selling "LOADpro" products including Amazon. I'm assuming this test equipment would be safe to use with my Fluke 233?

    My setup calls for a 35K ohm pot. Can I use a higher value such as 40 or 50K. If I do, what will happen?
    Will I prevent signal from leaving amp and damage components in my amp? Thanks.

    • @bivideo7
      @bivideo7  4 роки тому

      It shouldn't matter if you have a slightly higher resistance pot. Lower *could* be an issue but not likely if you stay close.

    • @westbay5858
      @westbay5858 4 роки тому

      @@bivideo7 Thanks. It is a volume pot connected to a 1958 amp inside my Jukebox. I can't find a 35K ohm stereo (double gang) pot anywhere. That is why I was checking. If I could, I would like to stay at 35K.

    • @bivideo7
      @bivideo7  4 роки тому

      @@westbay5858 It's possible to do the parallel math to see what size resistor you'd use across terminals 1 and 3 to reset it to 35KΩ. Do you know how to do that? (1/35000) - (1/50000) = 1/x = 116666 - a 120KΩ should work... Do the math and see if you can make it work. You can email me at dan@brighterideas.com and I'll send the picture of the math if that helps.

    Which meter do you recommend our of the two? Do you think fluke meters are worth the money? I see hundreds of meters out there and understand they will all get the job done. Just not sure what makes one the best.

    So when you adjust the potentiometer you are also changing total current?

    • @bivideo7
      @bivideo7  2 роки тому

      Minimally, to the signal, but it's not the point. V÷Ω=A always works.

    Unlike Obama's videos Dan, yours are useful for something. What a great illustration
    showing the motor speed going down and the amperage going up. Seeing it and reading the meter is a very effective way to teach this. Good stuff!!!
    Ryan, I have a ESI 585 meter myself but you can get the TMX-589 with includes
    Dan's book and the Loadpro. Check eBay . ESI stuff is good quality.

    Dan I have almost always enjoyed your videos and the educational content in the past; however, since you have returned I have been disappointed in #1 the camera
    work. It has been too close a shot ie (Potentiometers), bouncing around a fumbling around looking for some item that should have been at the ready and the videos appear to have been choped off from another longer video session. If you review your recent videos I think you will be self critical as well. Your too smart a guy to settle for less than great info and great viewing.
    PS. I am awaiting delivery of your Loadpro and the (FET) Manual.
    Thanks in advance....
