Load pro is an awesome product and the Voltmeter only method of diagnostics works. I am a professional Transit Bus Tech with 17 years of experience and electrical and electronic diagnostics is one area I do quite a bit of work in. I'm Master Ase Certified Transit Tech with L2 certification also. I have been using Dan's tool since 2009 and it hasn't failed me. If you use Dan's tool and method you will without a doubt a more competent and efficient electrical tech.

I couldn’t figure out what I needed. This or a “power probe”. Honestly I was more skeptical of this tool than the load pro. Mainly because I have never understood circuits. Well I got both and now I’m just pissed about all the complicated garbage people tried to teach me about troubleshooting a DC circuit problem over the past 20 years (I’m 38) After using both tools, the load pro is so easy and really all you need. Sullivan is awesome. He’s like Eugene Stoner whoe designed and built the longest serving US service rifle- a shop guy who is smarter than all the school trained engineers. And we should all be pissed about how corporations and their attorneys screw the real Americans over in this country. As a modern day farmer where circuits are my biggest headache, this load pro and Dan’s videos are a game changer. I’m waiting get his book but should be here this week. Thanks Dan
I would just like to take a moment and thank you for making the loadpro, I bought it to find a fault on a 2001 skoda. The ac clutch had system voltage until loaded, loaded it dropped and it was the positive side the problem was on, turned out to be a corroded fuse. Thank god I had the loadpro to help me on the way :)

Dan, This video/presentation is almost 8 years old and IS the BEST by far!!!!! I am 54 years old and I have been a Ford Dealership Technician since 1987. I achieved Ford Senior Master status in 1999, with my specialty being in drivability, electrical and vehicle electronics. That all stated, you TOTALLY NAILED every point!!!!! From the beginning, describing just how Service Managers act regarding electrical/electronic diagnostics......to the manual fiasco.......to circuit diag. SPOT ON my friend!! SPOT ON!!!! I literally just ordered a "LOADPro" from Electronic Specialties (Model 180) for use with my Fluke 88. You did a WONDERFUL thing by developing and creating this EXCELLENT tool. Guys make electrical/electronics diagnosis WAY TOO difficult. It is not "magic", it IS knowing how to read and interpret schematics, and knowing the system you are diagnosing. Excellent video and understanding of the circuit. Really Electrical problems are simple in nature if one knows electrical and know how to troubleshoot electrical circuit. Otherwise without following rules and understanding it is a big pain. Regards,
After watching this video I realize that I do not ask "What is wrong with it?" when inquiring about a vehicle my apprentice mechanics are working on. I ask "What is is doing or not doing?" They may not know what is wrong with it but may be able to tell you what it is doing or not doing that is abnormal for it. Then I will have a better understanding of what the problem may be and lead them in the right direction if I have experienced that problem in the past. BTW, I have the LOADpro and I would recommend the book (Fundamental Electrical Troubleshooting) with it. The book will show you test and different scenarios in a simple to understand format. As a retired nuclear submarine mechanic on nonnuclear equipment, I know were you’re coming from. I invent all kinds of tools to help me get the job/task done. Would you believe after creating a tool that changed the task from 8hrs to 30mins was frowned upon by other workers because it meant they had to go somewhere else to work on i.e. “milking another job”! Understanding how everything is integrated is paramount! When an entire naval shipyard couldn’t figure out what was the problem, I crawled all over looking for the problem while it was being operated & in less than one hour found the culprit which needed repairing. Many submarines weren’t going anywhere until I diagnosed the situation and told them what to do or fixed it myself. I could go on and on with many more situations in which people weren’t telling/giving all the facts that was needed to figure out the discrepancy.
I have been doing mechanical work all my life. I was always somewhat intimated by electrical problems. When my son began taking classes I forced myself to Learn to read diagrams and electrical theory and cannot tell you what a huge difference it has made. Simply knowing the way things work makes the job so much easier.
DC is easy. it amazes me how few people can actually do DC work. Even very good mechanics... I was the dang go to electric guy at my old shop and i had all of basic dc circuits under my belt at that point.

I'm a very hard learner and had lots of trouble in my school years. Im 29 now and I've just recently say in the last year really gained the confidence to expand my brain with knowledge instead up putting up barriers within myself and say things like, "I hate electrical, im horrible at it i'd rather pay then do it myself its confuses me too much" I've also had a pretty life changing year for myself to give myself the oppertunity to teach myself through youtube doing my own projects while watching. Tho I understand the use of the powerprobe better, I understand you and learn from what you say. I just ordered my power probe and have no experience before hand with one. I think these are completly different tools but can be related like a 2nd cousin. They both are great products from what i have heard. Thank you for your contributions to the industry sir! =)
I used a loadpro for the first time today to find an open wire on a abs sensor harness. It worked great and allowed me to find the problem fast. I look forward to watching more of these videos and using the tool in place of my meter leads.
Dan thanks, great revision of an old video. Your invention ROCKS. I encourage every new tech to get one and hone their electrical diagnostic skills, because every system on a modern vehicle has some form of electrical circuit associated with it. I'll admit I am old school and know that a good understanding of Ohms Law and how to perform voltage drops on a live circuit are all you need to find your problem. I have done it and know it works when performed correctly. Unfortunately not too many techs use the voltage drop method or know how. I own a test light/voltmeter and it has served me well. Now you tested the positive side of the fan motor with a test light/voltmeter and read source voltage because the circuit was not complete. Plug the fan motor in and test it again and you will see a different result. Ha ha you know that. Next place your test light / voltmeter from the fuse to the fan motor and that would give you the voltage drop indicating a problem. Ha ha you know that too. Now you would have spent a whole lot of time performing voltage drops at various locations on the circuit removing who knows what. Yes you said that as well. Now you did mention that using the test light/voltmeter in an UNLOADED circuit is useless. On that we are in sync. We are also in sync in that your invention simply put is a no brainier. Not much thought, Not much time wasted and No scratching your head thinking did you {mis} something. Ha ha. I am proud to say that I own a LOAD PRO. Now I did say I am old school and break out my test light/voltmeter ( creature of habit ) or Alzheimer's but windup putting it back for the LOAD PRO. Now the true difference between a test light/voltmeter and the LOAD PRO is that an UNINFORMED tech/person can use a LOAD PRO with a higher degree of accuracy and efficiency. Which by the way may have others thinking your competent. I like my test light/voltmeter but it to will pass like the dinosaurs once the LOAD PRO takes off. Again many thanks for your invention and sorry if I ran on and on but I had nothing else to do all my work is done. Damm LOAD PRO:).

Daniel this tool is I been working in cars as a hobby for the past 7 years and the most difficult thing for me is electric, the engineers for sure make it sound very hard. Continued from previous post; Now... Using the LOAD PRO is like using a calculator to solve this problem 24356 X 87234 = . Sure you can solve it with a pencil AKA test light/voltmeter and eventually get the same answer. But, the LOAD PRO will most definitely get you the answer increasing your efficiency and accuracy to the point some might label you competent. I still recommend honing your understanding of OHMS LAW and the voltage drop method just in case the LOAD PRO happens to get run over. Thanks again Mr. Sullivan for an AMAZING product Ed Q.
This guy has it right! Hey don't worry about what the other companies are doing or trying to do. Just continue to innovate and push your product as an electrical issue solution. I'd suggest listing a link to videos on how to use your load pro as well, again working on the angle that customers can solve issues.

Hi Dan, thank you for your video about LOADPRO. I would admit that (indeed) LOADPRO is such a simple yet powerfull tool in finding electrical problem. I had shown the trick with my colleague, at first he misdiagnosed the trouble thinking it was the component that is malfunctioning but when I used the loadpro, he was like....what the ####? thats cool tool bro, he told me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate it a lot and btw I am a teacher also like you.
DAN! you hit the nail right on the head on the company I work for! lol 😂 they guy expects for everything to be fixed in 5 minutes! lol its so freaking unreal nothing takes five minutes in this kind of field lol I own a power prob 3 but every time I need to use it I have to hook to the battery.. I work on big heavy equipment and also your normal dump trucks and stuff This is so awesome I can just get in side with my meter and test stuff with out having to bust out the power prob for some testing .. Man I'm so glad you made this video lol gonna share it with some co workers lol .. definitely gave you a Sub keep up the good work and these dam trucks are getting to be a pain in the ass to work on I wish they would of just kept it simple !!! but nooooo need a 1000 things to make one thing work now uhhhh. 🤦🏽♂️ lol I'm a diesel mechanic but I've been the fall guy to do electrical because no else has the patience for it lol .. I work on refuse trucks for a living, and your are right on the money. The systems are getting more complicated and my Forman is constantly wanting me to put a time to the job. And sometimes it can take a hour sometimes it can take a full day depending on the manufacturers support. I’ve been using a 15 amp light in line with a multimeter and just a mess of different pines and back probes finally started using a load pro and found it to cut my dish time in half. But wish the would off one in different resistance values, I have found that it helps most of the time but sometimes it doesn’t catch the problem all the time depending on the amps of the circuit

I work on everything all brands of cars and this tool is heaven sent that is why i bought it two years ago still works great love this tool makes everything so much simpler . I am going to try this for voltage drop testing with an oscilloscope an thanks for the video .

As an industrial electical and electronic technician the theory behind your tool is sound and with the changes in tecnology it should be in every technicians tool box. There will always be pros and cons. For the cons they lack electrical theary and knowledge. Good video

In my case I get these trucks after about 3 or 4 sometimes more than that other techs have already been into the truck for 20+hrs. At that point it's like, well first I have to find out what other issues were created then find the initial problem and fix that too. But I think it's important to have an idea of what you think the problem is before you start so you know where to start at. Example: truck comes in and HVAC blower motor is inop. The manual has you check a lot of other things first but from experience we know to look at the green connector on the frame mounted PDM first because the power pin here burns often. This can save you a lot of time in diag to check these known problem areas first.
Trying to get guys in my shop to buy these leads, showed them just yesterday how quickly I found a resistance induced problem to the vehicles horn without wasted time with these leads.
Got a load pro ordered from amazon to test old honda trikes, like mentioned in video could build one myself prolly but yours is convenient, and gotta support creators, hopefully it finds my wire issue
Seens every auto mag you read has voltage drop instructions, This load pro takes the hard problem and makes it so easy,, I used it on A Harley that the tail lite was not working found the problem in 5 min. it was the harness under the rear fender some time the owner must have had A Big Mommy that caused the tire to rub the harness,, Yes I love my Load Pro..,,,thanks Dan

I've never heard of this product before but I've been using a power resistor in a jumper to perform the same diag procedure and except for intermittent faults the procedure works 100%
Just wondering how this tester would work for circuits that are monitored by the PCM and usually have a 5 volt signal etc. I am looking at an ambient air sensor code now and this got me to wondering if this tool would allow me to test the integrity of the wires running back to the PCM. It is running a P0073 code, which may be a break or high resistance in the wire somewheres.
Hi Dan. I've really enjoyed your tutorial videos and have found them to be very educational. I do have a question about using the Load Pro on pcm circuits. The instructions say not to use them on the computer inputs. How would I diagnose a 5v reference circuit with the load pro tool? Or the sensor circuits between the pcm and the sensors? It would be greatly appreciated if you could demonstrate this. I can't find anything on the internet on this.

I like the video and I think your idea of diagnosing is spot on. I had a professor teach me the same thing years ago and it made electrical easier to understand. I can easily see this working on two wire connections but what about 3, 4 wire connectors? So I guess my question would be is this only best for simple circuits? If not I would love to see a demonstration done on a more complex circuit
Hey Dan, I bought your tool and your book and I do love the concept but I want to make sure I don't cause myself problems. If I am testing from the relay on the control side, can I damage the computer if I load the circuit with the Load-Pro?
Hey I love the Load Pro I have the original red one with the book and it has saved me tons of time over the years. Just last week it helped me diagnose a heated seat problem on a Nissan, it ended up having a huge voltage drop across the switch. I got 12 volts at the heating element until I put a load on the circuit end up with a 4 volt drop somewhere in the positive side of the circuit. Ended up being the switch. I could totally see someone ordering a new pad and removing the seat and element only to find out it still doesn't work. Great tool!!! My question is if anyone knows of an alligator clip that would fit well on the test lead. Part number and manufacturer please. Thanks again Dan for such a great tool
Hello! The loadpro can be used for sensors that work with a 5v power supply? Or for the signals sent by the sensors to the PCM? Is there a possibility of PCM damage during the test? Thank you
Hey Dan love your videos and just ordered your product . Question when pressing the button and seeing a notable voltage drop I see in the video you ground the black lead and retest one side of connection and in the video there's always voltage drop on that side of the connection but IF there wasn't what do you do next do you keep the black lead on a ground and just test the other pin or put the black lead on a positive source and check the other pin??? Sorry if I am confusing.
Excellent question. When BOTH red and black probes are in the connector you're testing 100% of the circuit loop. If there is a drop (or ghost voltage) you move the BLACK lead to another clean ground and retest. Those are the only two tests. I'll let you sort it out: if I see a drop, and the drop disappears upon retest (different ground) what side of the circuit (+ or-) is the fault in? (Hint - which side do you eliminate from the test upon retest?)
just wanted to say I bought a load pro from our snapon dealer around 90 bucks Canadian iam still learning nobody else in the shop I work at doesn't really care to they still use the old head light trick it works I guess but I feel a little more professional when I walk out to the bus when the driver has a complaint thanks dan I also enjoy your videos

And we should all be pissed about how corporations and their attorneys screw the real Americans over in this country. I would just like to take a moment and thank you for making the loadpro, I bought it to find a fault on a 2001 skoda. The ac clutch had system voltage until loaded, loaded it dropped and it was the positive side the problem was on, turned out to be a corroded fuse. Thank god I had the loadpro to help me on the way :)

Guys make electrical/electronics diagnosis WAY TOO difficult. It is not "magic", it IS knowing how to read and interpret schematics, and knowing the system you are diagnosing.

Excellent video and understanding of the circuit. Really Electrical problems are simple in nature if one knows electrical and know how to troubleshoot electrical circuit. Otherwise without following rules and understanding it is a big pain. Regards,
After watching this video I realize that I do not ask "What is wrong with it?" when inquiring about a vehicle my apprentice mechanics are working on. I ask "What is is doing or not doing?" They may not know what is wrong with it but may be able to tell you what it is doing or not doing that is abnormal for it. Then I will have a better understanding of what the problem may be and lead them in the right direction if I have experienced that problem in the past. BTW, I have the LOADpro and I would recommend the book (Fundamental Electrical Troubleshooting) with it. The book will show you test and different scenarios in a simple to understand format. As a retired nuclear submarine mechanic on nonnuclear equipment, I know were you’re coming from. I invent all kinds of tools to help me get the job/task done. Would you believe after creating a tool that changed the task from 8hrs to 30mins was frowned upon by other workers because it meant they had to go somewhere else to work on i.e. “milking another job”!
Understanding how everything is integrated is paramount! When an entire naval shipyard couldn’t figure out what was the problem, I crawled all over looking for the problem while it was being operated & in less than one hour found the culprit which needed repairing. Many submarines weren’t going anywhere until I diagnosed the situation and told them what to do or fixed it myself. I could go on and on with many more situations in which people weren’t telling/giving all the facts that was needed to figure out the discrepancy.
I have been doing mechanical work all my life. I was always somewhat intimated by electrical problems. When my son began taking classes I forced myself to Learn to read diagrams and electrical theory and cannot tell you what a huge difference it has made. Simply knowing the way things work makes the job so much easier.
DC is easy. it amazes me how few people can actually do DC work. Even very good mechanics... I was the dang go to electric guy at my old shop and i had all of basic dc circuits under my belt at that point.

I'm a very hard learner and had lots of trouble in my school years. Im 29 now and I've just recently say in the last year really gained the confidence to expand my brain with knowledge instead up putting up barriers within myself and say things like, "I hate electrical, im horrible at it i'd rather pay then do it myself its confuses me too much" I've also had a pretty life changing year for myself to give myself the oppertunity to teach myself through youtube doing my own projects while watching. Tho I understand the use of the powerprobe better, I understand you and learn from what you say. I just ordered my power probe and have no experience before hand with one. I think these are completly different tools but can be related like a 2nd cousin. They both are great products from what i have heard. Thank you for your contributions to the industry sir! =)

I used a loadpro for the first time today to find an open wire on a abs sensor harness. It worked great and allowed me to find the problem fast. I look forward to watching more of these videos and using the tool in place of my meter leads.

Dan thanks, great revision of an old video. Your invention ROCKS. I encourage every new tech to get one and hone their electrical diagnostic skills, because every system on a modern vehicle has some form of electrical circuit associated with it. I'll admit I am old school and know that a good understanding of Ohms Law and how to perform voltage drops on a live circuit are all you need to find your problem. I have done it and know it works when performed correctly. Unfortunately not too many techs use the voltage drop method or know how. I own a test light/voltmeter and it has served me well. Now you tested the positive side of the fan motor with a test light/voltmeter and read source voltage because the circuit was not complete. Plug the fan motor in and test it again and you will see a different result. Ha ha you know that. Next place your test light / voltmeter from the fuse to the fan motor and that would give you the voltage drop indicating a problem. Ha ha you know that too. Now you would have spent a whole lot of time performing voltage drops at various locations on the circuit removing who knows what. Yes you said that as well. Now you did mention that using the test light/voltmeter in an UNLOADED circuit is useless. On that we are in sync. We are also in sync in that your invention simply put is a no brainier. Not much thought, Not much time wasted and No scratching your head thinking did you {mis} something. Ha ha. I am proud to say that I own a LOAD PRO. Now I did say I am old school and break out my test light/voltmeter ( creature of habit ) or Alzheimer's but windup putting it back for the LOAD PRO. Now the true difference between a test light/voltmeter and the LOAD PRO is that an UNINFORMED tech/person can use a LOAD PRO with a higher degree of accuracy and efficiency. Which by the way may have others thinking your competent. I like my test light/voltmeter but it to will pass like the dinosaurs once the LOAD PRO takes off.

Continued from previous post; Now... Using the LOAD PRO is like using a calculator to solve this problem 24356 X 87234 = . Sure you can solve it with a pencil AKA test light/voltmeter and eventually get the same answer. But, the LOAD PRO will most definitely get you the answer increasing your efficiency and accuracy to the point some might label you competent. I still recommend honing your understanding of OHMS LAW and the voltage drop method just in case the LOAD PRO happens to get run over.

DAN! you hit the nail right on the head on the company I work for! lol 😂 they guy expects for everything to be fixed in 5 minutes! lol its so freaking unreal nothing takes five minutes in this kind of field lol I own a power prob 3 but every time I need to use it I have to hook to the battery.. I work on big heavy equipment and also your normal dump trucks and stuff This is so awesome I can just get in side with my meter and test stuff with out having to bust out the power prob for some testing .. Man I'm so glad you made this video lol gonna share it with some co workers lol .. definitely gave you a Sub keep up the good work and these dam trucks are getting to be a pain in the ass to work on I wish they would of just kept it simple !!! but nooooo need a 1000 things to make one thing work now uhhhh. 🤦🏽♂️ lol I'm a diesel mechanic but I've been the fall guy to do electrical because no else has the patience for it lol .. I work on refuse trucks for a living, and your are right on the money. The systems are getting more complicated and my Forman is constantly wanting me to put a time to the job. And sometimes it can take a hour sometimes it can take a full day depending on the manufacturers support. I’ve been using a 15 amp light in line with a multimeter and just a mess of different pines and back probes finally started using a load pro and found it to cut my dish time in half. But wish the would off one in different resistance values, I have found that it helps most of the time but sometimes it doesn’t catch the problem all the time depending on the amps of the circuit

I work on everything all brands of cars and this tool is heaven sent that is why i bought it two years ago still works great love this tool makes everything so much simpler . I am going to try this for voltage drop testing with an oscilloscope an thanks for the video .

The test light is such a powerful tool because it loads the circuit with .25-.5 amps.
As an industrial electical and electronic technician the theory behind your tool is sound and with the changes in tecnology it should be in every technicians tool box. There will always be pros and cons. For the cons they lack electrical theary and knowledge. Good video

finally someone with the brains and the balls explains the truth, anyone that doesn't agree doesn't FULLY understand electrical REPAIR.
In my case I get these trucks after about 3 or 4 sometimes more than that other techs have already been into the truck for 20+hrs. At that point it's like, well first I have to find out what other issues were created then find the initial problem and fix that too. But I think it's important to have an idea of what you think the problem is before you start so you know where to start at. Example: truck comes in and HVAC blower motor is inop. The manual has you check a lot of other things first but from experience we know to look at the green connector on the frame mounted PDM first because the power pin here burns often. This can save you a lot of time in diag to check these known problem areas first.
Trying to get guys in my shop to buy these leads, showed them just yesterday how quickly I found a resistance induced problem to the vehicles horn without wasted time with these leads.
Got a load pro ordered from amazon to test old honda trikes, like mentioned in video could build one myself prolly but yours is convenient, and gotta support creators, hopefully it finds my wire issue

Seens every auto mag you read has voltage drop instructions, This load pro takes the hard problem and makes it so easy,, I used it on A Harley that the tail lite was not working found the problem in 5 min. it was the harness under the rear fender some time the owner must have had A Big Mommy that caused the tire to rub the harness,, Yes I love my Load Pro..,,,thanks Dan

I've never heard of this product before but I've been using a power resistor in a jumper to perform the same diag procedure and except for intermittent faults the procedure works 100%

Just wondering how this tester would work for circuits that are monitored by the PCM and usually have a 5 volt signal etc. I am looking at an ambient air sensor code now and this got me to wondering if this tool would allow me to test the integrity of the wires running back to the PCM. It is running a P0073 code, which may be a break or high resistance in the wire somewheres.

Hi Dan. I've really enjoyed your tutorial videos and have found them to be very educational. I do have a question about using the Load Pro on pcm circuits. The instructions say not to use them on the computer inputs. How would I diagnose a 5v reference circuit with the load pro tool? Or the sensor circuits between the pcm and the sensors? It would be greatly appreciated if you could demonstrate this. I can't find anything on the internet on this.

I like the video and I think your idea of diagnosing is spot on. I had a professor teach me the same thing years ago and it made electrical easier to understand. I can easily see this working on two wire connections but what about 3, 4 wire connectors? So I guess my question would be is this only best for simple circuits? If not I would love to see a demonstration done on a more complex circuit

It saves a bunch of time
Hey I love the Load Pro I have the original red one with the book and it has saved me tons of time over the years. Just last week it helped me diagnose a heated seat problem on a Nissan, it ended up having a huge voltage drop across the switch. I got 12 volts at the heating element until I put a load on the circuit end up with a 4 volt drop somewhere in the positive side of the circuit. Ended up being the switch. I could totally see someone ordering a new pad and removing the seat and element only to find out it still doesn't work. Great tool!!! My question is if anyone knows of an alligator clip that would fit well on the test lead. Part number and manufacturer please. Thanks again Dan for such a great tool

Hey Dan love your videos and just ordered your product . Question when pressing the button and seeing a notable voltage drop I see in the video you ground the black lead and retest one side of connection and in the video there's always voltage drop on that side of the connection but IF there wasn't what do you do next do you keep the black lead on a ground and just test the other pin or put the black lead on a positive source and check the other pin??? Sorry if I am confusing.
Excellent question. When BOTH red and black probes are in the connector you're testing 100% of the circuit loop. If there is a drop (or ghost voltage) you move the BLACK lead to another clean ground and retest. Those are the only two tests. I'll let you sort it out: if I see a drop, and the drop disappears upon retest (different ground) what side of the circuit (+ or-) is the fault in? (Hint - which side do you eliminate from the test upon retest?)
just wanted to say I bought a load pro from our snapon dealer around 90 bucks Canadian iam still learning nobody else in the shop I work at doesn't really care to they still use the old head light trick it works I guess but I feel a little more professional when I walk out to the bus when the driver has a complaint thanks dan I also enjoy your videos
Hi dan I have one question about using loadpro leads..when you do the voltage drop pressing the button on the loadpro lead ..will it make any damage to the circuit or lead when you press the button for long time? Thanks
